Sugar addict in recovery here 👋. It’s been over 2 yrs and I still struggle at times. I’ve resigned myself to accept that this might be a life long thing that I have to manage. The health benefits that I have experienced by cutting out most sugar far outweigh the occasional struggle.
My husband and I still struggle sometimes too. It's been about three years since we cut out most sugar from our diet. I've found social gatherings are the worst. Most people bring deserts or sugar filled processed foods. It's difficult to say no when you have tons of sugar sitting there. I think we need a Sugarholics Anonymous group to help people trying to keep sugar consumption low. Lol

Yes, isn't it amazing that you feed kids breakfast laced with sugar, send them off to school on a sugar high, give them lunches and snacks laced with sugar, then expect them to sit quietly and do schoolwork all day and then people are shocked when the school says your kid has ADD/ADHD and the doctor says they have juvenile diabetes and a whole host of other conditions. The term child abuse comes to mind.
I am a retired RN. In the hospital I worked I noticed that some of the foods that were given to our diabetic patients had HFC, the first or second ingredient, for example the so called fruit juices, diabetic jellies……. I personally will not buy anything with HFC in it.
Yes yes yes! I can’t believe what crap the “dieticians” feed us when in hospital when it almost always actually contributes to our poor health condition. I visited a friend of mine in hospital recently and was shocked at the hidden sugars in all “food”. I tried to passively educate my friend, but it was like talking to a brick wall. He clearly is metabolically very unwell.
I’m a med surg RN and I was LITERALLY thinking this very thing this morning! I medicate my patients while they eat food provided by the hospital that is slowly killing themI. It’s insanity.
I had hypoglycemia for a long time as a teen. It took years to figure out that it was actually because i ate too much sugar. For a long time in my early adult life i ate extremely clean and it went away. When i met my husband, my eating habits got bad again, and it came back and i developed pcos. We are both eating much healthier now, but im also starting to go through menopause, and am dealing with painful ovarian cysts. I have screwed myself up and am reaping what ive sown as i get older. For all you young people, dont get into bad eating habits because you will pay for it in middle age.
Are you trying to eat a raw food diet and no added sugar or salt? Perhaps, nuts, seeds, beans, grains, vegetables and berries? Eating a low calorie diet and occasional fasting can also help. Are you trying to stay at a healthy weight?
yes, I respect you for taking accountability and responsibility for your actions. Many women (certainly not all) change for the worse during menopause and I've known for a while now that the foods and drinks that many women eat throughout their lives are causing these issues. Consistent bad decisions catch up eventually. Just menopause/infertility in general happens as EARLY as it does for the majority of modern women because of all the poison that females grow up putting in their bodies including all forms of synthetic medications. A baby girl is born with all the eggs she will ever have, but statistically, by the time most females reach the age of 30, they only have less than 5-7% of the eggs they had as children. this is due to all these poisons like processed anti-biotics (anti-life), processed sugars, GMOs, alcohol poisoning, smoking, etc. Some women in the Hunza community in Pakistan can give birth at the age of 90 years up to this day, these women are not superior, they merely live their lives the way they are supposed to live.

Adults don’t know how to say, “NO!” They give in to children who refuse to eat this or that then cave and let them eat non nutritious food. Schools do the same. Nobody has the guts to change menus or let kids starve if they don’t want to eat. Believe me, they won’t starve. My children ate homemade soup from the time they could eat. Homemade soup takes 10 minutes to make. And you always have something to eat in fridge! Home Economics was removed from curriculum back in the day. Nobody is learning how and why food is so important especially with children. Wake up!

