Nice to see you Mel!!!
Hello Mel, fantastic to see you back in the studio
Rick B
Good to see you back Mel I have no idea what's been going on for you behind the scenes but can I just say you look really good mate ! I remember watching a stream of yours a year or so ago and you really were looking really under the weather so it's nice to see such a huge positive change for you. Keep on keeping on mate ❤
un petit coucou de France où je suis ravi de te retrouver, toi et tes Tips ! 😃🤗
Great project, Mel.
it's a neat idea for displaying everything, from minis to tanks, cars, gliders. Might borrow it from you once I finish moving stuff around the house.
Nice to see you back.
Cheers, mate.
Welcome back Mel - great idea, looking forward to seeing how it develops
Good to see you back, Mel. You've been missed. We're here for you.
Great to have to back Mel, fantastic idea for a built. Crack on!
Hey, great to see you back again! Thanks for all the inspiration!
Yes! Good to see you back and smiling fella :)
Good to see you back. Looking forward to seeing how this build progresses. I want to do one for my shelf, Endor themed for SW Legion! Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Good to have you back Mel
Mel's back and suddenly the world doesn't seem such a bad place anymore.
That made me smile
Welcome back, Bose! Don't forget to leave some room for Zombicide on the shelf.
oh yeah!
So one idea that might be fun. In the front of the board, have a trench running parallel to the back wall of the shelves. you'd basically just create half of a trench, where you see the walls on the back edge. You could have some of your grunts down in the trenches. Then you could add the vehicles, heroic troops, etc, raised up onto ground level. Include typical trench warfare stuff like razor wire, tank traps, etc. Then have some ruined buildings in the background, with snipers, communications troops, etc in the ruins. That's getting you several altitudes in the box to make it easier for the eye to see everything, without relying on just building a boring hill.
Might save that idea for the infantry shelf mate
Always struggled with how to display minis, great idea!
It's great to see you here again! Great timing too as we're about to redo our board gaming shelves and we have extra spaces dedicated to displaying some of my bigger terrain pieces that don't store well otherwise.
So good to see you back again!!!
Good to see ya back, Mel 😉👋 Great timing, as I was just thinking about having a pop at making a display board/cabinet! 👍
Hiya Mel, Long time-no see! Great to see you back on form! I do hope all is well with both you & Family? Sincere Best Wishes Johnny
On the up mate
Hi glad to see you back 👍👍🤠🤠
Glad you're back.
Good to see you back at it Mel. Try some tea light for your display board :).
Will do
Glad to see you Mel
You look quite healthy, sir. I really thought there was someone guest-hosting from the thumbnail.
Nice to see you back
Great to see you back
Missed you, glad to see you're back!
Glad to have you back Mel. Your minis look like they have greenfield bases, so maybe have them standing in an old ruined imperial city overgrown by a forest. Ruins covered in vines and with as many trees as you can fit...
Actually, these are purely cityfight, so going with just a ruined city approach mate
Mel's back, with his massive tool!
Yep :-D
Love it, Mel! I've got to do a bunch of display boards for my cabinets. I want to have one themed one per level
Glad to see you Mel. Can't wait to see what you comes up with and hopefully get myself inspired as well.
Welcome back Mel!
Welcome back Mel! 😃
Good to see you again Mel. I hope you are doing well, love to the family.
Great to see you back. Also this is a great idea for a build, cause let's face it, adult live often doesn't leave much space for gaming, so having your gaming group together in one room doesn't happen as often as it should, but what to do with all the terrain i built then? Making display pieces instead gives my creative urges a useful outlet.😎
And to show the terrain off, it spends more time in boxes than armies do!
Good to see you back mate
You're awesome, thanks bud
Piacere di rivederti Mel! Sempre pieno di idee! Continua così 👍🏻
good see you put vid out thanks lee
Nice simple tutorial, looking forward to seeing more videos.
Glad "Burma" Bose is back! Don't need or want to know why you were M.I.A. Just happy to see you back. Good move stepping away from Burma Build videos for a bit. Nice change of pace to get you back into swing of things!
Burma Bose .... that's gonna stick lol
The shelf needs a lot of DAKKA! 8) Maybe find someone who can print you nice "battlefield background" for the rear end of the shelf.
Oh, I hadn't thought of that, cheers mate
@@TheTerrainTutor yeah, I helped! XD
Great to see you back looking forward to seeing you soon Tom from Hull
Nice one, Mel. Looking forward to seeing this develop 😁👍
Might be fun seeing the tank rolling up a hill, like it's trying to pop a wheelie. Great seeing you back, btw.
