It’s horrible. I am 10 years clean from alcohol and a couple of other outside issues. I just got over withdrawal from sugar and refined carbs, and believe me, I had withdrawals. Maybe because of my past opioid use, but it was close to that withdrawal. Whole body pain, insomnia, you name it. Doing much better now and I feel so much better! My brain functions are back after damn near dementia, and I have more stamina, and can feel joy for a change.😂 Plus I’m skinny again. I highly recommend quitting.
Thank you for your posting! I have insomnia, severe short term memory loss that’s scaring me and whole body pain that I couldn’t relate to any particular activity. My doctor ordered bloodwork that didn’t reveal a cause. But sugar addiction screams loud and clear. I am a sugar addict but I didn’t realize what I was experiencing was from sugar. Certainly makes sense now. This very day, April 14, 2024 is the first day of my going off sugar and with the Lord’s grace being successful!
I would like to see more (ANY) studies done to test how reducing sugar can help fight cancer. Without going into detail... I was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, was at stage 4. The DNA testing on the tumor estimated a 5 year life expectancy. I followed the recommended life extension treatments. I ALSO eliminated ALL sugar sources from my diet. NOW, I am testing as cancer free in under one year! AND I lost over 80 pounds and feel great. No longer on blood pressure pills. In my opinion, if your Doctor / Nutritionist do not recommend on every visit that you switch to a LOW sugar or Sugar Free Diet, you need to take action for yourself and even look for another health care practitioner.
You can't eliminate your blood sugar, you need it to survive. This is glucose in your blood. I have read that cancer cells need more sugar than normal cells. Web MD says cancer cells need 200 times as much glucose. Web MD also says that being fat can cause cancer and high insulin can cause cancer. Then it says eating a lot of sugar does cause spikes in insulin, so during the spikes the cancer could initiate. So best to lose weight and keep your blood sugar down.
It was Dr Lustig who convinced me to quit sugar. It just took a couple of years of watching his video. Then I knocked out coffee and alcohol. Thanks Dr. Rob.
I am starting utube sugar anonymous😂 Hi my name is Garry and I am a sugar addict 66 years now. It started in 1958 in first grade when my Catholic Grammar School first grade opened the candy locker in the back of the classroom every day at lunchtime with the most awesome display of candy one could have ever imagined!
@@mark-ish Lustig is a charlatan and full of crap. The insulin carbohydrate model for obesity is completely devoid of any truth at all. It has been disproved beyond any doubt a zillion times. Lustig still promotes this nonsense as well as making many other baseless unscientific claims about weight gain and sugar and fructose.
Loss of sleep and energy😴 My boyfriend and I are drastically changing our way of life in regards to food, diet etc. I went shopping yesterday and had to read labels. Sugar is everywhere. I trouble finding mustard without sugar. My boyfriend said what I am going to eat for breakfast when I can't have flour, marmalade or nuetella. I told him exactly that is the problem, he has to to change his diet permanently and how he thinks. He just got out of hospital after the stint in his vein collapsed. He had a heart attack 10 years ago. I am glad he finally is understanding. Videos like this help. Thank You❤
When i quit sugar and carbs i had 5 days of flu like symptoms. After a few months i had one piece of birthday cake and next day had the worst hangover. If you have to eat every 2 hours, you are carb addicted!
Super helpful video! Thank you Doug and Dr. Robert for your valuable information and your nice presentation on Warning Signs You’re Eating Too Much Sugar! Keep up the good work! Warm greetings from Melbourne of Australia!
Wonderful guest and wonderful interviewer! They both are very good at what they do. Dr Lustig is sooooo smart and educated about body chemistry. And the interviewer asked great questions for the person addicted or simply wanting to eat better. Well worth the time.