Its like big youtube channels with million subscribbers never reply in comment section to people....because someone else is running the channel for them, on youtube, on Favcebook, on twitter, on Instagram.......but you click "like" on their content, because millions of people did too. Only small channels reply to commenters, and they dont chase "likes" because their motivation is not to have million subscribers but healthy content. So these small channels activelly know what the subscriber is interested about, because thye read alot of comments. Food industry is similar......You can not directly ask them anything and you like their content because million people buy their stuff. These industries only watch algorithm andd statistics of interest, not the algorithm of what is healthy. thye neverask any customer directly what thye like. As big youtube channels or facebook channels never ask directly any single commenter, what they like, because they are only interested in numbers and statistic not the connection with people.
Both of my dad's parents lived to be 95. My grandfather built a house with my dad at 85. They ate sugar. Grammy always had candy dishes out. She made the best coconut cake with jelly beans for easter and my bday. Back then, the food industry wasn't hip on killing us for greed. Times have changed.
The difference then was that they weren’t eating all of the added sugar in processed food, they were eating much cleaner so a piece of candy here and there, cakes for special events etc didn’t have the same impact.
Sugar is in so much nowadays. And not just plain sugar, but the overly processed high fructose corn syrup, sucralose, etc. That, along with the seed oils is nasty for your body. Ever since my husband and I switched to mostly homemade food and cut out most sugar, we feel better, more awake, have more energy, most of my husband's GI issues went away, and my anxiety has mostly disappeared.
It’s so hard when everyone else around you doesn’t care or believe that sugar is bad. I had to take my mold healing journey pretty much alone. How do meet others who are already avoiding mold, sugar and toxins bc I don’t want to have to convince anyone bc not everyone is ready yet?
I can relate. If I surround myself with family, I find myself having to explain my way of eating endlessly. It’s exhausting. And they always say, it’s all in my head. Meanwhile, they are all overweight and have varying degrees of physical and mental health issues like anxiety and insomnia. I’m recovering on my own and I’m okay with that. Take care of you!
i have diabetes type 1 for 18 years and have developed anxiety and depression in later years this have been really helpful for me to understand what high blood sugar do to my mental health and body. i need to be more careful with my blood sugar
Type 1 diabetic Cyrus Khambatta wrote Mastering Diabetes book and has success on low fat whole food plant based diet. Most people who start the diet he recommends have to reduce their insulin to prevent hypoglycemia.
I wished the video focused more on all the good things that’ll happen to your body if you stop consuming sugar instead of all the bad things sugar causes. That would be great for motivation. I came here to get hyped to quit but left even more stressed about sugar than motivated. Positive reinforcement matters you know. Thanks for all the info though
Well, I'm basically off of white sugar and white flour. My diet changed dramatically to a low sucrose diet after I was diagnosed with sucrose intolerance because I'm not producing sucrace. I've lost another 10# and feel a lot better. I have a special diet and have reduced my stomach issues dramatically.
Meanwhile you eat bacon and coffee. And if we tried to label it as dangerous, you'll yell 'FREEDOM' and complain about big government "trying to take meat away"
@@diegoheredia1223No one can do it in moderation. If you look at how many grams are actually in one serving of something, that one serving already isn't enough to satisfy a craving. Most servings aren't one cup (or around I guess 6-8 ounces). No point in bothering to eat something with what is in the parameters of healthiness. This is a major contributor as to why people don't start in the first place to lessen their food intake in any way.
I'm loving your slower rate of speech. I'm just not understanding my high fasting glucose, cholesterol, borderline insulin resistance considering my clean diet, too many supplements, and fasting practice for the past five years. Always had a decent diet but now it's pristine. Wishing i could consult with you in this Function Health journey.

