- Woodturning - In this video, I combine sumac with glow in the dark pigments and emerald green tinted resin to make this very unique looking bowl set. I also test out the new Korpro cutter from Hunter Tool System and it worked flawlessly! Have a great weekend and please like and share my videos, thanks!

Jim,I'm not a turner,so I love your videos. They are so interesting and informative.
Glad you like them! Thanks
I watch all your videos...it doesn't matter to me if it's a table, bowl or something else. I love the attention to detail you give all your projects and how amazingly beautiful they all turn out 👍
Thanks for watching
Exactly what Kirsten said!!

I'm just a middle aged disabled woman in the UK but I love your films and the products are beautiful! x
Thanks for watching
I love your videos and have been watching non-stop for three days. I see that you have been doing these for several years. Now I'm trying to find something current to 2023.
However, I am amazed at your talent and it keeps me company while I have to stay in bed because of permanent injuries and disabilities.
Thank you very much 🥰
The videos do have dates on them so you can see the most current. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it. Jim
I really liked the way it turned out.
Also, I very much appreciate your style. You're very much willing to show us the highs, lows, and the brutal honesty of your craft. Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks for watching
I take some of our sumac and make tool handles with it and once you take a torch to it the sumac just pops
I never would of thought to use it for that. Thanks for watching
Beautiful ❤
Isn't sumac toxic? Pretty sure the sap when burnt releases chemicals wich aren't healthy to inhale. But I'm probably remembering something wrong lol but still be safe
@@davidmedlin8562 staghorn sumac is a non-poisonous plant. Identify these plants by their drupes-staghorn sumac produces red fruit clusters while poison sumac forms white fruit clusters. Although the berries of staghorn sumac plants are non-poisonous, the milky sap on the branches can cause skin irritation and, in some cases, allergic reactions.
That being said the torching I do is out in the driveway not in my shop so at least I am also out in the open. But I guess I should maybe wear my good respirator when torching sumac in the future.
Artisans like you enhance Mother Nature's beautiful gifts to our earth. Thx
Thank you very much!
Jim, I love that you just showed that bucket who's boss!
Thanks ⚒️⚒️⚒️
🤩 beautiful! I love how the pigment naturally settled in the center of the one piece of sumac, special little extra. Another awesome video, Jim!
PS. Sorry I had to laugh!
The struggle is real 🤣🤪😂
It sure is. Thanks for watching
As much as you had hard time with these pieces, they turned out to be pieces of art work. I am impressed. 👍💕
Thank you very much!
Forgot to add also enjoyed “Jim versus the bucket” you always win.

Can’t loose with the saw, haha. Thanks for watching
I'm not a turner nor do I work with resin - I just really enjoy watching that kind of craft on youtube.
From a strictly viewer point of view, in regard to your river table video not being popular, as opposed to last week's project, I'd say it's because other resin channels do river tables too. I've seen that made by a lot of resin artists I follow, and I will admit I too took longer to get to your river table simply because it wasn't a novelty.
The charcoal table was something unique - it was the first time I saw someone work with a charcoal piece in resin, and even the look on the thumbnail was unique and so intriguing.
So my guess it's that it's not only the fact some people watch you specifically for the turnings, but also the "novelty" aspect of the projects. The river table looked a lot more like things you can see on other channels, basically.
Anyway, I love this week's project too!
The sumac really is a gorgeous wood. At first, I was a bit worried the resin would be too green because of the emerald green pigment, but since you didn't put too much of it (well, for my tastes, obviously), it looks perfect!
I think I like the big core more than the outside big bowl this time. The patterns of the timber pieces in it are really pretty.
Yes, your probably right. Never really thought about it that way. Thanks for watching!
I just found your channel, and this is the first video I watched. I am hooked! I am not a wood turner just love watching and learning about using wood in art. Love your work 🤩
Welcome aboard! Thanks for watching
Designer Epoxy. Wow Jim, these bowls are stunningly gorgeous. The color of the sumac, the grain and even the color of the resin before it is charged to glow is incredible. Beautiful work Jim. You did a super nice job. I am sure your client will be extremely happy with it, I know I would be for sure. 💕😊💕 I hope your arms are not sore after that workout trying to get it out of the bucket. Biofreeze helps if needed. 😉
I’m good, the bucket not so much, lol. Thanks for watching
Look at that wood grain. It is so beautiful. Gorgeous. Anyone would love getting this for Christmas or birthday or anniversary.
