fogito21 Robb was always afraid, and he didn't become stupid. He made mistakes, as any man did, but he wasn't stupid. He punished murderers within his own ranks that shamed him by violating his custody over innocents. He broke his promise to the Freys, yes, but he tried to make ammends. He could have not foreseen that an ancient guest right would be violated, no one could have. Also, keep in mind the odds were heavily stacked against him. He was a young man that took up the sword for his family and his people, and faced enemies much more experienced, greater in number, better equipped, better armoured and better fed. And yet he still never lost a battle. They had to resort to treachery and deceit of the most despicable variety to take him down, but the North remembers. The North remembers and they will never forget, and it's because the Starks were as honourable and inspiring of loyalty that the great houses of north will come to their aid always and see to it that they are restored their rightful place, with a Stark in Winterfell.
+Scooby dooderino no brandon was hotheaded stubborn and impulsive. he demanded justice from a mad man and thought that was what he would get. robb was smart enough to be afraid of what he was doing.
8 seasons done and dusted and season 1 still had the best scenes. No CGI, no dragons or armies, just brilliant writing and storytelling. This scene gave me more goosebumps than anything in the final season.
My thinking... every scene mattered, even few lines of dialogue meant major events. I didn't watch anything after season 5, which is also the worst of first five seasons.
+Jasper Bravo You seem a bit confused. The House is not called Twenty Goodmen, it is just House Goodmen. Ser Twenty is the supposed ruler of the house and one of the most dangerous men who ever lived.
If only HBO had the budget the next seasons would have. This scene was meant to have all the lords of the north rally up their men to go to winterfell with Robb. Would have been so epic.
Maester Luwin was worried he’d make the same mistake Rickard Stark made and go to kings landing to reason with a madman. Robb calling his banners was the only reasonable choice, Joffrey named himself an enemy and declared war. Unfortunately Robb wasn’t as smart later on and lost the war smh.
Things would have turned out quite different if the Maester hadn't forgotten to send a raven to Ser Twenty of House Goodmen - Lannisters would've gotten rekt.
@@kevinschmidt8101 Not really powerful per se, just has a lot of very small houses spread over a vast territory. The North cannot muster that many men actually. Their main advantage lies in its geography (vast, difficult to attack, easy to defend, has a key bottleneck and cannot be attacked from several sides) and the rather "rough" character of its inhabitants who make more hardy warriors.
@@dauud4970 Season 1-3 was the best season and Mark Addy as Robert was unbelievably good. Sean Bean too. Tyrion, Varys and Little fingers battle of wits in season 2 was amazing. The most boring part of the show was Dany and guess which storyline took centre stage oh yes it was Dany's ffs. The verbal fighting with wits was better than the nonsense fights and battles we got in the later seasons
He was cursed by having a treacherous best friend, an uncle who did not understand shit for tactics, an psycho aunt who wouldn't help, and a mother whose wrong advise he listened too and whose right advise he did not listen too.
Sigurd Torvaldsson he wasn't cursed by anything - he was responsible for the mistakes that he made. He should have remembered that whether or not he was friends with Theon; he was still a hostage for Balon's good behaviour. Sending him back to Pyke to treat was idiotic. He gave too much freedom of command to Roose Bolton, the second most powerful lord in the North and then proceeded to insult the second most powerful Riverlord - Walder Frey. Your most powerful ally is your biggest rival. When you're highborn and a King no less, you cannot afford to be marrying for love. Robb was unstoppable in the field but was a disaster politically. Also he ought to have treated with Stannis the Mannis rather than Renly, seeing as Eddard died proclaiming him as King n'all.
Rob The mistake with Bolton is a lot simpler than that. The mistake was not giving him too much power (inevitable when they are both fighting hundreds of miles apart), but giving him the command in the first place. Bolton is a very intelligent man and a powerful lord, but a terrible commander. He was not fit to lead the northern army. Even if the green fork battle was an unwinnable battle he still proved himself mediocre at several times with defeat after defeat. Only when Arya seized Harrenhal did his luck change. Robb admitted that Bolton scared him which is another reason why he shouldn't have got any power. Going to Renly was the right choice. Even if Stannis shits awesome and a north south rule with Robb and Stannis would be great Stannis would never agree to an alliance with Robb, not if the seven hells froze to ice. The two most logical alliances was obviously Renly and Balon Greyjoy. That and Lysa Arryn had she not been mental.
