Hi all! Just wanted to pop in and say a couple of things. Firstly, a big THANK YOU to the KS team for filming and editing this fab video. You’ve done a great job!! 🌟💜 I’m only a guest demonstrator for them so all I did was the turning bit (the easy part!) 😆 Secondly, there have been a lot of comments mentioning the height of the lathe which I would like to address. I appreciate everyone’s concerns, but I have been turning for over 20 years on lathes this high and my turning technique has developed to enable me to be comfortable turning at this height. I NEVER stand on platforms because PERSONALLY I find them a hazard. I find they are either a tripping hazard, or something you can easily step/stumble off by accident and hurt yourself. I therefore find them far more dangerous than turning at the height I’m turning at. So there you go 😉 I appreciate your concern but I’m totally used to it and happy with it 👍🏻 Also, I know I said centimetres but I did mean millimetres. I usually work in imperial and when I go to metric I often confuse myself 🤪🤪
Lovely work - Being vertically challenged myself I wish I had seen you turning before I got my 180 - I wouldn't have gone to the trouble of making a bench - just got the legs to go with it and got used to that way of turning. Thankyou.
I wasn't going to complain about the height of the lathe, but would it not be more comfortable dropped down 6" or so? I bet you get a good look at what you're turning that close up though. My lanky ass has to bend down and inspect my work
Emma, your instruction is very clear and your turning technique clean. I enjoyed watching you work and look forward to applying your methods. Thank you for taking the time.
Fantastic! I watched this entire video and I am not a turner! Saw that bowl and had to see who made it and how they made it! Gorgeous piece! Wonderful techniques and skill! Thank you! Love the jaunty, upbeat music too!
Woohoo Emma What a wonderful technic so epic. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and tips. Keep the dream alive sister. Aussie Aussie Aussie GDAY MATE from brisbane Australia
Ah, brilliant. Great show of technique and skills. I just inherited a large old sears lathe that I need to learn how to use. So you’re my first teacher 🙌🔥🙌
THE best wood turning/woodworking videos I have ever seen. You explain everything very clearly, what you are doing and why. I absolutely love the bowl! Great job!!!
Excellent video. I just subscribed to your channel based on this video. Your skill, your ability to communicate, and the beauty of the project convinced me to subscribe. And, as a retired teacher, I want to pay you a compliment: You are a very good teacher! Thank you.
I would watch this over and over again just to listen to your accent. Absolutely lovely to the ears of an East Texan. Oh yeah, the bowl is beautiful as well and I look forward to trying some these techniques out. I believe I'll subscribe now. Thank you.
LOL! Born & raised in North-Central Texas here, & I totally agree about her accent & the beautiful result of her efforts. She's inspired me to give it a try also.
Very nice, love the carving to accentuate the piece. I am just beginning appreciate some recommendations on shop organization such as your hanging of lathe tools etc. Thank you and hope. You keep teaching us all. David
my goodness, your instruction is marvelous! this is going to help me so much! I really appreciate all the little things, like how many bevels and why, and reminders to cut the grooves before switching, and why that's important. I appreciate it immensely.
Excellent work, Emma. I get chunks of Western Red Cedar flying everywhere, coming off the lathe more than once and I almost need an angle grinder to smooth the tearouts. Yesterday was...fun...
Fabulous project. Thanks Emma. I’ve always admired your work. Great video with proper explanation at each stage. You actually made it so it was unnecessary to ask any questions. Mind you , I can see me chewing up the v grooves when carving.😂
Competently turning an unadorned walnut bowl would have been enough but, just as the iridescent, "hammered" effect elevates it to a rare and precious objet d’art - the audio’s clear, comprehensive instructions are delivered in an utterly bewitching accent, especially charming for its inconstancy - ~70% of the words sound more or less standard, so one relaxes one’s guard to focus on the message, only to be stunned repeatedly by some or other innocent word that could only have come from the magical forest where elves frolic the livelong day! … What sorcery is this?
Absolutely beautiful work, Emma! This is an amazing piece and the technical instruction you gave lent some definite new dimension to this kind of video for me. Thank you!
I have noticed the bowl being untrue. I am happy because it means I am eventually understanding and noticing things that I was not able to notice until some months ago. It means I am learning. Thanks for this video, it is very well explained.
Very nice, I like the colors and how well they work with the walnut. I was holding my breath when you started carving because I was worried the chisel would slip and go beyond the v groove. You’re very talented
Hi Emma. Thanks for the incredible video. I really enjoy the detail information that you share during the process of creating this very beautiful bowl. You make me want to go out to my shop and get into some more turning too. Take care.
This is the best, most interesting and informative wood turning video i have seen. Also the product is beautiful, so much more creative and interesting than most. Thank you
Well I started turning back in 1974, yes I was young. I got hooked into turning back then and whenever I see a block of material I chuck it up. Nice turn there.
Awesome piece of woodart. It was great to watch and learn some new techniques and products. Keep up the awesome work Emma. Keep the great videos coming KS. 👽
Nice! and it's wonderful to see you using conventional tools rather than carbide tools. Too many new woodturning channels only show carbide tools and LOTS of tear out that then needs to be sanded away.
Thank you for your video. Am new to turning. I followed along with you every step of the way and made a bowl like the one in your video. Your help and instruction are first class all the way. Thank you so much. Adam PS I can’t wait to follow along with you again!
Your explanation Is very detailed, for someone new with the project they should have no problem fowling your instructions, Keep up the nice work. This completement came from a 38 years of woodworking experience,
Watched your video (popped up, UA-cam recommended) . I enjoy woodworking although I don’t do any wood turning myself except when I was at secondary school a long time ago. I enjoyed watching your work especially as you explained the techniques and everything you were doing. The bowl was very nice, thank you for sharing your expertise.
Thanks so much Emma I saw you at Harrogate and you gave me some to try out when i finished my new workshop and now im done i really want to try this method it will be a first and when i do ill let you see thnks for this video on how to ........
Very nice work. I want some of those flakes! You have my mind working on how to use the flakes in different designs. THANK YOU for sharing. Nice job with your explain everything you are doing, why and different options
I so enjoyed watching you make this bowl. You have a knack of making it look so easy and your instructions are very clear. Good camera work means that we get a clear view of what you are doing and also seeing the bevels on your tools. The talk about carving tools and techniques was also very helpful. I loved the finished product ……green shimmer on walnut ….perfect!!!!!!
Every person who creates art with their hands deserves to be blessed.
It was one of the best trainings I have seen

I went to your website but couldn’t find any bowls. Was hoping I would find this one there.
Your results speak for themselves, Emma. You've obviously found what works for you and it shows. Stand (pun intended 😉) your ground, young lady!
Lovely work - Being vertically challenged myself I wish I had seen you turning before I got my 180 - I wouldn't have gone to the trouble of making a bench - just got the legs to go with it and got used to that way of turning. Thankyou.

Beautiful turned bowl with clearly explained procedure. Two Thumbs WAY UP!

This is beautiful, and also so much better than the endless number of people turning yet another three pound hunk of resin.

Sounds a bit scary Stan! 😳
@@TheTinyTurner I'm an advocate for stout undergarments even on a small lathe. Today I was battling a Yew log. I will tame the beast! :)
Fabulous project. Thanks Emma. I’ve always admired your work. Great video with proper explanation at each stage. You actually made it so it was unnecessary to ask any questions. Mind you , I can see me chewing up the v grooves when carving.😂