Thanks 😊
So many people make river tables that it is boring to watch someone else try-Besides I love your Bowels and design. Keep on doing what you are very good at 😃😃
Thanks for watching
The sumac wood is interesting. I imagine it has a nice feel in the hands. The little bit of green in the resin makes it look like woodland mist. Good job! :)
Thanks for watching
I love your comment about using glue! The ones who say that using glue is BS are trying to act better than they are
Yes! Thanks!
I just wanted to say I still watch every video you put out. I watch on my TV so cannot always comment
Totally get it. Me too, lol. Thanks
This is a awesome bowl. Now I know what Sumac works up as so cool
Thanks so much!
RIP Jim's mug. The bowls look great!
Lol, thanks
Designer Epoxy, Hammer Time!
Lol, thanks!
The color with that wood is just the most beautiful that I have ever seen
Thanks for watching
I am spoilt. Two videos in two days. Those bowls are lovely Jim. The supplier of the easy wood coring system in the UK told me not to waste my money as my (1hp) Coronet Herald lathe isn’t suitable. I’m fast approaching my decision to upgrade to 2hp but there are too many to choose from! Thank you for letting me stop by once again and thank you for sharing 🌞
In most cases I’d say their right. However, the Korpro cutter works so well I don’t think it’s case. Thanks for watching
Really nice colouring and more hidden gems 😊
Thanks so much!
after you said how much others enjoy watching you struggle to get the casting out of the mold, i realized how much i really enjoy watching you struggle to get the casting out of the mold... with over 90k subscribers, i'm surprised there isn't yet a drinking game... everytime jim turns it over and it doesn't come out, you gotta take a drink... two drinks if he's used the mold release spray!
I’m sure there is. Lol. Thanks
The smallest of the set are almost always my favorites. they are so cute. I want a bunch of them!
Thanks for watching
I had no idea sumac could actually be used in turning. The results were amazing. Thanks for the video. Designer epoxy
The white sumac is toxic, I’ve used the red sumac here. Thanks
Sumac is largely considered a "weed" where I live. It is a common thing to find growing along the edges of roads. It is nice to see it used to make something beautiful.
Same thing here, lol. Thanks for watching
I'm sorry to hear that people didn't like your river table conversion video. I thought it was great. I watch a lot of resin table makers and some are really advanced. But after watching so many of your videos, I've come to like you as a person as well as your woodworking skills. So if you wanted to make toast, I'd enjoy watching the experience! Thanks for sharing.
Lol, thanks for watching!

My goodness! That poor bucket gave it's final performance for these beautiful bowls! How fun to have a glow in the dark memento of a visit to Prince Edward Island. The only part of Canada I have been to is Victoria and Botanical Gardens. I wanted to stay forever!
I’ve never been to BC, but it’s on my bucket list. Thanks for watching
I like the geometric shapes of the branches. Cool that they glow.
Designer Epoxy
Thank you! Cheers!
I love the greeness of it. And it glows in the dark.😄
Thanks for watching
I’m not sure if UA-cam breaks down how many people watch part of your videos and those that watch the full video. I’m pretty sure the beginning of this video will have many more views than usual. I’ve tried 6 times to watch this video but can’t get past the first section… I’m sorry about your coffee cup… but the rest had me in stitches! A very much needed release. Thank you for that. I’m going to keep trying until I see the entire video… wish me luck.
Too funny! Thanks for watching
I LOVE that you can laugh at yourself!!
Too bad about the cup.. 🤣
Gorgeous piece!!
Thanks for watching
Those are some big sumac pieces! Beautiful patterns in them, to make beautiful bowl set. Love the glow in the dark.
Thanks for watching
The coring tool you have I think that’s neat simply because you get a lot more use out of your wood instead of so much waste. That is an absolutely beautiful bowl set! I think you are done yourself that is just fantastic.
Thank you very much!
Love the glow on this set! It almost looks like swamp light through the trees. Also, RIP your poor mug!
Thanks for watching!
OMG.......this set of bowls is just something i never see b3fore absolutely fantastic. That sumac wood is so nice and the green resin with the wood make them perfect. Just love these bowls.
Looking forward for your next video, highlight of the week when you publish your video, so this week i had 2 highlights. You make my week complte Jim, thank you.
Greetings
Hans Olav
Thanks for watching
Don't like to see you struggle Jim but I had a little smile on my face.