Wonderful interview, many thanks! 👏 I've shared it with relevant ppl in my life. Immense gratitude for Dr Robert, and I can't wait to immerse myself in his book, 'Metabolical', which I've recently bought. Greetings from London, U.K. 🌷
I went keto then did meditation bought nothing in a packet except for deliberately allowing myself chocolate at weekends. Cold turkey is easier if you learn how to do total fasting. I found out that bread was deal breaker. I could not just have one slice. Chocolate was different somehow. So the trigger for me is bread and must be totally avoided in my case. I fast at least eighteen hours most days and then total fast for 36 hours once o'er week. Eating fat like butter or lard and not being afraid of it has helped me escape the sugar trap.
Omg. Browned butter bites are sooo good. I highly recommend making them and keeping them either in your fridge or freezer and if you feel a craving for candy or cookies eat one of them. I make them in a little candy mold (mine happens to be shaped like hearts) and it works out to a little over 1/2 Tbs each. I can eat 1 and it takes care of that craving (for me anyway) . If you have a sweet tooth I recommend this trick highly
When I quit eating sugar, I have severe insomnia, very irritable, tired, can’t function at work until I eat sugar again. I’ve tried to quit but can’t due to how bad it affects me at work. I’m an addict!! Sugar absolutely has withdrawal. I was addicted to opiates. It has very similar withdrawal symptoms. Insomnia being one that is horrible. Irritability, nausea, sweating. It absolutely produces withdrawals
I used to regularly get myself 2 candy bars whenever I went to the store, and really enjoy them. (plus other stuff) The way I backed off of them was by sensing what I was able to put off or say no to at the moment, realizing I didn't want to sneak or shame myself or hide, but I just kind of was my friend and said no to what I could, without being punitive. I changed my habits over time. So I don't know if that story is any good for you, I'm just thinkin' about what you're sayin'.
My sister had to let go slowly. Now, she's fine without sugar. Slowly switching from things like chocolate to fruit might help as a first step. Insomnia is awful! I hope you can get over the addiction! :-)
Totally get it. Fought with it for decades but always had to stop cold turkey and after 2 weeks - no cravings. But if I ever had one little thing, the cravings were back. I think it’s like some alcoholics- only total abstinence works and it’s worth the decrease of fatigue and up and down emotions. Don’t give up. You can get there
The only thing that’s even given me a glimmer of breaking from sugar addiction is not eating and sugar or carbohydrates at all and only eating fat and protein.
I have cut out most of my sugar. I say most because there sugar comes in so many products , like fresh fruits. However, I do my best. I have lost weight and my glucose levels have came down to normal. Unfortunately, I am thinking about all the bakeries will go out of business .. what about birthday cakes and children’s parties? How about a book for alternatives recipes.
I was told I was on the verge of diabetes, so for the past month I did what I could to lower my blood sugar by testing every morning. I've been right around 100. well, yesterday at 4 pm I ate an oreo and this morning I read 148. So, I'm glad I have improved my overall habits, and the sweets I was eating were going to make me sick in the near future. The cookie was not so super delicious to me, either. I will watch this all the way through. Plus I had stress over political watching and a thing I said about my sister.
What do you expect the food industry to do? Make food nobody will eat! You are being silly. Stop stuffing so much food in your mouth and move your butt.
I have stopped sugar 6 months ago, 26 kilos down and keep going with keto and intermittent fasting. 2 cheat days and then 3 days water fasting after. The key for me was to drink green tea every time I have sugar cravings.
Dr Lustig makes a point that fructose is the addictive substance, in contrast to glucose. I can think of lots of counter examples. I loved to eat macaroni. As I understand, that's not fructose. It breaks down to glucose. Also I ate potatoes. I don't eat them now, because I am diabetic now. I used to eat bread and butter.
Same here!!! I love bread 🥖 and pastry 🥐. Flour is in 95% of bakery ( I don’t know the real percentage, but I mean a lot) and the rest are flourless or alternative flours.🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 This is mostly glucose…
grains wheat have proteins which are highly addictive, I think it's gliadin, gluteomorphin, look up Dr Davis Wheat Belly. most people have the hardest with bread, the sweet is much easier to quit.
