On drums here is Jason Bonham, son of original Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. Jason is playing John's drum kit and is wearing John's hat. Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones didn't know Jason was even going to be there, let alone play.
Ann was 62 and Nancy 58 when they performed this tribute. Heart has been performing since the early 70’s…and they’re still writing and performing new music.
Robert Plant's expressions: Priceless... One of the most impressive covers of all time, and spot on performance by the Wilson sisters. Jason's drumming is on par and his Dad (the late great John Bonham) would have loved this as well. Excellent choice.
@Jennifer Glatzhofer, darlin you've just witnessed "ROCK LEGENDS PERFORM IN FRONT OF ROCK GOD'S" And performing one of their greatest songs of all time 😊
I've seen this performance a while back and wow, I'm so blown away at how Heart and the whole band covered this song. It's such a remarkable performance!
These ladies have stated, many times, that Led Zeppelin was always a big influence on them. In fact I saw them many, many years ago live in a little arena in Asbury Park, New Jersey. In fact it was the day Elvis died, August 16th, 1977 and the last song of the encore was Zeppelin's "Rock n Roll" dedicated to the King.
I imagine only slightly less nerve-wracking than being Ann Wilson and singing this iconic song in front of its original vocalist Robert Plant, is to be Shane Fontayne and play that iconic rock guitar solo in the middle, in front of its writer and original guitarist, guitar virtuoso Jimmy Page. No pressure!
Ann and Nancy were nervous before going out but settled down before Ann started singing. They fell apart after they left the stage. It's in their book. Ann is 71 now and still doing solo tours and Nancy turns 67 in March. Ann was 62 and Nancy 58
You're all over the place Jenn ! Can't believe you reacted to one of my favourite artists growing up ! Heart with the Wilson sisters were a phenomenal rock band in the 70's and 80's ! Hard driving, powerful voice of Ann and her sister's guitar pounding out the music were as good as it gets ! I saw them on numerous occasions and they put on a fabulous concert ! This is the only band that Jimmy Page would allow to do this cover of this iconic song ! Although it was hard to hear Ann's voice in this I'm amazed she could still sing quite well at 62 years of age ! The performance was spectacular in its build up with great musicians ,huge wonderful choir and of course Ann and Nancy leading the way ! I thought it was the best performance of this song and ranks right behind the original ! Thank you for reacting to this and trying to analyse Ann 's voice throughout the song ! I can imagine it would be hard to do ! Much appreciated Jenn as always ! Loved it ! 🤗👍🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️❤️❤️
The version with the CBS logo in the bottom left corner is the shortened version. The one that says (FULL VERSION) with no CBS logo on it shows Ann (singer) & Nancy Wilson (guitarist) much more. Nice reaction!
Was great seeing John Bonham's son Jason playing the drums. I enjoyed this reaction Jen. A bit more minimal than usual but no surprise considering the focus in the video was more on the honorees. An iconic song played for the icons who made it so. Great video Jen, thanks! Looking forward to your next reaction! And to your next cover 😃
Ann is now 71 and still doing solo tours and Nancy had her 1st solo album last year. Heart did a tour the summer of 2019. I have their book and I subscribe to them Facebook and UA-cam. Ann has lost most of her higher register but she still slays the songs. They are both still Beautiful. They were on tour in Florida so they had to fly here and back to finish the tour. I Love the Sisters
This is the Edited or shortened version for television..There is an unedited or full version up here on UA-cam...There is a few more verses and a longer solo..Also the camera.is on Ann singing a little more...
Nice review. You listened to the edited TV version that left out several verses and also was audio compressed for TV. There's a full version on Utube that has Ann much more forward in the mix with the full song in tact. You might enjoy hearing that one.
@@JenniferGlatzhofer I was looking to see if somebody wrote this - You did a great job, but I was disappointed when it cut off some things you will very much appreciate. Also, in the long version, if you can see the intro by Jack Black and then after this song, all the oher performers come out - It's just a cool moment.
I have watched this video so many times and just love the choir and the orchestra, but my favorite part is towards the end when she just whales and kind of goes off-key. it is just so pure and raw I love it!!