Sigurd Torvaldsson I wouldn't say that Roose is a terrible commander. It's difficult to base his abilities on any of the battles in the books seeing as the The Green Fork was essentially a distraction. At the time of The Ruby Ford, Roose had already planned to betray Robb. He lost most of the men he did on purpose to Gregor Clegane - strangely enough all the men that had already crossed the ford were Bolton and Karstark men. I'll agree that between the two of them Renly was the obvious choice seeing as at the time he had the Tyrells backing him. But if he's willing to dishonour himself by allying himself with someone who is obviously not the rightful King of the Iron Throne then why is he unable to "dishonour" himself by taking a girls virtue and not marry her? Had he compromised with Stannis he would have also gained the Navy he wanted from Balon.
Rob The green fork doesn't really count yes. He did an okay job, but he lost a lot of men. More that he needed to in order for the distraction to work. But don't forget the failed crossing while Tywin was in Harrenhal, embarrassing defeat which made several northern lords captives. And what about the retarded decision to send a third of his foot to Duskendale? Well maybe he planned Robb's demise from the very beginning, only pretending to lose. I think the show did it right. It was less about honor and more about actually loving the girl. He was a boy and didn't have enough wisdom yet. He needed a better advisor than his mother and his warlords. He should have given command of the second army to the Greatjon and keeping Bolton as his personal advisor. Then he would receive Bolton's wisdom while keeping him close.
Luwin as masterfully acted here. When he asks "All of them?", he's clearly worried about how many men Robb will summon. Too many? Too few? But right after Robb's response, his expression subtly changes. He knows that it isn't the greatest of ideas to go against the Crown, but he's also proud of Robb.
I think he was proud that Robb had thr courage to make a tough decision to declare war on the crown, but Maester knew it was the right decision and the most honorable thing to do, to rescue his father, the head of the family and the warden of the north, a decision that Ned would also have done.
If I may quote an exchange from Book I. Bran: Can a man truly be brave, even when he's afraid? Ned: That's the only time when a man can be truly brave. True courage isn't the absence of fear, but its overcoming. Doing the right thing, even when you know the danger.
"I will see what their words are worth." Robb had some of the most bad-ass lines and facial expressions. Also, I always feel comforted by Maester Luwin's face. He was a good man...
There was only one house that really betrayed Robb - Bolton. Robb's mother told him right away "don't trust Roose Bolton, and don't let Theon out of your sight." Roose planned to betray Robb almost immediately because there's thousands of years of bad blood between the two families. Every chance Roose had to let Robb's troops die and save his own, he arranged it. Robb should never have allowed Roose to command any Stark forces. Robb also forgot that Theon was the only thing keeping the Greyjoys out of the fight. Cat letting Jamie go was bad enough, and betraying Walder Frey (also traditionally untrustworthy) was the last straw. The Freys were sworn to the Tulleys, not the Starks, and Frey oaths have never been worth anything to begin with.
tbeller80 Thing is, i thought the Greyjoys hated the Lannisters, The whole greyjoy war started because of these two houses. Ned Stark only joined the fight for his friend King Robert. Why Balon didnt help Robb fight a common enemy i have no idea
Luwin really coming in with the clutch not only recognizing Sansa's handwriting (Rob may not have known) but that her words were not her own. He clearly understands the politics of King's Landing, and the players as well.
Ndima Silwana I don't know, the show seems to move toward illogical when it rushes books per season. Season 1 and 2 were incredible. Season 3-4 were amazing. Season 5 was good. The more they stray away from GRRM's detail and logical presentation, the more the show gets shitty...still a must-watch show though.
+William Faulkner Season 5 was good....? I thought it was horrible. If anything it show'd how weak of story writers D&D are.... just look at what they did to Dorne
Rupture31591 It was relatively (vs. other shows) good. Seasons 1-4 were incredible/amazing. My favorite characters are Stannis and Doran, so I am with you on how shitty season 5 is compared to the books...that doesn't mean it was bad TV.