I’m hoping you can give me some advice because I’m running out of hope on this issue. 4 months ago I got a kidney stone, I’m 54 and never had one. They did surgery and removed the stone. I had been on a normal American diet, sugar and fast food. I went on a low carb and high fat diet. Carnivore with low carbs. Went I had my latest blood work after 4 months, my glucose went up from 92 to 108. Fasting insulin was 10. Fatty liver test went from 26 to 32. Uric acid was 7.8. How can my metabolic health get worse when I cut out 90% of the junk I was eating? I’m at a loss and I’m worried about my uric acid and sugar. I was eating everything and tons of sugar and cookies and my blood work was better. Hope you can help me
HiJim: those numbers are puzzling. I have a few thoughts : did you gain any weight because the body can make its own sugar ( gluconeogenesis) from protein and fats especially if the calories count is too high. Are you eating large amounts of fruit? The body cannon ert excess fructose to glucose. What are you drinking? Both soda and fruit juice are literally liquid sugar and can mess with your metabolism. Sports drinks are often high in sugar. One of Dr. Lustigs videos mentioned an athlete whose performance was deteriorating, he was as prediabetic and had to quit his sports drink. Also you said you quit 90 % of the junk food you were eating . This implies you are still eating some junk food.i suggest testing suspicious items with a glucometer to see which foods are spikingyour sugar. You could also test blood sugar one hour after a meal.
Great interview. A lot of new content covered I haven't heard of in previous vids. Especially that of fruit, protein, and the addiction emphasis on sugar dependency.
If you really work at it you can loose most of your cravings for sugar. I was a horrible sugar eater. I feel so much better giving it up. Still have to work on giving up corn, flour, and rice.
One day, I felt a strong pain in my stomach and decided to cut the crap and quit sugar. It’s been almost 3 weeks now. I’ve been feeling depressed, lonely, and kind of sad all the time. I feel like nothing makes me happy. I’ve isolated myself a bit. Today, I felt very dizzy and got scared because I thought it was related to my stomach issues, but since I’m eating clean, I’m sure it’s just sugar withdrawal. This is very hard, but I will not eat that stuff again. Thank you for this.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I definitely felt the dopamine hit too, i tried going a few days without it, and the withdrawal was so bad that i did ask myself what is the point of it all, not having 'any pleasures in life' I caved now, but it's good to know this is real, and not just me being very weak
@ I think the point is recognizing that this is not pleasure and that you are not actually enjoying it. You just get a hit, but the sugar crash is not pleasurable. And you repeat it in circles. It’s been a month of eating a clean diet for me, and it took that long to feel better. The symptoms have stopped now. It is said that symptoms leave after a few days, but that wasn’t the case for me as I was a heavy sugar junkie.
Convincing my mom to stay away from ultra-processed foods and reduce her carb and sugar intake feels hopeless. She's 64 with type 2 diabetes; her mother passed away from dementia. Her, my dad AND their friends mock me for trying. Fine, I'll step back, but… then what?
44:05 - I've found unsweetened sodas that have a little natural flavouring, and like dry wine with a fruity flavour, they taste a little sweet to me. It's wonderful to have bubbles again!!!
I’m seriously addicted to sugar and I’m at a loss what to do. I’ve tried quitting cold turkey, cutting out a little bit at a time, going low-carb, etc., and I am just struggling with it. 😞 I’ve given up alcohol, about a month now, but before that I could go weeks at a time, not a heavy drinker, but more of a social with dinner drinker. I’ve seen improvements in my stomach/GI health, but the sugar is killing me.
He is telling you what you want to hear. Unfortunately that is far removed from the truth. Are you so dumb to think sugar is more responsible than other foods for so many overweight people? You don't believe cheeseburgers without the bun,, pepperoni cauliflower crust pizza, chicken wings, bacon and eggs, keto ice scream, T-bone steaks, and fried chicken won't make you fat? C'mon use your brain. Sugar consumption has declined significantly in the USA in the last twenty years. Obesity has kept going up at the same rate.
Dr Lustig is very passionate about human anatomy and public health. What *is* surprising is his admission about caffeine - as it's a cerebral vasoconstrictor and considering how important white brain matter is, you would think he might eschew it in that regard. I imagine most things in moderation are equally helpful.
