    He is absolutely right about exercise and memory. At 52 and being sedentary for about 20 years with a terribly diet, I began exercising every single day and began eating only a healthy diet. Painfully and slowly I worked up to running 7 days a week and my memory recall has steadily improved. I have not skipped a day of exercise in a year, next goal is 1000 days without missing a day of running.

    Real wisdom. Giving up sugar and refined carbohydrates about 15 years ago was the best thing I ever did for myself. People don’t want to believe it’s true because you pretty much have to buy whole ingredients and cook for yourself to truly get away from it. And stop eating out all the time. Processed food is garbage. People need to really start learning how to read a food label and they will see. Fast food restaurants and grocery stores are deadly. It all adds up in a day and they’re slipping little amounts into everything.

      @bensk8in467 Рік тому +9

      @@daisy1441 I did it progressively but I did it wrong in hindsight and would have done it differently knowing what I know now. I would get “sugar free” things to eat to satisfy urges but later learned that’s another hustle all in itself. Most things labeled that aren’t your friend either and are just labeled to look like they are. Full of sucralose, sugar alcohols, etc. which you can find studies on these that link them to killing healthy gut/intestinal flora and causing digestive and other eating disorders. Over time I just finally gave up my sweet tooth because I don’t really have the cravings anymore but if I was going to do it again I would have gotten creative in the kitchen with sweeteners like stevia extract or monk fruit, and almond flour if I was baking. I haven’t read negative health information about these sweeteners.

      This is crazy! I worked in dementia care settings for 25 years of my life. I’m shocked at how true this is in regards to dementia and exercise. Once a patient gets placed in care after disease decline is no longer manageable at home. I see the rapid I mean RAPID decline in cognitive function that may be due to placement. Once your in that jail you no longer have adequate access to exercise in placement. I have seen stroke patients develop secondary dementia and now have a greater understanding of why the risk of developing probably doubles after stoke and other conditions that leave patients in a sedentary state whom at prior would not have any other biological or hereditary risk for this disease. Also depression. We know the factors between exercise and depression. 90 % of all my new residents in care within 6 months of placement end up on anti depressants. Oh I could go on. I’ve been fascinated with the topic of dementia for nearly 30 years. I’m Canadian west coast. I could carry on about how TOXIC the diets are in long term care as well. Lots of horror stories to share.

Also you cannot sustain body without supplements of vitamins, fish, eggs, and meat. Your d@m brain is literally made up of cholesterol, so yeah we need it and your focus on cholesterol is wrong. It is the lack of vitamin C&D that regulate the body ability to absorb calcium properly, which is why without vitamins you will calcify your arteries with plaque and also our bodies are very lacking in magnesium wich balance the other minerals and the human body cannot store, so it needs magnesium all the time. There are few vegetarian foods that are actually having nutrients, which is spinach.

      I too quit sugar 3 days ago, it was like an epiphany. I've been wanting to do it for years. I remember watching Sharny and Julius(training program) talking about the biggest culprits when it came to sabotaging a diet and training and sugar of course was one of them.
      They then said, they couldn't afford to do that cheat day or cheat meal, they simply couldn't and had been much happier since they didn't allow themselves that cheat.
      It made the following days harder to stay focused on the goals, cravings were back etc. And it hit me.
      I decided to quit sugar like a smoker quits smoking, like an alcoholic quits drinking. I can't have just one and I know it. I cried on Thursday, I felt scared and at the same time resolute.
      It's for the best. I wish you success and health. It won't be easy all the time but so worth it.

    I'm in my 60s and have exercised every day all my life. We practically lived outside as kids. On a recent beautiful day, I noticed as I was walking that there wasn't one child at the playground, and I know there's lots of kids in that area. Way too much screen time obviously and maybe that includes the parents who are too busy on their computer to take their child to the park. So sad. Thank you for having one of my fav. health practitioners as a guest. I always learn something new. Dr. P mentions DHA being good for increasing BDNF - great to take a good quality cod liver oil (refrigerated) for that as well as some nuts. Pecans are my fav. since they have the best omega ratio (not so much omega 6 like in almonds and almond flour - I thiink people go overboard with this).

