I work in a retirement community and most of them prefer degradation and death to a dietary shift. Poor souls have been saturated for seven decades with bad advice. That is a dam of prejudice not likely to burst. What do you think of this approach, "what do you have to lose by trying something different for six months?"
Thank you and God bless you, dear doctors. It takes a lot of courage to go against the long held established view of certain big industries! Much respect. May your numbers increase in the world, so we can heal ourselves and our planet.
Dr Perlmutter is such a beautiful human being, so inspiring, way more than a brilliant neurologist seems like such a simply wise and wonderful human being. Feel so lucky to be able to access these podcasts :)
Going back to 1957, I was a med. Student going to Bristol, England for dissection which is awful and revolting to me. One evening I went to a cinema for a bit of inspiration. There the add for a book became my day i never forget The name of the book: Eat fat and grow slim. It became my central base, whereas the other spectaters were falling down their chairs laughing It was not my first critical encounter versus medicine, because my father was a Critical MD. Actually it has occupied my whole life
You're probably not enough os a sociopath. The fact you disliked dissection means you probably have high empathy something they make sure nó medical student has because if you're not sociopathic enough you won't pass your exams and not only that if you don't work neurologically damaging hours you won't get through your internship. So it guarantees doctors are the most neurological impaired sociopaths around.
Excellent video. I'm so happy that Dr P reflected on the importance of compassion, behavior, etc. near the end; a very important part of our life journey here on Earth. Two wonderful men that have so much to offer society. With much gratitude, blessings.
Another outstanding interview. The content shared has spurred action professionally and in my household. Information like this has evolved the information I share (I am a pharmacist) I am currently reading Grain Brain. I am the family chef so we have significantly reduced starchy carbs and 'sweet fat'. We purposely avoid inflammatory food stuffs in an effort to proactively prevent any actions that contribute to our mental decline and poor health. It is an essential part of our retirement plan, to be healthy and live vibrantly. We are living in exciting times.
Wonderful to hear this! Reducing starchy carbs and "sweet fat" is a great step towards maintaining a healthy diet, and avoiding inflammatory foods can also help to proactively prevent health issues. It's great to hear that you're making this a priority as part of your retirement plan.
Powerful discussion that is on repeat for me. Thank you so much. I had a dilemma last year of keto Vs whole food plant based diet. The latter won. However some challenges have come up regards including healthy oils more for mental health than anything. And the vegan police have been relentless. So it's refreshing to hear this discussion and really take in these valuable points. Thank you
Started time restricted eating 5 month ago, lost 15kg and feel 20 years younger. As an engineer I really appreciate the new logical approach to lessen problems with health. After all our body is a biological mechanism. functioning functioning
Totally agree with others comments. The information you give us all is life saving. Luckily more and more people in medical world are recognizing that we can work on prevention instead of pills and more pills. Food and other lifestyle changes can ensure optimum health. Thank you both so much!!
Absolutely! Prevention is key when it comes to maintaining good health, and lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet and regular exercise can go a long way in achieving this. It's encouraging to see that more people in the medical world are recognizing the value of these approaches, and hopefully we will continue to see a shift towards a more holistic approach to healthcare.
I really like your perspective on the “ sense of Gratitude “! It might be even more important than everything else! It is so true that we take food for granted. Fasting really helps a lot in so many ways. Thank you!
31:50 My parents both have dementia. After giving them MCT C8 oil for one week, I started noticing differences. It works. I recommend powder MCT because it is easier to mix into the soup and coffee/drinks.