It blows my freaking mind how many people in 2024 have no clue that sugar is harmful I had some people laugh and mock if I brought this up cause they thought it was BS. It's nuts And then there is people who know its harmful but either can't stop eating it or are in denial about how much they eat it
Yes, my mom literally drowns in sugar, every day i see on kitchen table big chocolate, cookies, then she drinks coffee with added sugar etc. But the daily sugar intake that doctor mentioned is not accurate, its based on how much can liver metabolize. Because its not same if person eats 25 grams of sugar in single meal, or divided in 3 meals with several hours apart, then absorption is more balanced, even if person eats 40 grams is in my opinion better then its divided in 4 meals than 25 grams in single meal
@@dianew.3120 - I any periods of my life when I drunk real juice daily- I always felt better, my skin was better and my gut was better. So I am not on the "juice is just sugar" team. Sure, it's not fruit. But I don't believe that it's sugar and nothing else
Its not only sugar, its where sugar is formed. Red beet salad has sugar and its sweet, but after you eat like 100-150 grams you dont get cravings or eat 500 grams. While Coca Cola has also sugar, but most of people wont be satisfied by drinking only 1 glass, there are many cases where people drink 2 litres of it daily.
You dont have to swiched smoothies. My ingredients for smoothies are avocado, natural greek yogurt, peanut butter, nuts. Healthy and very little sugar.
Ok I keep watching this type of video several times to get it into my consciousness more snd more along with Drs: Attia, Bickman, Perlmutter, and Jamandas and others. What great info to deprogram me from a 72 year life as. junkovore😂 Now if your pescatarian and you eat fish and vegetables whats for breakfast? Seriously!
I buy glucose from the wine making store and make sweet drinks. It is about half as sweet as Fructose so you just add twice the amount. I think the total calories is about the same. It is also called Dextrose and also called Corn Sugar. Then I add fizz with a soda stream. This way you avoid the fructose molecule , it is hard on your liver. When I was younger I could make a whole bowl of icing from icing sugar, butter, milk ,vanilla and eat the whole bowl. No problem and I was not fat. Then a bakery opened up across the street from our house when I was about 12 years old. Eddies Austrian Bakery. The baked good they made were just amazing. Long john, coated in chocolate icing with a sugary filling. I could eat lots of those and they had strudel and all kinds of squares. lemon chocolate, I have never found such an amazing bakery anywhere since. They went out of business about 10 years later. It was Eddy's son , Eddy junior that didn't know how to run a business. I also got a job at the bakery and we got all the donuts and long johns and whatever we could eat for coffee time. Then I learned to make sliced bread with the machine and bag it and dipped the long johns in hot chocolate to coat them and they were going to teach me more but they went out of business. Then I got a job at McDonalds, which was the first one to open in the city. They actually made the French fries from potatoes. They had a big drum to peel the potatoes and then a slicing machine. I was never fat and my blood sugar is still low. I used to always be cold as a kid so maybe I had low blood sugar. I used to sit on the hot air register to warm up. I could eat nothing but sweets and donuts and cake all day long with no meat or vegetables at all. If I didn't know it was all junk food and bad for you, I would just eat that all the time now.
About 3 weeks ago I stopped eating sugar, or most of it. I have used a spritz of maple syrup once or twice. I've only eaten whole food, real food, no meat. I stopped because I realized I was getting the jitters from sugar related hunger pangs and glucose spikes. It's working! I'm 75, and I've abused my body for a long time. It's never too late to learn or to change. in fact, change is guaranteed. With regard to withdrawal, I ate fruit instead, along with my rice, beans, greens and grains. I've tempered the fruit some now.
Well, it's not just about sugar. Sugar and simple carbs are an obvious beginning. Meat as a food source is unsustainable for the world's population. I do currently eat eggs, fish and some dairy.