Betty you can do this. I was a huge sugar addict! I don't eat sugar of any form anymore, but still consider myself to be one, just like an alcoholic. I would hide candy wrappers in the trash so no one would see them. I'd binge eat sugar all the time. I've been carnivore two years and I've never been happier in my life. I've healed everything. Sugar is not tempting to me anymore, but I know that I can never have one drop or bite because it will bring all those cravings back big time. A cocaine addict can't finally become clean and then say, "Oh, I can just have a little in moderation, or every now and then.". That won't work. I know I'm an addict, so I stay away. Other people can eat it in front of me and it doesn't bother me, I don't want it. But I can never put it in my mouth. There are ways to overcome these cravings. Carnivores can help you and are a great support community.
Praying for you. 🙏🏻✝️ Long story short: I truly understand. Pray, gently exercise, read the Bible, and don't eat sugar. Journal your feelings instead of eating for them.
I was a high school administrator, and every school day I stood in the lunch room and watched the garbage that the federal government subsidized. I remember asking the lady in charge about the serving requirements. Like a protein, two vegetables, a fruit etc. I remember looking at a lunch one day and saying “I only see one vegetable” in which she replied “no there are two!”. “Right there.” One was green beans she stated and with a straight face she pointed out “catsup” as the other vegetable. Oh a “peanut butter goodie” was considered extra protein. It is protein but really!
Ikr! Senator Amy Klobuchar fought to get catsup declared a vegetable, and french fries too. So french fries with catsup counts as "two servings of vegetables" in school lunches. I'd only ever homeschool. The school system is a mess, nutritionally as well as psychologically, and US schools have appallingly low literacy and mathematics proficiency among graduates.
Yeah... we may as well just serve nuts, beans and rice, garden salad, apples, mandarin oranges and water for school lunch. Maybe not too much variation from that.
I agree, I stopped all processed sugar three months ago and I feel better than I ever remember feeling my entire life, I’m 52 yo male…. My anxiety is nearly gone completely….seriously I look so much younger now! Sugar is poison!
Mark, I really appreciate you, I've been a follower of your channel for a long time and I've learned a lot from you. But, I must say that "listen to your body" is a very bad advice. I'm hooked on sugar like a mad person, I'd eat a kilo of nutella a day and then cake and then a whole pineapple and repeat. I feel these cravings in my whole body and I'm loving the high. Right now I should listen to the voice of reason instead of my body. My body is fooling me, i don't feel bad side effects from the amount of sugar that I'm eating, i only feel that I want more of it. I'm not even fat, my BMI is normal, probably because I exercise a lot. But metabolically, I'm very sure I'm unhealthy. So, people, you better listen to Mark's podcast and double check with your body ❤😂😉
I only eat sugar only when I get a craving for a confection, and I always suffer terribly afterwards. I quit it. Today is the 3rd day of the rest of my life. No more confections.
Got off my belived candy fir a few months now buying some a couple times a week. It's a craving. Weight always the same but still trying to quit, again and again.
Update on using avocado. Seems I went a bit too fast into eating other things. I can't tolerate oxalates. I was eating whole avocados. Then sweet potatoes (alternating). It was horrible for a few days. I went to fresh lemon juice in water and I'm fine now.
Anecdotally, I've always been a sugar fiend and I've always had anxiety and depression. The only times I felt in control of my mental health were times I actively cut out added sugar and focused on eating whole, homemade foods. Once I start eating sugar, I find the cravings are intense, my mood changes, and I start sleeping poorly and feeling depressed - all triggering a desire for more sugar for that "uplifting" effect. It's wild. And the amount of sugar in our food supply is absurd.
I really appreciate you listing the things we can eat, n eat once in awhile. I’m new to all this so that information is exactly what I need! One thing I know will be impossible-artificial sweeteners. I only use stevia w/my coffee. There’s erythritol in my energy drink too. Oh, n my caffeine free Diet Coke w/lemon wedge every night. I don’t drink alcohol so this is my vice. 🤷🏼♀️
I quit sugar three years ago and my depression is just as bad as ever. I went Keto so I lost weight and otherwise feel fantastic. I don’t eat overprocessed food and stick to a whole food diet. I switched to Primal Kitchen products to get rid of sugar and crap oils in salad dressing and ketchup. I quit soda 10 years ago. Alas, my depression still comes every three years when the meds wear off.
Have you checked your labs? I found that for me, I was not eating enough fat and was severely low on vitamin D. After continuing keto into a more high-fat carnivore while getting enough sleep from 10pm-5am and dosing vitamin D3+k with a minimum of 170g of fat per day, my depression went into remission and has still been in remission without medication for 3+ years.
SsRIs can be a factor here. I would recommend having your B vitamin, D3, and magnesium monitored. These medications contain fluoride which rob your body of essential nutrients and trace minerals.
Dear Dr. Sorry this is a little out of context, but I am new and the video you made that attracted me to you was made a decade ago. I have had 'IBS' for over 20 years. It was a crazy time in my life, but from what I can remember, my diet was mostly meat and wheat. I am now plant based for some years and even fast now and then and do not drink and have removed refined sugar (but still a wholemeal bread addict). I think... I have narrowed it down to the Toxin caused by Smithii. I am about to attempt a combination of extended fasting and water kefir and probiotics. But I do not know what to do about my own immune system attacking my proteins.
You should really try milling your own whole grains fresh and making bread from that freshly-milled flour yourself. Bread made this way is NOT like a brick AT ALL. It is super nutrient-dense and can even be light and fluffy, depending on the type of grain you use. Soft white wheat is more fluffy, but even hard red and hard white wheat isn’t anything at all like the so-called “whole grain” bread you can buy in the stores! It’s completely different! And it’s delicious! Actually try it yourself. You’ll never go back.