When winter comes for war, You shall hear no Lions roar. When winter forces you to yield, No Stags shall graze upon the field. When winter creeps upon you from the shadows, No Roses shall bloom from the meadows. When winter wreaks havoc on the land, You can bet there'll be no Snakes in the sand. When winter brings to life all it finds grim, The Krakens will freeze where they swim. When winter sets and the land begins to shiver, The Flayed Man will start to rot and wither. When winter fights to the last sliver, No more Trouts shall swim in the river. When winter ravages and all despair, No Falcons shall fly high in the air. When winter shows you what happens when snow falls, Not even Dragons Breath shall warm you in your halls. When winter comes with all it's might, Only the Wolves shall howl in the night.
I am so pissed that the lannisters sigil is a Lion and yet there is absolutely no hint or mention of the existence of lions in the worldbuilding of the series, not even in the books... Briefly saying that the Lannister kings of old used to keep and breed lions at casterly rock would have been enough
@@oscarbautista4156 don't remeber what book it was in but their is definitely mentions of the westerlands lions being hunted to extinction. I think it might have been when Dany was considering going east to Ashigh from Quath and someone says that their are Lions in one of the lands on the way that are related to the western lions of old
Robb was around 15-18 years old at this point depending on the show or book but he was so young and did the one thing that no one in Westeros feared too much to do: Fight against the most powerful lord in the realm, Tywin Lannister. The balls of this lad.
@@marthvader14 Well he does. He looks 30. They could have at least shaved his beard and tell him to talk differently. I know of no 18 year olds who look and sound like that.

Your comment about Jon is not what bothers me, mistakes happen all the time. What bothers me is that 50 people liked your comment acknowledging that you wrote Jon instead of Robb. Fucking plebs
I love how even as unlikable Theon was at this time, even he knew this was a life or death gamble. I loved how that’s all he had to say too, “good, it means you’re not stupid.” There’s a big difference between being ignorant and arrogant. Theon is arrogant, not ignorant of the danger coming. A lot said, in such a small line. Edit: for people who don’t know the difference between arrogant and ignorant. Arrogant means you build up your self worth to be more than it is, and THATS definitely Theon. But ignorant means lacking common sense in general, which Theon isn’t ignorant. His one line means, he understood how drastic it was to call the banners.
@@SpitfireMLG I think no one would mind a Maester offering advice. In fact, isn't that normal? In the books he does a great deal to help raise Bran, as a tutor, mentor and friend.
@@SpitfireMLG Actually, Lady Mormont takes a lot of political advice. Maesters cannot deny their lords based on their opinions, but they can and should give advice...Rob is young and does not know as much as he needs to know, so Maester Luwin giving him advice would have been fine- he just happened to agree.
Oh oh and Maester Luwin himself advised Ned to go to King's Landing!! Even going so far to remind him of his oaths and to urge him to go. If that isn't political, nothing is.
Yes, and by your logic the entirety of this season took place in less than 10 hours. It's almost like time skips and just because a scene appears to be after another doesn't mean it is!
There were scenes that was supposed to be showing the Northern Lords receiving the letters from the Ravens of Winterfell, but they didn't have the actors at that time of filming.
I thought it was 3 eyed ravens crows. my theory about the show is that everything is 3 eyed ravens fault he wanted Ned Stark dead so Robb Stark can start a war and lose the war and Bran can be the 3 eyed raven.
My favorite part of this scene is seeing Maester Luwin 's look of approval. When the family discussed the Lannister's involvement in Bran's fall, he was clearly against any sort of rash action that would lead to war, but now he knows this is the correct response.
I just realized all the ravens flying away from the castle at the end of the scene is actually the ravens carrying the message to each of the lesser lords. Really puts into perspective just how many bannermen there were.
Bannermen ranges from landed knights who have small holdings and a few villages to highlords who command lords and those lords hold many lands with many of the said landed knights. That is a huge scope.
theon is a lot smarter than people give him credit for. he was able take take winterfell with such a small force. his mistakes were in his pride. also his will is incredible. to go through the torture ramsay put him through, and survive. especially the torture in the books, show ramsay is a pussy compared to book ramsay.