Healthy eating starts with healthy shopping. It helps to know that the grocery industry only gives you the illusion of choice. In reality they want to control everything you eat. I only buy single ingredient foods and I do all my food preparation myself. Well, OK, I allow myself some splurges but, for the most part, I never buy processed foods or even foods with more than one ingredient. The quickest easiest way to improve your shopping health is to avoid anything in a brightly coloured package.
Going cold turkey is a recipe for failure/depression considering the nag of withdraw. I accidently started juicing a year prior to limiting sugar (then wheat, corn, rice and soybean oil). Now I blend for the fiber and nutrients. Nutritional saturation is needed to build willpower to resist the call of the nag, pretending to be hunger. Sugar robs a homie of nutrition. After decades of sweet and sour pork over rice, eating bok choy, onion and garlic stir fry seems remote. It was a lot easier to limit sugar AND wheat after building up nutrition. Especially on Friday nights when reasoning tries to convince you, you deserve a pizza for being so good.
Surger is converted to glucose in the body, fruits, carbs are also ultimately converted to glucose, sugar is a concentrated form of glucose, moderation based on personal activity, is the key , the difficulty is requiring lots of energy while young due to higher activity, this is learned and habitual, later in life you tend to slow down like the guy started with shovel is now managing others with shovels , eats just as before but not spending the same amount of energy, result a slow insidious gain with justification, denial, I know for I am living it, even zero sugar low carb doesn't compare to the demands the brain imposes with signals to subvert your understanding
My questipn has never been how people can get off opiods or alcohol or tobacco. My question has always been how can anyone be stupid and BRAVE enough to start any of that. It's just SO stupid but even if u are stupid enoigh it's SO scary! Am i just genetically different to be afraid of all that? You can see how those things destroy people. Robert has taught me that there is one more thing to avoid. I'm 64 in the best shape of my life. Havent seen a doctor since i was 7. Never had a prescription, and not to brag but i get up every day without a single ache or pain. I look like a muscley beast thanks to bicycling and 10 min a day with my dumbells but i now realize that i do have to get the sugar under control bc my brain sure doesnt work like it did, at least if i want to keep perfect health going to 74,84,94, who knows?
Simple way is to not eat any sugar. Once you quit, after a while you get used to it and you won't miss the sugar. Sugar is terrible for you, so unhealthy for the body. Sugar from fruits isn't bad, plus it's not added sugar.
@@nigellee9824that's why we clean our teeth. there's plenty of health benefits from eating essential vitamins over processed supplements. You lot are odd balls.

Baby pictures with my dad he was overweight not obese but overweight. He died 2 months shy of my 20 birthday……I was 19. Not yet 20. Now I am almost 39 and I have almost lost my mother a few times in the last few years …..diabetes diagnosis changed her diet huge her blood sugar is down to almost normal on Berberine. And had a major heart scare in the last year and a half almost killing me , under tremendous stress from it has led to adrenal fatigue, my blood pressure drops very low at night. I actually fainted a month ago. Now I keep a blood pressure cuff in my bed at night…..the battery operated ones and sea salt 🧂 available at bedside . I also bought Sea salt capsules I have extreme dizziness at night. Adrenals are bad. I would be dead if my father lived and taken care of 2 sick parents. All my life taken care of parents being unwell. From a child. I saw my parents in and out of hospital. Traumatic to say the least. I felt often from a child would I be orphaned.
I was robbed of parents due to sugar addiction. Both unhealthy all their lives . Plus I think it explains why ? I have had chronic Health problems, though I eat healthy mostly between keto, carnivore, Mediterranean, Paleo. My health depends on it. My mother wasn’t well to have kids . Hormone problems which I got too. Adrenals weak all my life leading to chronic health problems like allergies etc……allergies to food etc…..all stem from weak adrenals.
I have been eating a lot of whole real fruit. I had angina a little more than a year ago, but it has not come back, since I got rid of my fatty liver, don't eat sugar and eat low carbs. However, I replaced a lot of of carbs and sugar with fruit. My wife found something that said to only have 3 servings of fruit per day if you have atherosclerosis. So, what is the truth. Can I have all the whole fruit I want, or do I have to limit it to three?