I wasn't laughing at you , I know you can through ANYTHING..nice vid. from Fl.have a great day everyone.
Lol, thanks for watching
HOW INGENIOUS TO PUT THE MEDIUM BOWL INSID THE LARGE ONE. That sumac is so lovely. The curve inside takes away the squared off look.
Makes a natural friction chuck, thanks for watching!
"Sumac is kinda iridescent under a blacklight" - I was just noticing that when you said it! But it even has a stunning shine under the regular shop lights! So beautiful.
Oops, I hope that didn't double-post! (It just said "error" and Tron'd it back to me.)
Thanks, lol.
I ahve never seen sumac that big. The color and grain look great.
Thanks for watching
I know about Prince Edward Island from "Anne if Green Gables" book series. I fell in love with the island and always wanted to see it. 69 years later still wishing. The bowl(s) are gorgeous.
Oh ya, forgot about her, lol. Thanks
I love it when I see your work. You do a great job on your work ❤
Thank you very much!
That was an impressive removal. Makes sense when you figured out the mushrooming. Very nice set.
I just cut the top off the bucket and it’s GTG. Thanks for watching
The wood in those bowls is beautiful!
Agreed! Thanks for watching
I really like this glow in the dark resin color. Sumac bowls look great!
Thanks 😊
Very cool! Love that glow in the dark Nuclear green!!
Thanks for watching
Looking forward to next week’s big walnut bowl
Thanks for watching
Jim all I can say is WOW!!!
Thank you very much!
Those bowls are beautiful
Thank you very much!
Designer Epoxy and I love the set (and I have to admit the bucket issues make me feel less alone).
I thought I was the only one, lol. Thanks for watching
Love the wood grain on these. Beautiful job
Thank you very much
Designer Epoxy. Beautiful work as usual.
Thanks
Hi Jim, I like the colours of the wood and shapes. The colour of resin goes well with the wood. They are beautiful set of bowls. Brilliant job 👏. Yes autumn 🍂 is beautiful time of year with all the colours of the trees. Have a good day.
Thanks for watching
Thank you for including the lathe sounds in the way that you did. That was a surprisingly enjoyble part of the video!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks
Wow! Love the sumac and emerald green.
Me too, thanks!
Kinda funny😊 we all need those little mishaps every now and then to prove we’re mere mortal man. But as usual they turned out do do beautiful! ❤Love them!
Thanks 😊
WOW that Sumac is so beautiful!!!
Thanks for watching
What a great set of bowls. I really like sumac. The tree and the bush. Great grain and wonderful colour. Another great video. I did a simular bowl with scraps of myrtle wood that were bits cut off and in the fire starter box. Epoxy gave it a whole new life. The bowl looks like a mosaic.
Designer epoxy.
Thanks for watching
Great Job! Very unique.
Thanks
Love, love, love these bowls. The combination of nuclear green and the wood grain, give these bowls a 1970's vibe.
Totally, thanks!
That glow was super cool!
Thanks!
I have to admit that one of my favorite parts is you trying to get it out of the bucket. Lol
Lol. Thanks for watching
Jim, I just love the grain of the sumac. Beautiful turnings.
Thanks
The wood itself is beautiful. With the resin it looks awesome.
Agreed. Thanks!
Wow! That’s a ton of:
Designer Epoxy
Thank you very much!
Thanks for showing me another awesome project. I really like the glow resin and the beautiful grain pattern in the sumac.
Thanks for watching
I LOVE African Sumac. It is my favorite wood. It turns well and the grain is fantastic, The tree always has tiny branches that grow all over the trunk it that a person has to constantly be removing while it is growing and that makes for a lot of tiny little burl patches. the Sumac that I used was much more red in color and as it sat in the sunlight would get redder. I used to live in Phoenix and African Sumac is very common there. I brought a pickup truck full of it with me when I moved back to Texas a few years ago and I have now run out of it. There is a lot of mesquite and pecan here near the gulf Coast but I don't care much for those woods.
This is Staghorn Red Sumac, didn't African Sumac was a thing. Sound interesting and would love to get some of it, thanks.
Gorgeous bowl set, Jim!
Perhaps the sumac pieces warped the bucket & that was why they bound after the resin set? I was waiting for you to start jumping up & down on the overturned bucket to ‘assist’ the release! But seeing the 10lb sledge & Sawz-All come out was equally entertaining!!!