Embeded with signposts to other key luminaries including Dr Dale Bredersen and Valter Longo Phd. Wish I had seen this 2 years ago still invaluable now. Thank You
Too slow though...I've lost confidence in medical doctors who are still recommending old SAD. Sadly still need them to get a "prescription" for tests we want, they don't, but we're can't request ourselves.
I am in the United Kingdom and I had an MRI SCAN through my neurologist. He was rude with my results and wouldn't see me after. He sent one letter to my GP saying that there was nothing wrong with me and to tell me that everything is alright. Two days later I received a letter stating that I have white matter around the brain leading to Small Vessels Disease and when I saw my gp he said if he had an MRI scan then he would expect to see white matter at his age. He was 79 years old and I was only 52 years old I am now 57 years old. This really worried my family and myself, but was told to go onto the internet for information. I have times when my whole mind takes me out of the room and when I come back round I am speaking about something completely different to what I was talking about before my mind went, I have also lost my way not recognizing an area where I once lived and took myself to a building where my mind came back to normal, I have also woken up in the morning a couple of times not knowing where I was not even recognizing my own bedroom and at times I have been naughty throwing things then click with myself and thinking that my son is my brother and Uncle and going to hit him and call him names but I managed to stop myself which I am grateful for because I don't want to treat him or anyone else like that. I have regular memory loss my General Knowledge, faces, and names I've known for years. I am listening to your video now and you mention one side of my body (left) goes cold and numb all of the time, how do I get it sorted out because my neurologist is vile to me. My balance is terrible and energy, I sleep a lot throughout the day. My Nan had many strokes, my mother died of alzheimer's at 57 years. I have also been diagnosed with other illnesses: Motor problems throwing my head around. Diabetes 2 Athsma Functional Neurological Disorder Nerve disorder Tremors Fat in my blood Enlarged Liver Nodules x2 on each ardinal gland on the top of each kidney, this has been ignored and was each measured at 2cm each 2 years ago. Hip Dysplasia in both hips from birth. Osteoarthritis on both hips. Back Pain Acute Crystal Fluid on both knees Rheumatoid Arthritis in both knees. I am in a wheelchair I have tried Physiotherapy which has not helped at all for the functional neurological disorder only. I don't get any support apart from I have carers come in for three hours a week to help me to shower and shop occasionally and clean my home. I am taking lots of medication including MST 12 HOURLY (MORPHINE). Which doesn't help with functional neurological disorder and nerve problems. I also get locking of my fingers and hands which the gp said it is arthritis but the internet says it is something else. I wonder if you would email me please? with some advice. Warmest Wishes ❤❤

In terms of Grains I Have an experiment for you. French bread, as some know is made differently than most American breaks. It is thrice risen over a 24 hour period. That's where it gets that great taste. I have actually let it sit for 3 days to enhance that flavor. and yes it works. the Flavor is Sour Dough on steroids. The Question is what does it do chemically to the dough. I eat very little regular bread. Because it Bothers my stomach when I eat a lot. It's like it isn't something enough. When I do the the thrice risen method, whether for 24 hours or 3 days it feels like a complete meal. Now Most Drs would call me nuts but you folks are smart enough to see what I'm getting at.
@@andyeasy3320 Still, wheat is wheat, and it is not that great a human food. Especially modern varieties. I try to severely limit my consumption of it.
I had food poison which caused acute diarrhea and vomit that lasted 2 days. On the third day I woke up with a terrible depression that had no explanation, lasted two years. I always thought the problem with my digestive system had triggered it.
Thank you. I remember Awakening From Alzheimer's and this diet is a blessing. The unhealthy foods have been programmed into us to eat and then teach our children to eat that way as well. When we change the way we eat, it makes a huge difference in my family's lives. Our guts are so important! Thank you both! Thank you Dr. Hyman and Dr. Perlmutter. 🙏💚
Thankful to see the systems approach to medicine and the demise of allopathic medicine. Nutrition has always been medicine. Glad we are returning to this knowledge.
I keep reading comments on Mark interrupting too often; I used to feel the same way and then I understood that this format is not a lecture by an individual solely lecturing to an audience at a podium; it is instead, an informal discussion between two people discussing the best ways to get healthy and we are just listening in. People in discussion with each other, do interrupt with questions, comments and need for clarification, as well as a personal story or even a joke. I think this is a great format, because what one person will speak on and omit, perhaps the other will pick up on it and clarify. So, since I am just listening in, I am still gleaning from their conversation even though I am not a part of it. My two cents.
I just recently have found you. I am convinced that I would benefit from your suggestions. I will start by applying the Principles that you are communicating. I am eighty two. I would like to see a functional doctor. Is there someone in Manhattan New York?
He keeps interrupting the neurologist when he was about to explain how to prevent Alzheimers. I want to listen to him continue on that tract...so frustrating!
Mark has a problem relating to self obsession that he seems to have no interest in solving. Someone else needs to have an intelligent conversation with Mark regarding Mark's brain. Go figure.
Glad you wrote this comment - I thought it was just me! Almost spoiled the interview for me. I've watched him interview other guests and it was the same.
Dr. Mark is wonderful and he is sharing his knowledge at no cost to us. I’m sure he appreciates constructive criticism, but no need to be rude about it. Be kind!!