@@Steve-is4zh The liver can handle 6-9 tsp of sugar per day. More than that and you will start to acquire fat in the liver. I told my wife I could have 9 tsp a day, but she said "no you can't, you have a triglycerided problem". I am not following Lustig as much as I was. He seems to be pushing the "sugar is the basis of all evil" theory. I do not believe it is. There can be two things at the same time. Saturated fat is still bad, according to Dr. Muhammad Alo, a dual certified cardiologist. Check him out on UA-cam. Thirdly, do not believe people like Sten Ekberg. If you do some of the things he does, you are asking for it. He could be a lean mass hyper responder, in which case, he is virtually bulletproof.
Thanks for the information. I definitely agree with the idea that you need to be consuming mostly unprocessed/minimally processed foods while getting a sufficient amount of fiber. As far as fruit smoothies, I think you’re still getting a good amount of fiber, but not as much as if you eat the fruit whole.
The fiber doesn’t go away in then blender. No different than your molars grinding it up. Blender just pre-starts the digestive process. Blender isn’t juicing. Everything you put in is still there. If you’re still worried about the fiber, throw a few hemp/ chia/flax seeds in.
Every single time I watch videos on this topic I see a verry common question: " are there studies to support this "? Do you actually think this man can talk like this for an hour or 2 at a time and just make this up??? LOL. This guy knows EXACTLY what he's talking about due to "studies" for years. If he posted the medical studies he's been observing for years do you think people would actually read them and retain?? We live in a society where people form opinions based on a couple sentences they read on Facebook and create enemies with someone because they were too lazy to research what the truth may have been. What makes anyone think someone would read medical research where they can't pronounce the words anyway?? Just LISTEN to what he recommends and see how healthy you get. It's hard to swap to this lifestyle like this but you CAN if you try hard enough. That will be the "study" people are looking for 😊 I personally think when people ask this question, some not all, are basically saying this man is talking out of his a** and they want to read the medical data that proves this when they damn sure will not. If you are one of those people, ask the food industry to provide medical data showing that cheerios reduces cholesterol and that Nutella is a fine way to start your kids nutritional day off with a big 30 oz cup of sunny delight and then eat healthy fruit snacks out of a bag 3 times a day. But hey...it says it on the package so it's 100% been clinically studied and the proof is in the pudding because my kid is 7 years old and weighs 110 lbs and just got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
What’s so difficult about not having smoothies? The interviewer keeps talking about “but smoothies are better than soda, right?”. Just drink water, tea, etc.
Required for what? Carbohydrate, including sugar, is the only macronutrient not needed from an external source, as the body will create the glucose it needs through a process called gluconeogenesis. There are many people who have started eating a carnivore diet in which they eat zero carbohydrate, and some have been doing it for 40-50+ years without any problem. In fact, many say that eating no carbs is healthy and can reverse many issues, including autoimmune, skin, gastrointestinal and mental health issues.
@@Shiny54 no hay estudios, porque quien los podía pagar no lo hace, porque afecta el negocio de los alimentos y el negocio de las farmacéuticas. Cuyos pro pietarios son los mismos.
Yes...people that 100% commit to a no sugar, low carb lifestyle that Dr. Lustig and many doctor's recommend and do what they say and not lie about it (like accidentally forgetting to mention the 2 large pizza's, 24 dunkin' donuts, and gallon of cookie dough ice cream) they slipped in 3 days week. There's really no study to prove anything to anyone. Just observe someone that does the aforementioned properly and see the results and there's your study. People, even in their 80's, that do this reduce immensely or even get off all medications and drop weight to a normal level with this lifestyle.
Has Dr Lustig been given a Nobel Prize yet for services to human health. He deserves it.

I told him exactly that is the problem, he has to to change his diet permanently and how he thinks. He just got out of hospital after the stint in his vein collapsed. He had a heart attack 10 years ago. I am glad he finally is understanding. Videos like this help. Thank You❤
This man made me quit sugar (for 5,5 months already).
He is such a straight shooter and great teacher.