This is considered by many that this is the definitive cover of this song including the surviving members Led Zeppelin imagine the nerves and anxious feelings of everyone performing in front of Led Zeppelin.
Ann and Nancy have been doing Zeppelin as part of their repertoire since the early days of Heart so this was ground they have trod upon before....but NOT with ZEP & the President in the house. They said they were both pretty nervous before going onstage....Ya think?!?! LOL
It's too bad you didn't react to the full, unedited version of this which has more footage of Ann and maybe it's just me but I think you can hear her better as well. But regardless, killer performance and thank you for reacting to it.
This is a wonderful rendition. It made me go a watch the original band's live version from Madison Square Garden from the 70's. Of course that was impossibly good as well. Thanks for showcasing this!
So many cool things about this video make it pretty emotional. Ann Wilson is one of the best ever. Love your reaction and analysis..love the "nerding out", subbed.
I’m so happy you reacted to this performance. This is one of the greatest rock bands HEART playing tribute to arguably the greatest metal band of all time LED ZEPPELIN with what is known as the anthem of metal songs STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN. And yes Ann Wilson is one of the best female singer in the history of rock.
I love your analysis. But I don't know nothing about what you are saying, but still, you captivate me every time. Your passion for music, especially the vocals, radiates so strongly that even someone like me, who will never be a singer, can’t resist being captivated by what you have to share. Thank you. I hope someday to have passion again in my life.
Just in case you don't know, and because you didn't mention it, but the 3 older gentlemen they kept showing throughout are the members of Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones. Representing drummer John Bonham, who passed away in 1980, was his son Jason Bonham who was the drummer in this song. They were being honored for their achievements in music.
The nerves......Rock Royalty...playing perhaps the most iconic rock song of pure Rock Gods.....in FRONT of said Rock Gods....and absolutely blowing the stage up?!? Daaaayyyyuuummmm I know, and agree that Ann has a one of a generational voice. But I think too few people give props to Nancy for covering all of the high harmonies she does for her sister. She has a serious voice as well and its too bad more folks dont talk about it. Both in their late 60's here and man....that voice is STILL pure and resonant as all hell. And that poor guy doing his best to pay tribute to a Paige solo...man,,,big kahunas for sure. Best way to know if it's good is to see Yo Yo Ma rocking out to it, I laugh every time.
I saw an interview with Nancy. She said that when she and Ann saw the Beatles. They did NOT want to marry the Beatles. They were going to be the Beatles... I do not think they are that BIG. But they are darn good - Rock Hall of Fame good... A fun band who have loads of good music.... And the remaining members of Zep are listening and watching. NO pressure there!!! This is one of the greatest ROCK and ROLL songs ever, if not the BEST!! Jen I enjoy your channel and THANK YOU.....
Amazing performance! Also astounding to see how many people were needed to perform this song on a level comparable to the four members of Led Zeppelin.
Great review. Ann Wilson is one of the rock greats! There is a differently edited version of this which does keep the camera on Ann for quite a bit longer. I think you’d like it better.
Ann Wilson has one of the greatest voices in Rock of all times. I suggest you to listen to Heart's album "Bebe Le Strange". Her voice there is mind-blowing. Nice reaction by the way! ;) Too bad this is the cut version. In the full version you have some more vocals of her and see her more at the final section.
So this version was the edited-for-tv version. There is a full version out there that focuses more on Ann and adds back the couple of verses that were cut out of this short version.
Awesome, just awesome. I remember the song when it came out. Listened to it on the radio on the way to go ski a lot. Even bought the album. And of course loved Heart & the Wilson sisters & their arrangement of it. You know that Ann is on the list that, were she is considered one of the greatest singers of all time. I use to have a crush on her back in the 70's. You should react to Heart singing "Magic Man" or "Crazy on you" back in '76 or '77. Hey Jennifer, Imagine what would happen if Angie got a hold of this song & put her Angel dust on it & did to it what she did to "BR" by Queen. That would be awesome. We can only dream.