I do love sugar but it doesn’t love me. I’ve cut back significantly over the past year and try not to eat it. I sparingly eat a bit of a goody here and there.
I rarely eat sugar except in Auguson Farms creamy wheat cereal in winter and I don`t put much in it. I sometimes eat oatmeal that I get in a food pantry bag and add whole milk/butter powder. I`m poor so I mostly eat lightly smoked sardines in olive oil or mustard (I buy at least two 18 pack cases a month), tuna, crackers, nuts, peanut butter and whatever I can grow (I have a vegetable garden 365 days a year and three types of 15 young fruit trees, blackberries, strawberries, ground cherries etc), but sometimes I eat carbs and feel better when I`m very hungry. I make biscuits and don`t buy bread and only eat lard or olive oil. No soda. I use organic raw sugar or blackstrap molasses.

You can certainly grow a Dwarf Everbearing Mulberry tree indoors in a 5 gallon bucket under a 24w full spectrum light but wear shades when near the light because in some people it can cause vision problems (they say...I don`t have this problem and the UV has helped my eyesight, so). Start with the following to begin learning: IMPORTANT HOBBY TIP: If you live somewhere where you can`t grow food outside and you would like to grow tomatoes look up Pinocchio or Orange Hat micro tomatoes and the ways people grow them inside. Anyone can do it and there are lots of things that are far easier like various salad green types and things like basil. My Pinocchio orange tomato plants are only 8 inches tall and are absolutely LOADED with clusters of fruit and continuously blooming and it`s very easy to get cuttings and make more. My plants are nearly one year old right now.

You can get bucket lids with grow baskets, nutrients, and clay pebbles online cheap. Get a power strip with a timer and a 24 watt full spectrum LED bulb. You will have success. It doesn`t have to be fancy. That`s not true. Not complicated. But it does take practice. It`s fun though. You might make the next breakthrough in the technology too. We`re all helping to develop it so just remember that.

I'm an MD Anderson cancer patient and I agree wholeheartedly about the crap they sell in the cafeterias. I always go across the walkway to the restaurant on the second floor. They always have a protein I can eat. Good luck and I wish you lots of healing.
I lost 200 lb naturally over 3 years and have kept it off for the last year easily by doing what he says but I have to have a fold it low carb wrap with my breakfast for at least some front end carbohydrates. Net carbs are only five grams or something like that. Is this going to spike me it's loaded with fiber and has five grams protein. Thanks everyone❤
All you need to do is a little research. Make it like 'the effect of adding protein to carbs on Glycemic Index" Don't let people tell you that bread acts the same as sugar. Generally, you will eat bread in combination with other foods. When they measure for the effect of various carbs on blood sugar, they give the carb by itself, not as part of a whole meal. So it's really a little misleading. Even protein will raise your blood sugar. I won't advise you as to the amount of carbs you should eat, but by experience, I find that my energy levels have much improved since I cut down to about 150 g in a day. No good news on the scale yet LOL
HELP! For me controlling blood sugar is rocket science😢 No one discusses Type 1 Diabetes....I was diagnosed in 2021 at 47, outta nowhere & no family history. I was doing keto thankfully so I didn't go into DKA. I've since went to a low carb diet but I'm suffering from inflammation, brain fog, insomnia, fatigue, anxiety & more.
My husband has type 1 and I was thinking how this would apply to him. Probably same principles but instead of using a straight simple carb/sugar to bring up a low, using a whole food source (a few figs, etc). He was diagnosed at age 6, I can’t imaging getting such a late in life diagnosis.
I recommend book Mastering Diabetes by Cyrus Khambatta. Cyrus is a type 1 diabetic. He tried low carb diet, but that didn't work for him. He is currently on a low fat whole food plant based diet with good results. Cyrus has a degree in nutrition science and learned that fat increased insulin resistance. He has cut his insulin use by decreasing his fat intake even though he has a large intake of carbs.
There are good sugar replacements. Allulose , Bocha sweet and swerve. I bake all kinds of treats sugar free and of course gluten free. You would never know there was no sugar…
But a sweet taste triggers dopamine. Similar risk of overeating. You have to wean yourself off the taste of sweetness by including more bitter foods in your diet. Your taste buds will renew in a few weeks and sweet food will seem overpoweringly sweet. Edit. A sweet taste also spikes insulin
@@sorrykay3450 Allulose is a prebiotic. You should never over eat anything. But for people who need something sweet it’s a good option. Or dark chocolate as long as it’s 73% or higher. You can eat a square not the whole bar if you need a fix…
@@Killerbee67 Even with 95% choc I can overdo it sometimes! It's only habit that makes you want something sweet. But if you know what your own sweet threshold is before you succumb to the slippery slope of a sweet binge, that's fine.
Actual meal at our preschool today : Pizza, canned corn, canned fruit cocktail in light syrup, milk... tomorrow its breaded chicken nuggets, canned pears and canned carrots, rice, milk....then they wonder why the kids are bonkers in the afternoon...
@@mikerudd4943 caffeine is a drug with side-effects. It’s not an essential nutrient. The body needs exactly zero caffeine. It ‘can be’ beneficial if you’re a pilot flying during an emergency and need a pick-me-up. It’s not something anybody should be consuming regularly. It’s beneficial the way nicotine is beneficial for somebody addicted to nicotine. If you don’t take it, you sure feel lousy.
@RC-qf3mp it is not so much the caffeine but the nutrients or natural chemicals. Tea and coffee. I think the most studied ingredient on the planet. Both good and bad results. Depends on the individual. I for one don't "need" it, but I do believe it helps my system. I have gone off of coffee many times and started again when finding out I had (had) NAFLD. I "believe " the coffee was one part of clearing my liver
I converted to stevia I make keto chocolate mouse with 92 percent cocoa when I fell like something sweet but when I reset my diet from high processed foods to whole foods that was the only way to get rid of my brain wanting sugar , my whole body stopped aching and energy returned sugar is addictive and destroys the microbes in the gut