Thank you dr Lustig
When i quit sugar and carbs i had 5 days of flu like symptoms. After a few months i had one piece of birthday cake and next day had the worst hangover.
If you have to eat every 2 hours, you are carb addicted!
Super helpful video! Thank you Doug and Dr. Robert for your valuable information and your nice presentation on Warning Signs You’re Eating Too Much Sugar! Keep up the good work! Warm greetings from Melbourne of Australia!
With help from Dr. Lustigs' teachings I am working on my brain to be able to go sugar-free.
Wonderful guest and wonderful interviewer! They both are very good at what they do. Dr Lustig is sooooo smart and educated about body chemistry. And the interviewer asked great questions for the person addicted or simply wanting to eat better. Well worth the time.
very educational. definitely will make changes to me and kids nutrition after this
Given time, any opportunity to listen to Dr Lustig is great. Always to learn something new.
Wonderful interview, many thanks! 👏
I've shared it with relevant ppl in my life.
Sugar is bad. Do walking..
So what is your total cholesterol numbers
Impressive lifestyle change

lol. Ex junkie with somatic histrionics. Similar to opiates!! I 😂😂😂😂😂😂

I agree
I admit that I have a sugar addiction. It is such a PITA! I fight with this all the time.
You can get there
Drink bitter matcha green tea to remove the craving
The only thing that’s even given me a glimmer of breaking from sugar addiction is not eating and sugar or carbohydrates at all and only eating fat and protein.
Also, do not break fast until 12 noon
I am 2 weeks out on my sugar detox no alcohol all so
I have cut out most of my sugar.
Brilliant interview. Very encouraging. I have Metabolica book and it is excellent for my detox from sugar. learned lots. ! Thx Dr Lustig.
Thank you for admitting you're addicted to coffee, Dr. Lustig 🤣👌💯

When I wake up, must have black tea. Trying to switch to bitter tea to remove the craving
Carnivore diet. It changed my life.
Carnivore is the way to go.
Also intermittent fasting!!!
Thanks again Dr. Lustig and Doug for trying to help others.
Lustig is a giant. You are honest and direct. The industry of food making only money...
I found bitter green tea, removed my sugar craving.
33:12 "...you can't freeze fiber."
Blueberries have fiber (2.4gm per 100gm - same as oranges), and they can be frozen no problem.
Freezing probably does destroy some fiber, but certainly not all in all fruits.
you can freeze it, the point was, when thawed, the fibrous element has been destroyed and turned to mush
Excellent video!!
Thank you both!

Flour is in 95% of bakery ( I don’t know the real percentage, but I mean a lot) and the rest are flourless or alternative flours.🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
This is mostly glucose…
Sorry you are diabetic…. It’s tough!
Take care ❤❤❤
grains wheat have proteins which are highly addictive, I think it's gliadin, gluteomorphin, look up Dr Davis Wheat Belly. most people have the hardest with bread, the sweet is much easier to quit.
Hope you can help me
Maybe you’re eating to much protein.
Go to a plant based diet, the fat is as bad as pure sugar
Great interview. A lot of new content covered I haven't heard of in previous vids. Especially that of fruit, protein, and the addiction emphasis on sugar dependency.
Can I get a time stamp on how to break sugar addiction please?

I got off sugar, and exercise with heavy (for me at least) weights, and it's been a world of difference.
Wow! Thank you for clearest why about glucose and fructose. Like your teaching style with musical voice range.
My dental hygienists told me a man she had as a patient, he quite coffee and said it was harder to quit coffee then cigarettes.
I go through serious withdrawals when i try to stop eating anything sweet - it's all i think about. It's my only addiction.
If you really work at it you can loose most of your cravings for sugar. I was a horrible sugar eater. I feel so much better giving it up. Still have to work on giving up corn, flour, and rice.
Carnivore diet helped me kick my sugar addiction.