This bucket design has always seemed to work well for you, since you moved to the plywood/air hole bottom. Always grateful for how you included your humbling experiences in your videos! Thanks for the fall colours…we only get yellows in Alberta. I miss the oranges & reds!
I actually managed to save the rest of the bucket, it will live on, lol. Thanks
That Designer Epoxy is some great stuff! I loved these bowls especially with the glow in the dark feature!
Thanks 😊
Beautiful, Jim. And they glow. So cool. Take care. 😊
Thanks
The bowls are really pretty. Lucky client! ❤️😊
Thanks for watching
I really like the glow in the dark effect! I think it cool!
Thanks!
The wood grain really stands out It would look nice with the grain going vertically. It would make a nice striped pattern. The glow will be strong after a few hours in the sun .
Yes it will. Thanks for watching
The little one is my favorite one.
Thanks 😊
I can't help to chuckle a little bit every time I see "Stoner" mold release. Hehe, Stoner.
Lol, thanks for watching
Designer Epoxy! Love it….Very nice bowl Jim.
Thanks for watching
Braw job Jim .....Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm and skill ......can you please show us a bit more of the lovely autumnal views outside your shop .....
Since this video was posted, most of the leaves are now brown or missing off the trees, we’ve missed the window now. Thanks for watching
Great looking bowls. That Sumac grain I have to agree really pops.
Thanks for watching
Everything you make is absolutely beautiful!
Thank you very much!
DESIGNER EPOXY. I great set. In my opinion, each bowl has unique patterns while maintaining the continuity of the set. Superb!
Thanks for watching
Hey Jim this bowl set ist fantastic.
I enjoy every week your new artwork!
I learn of all your videos and I try to make the bowls like yours 😃
Greets from germany and have a nice evening
Thanks for watching
Crikey Jim this Sumac is the best, the Mac Daddy awesome !!! ❤it's right up there on the podium as one of my 3 top favourites that u've done ✔️ that wood is spectacular & l love all the shapes it creates & I'm not a big fan of green, but u nailed that mixture of glow & emerald green epoxy, but for me, that Sumac wood is out there, as we say in Australia 🇦🇺, "it's an absolute bloody ripper mate" 😊🤠🍁
Couldn't agree more! Thank you very much!
I always enjoy watching your videos
Thanks!
Beautiful Bowls, I love that Glow 😍🔥💜
Thanks 😊
i just found you and you are awesome i dont work with wood but i love to see people work and i love that you explain you tasks
Thanks 😊
Peaceful morning hot beverage in hand, my startled dog looks up at me--I'm laughing out loud, the Homeric Struggle: Jim vs Bucket. So much for the mold "release", hahahah. Sorry about your favorite mug, Loved the sumac bowls--the colors of the resin echoed the colors in that gorgeous wood. If there were one big circle of sumac in the center I think the bowls would have looked even better. The littlest one reminded me, pleasantly, of the back of a tortoise, so cool. Really strking, beautiful. designer epoxy for my turner brother.
Thanks for watching
Wow! That's a really nice wood. Personally, don't think I'd have gone with the glow in the dark, but the customer wants what the customer wants! LOL I think I must be one of the few that always hope you have a stress free time demolding... R.I.P. The coffee mug.
I’ll play the Last Post for it! Thanks for watching
Really like the sumac. Unique looking bowl.
Thanks for watching
Beautiful!!
Thanks for watching
Nice pieces i love the sumac grain.👍👍 Jim outside your work shop looks truly amazing the colours of autumn are wonderful.😘😘
Thanks 😊
That is some amazing shine in the wood, and what bold grain! I grew up in a house full of oak furniture cos it was my ma's favourite (and melamine-coated pressboard cos it was cheap, lol) and it took a long time for me to take any interest in wood types, used to that clunky, kinda bland oak. It has its place, but wow, there are some beautiful creations from Nature out there - and some get to become beautiful creations from artisans like you. Really turned out stellar!
Oak was the preferred thing for the longest time, now I rarely work with it, lol. Thanks
Another fabulous success!! Love it!
Thanks for watching
Love them
Thank you very much
Your crafting of these is beautiful! And the struggle to release from the bucket; well-- that's just great YouTubing! Have a wonderful weekend :)
The struggle is real, lol. Thanks for watching
Beautiful.
Thanks 😊
Beautiful!
Thanks
Absolutely beautiful!
Thanks