Yes for sure I agree with the sweet taste and I am finding gradually I use less and crave less but just saying what works for me , bad eating habits is the hardest to reset especially sugar addiction or high carb eating for years , for me I am ok with stevia only use tiny amounts as ten times sweeter , some people can go cold Turkey and some take years to transition off processed foods and sugar if your are a stressed or unhappy person it can make it harder to wean off , so a healthier sweet taste like stevia would be at least a starting point .
@@qhride1 Yes, I use stevia and ethrytol in small amounts too. A lot of people use them to make regular sweetness desserts. I make sugar -free mug cakes and mash them up with a sprinkling of stevia. Those are on my good days when the requirement for sweetness is very low.. Unfortunately, I had some 'low sugar and high fibre' shop biscuits today. I thought I would only have a few after my meal but it was a bit more than that! Still addictive. Blood sugar is raging.

The body heals ... when you eliminate foods that get in the way. No need to eliminate everything ... except one of the more detrimental foods. The diet that promotes the most healing is my "Carboraider diet". Protein & fat is burdon-some. Carbs are not.

Yes, sounds like they don’t go off the rails, they stick to a small amount. Also if you’re active it should burn it off. I guess our problem is we want more then more.
I basically survive on sugar. I would have a cup of very creamy sugary coffee in the morning and I wouldn’t eat anything all day. No need for lunch break.

Don’t eat any sugar substitutes or sweeteners for three days. Whenever you want sugar, eat bacon. Problem solved. Cravings go away.

I had hypoglycemia for a long time as a teen. It took years to figure out that it was actually because i ate too much sugar. For a long time in my early adult life i ate extremely clean and it went away. When i met my husband, my eating habits got bad again, and it came back and i developed pcos. We are both eating much healthier now, but im also starting to go through menopause, and am dealing with painful ovarian cysts. I have screwed myself up and am reaping what ive sown as i get older. For all you young people, dont get into bad eating habits because you will pay for it in middle age.
Are you trying to eat a raw food diet and no added sugar or salt? Perhaps, nuts, seeds, beans, grains, vegetables and berries? Eating a low calorie diet and occasional fasting can also help. Are you trying to stay at a healthy weight?
yes, I respect you for taking accountability and responsibility for your actions. Many women (certainly not all) change for the worse during menopause and I've known for a while now that the foods and drinks that many women eat throughout their lives are causing these issues. Consistent bad decisions catch up eventually. Just menopause/infertility in general happens as EARLY as it does for the majority of modern women because of all the poison that females grow up putting in their bodies including all forms of synthetic medications. A baby girl is born with all the eggs she will ever have, but statistically, by the time most females reach the age of 30, they only have less than 5-7% of the eggs they had as children. this is due to all these poisons like processed anti-biotics (anti-life), processed sugars, GMOs, alcohol poisoning, smoking, etc. Some women in the Hunza community in Pakistan can give birth at the age of 90 years up to this day, these women are not superior, they merely live their lives the way they are supposed to live.

Adults don’t know how to say, “NO!” They give in to children who refuse to eat this or that then cave and let them eat non nutritious food. Schools do the same. Nobody has the guts to change menus or let kids starve if they don’t want to eat. Believe me, they won’t starve.
My children ate homemade soup from the time they could eat. Homemade soup takes 10 minutes to make. And you always have something to eat in fridge!