Bitter match green tea helped me lose craving
Matcha green tea , bitter
One day, I felt a strong pain in my stomach and decided to cut the crap and quit sugar. It’s been almost 3 weeks now. I’ve been feeling depressed, lonely, and kind of sad all the time. I feel like nothing makes me happy. I’ve isolated myself a bit. Today, I felt very dizzy and got scared because I thought it was related to my stomach issues, but since I’m eating clean, I’m sure it’s just sugar withdrawal. This is very hard, but I will not eat that stuff again.
Thank you for this.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
I definitely felt the dopamine hit too, i tried going a few days without it, and the withdrawal was so bad that i did ask myself what is the point of it all, not having 'any pleasures in life'
I caved now, but it's good to know this is real, and not just me being very weak
Brilliant absolutely brilliant!
So what was the answer to the question about what physical symptoms? I’m waiting for this dr tell me.

What about frozen fruit/veggies. They are the same fiber and health wise?
Yes
In love with Dr. Robert Lustig ❤️
@@mark-ishHe said it with a modicum of irony.

It blows my freaking mind how many people in 2024 have no clue that sugar is harmful
I had some people laugh and mock if I brought this up cause they thought it was BS. It's nuts
And then there is people who know its harmful but either can't stop eating it or are in denial about how much they eat it
Yes, my mom literally drowns in sugar, every day i see on kitchen table big chocolate, cookies, then she drinks coffee with added sugar etc.

Why don't you eat meat?
It is industrialized, wastes resources, and regenerates violence.@@stepheneverhardt4731
Why stop eating meat? The only food that contains no sugar!
….and has the protein that you need!
I suppose less likely to buy at store if we can buy fresh at online web store
I think having ADHD has made me more addicted to sugar than your average neurotypical person. It is soooo hard to quit.
I wonder which comes first. Did overeating sugar cause the ADHD
Very good podcast

But how about fructose from fruits??
Rolling berries in sugar before eating is almost eating a tsp of sugar. Been there done that. Lol
I don't understand the argument that making smoothies destroys the insoluble fiber when we'd otherwise be chewing it anyway...
Simple way is to not eat any sugar. Once you quit, after a while you get used to it and you won't miss the sugar. Sugar is terrible for you, so unhealthy for the body. Sugar from fruits isn't bad, plus it's not added sugar.

My father was a sugar addicted led to diabetes and he had bleeding toes , even pictures of me as a new born baby in the mid 80’s , I never had healthy parents. My younger brother and I have struggled with weight on off all our lives . I am trying to be as carnivore as I possibly can. Thyroid problems, adrenal fatigue , perimenopause, think close to menopause. My mother and father diabetic, father ended up with cancer died 2005, brain cancer, now my mom has heart problems after diabetes diagnosis, 2 years ago April almost died from high blood sugar, now WAY UNDER CONTROL were it should be, now has heart issues *** Yes heart problems in her family side *** my younger brother had a heart murmur as a child.
Very informative

I have been eating a lot of whole real fruit. I had angina a little more than a year ago, but it has not come back, since I got rid of my fatty liver, don't eat sugar and eat low carbs. However, I replaced a lot of of carbs and sugar with fruit. My wife found something that said to only have 3 servings of fruit per day if you have atherosclerosis. So, what is the truth. Can I have all the whole fruit I want, or do I have to limit it to three?
I am not an expert but it depends on how much the liver can handle. Whole fruit with fiber reduces the glucose and fructose load.
Compete nonsense. There are no fibre in smoothies. And besides that fibre is indigestible that's why you have big poops

That will be the "study" people are looking for 😊
I personally think when people ask this question, some not all, are basically saying this man is talking out of his a** and they want to read the medical data that proves this when they damn sure will not.
Is there any minimum quantity of sugar required in grams?? like honey?
Required for what? Carbohydrate, including sugar, is the only macronutrient not needed from an external source, as the body will create the glucose it needs through a process called gluconeogenesis. There are many people who have started eating a carnivore diet in which they eat zero carbohydrate, and some have been doing it for 40-50+ years without any problem. In fact, many say that eating no carbs is healthy and can reverse many issues, including autoimmune, skin, gastrointestinal and mental health issues.
Any studies to support this?
