Right. And in the process she turned the Tyrells, probably the most powerful house in Westeros, against her, probably caused the commonfolk of King's Landing to hate her even more than they already did, caused her last remaining son to kill himself, and now sits on the Iron Throne literally without one single ally. For that matter who the King has sex with is everyone’s business.
How many people had to die so Cersei could sleep with Jamie and bear his children? One hundred thousand? Two hundred thousand? Half a million? A million? And thats not including people that lost loved ones, property, or their innocence.
Is this system a good one? Not really. But it’s the system that they live in and they have to live by it’s rules. And with these rules come privileges and responsibility. I don’t think you’re going to get much sympathy from me for Cersei, who probably lives in more luxury than 99.999% of the planet at that time, when all she had to do was keep her skirt down, or at the very least take steps to ensure she wouldn’t get pregnant.

Love of girl-balls aside, no way. No way did he know he had Arya Stark in his castle and allow her to hear his plans, and fail to use her as a hostage. When his army movements were "accidentally" sent to the wrong lord, one loyal to the Starks, and he has Arya Stark handling letters and sitting in on strategy meetings, he would probably figure out what happened. Except what Tyrion wanted wasn't applause. He wanted *recognition and a genuine place at his father's side.* Tyrion is the main reason the capital didn't fall to Stannis. He ensured it held out under siege, crippled the enemy forces with the Wyldfire attack, and then led a sally that held the enemy army at bay, preventing them from entering the city and killing Joffrey ahead of Tywin's relief force. All while keeping the worst excesses of his psychotic nephew in check. Tyrion did exactly what Tywin sent him to do. It is Tywin who fails to recognise this because he's too blinded by his hatred of his own son.

If Tyrion tried to have a legit wedding with anyone before this, tywin would've considered it.
Sometimes reputation is still a deciding factor no matter what you did.
Hence, even tywin denied not because Tyrion's not capable of ruling casterly rock, it's because he would've turned it into a whore house therefore diminishing the Lannisters reputation from an outside view.

He wants to preserve the legacy of his house for the many generations to come. And he knows that his house won't stand the test of time if they're not feared by their enemies. Because optics plays an important part in warfare and he knows that if they're not seen as a formidable house to contend with, then their enemies will think that they are a weak house. So, Tywin knows like all good rulers that politics plays a huge part in winning, and he wants to be feared not out of sheer vanity but out of power.

His father Tytos was known for being "the toothless lion" who let people walk all over him. Young Tywin witnessed his father disgracing and humiliating himself by lending money that was never returned, doing nothing against rebel lords (namely the Reynes of Castamere and the Tarbecks), marrying his daughter Genna to Emmon Frey just to please Lord Walder while this marriage was uneven, letting his mistress steal his late wife's jewel, and so on. It's interesting how Tywin seems frustrated because all the traits he wants in his kids are instead spread out nearly equally among the three of them:
Jaime - Skilled in combat and strategy, and is charismatic.
Cersei - Utterly ruthless and puts family first (or her kids at least, in her own way)
Tyrion - Brillant and inventive, clever when it comes to politics and scheming
All of these traits are embodied in Tywin himself but he can't seem to get them all into just one of his kids, mostly because he himself failed in the parenting arena, something he can't seem to comprehend.

Tywin's strong traits are outshined by his bad ones. Jaime is a skilled, charismatic fighter and Tywin practically chased him off by never respecting his wishes to be a man of his own making. Cersei puts family first, but Tywin disregards that mainly because he believes she is not that smart (which I suppose holds merit). Tyrion is a brilliant strategist and politician, but Tywin can't unsee the monster that killed his beloved wife. All in all if Tywin had been more understanding towards his children and showed some leniency (even a little), the Lannisters could have been an unstoppable dynasty for years to come. Ironically, the way Tywin handled his kids results (or may results) in the very downfall of the family name he swore he'd protect after seeing his own father nearly destroy it. I agree with Samuel Godwin , his linear thinking is his own downfall.

Joffrey would've been absolutely destructive to the the Seven Kingdoms if he was left unchecked. He is bitter, cruel, clueless and childish and if people didn't refuse some of his demands and manipulate him otherwise, it would've been the end. He was a great Lord of Casterly Rock, a great Warden of the West, a great Hand of the King, a great battle commander, but a horrible father. However he sacrificed any pretense of love for any of his children, choosing instead to love himself and his position. He says a similar thing to Jaime in A Storm of Swords / season 4 of the show, when Jaime refuses his position as heir to Casterly Rock for the umpteenth time. Here's an excerpt from one of Jaime's later chapters in ASOS:
" 'I am a knight of the Kingsguard. The Lord Commander of the Kingsguard! And that’s all I mean to be!'
Firelight gleamed golden in the stiff whiskers that framed Lord Tywin’s face. A vein pulsed in his neck, but he did not speak. And did not speak. And did not speak.
The strained silence went on until it was more than Jaime could endure. 'Father...' he began.
'You are not my son.' Lord Tywin turned his face away. 'You say you are the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, and only that. Very well, ser. Go do your duty.' "
At the same time, this reinforces his line when he disowns Jaime.

4SidedStar Tywin hates Tyrion because he killed his wife (im assuming youve read the books), the fact that he is a dwarf is just the cherry on top. Joanna was the only thing that made Tywin smile and Tyrion kinda ruined it.
imagine a cab, brakes fail (not drivers fault) driver lives, female passenger dies. is it perfectly acceptable for the husband of the female passenger to hate the guts of the cab driver even though he know the driver was not at fault? Yes....