If your not including melons start melons hydrate the body tons better then H2O having freshly juiced cantaloupe in the evening is great to help relax and fall asleep.
Holy cow! You just described me!! 👍
I have followed Dr. Perlmutter's thinking for 40yrs since living in his town where friends lived across the street from him. Always interested in exercise and diet info which changes over the years. He's been in the fore front of mind-body thinking. I'm grateful for all his insight into functioning, healthy body.
That is a great honor.
Im glad you followed him rather than stalked him.
🎉
An excellent discussion... thankyou both. You are helping to change the future for elders particularly. Many BLESSINGS❤❤
David Perlmutter is an exceptional human being and is way ahead of his time.

Thanks so much. My father has been diagnosed with early signs of dementia. He eats all the time, eats sugary and savoury snacks.
This information from your dialogue is so informative and useful. Thanks and regards. Wish iit were more focussed and to the point conversation!

Thank you for speaking the truth and empowering people bringing them knowledge. Sending you lots of love and support. Please, keep going.
I would not be alive today if not for radically changing my diet. Loved this discussion
Dr Perlmutter is such a beautiful human being, so inspiring, way more than a brilliant neurologist seems like such a simply wise and wonderful human being. Feel so lucky to be able to access these podcasts :)
This podcast it’s just amazing. The interaction between doctors are extremely informative. Thank you both so much 🙏
Can dementia be reversed also?
Did you get a reply Judy?

Sharing these with my family and friends.
Most people need to hear this.
Going back to 1957, I was a med. Student going to Bristol, England for dissection which is awful and revolting to me.
One evening I went to a cinema for a bit of inspiration.
There the add for a book became my day i never forget
The name of the book:
Eat fat and grow slim.
It became my central base, whereas the other spectaters were falling down their chairs laughing
It was not my first critical encounter versus medicine, because my father was a Critical MD. Actually it has occupied my whole life
life is a gas.
When they went after butter, eggs and nuts, I thought they were nuts.

Once again, Dr. Perlmutter explains perfectly and with such clarity!
Hymen interrupts too much
Wish Hyman would stop interrupting so much
hyper hyman
Great video, even 4 years later! Wow! Thank you both. You are both ahead of your time.
❤❤❤