    The last two year, I had become greatly addicted to sugar. I decided one month ago to go raw vegan since I had already done it for a few years and it did good to my body. I was aiming to heal my body. More so the fact that I had severe acid reflux and it had done so much damage that I now had asthma symptoms, ear pain, sore throat, and was basically very sick for more than one month. This scared me so much knowing I was responsible for this just by eating so much sugar! I now see a huge difference by eating good food. My brain is thanking me every day. I feel vibrant, no longer in a daze, the acid reflux is almost gone and the coughing is rare and no longer constant. Food can be our friend or our enemy and the addiction to sugar or bad fat is so destructive.

      sugar is excellent for your health. I promise. look into the work of Dr. Ray Peat. If you don't eat sugar your body is going to take it from wherever it can get it =bones, muscles... Your brain and liver function on glucose. What you feel when going vegan is a major cortisol spike and a reduction in symptoms due to your immune system being shut down by the abundance of polyunsaturated fats that are prevalent in a vegan diet. I don't mean to rain on your parade but for whatever reason, I felt compelled to write you this. Remember sugar and high fructose corn syrup act pretty differently in the body. If you want to listen to some podcasts about all of this look up Danny Roddy. He interviewed Dr. Peat a lot. Also, you can read a lot of Peat's articles by just looking him up. Anyway, I wish you the best.

When we were created we didn't have refrigerators full of food and fast food restaurants in every corner. The truth is, now days we eat too much and exercise very little. There were no cars, or any form of transportation when we were created. We are meant to look for our food, therefore, we had to exercise while looking for our food. We need to change the way we eat and need to exercise much more. Most importantly, we need to love each other. We are all one race. The Human Race.....

    I’ve been on the ketogenic diet for 191 days now , I did this because I have fatty liver and learned that the keto diet allows your body to burn fat for fuel instead of glucose and in doing so it will reverse fatty liver . Since then my blood sugar went from 177 to 91 ( measured at 1 hr after dinner), my A1c from 6.1 to 5.5 , my liver enzymes from AST =69 and ALT =121 down to AST= 27 and ALT =33 , my total cholesterol was 191 and now 174 , my BP is now at 124/80 without my BP meds ( I was hypertension165/96)

    Yes Ernest, from my perspective all of this matches what I have learned in 64 years of life, living, and watching people not live well. AND, when I myself have felt better than other times. Exercise: if you don't use it you lose it; and, what you keep nourished "well" is different for each person. That is why the saying, Physician heal thyself, is relevant, because we are the only ones that can monitor on a daily, hourly, basis what makes us feel well, and what does not. Being able to measure all of these things can be mimicked with journaling, and speaking with a skilled nutritionist, MD who has studied nutrition (because they all have not), or other informed healthcare provider. Did not mean to come in and speak this long. It is just a very important aspect for whether or not all the Coaching I give people is sustainable is whether or not they are well enough to commit to being able to achieve their goals....ergo, support groups. Be well everyone.

    • @dronesandnature
      @dronesandnature 5 років тому +24

      @@SiddikaKobir I believe that -- after 34 yrs of nursing/medicine and being a daughter to two parents with terminal cancer -- that we def have to choose how we approach end-of-life and illness...when we can still make those choices. Do we want to be in the ICU on machine? Do we want to prolong life-saving (but not quality-altering) measures? Do we want to be a shell of a body in a nursing home where we have NO dignity (I do nursing home abuse cases, so I see this in ALL my cases)? Do we want to be medicated up the hilt where one side effect is being treated with yet another med? It's about quality of life. And I think that what's being brought to the forefront by Dr. Perlmutter and others is that we DO have choices about a lot of it to change the trajectory of aging. And yes, donation....100% with you on that! And if I lose my mind, I hope someone puts me on an iceberg and shoves me out to sea because that would be the worst fate i could imagine.