It’s very easy to like Tywin. Not a damn thing in this 15 minutes they showed, was wrong that he said. Harsh, but blunt tactful and honest about his beliefs. He was right with Jamie, pointing out his insecurities while also saying he would’ve done x y z. (Which, although again is blunt now with other houses, it still comes with a significant understanding of why, given the situation)
He was right with cersei, really not much else to say. Calls her a shit mom for not mentoring him into the right direction and commanding respect from her son. Both are accurate
And even with Tyrion, even if Tyrion wanted recognition or reward for his actions, Tywin doesn’t agree with that and he gave genuine reasons as to why.
Even though Tyrion developed, Tywin doesn’t see it yet; and tyrions rep of being a drunk with Whores genuinely already preceded him.
Only real argument to dislike Tywin is that he was obviously more of an ass to Tyrion because his birth killed his mom and he’s a dwarf. Outside of that, it’s kinda hard to disagree with a vast majority of his actions and words.
Forgot how great he was, just watched a few scene packs. Never rewatched GOT since 6/7/8 were kinda let downs, forgot how great the show was originally

  • @tusheschannel

That second scene between Tywin and Tyrion was amazing, Tywin never shows much in the way of emotion, but in his own reserved way you can feel his HATRED for Tyrion bursting through, who sits there and takes it, and you can sense Tyrions sadness and frustration coming through that despite all his abilities and talents, people still see him as a dwarf first and foremost, that moment at 12:14 where he instantly 'fuck you's Tywins threat really highlighted how nasty the emotional content of the scene truly was.

Theon never belonged in any family, and he always tried to find a place in this world. In the end, his actions and mistakes carry big consequences, and he goes through a treatment, no living ever deserves...
With exception of some ISIS members, but that's another subject...

+Eric Cartman I think you should read "A Clash of Kings." Theon didn't deserve such harsh torture, but he did deserve some punishment. The guy, while justifiably torn, was incredibly hard-headed and full of himself. The universe usually brings down people who put themselves on a pedestal, to humble them.

Jarrett R.K. Being full of himself? Hell, for that he just deserves to get punched or something xP
But that's the beauty of GoT. Nobody's innocent...

Eric Cartman lol yeah, and Ramsay Snow (I refuse to acknowledge him as Bolton), backhanded Theon with a mailed fist at the end of Theon's last chapter. Hit him so hard he spat blood and was knocked out, I think, and we don't see him again until A Feast for Crows or A Dance With Dragons, I forget which one has him as Reek.

One thing the show improves on is it gives life to the characters and it shows us what's happening behind the curtains with characters that the book does not show.

Charles Dance put on the greatest performance of the entire show in every scene he was in for sure. Such a powerful character- it was so difficult to watch seeing him go from a redeeming and likeable character with the scene of him pouring tyrions drink and making him hand of the king to him becoming probably the most evil character in the show with everythinf he said to tyrion in the scene where he was denying him casterly rock

Makes you wonder why all of Tywin's family are so messed, it might be because of his own ambitious, prideful stuck up sense of self-importance.

    Tywin: Lannisters...don't act like fools.
    Jaime: Hm.
Tywin: You wanna say something clever? Go on, say something clever.
Jaime: I was gonna say they do act like dicks, but you've already done that for me.

Before I ever watched an episode of this series, I watched Just about every character compilation video on UA-cam. Finally took the plunge and got caught up to the then current season 4. It was glorious!! 🙂

Charles Dance embodied the formidable Tywin Lannister perfectly. He should have won an Emmy award.

Tywin sets such unbelievably high standards that his children fail to match. Cersei is a bad ruler, and Jaime is a mediocre general who loses half the Lannister forces when he's caught unawares in his own camp. Only Tyrion is Tywin's equal in intelligence and strategy, and yet Tywin refuses to make him his heir.

    • @RaphaelJohn
      @RaphaelJohn 6 років тому +7

You need to see the other side of things. Cersei isn't a good leader, but she's as ruthless as him, and more ruthless than Tyrion & Jaime, making her less predictable, which helps a lot in dealing with enemies.
Jaime's forces were caught unaware yes, but in the books, it says that in their camp location, that is the best way to set up for defense. Either way, he's still an amazing general if you see what he did to the Tyrells in season 7.
Agree on Tyrion's part. If he had seen that Tyrion shared his mind on politics, they're pretty equal.

Not really tho. Tyrion is the closest to tywin but he ain't no tywin. I don't think he would be able to defeat robb stark or house of reyne. As much as i like him only tywin is tywin same as only olena could be olena

    • @tbeller80
      @tbeller80 13 днів тому

@@shin29534 I think the idea is that Tywin could have mentored Tyrion if he hadn't spent his entire life hating him. Tyrion got to where he was all on his own. Imagine if Tywin took the time to actually care about his upbringing where he'd be as a political strategist. Jaime learned his lessons as a General and did a much better job leading the army in both the book and series after he was freed and recovered. He didn't have nearly the political skills that the other three did, but he was roaming the countryside brokering peace agreements and squashing the remaining problems from the war. He'd never be a Hand, but if Tywin could have broken him of his vanity earlier on (and kept him out of his white cloak) he would have still made a good lord.

twiliblade Tommen is a weak king because he has no guidance. I'm sure if the Tyrells hadn't killed Joffrey, Tywin would have.