Gives me chills how he says "call the banners" with such determination and seriousness, with the Goodbye brother score in the background Goddamn this show was epic..
I love how Maester Luwin says "but it is a royal decree", he deepdown hopes that Robb calls the banners, and knows that's the only way to respond to Joffrey, yet he keeps his thoughts for himself and still speaks in a warning voice. Luwin was a good maester
This scene is masterful. Let’s not forget that “what their words are worth” was answered in full. Stark’s summon and the North assembles. The North Remembers.
Robb Stark sends word that he wishes you to join his new military campaign. You need to bring at least 8 troops to the army , and are instructed to raise more men with all due haste if you do not have enough . Continue...
0:51 I love Luwin's little "yeah..." he approves of Robb's bold decision and he's proud to see him making such decisions, it shows he's becoming a man like his father.
I always come back to this video from time to time. I love the look of fierce pride in Maester Luwin's face when Robb instructed him to call the banners.
Robb ddidnt want the throne. He just wanted his family safe and to rule the North/ Stannis should have joined with him, let Robb do as he pleases and Stannis gets the throne.
but stannis is like Ned Stark a honorable fool. In this case he wanted to be the King in 7 kingdoms even if he outnumbered he dont ally with the man whom his father died protesting because the illegimate's joffrey and stand up for the true king Stannis the Mannis
Robb still tried to help Stannis's cause. He attempted to lure Tywin tp the other side of the Trident so he wouldn't be able to relieve King's Landing, however Edmure fucked it up for him.
"Call the banners." "All of them, my lord?" "Hm, lets see. The Umbers, The Hornwoods, then on Friday the Karstarks, half the Boltons, everyone from Bear Island that starts with an "M" or who has not an "A" in his name, every third person that lives to the north of White Harbor and who has brown or red hairOF COURSE ALL OF THEM, IDIOT!"
NoHarmony In this moment Robb became a man. Maester Luwin isn’t stupid, he was testing Robb’s courage and was impressed with the outcome. Maester Luwin was obviously trying not to smile before he walked away.
Yeah, almost wish the book could have been re-written with a successful campaign. He smashes Tywin in an epic battle, frees Sansa, makes clear to Stannis the North doesn't belong to the kingdom anymore(they only bowed to dragons in the 1st place), then mobilizes for The White Walkers, united behind King Robb.
The actor who played Luwin was great. He sells the sense that he’s a frail, gentle man, but you could just as easily see him being bold and tough as a root like the blackfish. When I read the books and the speak of Jon Arryn I always picture the actor who played Luwin
I always loved Maestar Luwin's reaction when Robb tells him to summon his army, he looks extremely proud, like he just witnessed the boy he raised finally become a man.
Theon: “Are you afraid?” Robb: “I must be..” Theon: “Good” Robb: “Why is that good?” Theon: “It means you’re not stupid” Robb: “Not yet” Theon: “What?” Robb: “Hm?”
+Andrew Wang Can't deny, right about then, he was. If Theon had accepted being an adopted Stark rather than a Greyjoy... well, he'd probably be dead at the wedding. But still...
Eray Erkan I think he would have preferred a lot of things. Death and gelding is not a great choice to make. Still, to be just as fair, if he hadn't taken Winterfel and been stupid, he'd be both alive and still have his favorite toy. Pride kills more good warriors in Westeros than anything else.
+Andrew Wang Theone is actually proven to a tactical genius, he took winterfell with 30 men. Yes he knew the place, but it was said that for every man in winterfell there would need to be 100 men outside of it for the castle to fall. So he's definitely got some wisdom to him. Unfortunately he has made some very very poor decisions afterwards, but he has definitely paid for his mistakes. Reek is no more, he is Theon now.
I really wish Robb could have made it all the way up to the foot of the Red Keep and challenged Joffery to single combat. That would have been awesome.
Robb was good, he was raised well, he would have been a really good Lord of Winterfell or King in the North, but in the end he was too young. So he made really stupid mistakes and got killed at 16 because of them. That's why Martin is such a good author. Nobody is invincible, or perfect. And in that cruel world, when you pay for your mistakes, you pay the ultimate price.