Excellent information/ discussion. The public need more of this. Blessings.
Truly awesome 2 giants focused on a key issue and sharing valuable insight in a transparent way. A banquet of diet and lifestyle knowlege accessible to all. Embeded with signposts to other key luminaries including Dr Dale Bredersen and Valter Longo Phd.
Wish I had seen this 2 years ago still invaluable now.
Thank You
Enlightening! Keep up doing what you are doing. Wonderful information and a great team leading the way so needed. Thank you !
Great discussion...just wish it delved more into specifics of what and how much to put on your fork.
Maybe the books they write would have that type of information in more detail... just a thought.
Brave doctors we are grateful eternally.Helps as tremendous,Thank You ❤️
It’s good to see medical doctors finally coming around.
Too slow though...I've lost confidence in medical doctors who are still recommending old SAD. Sadly still need them to get a "prescription" for tests we want, they don't, but we're can't request ourselves.
@@x.y.7385 I agree you can order your own off the internet yes they don’t want to do anything they are not a part of sad!
Two of my favorites! I feel star struck watching and listening to this. So excited for the new book too!
Thank you both for sharing your knowledge with us!🥰❤️
I am in the United Kingdom and I had an MRI SCAN through my neurologist.
I have also been diagnosed with other illnesses:
Motor problems throwing my head around.
Diabetes 2
Athsma
Functional Neurological Disorder
Nerve disorder
Tremors
Fat in my blood
Enlarged Liver
Nodules x2 on each ardinal gland on the top of each kidney, this has been ignored and was each measured at 2cm each 2 years ago.
Hip Dysplasia in both hips from birth.
Osteoarthritis on both hips.
Back Pain
Acute Crystal Fluid on both knees
Rheumatoid Arthritis in both knees.
Warmest Wishes
❤❤
Go off ALL wheat 4 months.... see if feel better???

Thank you Dr Hyman for another morning of great intellectuals interviews. You are a "hope before sunrise" fan from Palau.
I eat "sweet potatoes" and have lost a ton of weight without trying!! I feel great and I'm 82.5 yrs old!! PRAISE GOD!!
I will be 74 y/o like the first comment I eat only 2 x per day I am diabetic but very controlled I do intermittent fasting but still work and feel blessed to be this functional in life.
Thank you for your persistence in persuing and spreading the truth so that I can learn to be my own doctor and to think and act for myself.
Great information! What would we do without guys like you!!!
Thanks to both of you.

I have followed you both for years and will continue to do so. Powerful.
Great conversation thank u both for this interview.God bless.
This is soooo informative, I've learnt a lot.
Thank you both for this great interview. Also I want to thank Dr. Hyman for stopping all his guests when they use terms unfamiliar to us listeners and breaking down the more complicated technical ideas to make them digestible. It helps tremendously!
❤
Mark Hyman needs to let Perlmutter talk more and he should listen more
We won't read your comment, he is too busy talking...
This time given to Dr. Permutter and D. Hyman is GOD send. The information is amazing and just what is really what we should focus on . Thank God for this quality streaming by YO Tube.I will try to get a copy of those books authored by this doctor.
Totally agree with you wondering the same thing can you doctors answer this question please.

I had food poison which caused acute diarrhea and vomit that lasted 2 days. On the third day I woke up with a terrible depression that had no explanation, lasted two years. I always thought the problem with my digestive system had triggered it.
These two guys are the BEST
Some very objective thinking from these chaps. ThankYou.
Perlmutter. 🙏💚
Absolutely riveting. Awesome, thank you!

Just found this. It's truly amazing!!!
BRILLIANT DISCUSSION ... Thanks guys ... Tired of 2 PhD trying to talk to impress each other ... THIS IS BRILLIANT ... Fire Side Chat ... 5 Star
Great conversation!
Exactly. It’s not a lecture. Love the back and forth❤️
Great observation! Thank you 🙏
Agree 100%

Wow what a fabulous video, thank you so much for all this information, so helpful.
Great interview. Dr Hyman you can interrupt as much as you want! Love your program.
It's a conversation with lots of give and take. Love it
He keeps interrupting the neurologist when he was about to explain how to prevent Alzheimers. I want to listen to him continue on that tract...so frustrating!
Yes I agree. Totally frustrating so that I almost turned this whole interview off...
Be kind!!
He does a great job, stop whining
Thanks for the wonderful information !
Come on guys, tell us what foods to eat and not what three-syllable chemicals they're composed of.
And thank you for your dedication and hard work in this discipline.