Both of my dad's parents lived to be 95. My grandfather built a house with my dad at 85. They ate sugar. Grammy always had candy dishes out. She made the best coconut cake with jelly beans for easter and my bday. Back then, the food industry wasn't hip on killing us for greed. Times have changed.

Sugar is in so much nowadays. And not just plain sugar, but the overly processed high fructose corn syrup, sucralose, etc. That, along with the seed oils is nasty for your body.
Ever since my husband and I switched to mostly homemade food and cut out most sugar, we feel better, more awake, have more energy, most of my husband's GI issues went away, and my anxiety has mostly disappeared.

I can relate. If I surround myself with family, I find myself having to explain my way of eating endlessly. It’s exhausting. And they always say, it’s all in my head.

Type 1 diabetic Cyrus Khambatta wrote Mastering Diabetes book and has success on low fat whole food plant based diet. Most people who start the diet he recommends have to reduce their insulin to prevent hypoglycemia.
I wished the video focused more on all the good things that’ll happen to your body if you stop consuming sugar instead of all the bad things sugar causes. That would be great for motivation. I came here to get hyped to quit but left even more stressed about sugar than motivated. Positive reinforcement matters you know. Thanks for all the info though
Well, I'm basically off of white sugar and white flour. My diet changed dramatically to a low sucrose diet after I was diagnosed with sucrose intolerance because I'm not producing sucrace. I've lost another 10# and feel a lot better. I have a special diet and have reduced my stomach issues dramatically.

@@diegoheredia1223No one can do it in moderation. If you look at how many grams are actually in one serving of something, that one serving already isn't enough to satisfy a craving. Most servings aren't one cup (or around I guess 6-8 ounces). No point in bothering to eat something with what is in the parameters of healthiness. This is a major contributor as to why people don't start in the first place to lessen their food intake in any way.

Betty you can do this. I was a huge sugar addict! I don't eat sugar of any form anymore, but still consider myself to be one, just like an alcoholic. I would hide candy wrappers in the trash so no one would see them. I'd binge eat sugar all the time. I've been carnivore two years and I've never been happier in my life. I've healed everything. Sugar is not tempting to me anymore, but I know that I can never have one drop or bite because it will bring all those cravings back big time. A cocaine addict can't finally become clean and then say, "Oh, I can just have a little in moderation, or every now and then.". That won't work. I know I'm an addict, so I stay away. Other people can eat it in front of me and it doesn't bother me, I don't want it. But I can never put it in my mouth.
There are ways to overcome these cravings. Carnivores can help you and are a great support community.

I was a high school administrator, and every school day I stood in the lunch room and watched the garbage that the federal government subsidized. I remember asking the lady in charge about the serving requirements. Like a protein, two vegetables, a fruit etc. I remember looking at a lunch one day and saying “I only see one vegetable” in which she replied “no there are two!”. “Right there.” One was green beans she stated and with a straight face she pointed out “catsup” as the other vegetable. Oh a “peanut butter goodie” was considered extra protein. It is protein but really!

Mark, I really appreciate you, I've been a follower of your channel for a long time and I've learned a lot from you. But, I must say that "listen to your body" is a very bad advice. I'm hooked on sugar like a mad person, I'd eat a kilo of nutella a day and then cake and then a whole pineapple and repeat. I feel these cravings in my whole body and I'm loving the high. Right now I should listen to the voice of reason instead of my body. My body is fooling me, i don't feel bad side effects from the amount of sugar that I'm eating, i only feel that I want more of it. I'm not even fat, my BMI is normal, probably because I exercise a lot. But metabolically, I'm very sure I'm unhealthy. So, people, you better listen to Mark's podcast and double check with your body ❤😂😉

Got off my belived candy fir a few months now buying some a couple times a week. It's a craving. Weight always the same but still trying to quit, again and again.
Haven't had sugar in 4 months and I still crave it so much. It's in my house and if I walk past it and see it I really want some.

Update on using avocado. Seems I went a bit too fast into eating other things. I can't tolerate oxalates. I was eating whole avocados. Then sweet potatoes (alternating). It was horrible for a few days.

Anecdotally, I've always been a sugar fiend and I've always had anxiety and depression. The only times I felt in control of my mental health were times I actively cut out added sugar and focused on eating whole, homemade foods. Once I start eating sugar, I find the cravings are intense, my mood changes, and I start sleeping poorly and feeling depressed - all triggering a desire for more sugar for that "uplifting" effect. It's wild. And the amount of sugar in our food supply is absurd.