    In response to Alzheimer's, Stanford University used my mother a number of times in their studies and trials, and the doctor in charge of one particular study looked me straight in the eye and said that my mother had the slowest progression of Alzheimer's of any known case in history. Following that was a brief chit-chat, but she did NOT want to get into the specifics of what I did for my mother, which were in fact novel methodologies which were conceived from a great deal of thinking and research; with no allegiance to the "grain" of scientific dogma at the time.
    I have yet to meet a doctor who is courageous enough to be interested.
    Fundamentally--and they keep dancing around this fact--is that every Alzheimer's patient has a high load of heavy metals in their brains. The inflammatory response at some point changes; the body gives up on trying to expel these metals, and then switches into protection mode by forming the plaques. That's a BASIC premise which I suspect to be true, but I've never heard anyone else speak of it. I AM PROPOSING IT, MYSELF. I could be wrong, but it doesn't matter too much if I am because my treatment based on that premise appears to work anyhow.
    There has been a holistic approach to chelation which has been in development for at least a decade. It involves Chlorella, Alpha-lipoic acid, cilantro, and possibly something else which I just can't remember at this moment. The proportions/dosages/schedule were being worked out and it wasn't much use to me while my mother was alive, unfortunately, but by now it should be close to if not ready for primetime. (On a side note, this chelation might also be a key treatment for Autism.)
    I provided my mother with good nutrition as best I could. We tried to exercise as much as I had time for. But the main things which seemed to have the most effect were the supplements. The herb Gotu Cola was #1. It tastes awful though, and must be given in multiple doses through the day, mixed into orange juice or something like that. Your body excretes it rapidly, like it does vitamin C.
    Then of course lose the butter and use plenty of coconut oil instead. That soothes the brain, among other things. Anti-inflammatories like tumeric should regularly be added to food. Good quality fish oil is another thing to add via whatever means to the diet.
    Guarana is another herb to look at. I can't confirm its efficacy with the same level of certainty which I can for Gotu Cola, but it was also part of the program. Since I developed what I did, the field of Nootropics was created. There are many particular nootropic compounds I would be examining and testing if I were still a caregiver right now. There is so much potential within that field to find effective treatment and to unlock understanding as to the mechanism of Alzheimer's.
    I would give her Vitamin D, multi-Bs, etc. Always good to have adequate levels at least. I suspect that in the elderly, their general uptake of nutrients is reduced, as is their ability to become hydrated. Because of the latter, I would ply my mother with not only drinks throughout the day, but fruit like cantaloupe and watermelon.
    Use no fluoridated water in cooking with metal pots or pans. We should not have any exposure to fluoride EVER. There is nothing good about it. Fluoride ions bind to metals, literally etching metal ions out from the surface they contact (most particularly when heated, as in cooking), and the fluoride ions then act as "keys", allowing them and their guests--the metal ions--to easily cross the blood/brain barrier. In my opinion, this is the primary mechanism for depositing metals into the brain, and explains the mysterious and vexing statistical "coincidence" of how every single Alzheimer's brain which has been autopsied shows excessively high levels of metals in it; aluminum and mercury, among others.
    All this is off the top of my head, and it may well be incomplete. It's been about 9 years since my mother passed away. If I remember anything further I'll try to come back and re-edit.
    I hope this info helps someone caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's. I do not regret for a second the extra years I had with my mother which I would not have had, if I'd followed the advice of any AMA trained doctor. All the work was worth it for me.

      Cad Helios no he said women have higher chances of dimentia on low insulin. You can produce insulin on keto with proteins. Most of the benefits from ketosis come during fasting. Having carbs creates spikes and dips in insulin which messes wither castings ability to shift into ketosis. Insulin isn’t the problem, sugar that forces your pancrease to inject too much is.