I see you been work hard for month or so. I've miss see you on UA-cam. Maybe I will get on patron so day.
it's good to be back at it mate
Good to see you back!
I can totally understand real life issues.
Just glad that you still at it!
Hello! Welcome back!
Can't wait for the next video
Mel, awesome to see you back and what a cracking idea. There must be thousands of people out there with minis displayed in ikea or similar cabinets. I’m interested how this project develops. Already thinking of ideas for mine. 👍
Yeah, that's what I thought mate
Need lights in the cabinet as well!
We'll figure that once we've got the displays built
It’s sooooooooooooooooo good to see you Mel !
Good to see you sometimes life takes over watch your builds and just did a volcano and river 1st builds ever for a diorama
Nice one mate
Welcome back Mel! Happy to hear your voice.
Glad to see you back Mel,you have been missed
Welcome back!
Welcome Back Mel!
Cheers bud
Thanks for the video.
Something I hope you cover is composition with context to the models. Is it important to make the board pop, or should it be more discreet to help the models pop? And that goes for colors, complexity of features, etc.
Long time no see! welcome back.
Missed you Mel!
Missed being on here mate
Glad you're back, we missed ya!!! As for suggestions: Make the terraces going up both the back and the sides, so you get more usable space for the smaller guys. (The vehicles in the center on the lowest level, and the smaller guys wrapping around the sides and the back.)
Noted!
Welcome back
I love doing shelf displays. Its a real challenge because first and foremost it need to acomodate a large number of models so anything you put on it needs to take up as little space as possible. How 2D can you make a building and still make it look 3D?
Whatever you do dont neglect the opportunity to make balconies/overhangs. think "Z" shapes. A cliffside given depth but effectively taking up zero space because the 2 inches you needed to use to make the cliffside 3D´ish leans over the models below.
And stuff like walls and such doesnt really need to have the same thickness as on normal displays/terrain because being a shelf display theres really only 1 default viewing angle.
Good to see you again Mel. Will be an interesting project to follow. I've been asked to host a terrain building masterclass at our local library this spring, and will of course be bringing your great book - which for some reason the library does not own!!!
That's awesome mate, want me do a video call to the class when you do it? I can do a QnA for you
@@TheTerrainTutor Thank you for the amazing offer. As it will mostly be young kids and in Danish I fear it might be a bit too much for them though. But thank you so much for even offering it!
Welcome back. Great to see videos. Don't make the slop to much of a drop out. Maybe some foxholes so the models can be scene at different angles.
That's a cool idea
A nice video Mel. Will you make the ruined buildings detachable so you can use them in games? Will you make a painted scene background or a photo to go on the back wall of the display?
It's going to be purely display mate, I've got buildings for terrain so I don't want to compromise the build by making it dual purpose
That is a T square with a capital T!
If it had a name, it would be max power
Hell O Mel!
Great to see you back Mel,your looking great,
love this build ,
what about a damaged metal girder bridge or walk way at the highest point at the back for foot soldiers to cross.
Like that!
Hey Mel! How do you plan on dealing with the background space behind the models? More painted backdrops?
Kids secretly glue all pin cases shut to mess with Mel. ;) Always mark your pieces so you know which way is what, kids. So you don't end up like me and ruin the thing and have to do them all over again. *sigh*
Wouldn't put it past them mate
Hello :)
well me you do what like cant think enny thing at this ho why not do the dawn of war terrain stuff that the bider does the bass bildings you know the bilder puts down thats be cooool and can get 3 D printed if like seen some on esty but you mell and do have do that me i need that see as post new
I seriously need to get into 3d printing
do u ever do anything with crackle paints?
i discovered a recipe for diy crackle that seems to work really well.
this could make a good video.
a cheap diy crackle good enough to make a big cracked earth desert diorama floor would likely be of interest to
many wargamers. (agrellan earth is expensive AF)
i'd love to see an experienced modeller take this to the next step and bring it to 'the masses'.
the recipe is simple:
gesso primer saturated with corn starch to a consistency of heavy latex. (basically as much corn starch as possible before it goes solid)
it appears this can be further enhanced with vallejo crackle medium. (meaning the crackle pattern is finer)
preliminary experiments have left me with this strategy for colorizing the mix:
take pigment powder (the ones i'm using are crushed pastel crayons) in the desired colour, darken it several shades with black pigment, then turn that into a liquid by mixing it with vallejo crackle medium, then mix it in.
then apply over a surface of dried PVA. (no need to let it harden).
in case u never herd of it: 'gesso' primer is something painters and sketch artists smear over a fresh but rough
textured canvas or paper to give it a smooth flat surface. in the case of canvas it will shrink and pull the canvas taught over the frame.
Good to have you back Mel