The Westerlings were working with Tywin Lannister from the very beginning. It's not so much that he was stupid, but that he didn't understand that political warfare was different from physical warfare. None of this makes a lick of sense unless you read the books, btw. D&D in their infinite wisdom cut the Westerlings from the show, which ended up making Robb look like a tard.
Brian MacLeod Jeyne didn't knew anything though, lady Sybelle was the mistermind of the Westerlings' plot. Robb was a good lord/king and a very cunning commander of his armies, but he was rubbish at politics (like his father). And that led both of them to the grave.
"I must be afraid" "Good." "Why's that good?" "It means you're not stupid. Speaking of which, I'm about to get REAL stupid in season 2, so watch out for that haha" "Wha-"
It's amazing the things you don't notice until watching several times later. Robb's voice has a subtle tremble to it during those lines. He's both pissed and scared at the same time. Just like I hadn't noticed what Rickon says later on in this episode when Bran says Robb, Cat, and Ned will come back, "No they won't."
My real father lost his head at King's Landing. I made a choice and I chose wrong. And now I've burned everything down. -Theon Greyjoy This was the saddest line in game of thrones.
Stormcloaks are racist, they can go and fuck themself. Imperials reduce your freedom of religion so they can fuck themself too. He should just make his own party, with dragons and hokkers.
Skyrimlord The thalmor are even more racist, they're literally nazis. Talos was an imperial figure aswell, but the imperials seem to forget it. Most of your sentences didn't even make sense btw.
Luwin:"all of them my lord" Robb:"No just 30% of them should do fine against a gazillion Lannisters,Kingslanding and a fuckton of other southern lords....shit Luwin how much am I paying you for the old god's sake?"
oxcow99 u really believe Luwin is so much stupid to advice Robb to leave second powerful man in the North at home with big amount of bad defended castles, knowing that he's not loyal? Come on, delete your comment)
I think Maester Luwin was really asking, are you asking for a few bannermen as a personal guard to make a show of being Lord of Winterfell when you arrive in the capital... or are you asking for the entire military might of the North to go south, effectively declaring war.
the complexity of early game of thrones writing, initially you get the impression that robb was invincible with the way he talked about saving his father, the way he asked for the bannermen, the way he was prepared to go to war with currently the strongest house in the 7 kingdoms, you think its gonna be all as well since it gave you the impression of valor, bravery. But then it gets doused out like water pouring on a small fire as you see robb shaking from fear, but it doesnt give you tangential impression that its going to be a lost cause, because of the way theon justified the shaking as a normal reaction, that you’re meant to feel that way after preparing to declare war, and that is when you realize despite the fantasy setting, the show is incredibly well grounded, and that there are no heroes who are 100% brave all the time. It simply has characters that you are obligated to root for because they are written so incredibly well.
Whenever I see this, I always wonder what Luwin is thinking. On the one hand, he's a very cautious man who knows the consequences of war. But on the other hand, the family he serves is in great danger, and Robb has grown from a babe to a young lordling poised to take on the mantle of leadership in defence of that family.
Awesome scene, of course Robb's afraid he's been forced into becoming lord of Winterfell which is one thing, and now just made the decision to declare war, which takes more balls than any of us will ever get to understand.
Actually just calling the banners is not a declaration of war, in the books Dorne called its banners at the beginning of the war but did not join either side (yet? I am at like the 2/3 of the 3rd book)
kumisz You are right. Calling banners is akin to modern-day mobilization. Calling all the banners is what we would call a general mobilization, which is not a declaration of war but adds a lot of diplomatic tension.
Really lets ya down how they rarely show the important battles and troop movements, it would be better if they didn't just say words and "it shall be done"
Work around..............just before the wolf-hand biting scene, scan the outside of Winterfell with the various banners staked in the ground, then move inside for that scene with GreatJon.
I didn't mind Theon so much when he was with the Starks. At times he seemed to have his own inate wisdom at times ( like when he saved Bran with one skillfully placed arrow). It was his desire to please his father that was his downfall.