Congratulations. You've now heard probably the best live cover ever. Of anything. But even more notably, of a song almost universally derided for inadequate, weak covers. Every amateur musician thought they could cover this, and bad Stairway covers actually became a well known cliche. So imagine the big swinging ones needed to cover it in FRONT of Zep themselves... and absolutely kill.
I think Anne Wilson and Stevie Nicks taught me how to sing, my parents put me in church choir when I was around 6, I participated in choir all my life thru school and church, I visited my friends community college choir as a guest and was invited to join for performances, the odd thing is, not one choir teacher or conductor taught me anything, they'd hand me the sheet music, that was that, I never received criticism or praise or advice, literally ever. My point is, I had memorized the vocals on every Fleetwood Mac song I could find in my parents records by the time I was 7. Carole King, Joan Biaz , Janis Joplin, so they put me in choir. A new friend in high school introduced me to Heart. I heard them on the radio growing up, but didn't realize who they were, She had all of their albums, on vinyl still, cassettes were still the most popular at the time, I was so mesmerized by them, they were the reason music meant everything to me, and this video specifically reminds me of why, Zeppelin is one of those bands who's use of strings pushed me into orchestra, violin, viola, cello, and classical music overall. Sorry to babble, this video makes me happy 💜
Robert Plant later said he was tearing up because he was thinking about what a waste is was, that his best friend and Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, wasn't there to see this performance, with his son drumming while wearing Bonham's derby hat. And also the tribute to him, with the chorus all wearing the same hat.
When you see Jimmy Page nodding in approval, John Paul Jones smiling throughout and Robert Plant moved to tears, I think you've done the song justice. What an amazing spectacle of a performance.
Robert Plant was ALWAYS critical of people covering Stairway, feeling no one ever really hit it right and kind of putting out a bit of hate for the idea. Heart had his blessing to cover their songs on stage, but here you really catch Plant understanding just how powerful Stairway is when performed to epic scale by incredible musicians. This really was impressive in scale, especially with Jason Bonham on his father's drum set that had played that very song on stage back in the day. This really is the final word in covers for their music.
Did you know the drummer, Jason Bonham, was not only Zepp's late drummer John Bonham's son, but also Robert Plant's Godson -- and they did not know he was going to be part of this. & PS, I think Ann Wilson was 60 years old when she did this - DAMN!!!!!!
Jennifer, You realize Ann Wilson is considered to be the best female rock vocalist ever??? Plus she was in her sixties when this was done??? Only other two who come close are Pat Benetar and Linda ronstadt. Look into it.😉👍
No pressure here, we want you to sing one of the most famous rock songs of all time, in front of a whos who of a crowd, plus three of the guys that originally performed it, oh yeah and your drummer is the son of the original drummer. Ann comes out and just slays this at 62 years old when she sang it. No substitute for talent.
Did you know, that those three old men , to whom camera so often focust, were rest of that band wich greated this song, Minus the drummer Jon Bonham, whos son Jason Bonham was playing drums, his fathers set of them, in this honour. Think how much of pressure it had to perform it, for all of them.
Did you know Juke Box? Always heard this song in Jukebox in our restaurant. I was a little boy that time, maybe , early 70's, don't make any math Jen ha ha.. This is the most iconic rock song of all time by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, & Led Zeppelin 💛✌️💛🙂
I've said it before. They asked Robert Plant what his favorite rock song of all time. His answer was anything Ann Wilson is singing. No one was better in her lane so to speak. Some females were better vocalists overall. But in her lane Ann was one of the best ever.
IMO Ann Wilson has the greatest voice in Rock/Pop music. The only woman I found to come close is the highly underrated Anastacia (yes, correct spelling). In fact, Ann and Ana performed one of Heart's biggest hits "Barracuda" TOGETHER for the 2006 television special FROSTED PINK and Ana held her own with the legendary Ann. Ann's sister and guitar player, Nancy, also has an amazing voice.
