How to make the most REALISTIC ICE and SNOW EFFECT for miniature bases - STEP BY STEP
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 лют 2025
- Ice is arguably one of the most challenging scenic base and terrain to replicate during our miniature painters’ journey. There are many products out there that claim to be “realistic,” but I always struggled to use them, at least until I discovered my recipe. In this tutorial, I am showing how to make super realistic ice snowed bases in less than 10 minutes.

One video, and it's a hit, well done my guy
That's some GREAT looking ice! I'm totally going to do this for my Space Wolves!
this is the best ice base effect out there
Love what did you here mate, splendid job, very clear explanations and that eye beneth the ice... DOPE ! I just subscribbed.
Make an ice base... make a nice base... great tutorial!!
This was super helpful, thanks so much for sharing.
The second base (lighter one) is fantastic. I’m going to give those colours a try on a frozen fountain I’m working on
Oh How Fun, I plan to try this method soon. Ive been wanting to create a winterscape with resin. Thanks for sharing.
I made my own little army of Space Wolves. I imagined that they are stationed on an icy planet as their HQ long away and in unknown territory. If their planet was ever attackted my wolves would only attack the enemy when they have the sun in their eyes. Very harsh conditions to live on the planet and inhabitans needs special equipment to stay alive. As you guessed... i got a winter theme (surprise). I imagine my marines hidden in the snow and walk out of the glaciers like they are one. I really struggle with getting my bases cool and bro.... these are absolutly astonnishing! I am so in love with this technique!
May i bow and follow your lead on winterthemes!
wow, thank you so much for this, it is so inspiring! Such base gives back some of that drakgrim, and most importantly, it is super easy and quick to do :D
Now THIS is an excellent tutorial
Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!
This was great, amazing results, straight to the point and not wasting time. I really hope you're going to make more of these.
Eyyy I love this technique!
Great work, thank you for the video.
What the hell man, you drop one single video that's absolutely perfect and easy to follow. Then disappear off the face of the earth? Did you yeet your router out the window or what?
hehe you are right. I changed 1 job and 2 places the last year was crazy. I'll be back with more contet! i promise!
@@GoblinsDenMiniature yeah sure 😒
Great video! My son and I are looking forward to more!
you can mix the uv resin with paint directly as well. Its good for getting slightly 3d streaks of color. just apply the uv resin and add the smallest drop of paint and slightly/lightly mix it with a toothpick. You can use blue to simulate a crack in the deeper part of the ice or you can actually use a bit of white to simulate trapped air bubbles.
I'm making a frozen mountain shelf with my ice dragon atop of it. I have ice sickles, small Ivey waterfall with cave behind it. I have snow effects, some wire grass, few scattered areas of small rocks and in some of rock edges I have puddles of frozen water but I'm trying to get a realistic ice effect and maybe use some blue lighting either from base or from dragon pointed down upon a few tents & warriors... Always how it goes though I have 4 unfinished projects.. lol😅
@@thunderballz74 For frozen puddles my go to is vallejo water texture -> wait for it to fully dry -> top off with a layer of green stuff world liquid frost.
Doing a snow/winter themed GSC and this is perfect. I don't like painting so something this quick that doesn't require accuracy will be amazing for me
This is my favourite ice base!
Brilliant, worked really well
Wow this is gorgeous!! What a great idea to incorporate resin.
Really enjoyed this video. Great presentation and cracking idea for bases.

Danke dir!
Very interesting tutorial, I can imagine using this method to create different affects as well. Many thanks!
Cool bases, good production value, and a very understandable tutorial. Hope you make more videos bud!

Video helped me out a lot!
Getting really amazing bases with this technique. Thanks a lot :-D
thanks to you :) on which project will you use it?
@@GoblinsDenMiniature I tested it out on some smaller Chaos Space Marines and it loons great 🤗
Final step is to make a icy base for Be'lakor 🤭
Great first video! Nice to see someone using Army Painter paints for a change :)
Thank you so much 😊❤️
Great video, I m gonna do the same for my Norse Blood Bowl team.
Question. How you attach the mini on the resin after? Super glue? Or pin it with glue(is drilling safe?)?
Love the video! Would pinning a model to a base like this show the pinning rod through the ice or is the resin not deep enough to show that?
Fantastic video, will definitely give that a try. I would love to see more of your space wolves 😁
Very good tutorial ! cant wait to see more videos from your channel keep up the great work!
Thanks 😊 I shall get back soon posting more content ❤️❤️
Lookin lovely! I wanted to do a bigger frozen base but only freeze parts of it, any tips on screen off parts I dont want the UV resin to go to on the mini?
As it happens I did check out this UV resin an used it on the bases of my Bear rider units for ASOIF.
It is great stuff. Gets good results really easily.
thanks! wow I would love to see bear riders over it!!
Thanks for sharing I am definitely going to give this a try.
thanks for watching ❤ Let me know how it goes 😊
Talented!
thank you 😊❤
Fantastic job and jes please to ice rocks vid 🙏
UV raisins are delicious
Great man!!!! top video!!!!!
It made for a great ice base. Thanks for your help!
I saw a cool kraken? decoration around the 7:50 mark, I'd love to try that!
If you don't mind, could you tell me how to do it???
And now I want to re-start a brand new Space Wolf intercession Kill Team. I can also see a lot of uses for this with my Daemon Prince on his lava base!
Génial 👍😎
merci :)
Well done!
Wow inspiring, just getting into paitntng warhammer 40k figures and bases. 👏👏👏
Sand paper and clear resin. I've been using clear gel glue and paint. Takes a lot longer to get similar results.
I've finally got a use for the rest of my clear 3d printing resin.
I did too before finding out how fast uv resin can be! :D thanks for watching :)
Great job mate!
Absolutely amazing work, this was the final tick for me to paint up Space Wolves. Once these bases are complete is there any issue with glueing the model to it via Gorilla glue or such brands?
Amazing work man! I'll definitely use this in a future project. I've subbed!
How difficult is it to glue a model on top of the ice?
Fantastic looking bases!
hi! I used Cyanoacrylate without problem, however, a cool trick is tu use uv resin on the rim of the miniature's feet, in this way it will look more integrated with the base :)
@@GoblinsDenMiniature Thank you! I ordered some because of this video. I'd like to do the ice effects on some of the bases for my Grave Guard in my Legion of Blood
Love this tutorial! Fantastic looking ice techniques for your bases and terrain! 🤘