After he lost his cock he said that it was an impossible choice for me Stark or GreyJoy Jon replied by saying you didn't have to choose you're both stark and greyjoy. By all means I'd do what he did going back to his original father FOR ROBB but once he asks me to betray him im not doing it. I'd choose Stark if i was Theon. Idk about anybody else.
I'd say the Master wrote all those messages very very fast, but something like calling the banners is probably already written to all of the houses in case it needs to be done, still those birds went out quick too.

@@kevinschmidt8101 Not really powerful per se, just has a lot of very small houses spread over a vast territory. The North cannot muster that many men actually. @@zub41r75 im glad you didn't write the show fml
His character was pretty boring, don’t see what you mean.
he was born to be king.. like Rhaegar but he was cursed with loving the wrong lady
This whole scene is so impactful
I think he was proud that Robb had thr courage to make a tough decision to declare war on the crown, but Maester knew it was the right decision and the most honorable thing to do, to rescue his father, the head of the family and the warden of the north, a decision that Ned would also have done.

"This one was just the watcher, hang him last so he can watch the others die"
Robb Stark didn't even have his own POV in the book. It was Richard Madden's performance that stole the show.
*Now we'll see
Robb calls his banners to avenge his father, and gets betrayed and murdered by the houses that were sworn to his father. How unfair is that
He broke his oath with Walder Frey and lost the war the moment his mother released Jaime, and when he beheaded Rickard Karstark too.
Euron Greyjoy an excuse for accepting tywins gold
Ricks Beard who
There was only one house that really betrayed Robb - Bolton.

Theon was old enough to remember the Greyjoy Rebellion and witnessed war first hand. Crazy how he's pretty much "the vet" here compared to Robb

Theon: Are you afraid?
Robb: Yes
Theon: Good, means you are not stupid.
Robb: Are you afraid?
Theon: Surprisingly not at all.
Now that's funny!
My favorite part of this scene is seeing Maester Luwin
's look of approval. When the family discussed the Lannister's involvement in Bran's fall, he was clearly against any sort of rash action that would lead to war, but now he knows this is the correct response.
I like how luwin looks at robb to make sure he knows what he's doing right here and the pride in his eyes, beautiful acting
I just realized all the ravens flying away from the castle at the end of the scene is actually the ravens carrying the message to each of the lesser lords. Really puts into perspective just how many bannermen there were.
Some of them went to higher lords, Umber, Bolton etc. but most went to the direct vassals of Wintefell, Cervin etc.
Bannermen ranges from landed knights who have small holdings and a few villages to highlords who command lords and those lords hold many lands with many of the said landed knights. That is a huge scope.
You sure the Maester didn't accidentally kick a chair or stub his toe entering the room and scare the Ravens all out?

So he made really stupid mistakes and got killed at 16 because of them. That's why Martin is such a good author. Nobody is invincible, or perfect. And in that cruel world, when you pay for your mistakes, you pay the ultimate price.
No he was 18 when he died
In the show. In the books he was 16 when he died at the Twins.
Alessandro Mariotti Indeed. And it's pretty easy to get two young people to bang if you put them in the same room for long enough.
"I must be afraid"
"Good."
"Why's that good?"
"It means you're not stupid. Speaking of which, I'm about to get REAL stupid in season 2, so watch out for that haha"
"Wha-"

Dear gods, what is this reek I smell?
I know right it feels like being stabbed in the gut
It feels like I lost a vital member...
The one thing that I never forgotten was how wise Robb is for his years, he knows well enough to not expect loyalty just because people swore an oath.
Maester L looks kinda pleased, like good choice son I taught you well
theon almost wet himself when rob called the banners then he betrayed him, I still will never understand that move to this day
My real father lost his head at King's Landing. I made a choice and I chose wrong. And now I've burned everything down. -Theon Greyjoy

Which episode was this in ? Or was it in the books ?

If Theon hadn't betrayed Robb, he would be dead along with Robb and Catlyin Stark
"I wish you good fortune in the wars to come." - Ser Arthur Dayne, Mance, Stannis
I'm confused what this means
@@reubena7854 Ser Arthur Dayne said this before fighting Ned Stark . He eventually died (backstabbed)
0:40 Theon knew he was witnessing a historic moment.