In an interview with Eddie Trunk, Nancy Wilson confirmed that Led Zeppelin was quite satisfied with the result. According to the musician, Plant told her that he hated the song before this performance because everybody murdered it while Jimmy Page said the performance was great. Speaking about that performance, Nancy Wilson told Eddie Trunk in the interview that: “It went off really great. Afterward, the Zeppelin guys each came back individually. Jones was like, ‘Wow, you did a great job’ and Robert Plant goes, ‘Whoah, I learned to just hate that song because everybody murders it - but you did it justice. Way to go!’ And Jimmy Page goes ‘You played that great; just lovely.‘” Apart from being an instant success, Heart’s ‘Stairway To Heaven’ also had another importance. Following Led Zeppelin’s disbandment, Page would not allow any other musician to sing the song as he believed that they couldn’t do the song justice. Therefore, he would let the song be played as an instrumental track. However, Page watched Heart’s performance with an approving expression and enjoyed it until the end.
Jason is the son of the original drummer. He pretended to busy and not able to perform and surprised them at the last minute. He is Robert Plant's godson. Robert Plant is still touring in summer 2024 with Alison Krauss.
If you're thinking of another Heart reaction, you might try one of the tracks from the 2016 concert at the Royal Albert Hall (search for "heart royal albert hall"). My favourite is Alone - ua-cam.com/video/rtopccRfyUU/v-deo.html - but there are no bad tracks.
I have heard commenters say there was an increase in tempo in this song. There was never an increase in tempo! It remained the same from start to finish. Just count 1234 throughou and you will realize i am right.
So this video was meant to be scheduled for 4pm today… oops!! But it’s up early, happy Monday!! 😁

Did you know the drummer, Jason Bonham, was not only Zepp's late drummer John Bonham's son, but also Robert Plant's Godson -- and they did not know he was going to be part of this. & PS, I think Ann Wilson was 60 years old when she did this - DAMN!!!!!!
Just an FYI, Jennifer, another reactor did this last week and it was struck within 2 days of release, it was disputed successfully
That's just the way and Wilson is
Jennifer, You realize Ann Wilson is considered to be the best female rock vocalist ever??? Plus she was in her sixties when this was done??? Only other two who come close are Pat Benetar and Linda ronstadt. Look into it.😉👍
Love it!
Esta es la edición editada que no está completa, tienes que ver la versión Full de esta misma canción, saludos amiga
You got the edited version missing one verse and part of the guitar solo. Find the full version which focuses more on Ann
Oh nice!
Ann Wison is a female rock singer standard!!
I've said it before. They asked Robert Plant what his favorite rock song of all time. His answer was anything Ann Wilson is singing. No one was better in her lane so to speak. Some females were better vocalists overall. But in her lane Ann was one of the best ever.
If you want to watch Hart you really need to do barracuda!
You remind me so much of a young Jenny Agutter.
Next up: Barracuda by Heart.
The choir is wearing bohamderby hats in tribute
Speaking about that performance, Nancy Wilson told Eddie Trunk in the interview that:
“It went off really great. Afterward, the Zeppelin guys each came back individually. Jones was like, ‘Wow, you did a great job’ and Robert Plant goes, ‘Whoah, I learned to just hate that song because everybody murders it - but you did it justice. Way to go!’ And Jimmy Page goes ‘You played that great; just lovely.‘”
Apart from being an instant success, Heart’s ‘Stairway To Heaven’ also had another importance. Following Led Zeppelin’s disbandment, Page would not allow any other musician to sing the song as he believed that they couldn’t do the song justice. Therefore, he would let the song be played as an instrumental track. However, Page watched Heart’s performance with an approving expression and enjoyed it until the end.
You will love the song Barcelona
Try their whole tribute from this
This version is heavily edited. For the full song look for the clip that begins with the building at night.
Fyi... Heart is going on tour, right now.... 😊
Yeah Jason Bonham!
I would love to watch you talk music & singing off camera.
If you want, you can compare it with the original: Stairway to Heaven live MSG 1973.
7:05 SHELDON COOPER on guitar
I have heard commenters say there was an increase in tempo in this song. There was never an increase in tempo! It remained the same from start to finish. Just count 1234 throughou and you will realize i am right.