I only use stevia w/my coffee. There’s erythritol in my energy drink too. Oh, n my caffeine free Diet Coke w/lemon wedge every night. I don’t drink alcohol so this is my vice. 🤷🏼♀️

I quit sugar three years ago and my depression is just as bad as ever.
I went Keto so I lost weight and otherwise feel fantastic. I don’t eat overprocessed food and stick to a whole food diet. I switched to Primal Kitchen products to get rid of sugar and crap oils in salad dressing and ketchup. I quit soda 10 years ago.
Alas, my depression still comes every three years when the meds wear off.
Have you checked your labs? I found that for me, I was not eating enough fat and was severely low on vitamin D. After continuing keto into a more high-fat carnivore while getting enough sleep from 10pm-5am and dosing vitamin D3+k with a minimum of 170g of fat per day, my depression went into remission and has still been in remission without medication for 3+ years.

SsRIs can be a factor here. I would recommend having your B vitamin, D3, and magnesium monitored. These medications contain fluoride which rob your body of essential nutrients and trace minerals.

Dear Dr. Sorry this is a little out of context, but I am new and the video you made that attracted me to you was made a decade ago.
I have had 'IBS' for over 20 years. It was a crazy time in my life, but from what I can remember, my diet was mostly meat and wheat.
I am now plant based for some years and even fast now and then and do not drink and have removed refined sugar (but still a wholemeal bread addict).
I think... I have narrowed it down to the Toxin caused by Smithii.
I am about to attempt a combination of extended fasting and water kefir and probiotics.
But I do not know what to do about my own immune system attacking my proteins.
You should really try milling your own whole grains fresh and making bread from that freshly-milled flour yourself. Bread made this way is NOT like a brick AT ALL. It is super nutrient-dense and can even be light and fluffy, depending on the type of grain you use. Soft white wheat is more fluffy, but even hard red and hard white wheat isn’t anything at all like the so-called “whole grain” bread you can buy in the stores! It’s completely different! And it’s delicious! Actually try it yourself. You’ll never go back.

I do love sugar but it doesn’t love me. I’ve cut back significantly over the past year and try not to eat it. I sparingly eat a bit of a goody here and there.
I rarely eat sugar except in Auguson Farms creamy wheat cereal in winter and I don`t put much in it. I sometimes eat oatmeal that I get in a food pantry bag and add whole milk/butter powder. I`m poor so I mostly eat lightly smoked sardines in olive oil or mustard (I buy at least two 18 pack cases a month), tuna, crackers, nuts, peanut butter and whatever I can grow (I have a vegetable garden 365 days a year and three types of 15 young fruit trees, blackberries, strawberries, ground cherries etc), but sometimes I eat carbs and feel better when I`m very hungry. I make biscuits and don`t buy bread and only eat lard or olive oil. No soda. I use organic raw sugar or blackstrap molasses.

You can certainly grow a Dwarf Everbearing Mulberry tree indoors in a 5 gallon bucket under a 24w full spectrum light but wear shades when near the light because in some people it can cause vision problems (they say...I don`t have this problem and the UV has helped my eyesight, so). Start with the following to begin learning: IMPORTANT HOBBY TIP: If you live somewhere where you can`t grow food outside and you would like to grow tomatoes look up Pinocchio or Orange Hat micro tomatoes and the ways people grow them inside. Anyone can do it and there are lots of things that are far easier like various salad green types and things like basil. My Pinocchio orange tomato plants are only 8 inches tall and are absolutely LOADED with clusters of fruit and continuously blooming and it`s very easy to get cuttings and make more. My plants are nearly one year old right now.

You can get bucket lids with grow baskets, nutrients, and clay pebbles online cheap. Get a power strip with a timer and a 24 watt full spectrum LED bulb. You will have success. It doesn`t have to be fancy. That`s not true. Not complicated. But it does take practice. It`s fun though. You might make the next breakthrough in the technology too. We`re all helping to develop it so just remember that.

I'm an MD Anderson cancer patient and I agree wholeheartedly about the crap they sell in the cafeterias. I always go across the walkway to the restaurant on the second floor. They always have a protein I can eat.