Rebels of the North
Robb Stark>Ulfric Stormcloak
Well, if you join Ulfric he actually win. Robb loses, anyway.
Luiz Fernando Cavalcanti dos Santos If you join Ulfric. But not if you join the imperials.
Stormcloaks are racist, they can go and fuck themself. Imperials reduce your freedom of religion so they can fuck themself too. He should just make his own party, with dragons and hokkers.
Unknown Assailant He has a backstory, and a pretty decent one in fact. Go watch lore videos of him you ignorant swine.
Skyrimlord The thalmor are even more racist, they're literally nazis. Talos was an imperial figure aswell, but the imperials seem to forget it. Most of your sentences didn't even make sense btw.
Light the Beacons! Wait, sorry..
MUSTER THE ROHIRRIM!
"There are those who dwell in the mountain." (army of the dead, knights of the vale, wildings, Smaug, Dain) take your pick.
And where was Gondor?
Everything was going well until Robb decides to sell his honor and family in exchange for a pair of cheeks with an accent
"Call the banners. Tell them there's a new Wardon of the North. C'mon Theon, let's get some ladies and party."
Luwin:"all of them my lord"
Robb:"No just 30% of them should do fine against a gazillion Lannisters,Kingslanding and a fuckton of other southern lords....shit Luwin how much am I paying you for the old god's sake?"
lmao
Technically they don't pay him; they do send money to the citadel in place of that though.
I think Luwin is thinking of some of the banners who are not very loyal to House Stark. Roose Bolton is one example.
oxcow99 u really believe Luwin is so much stupid to advice Robb to leave second powerful man in the North at home with big amount of bad defended castles, knowing that he's not loyal?
Damn shame what happened to Theon...I used liked him :/
Axel Norén really? i used to hate him, he was a prick.
after he became reek he became a good guy, Reek FTW¡¡

1:24 maester luwin writes pretty fast judging by all those ravens :D:D
Probably it was pre-written
😅😅😅😅😅😅
Luwin was trying so hard to hide his hype behind his Maester professionalism
by far, the most insightful thing Theon has ever said.
This is the exact moment where Robb Stark called the banners.
"Why is that good?"
"Because the only time a man can be brave is when he's afraid."
I donno but when he says call the banners that is so badass you know there is no turning back
Back when GoT made you feel something with just a few lines of dialogue.
That old man must write letters really quick! Those ravens were flying away in a manner of seconds...
channelnw are you questionning master whateverhisname hand writing speed?!
That was the moment robb turned from a boy of 15 to the king in the north
In show robb was 18 when he became king in the north
0:43 Maester Luwin: "Hell yeah that's my boy"
Awesome scene, of course Robb's afraid he's been forced into becoming lord of Winterfell which is one thing, and now just made the decision to declare war, which takes more balls than any of us will ever get to understand.
Actually just calling the banners is not a declaration of war, in the books Dorne called its banners at the beginning of the war but did not join either side (yet? I am at like the 2/3 of the 3rd book)
***** No need for spoilers, thanks. I am at the half of the 5th book, and Doran plays rather cleverly, along with Wyman Manderly.
kumisz
You are right.
Calling banners is akin to modern-day mobilization. Calling all the banners is what we would call a general mobilization, which is not a declaration of war but adds a lot of diplomatic tension.

0:39 Theon's little nod to his bro... Good call! We're going to war; it's exciting and frightening at the same time.
Would have like to see the bannermen assembled though.
Really lets ya down how they rarely show the important battles and troop movements, it would be better if they didn't just say words and "it shall be done"
@@Invictus1074 because its expensive
@@Invictus1074 They didn't have the budget in the early seasons.
It takes an insane amount of guts for a teenage boy to make a decision like this.
1:00 The smartest thing Theon ever said
That is the most Metal thing to say "call the banners".
+boxocoffee Second most - behind "release the Kraken!"
This Theon fellow looks like he has a bright future ahead
I'd say the Master wrote all those messages very very fast, but something like calling the banners is probably already written to all of the houses in case it needs to be done, still those birds went out quick too.
maybe its a wire system that opens all cages at once xD