I lost 200 lb naturally over 3 years and have kept it off for the last year easily by doing what he says but I have to have a fold it low carb wrap with my breakfast for at least some front end carbohydrates. Net carbs are only five grams or something like that. Is this going to spike me it's loaded with fiber and has five grams protein. Thanks everyone❤
All you need to do is a little research. Make it like 'the effect of adding protein to carbs on Glycemic Index" Don't let people tell you that bread acts the same as sugar. Generally, you will eat bread in combination with other foods. When they measure for the effect of various carbs on blood sugar, they give the carb by itself, not as part of a whole meal. So it's really a little misleading. Even protein will raise your blood sugar. I won't advise you as to the amount of carbs you should eat, but by experience, I find that my energy levels have much improved since I cut down to about 150 g in a day. No good news on the scale yet LOL

HELP! For me controlling blood sugar is rocket science😢 No one discusses Type 1 Diabetes....I was diagnosed in 2021 at 47, outta nowhere & no family history. I was doing keto thankfully so I didn't go into DKA. I've since went to a low carb diet but I'm suffering from inflammation, brain fog, insomnia, fatigue, anxiety & more.
My husband has type 1 and I was thinking how this would apply to him.
Probably same principles but instead of using a straight simple carb/sugar to bring up a low, using a whole food source (a few figs, etc).
He was diagnosed at age 6, I can’t imaging getting such a late in life diagnosis.
A functional nutritionalist can help.
I recommend book Mastering Diabetes by Cyrus Khambatta. Cyrus is a type 1 diabetic. He tried low carb diet, but that didn't work for him. He is currently on a low fat whole food plant based diet with good results. Cyrus has a degree in nutrition science and learned that fat increased insulin resistance. He has cut his insulin use by decreasing his fat intake even though he has a large intake of carbs.
Also, forgot to mention if you start low fat whole food plant based diet you might have to lower your insulin to prevent hypoglycemia.

There are good sugar replacements. Allulose , Bocha sweet and swerve. I bake all kinds of treats sugar free and of course gluten free. You would never know there was no sugar…
But a sweet taste triggers dopamine. Similar risk of overeating.
You have to wean yourself off the taste of sweetness by including more bitter foods in your diet.
Your taste buds will renew in a few weeks and sweet food will seem overpoweringly sweet.

It ‘can be’ beneficial if you’re a pilot flying during an emergency and need a pick-me-up. It’s not something anybody should be consuming regularly. It’s beneficial the way nicotine is beneficial for somebody addicted to nicotine. If you don’t take it, you sure feel lousy.
@RC-qf3mp it is not so much the caffeine but the nutrients or natural chemicals. Tea and coffee. I think the most studied ingredient on the planet. Both good and bad results. Depends on the individual. I for one don't "need" it, but I do believe it helps my system. I have gone off of coffee many times and started again when finding out I had (had) NAFLD. I "believe " the coffee was one part of clearing my liver

I converted to stevia I make keto chocolate mouse with 92 percent cocoa when I fell like something sweet but when I reset my diet from high processed foods to whole foods that was the only way to get rid of my brain wanting sugar , my whole body stopped aching and energy returned sugar is addictive and destroys the microbes in the gut
But a sweet taste triggers dopamine. Similar risk of overeating.
You have to wean yourself off the taste of sweetness by including more bitter foods in your diet.
Your taste buds will renew in a few weeks and sweet food will seem overpoweringly sweet.
A sweet taste also spikes insulin release
Yes for sure I agree with the sweet taste and I am finding gradually I use less and crave less but just saying what works for me , bad eating habits is the hardest to reset especially sugar addiction or high carb eating for years , for me I am ok with stevia only use tiny amounts as ten times sweeter , some people can go cold Turkey and some take years to transition off processed foods and sugar if your are a stressed or unhappy person it can make it harder to wean off , so a healthier sweet taste like stevia would be at least a starting point .
@@qhride1 Yes, I use stevia and ethrytol in small amounts too. A lot of people use them to make regular sweetness desserts.
I make sugar -free mug cakes and mash them up with a sprinkling of stevia.
Those are on my good days when the requirement for sweetness is very low..
Unfortunately, I had some 'low sugar and high fibre' shop biscuits today. I thought I would only have a few after my meal but it was a bit more than that! Still addictive. Blood sugar is raging.
Day 4 no sugar and it’s not nearly as difficult as I thought! So far lol…….

The body heals ... when you eliminate foods that get in the way. No need to eliminate everything ... except one of the more detrimental foods. The diet that promotes the most healing is my "Carboraider diet". Protein & fat is burdon-some. Carbs are not.

Village people in Indonesia always use 2 teaspoons of sugar when cooking and they're fine. They don't eat processed food though.

I basically survive on sugar. I would have a cup of very creamy sugary coffee in the morning and I wouldn’t eat anything all day. No need for lunch break.
