- Edit: watch my supplemental video on installing the PAC ROEMINS-2 System:
• 2003 Infiniti G35 PAC ...
In this video I will update the 15 year old Bose head unit in my G35 with a new Pumpkin Autocar head unit running Android 8.0. The unit has 32Gb of storage and 4Gb of memory. The install was a bit tricky when it came to the wiring but I will show you in detail which wires to connect to ensure proper functionality. In this install I re-used the stock radio bezel but modified it with a double-din sized hole to fit the new head unit. If you need to do some special wiring I've put the wire color info for the stock Bose unit at the bottom so keep scrolling.
Parts List:
Pumpkin Head Unit: www.autopumpki...
Infiniti Stereo Wire Adapter: don't use the one in this video, use the PAC ROEMINS-2 System Interface... www.amazon.com...
Radio Antenna adapter: www.amazon.com...
You will also need a set of JDM heater controls like this: www.autoparton...
If you have to make special wire connections because your head unit isn't the same as mine it will be easiest to run wires back to the amp and connect there as all wire connections will be available there. Here are the high side (line-level out) and low side (pre-amp) wire colors for the Bose Amp. Also see this post.... good info and pics at the bottom of the page: g35driver.com/...
The wire colors out from the amp are as follows:
driver door/tweeter: g + r -
passenger door/tweet: gy + y -
rear driver: g/y + b/y -
rear pass: br+ b -
driver woof: l/y + w/g -
pass woof: l/r + l/w -
Wire colors (low side) entering Bose amp:
rear left = lg + pu -
rear right = l (+) p (-)
front left = w + or -
front right = or/l + w/l -
control = sb (light blue)
backup = y/r
------------------------------------------------------
Legend:
b= black
blue = l
brown/tan = br
light green = lg
green = g
dark green = dg
grey = gy
orange = or
pink = p
purple = pu
red = r
white = w
yellow = y
Thanks for the video. Have had my 04 coupe for 13 years this month. Low mileage driver mostly garaged and the car is as solid as anything new on the market so why pay50k for a new interior Time to upgrade some of the tech and thanks to your video I am more confident in tackling that myself. Tons of how tos on g35driver as well but always good to see videos. Yours was really helpful. Thanks bud! Hope you are enjoying the upgrade.
It is working great. I wish Pumpkin would upgrade it to Pie but I don't expect them to. Install "Headunit Reloaded" app if you want Android Auto functionality.
JR's Garage awesome. Glad you are enjoying it and thanks for the tip!
This video is very informative thanks
Happy to help.
@@JRsGarageHow long did it take you to install?
@Iamablackkid a couple of hours including the modifications to the bezel.
@@JRsGarage Really I got charged $400 JUST to install AND they took around 4 hours 😠
@Iamablackkid ouch
I have a beat up aftermarket kit with missing pieces. I'ma get a stock one at a junkyard and give this a shot thanks for this video.
My pleasure.
you saved me $195, Thank you for this one man
My pleasure.
Thank you! I'm about to do this too, besides the cutting of the existing dash piece. This will be a hue help! Cheers!
My pleasure.
What tool did you cut the bezel with? Thats a clean looking cut!
A Dremel with a cut-off wheel attachment.
@@JRsGarage awesome. Thanks!
hey so i bought a dual double din and there isnt a harness with the pre amp outs,,?? i bought the same metra wire adapter u linked but nothing on the stereo side has any way to plug in the pre amp cables.. ? is it the head unit i got or did u buy something to use those big plugs
Must be the head unit you got. Has to have preamp outs to use that adapter harness. If you don't have pre amp outs on your head unit you'll have to wire around the stock Bose amp. I'm assuming you also have the Infiniti Bose system like mine.
JR's Garage yes I do. I got it to work for just the two front speakers.. any diagram or any direction u can point me towards wiring in the rear speakers
Easiest to run two wires back to the amp and connect there as both right and left rear door will be available there. Here are the high side wire colors for the Bose Amp. I'm not sure why the volume doesn't work on the pioneer double din everything else works on my 04 G35??
This may help. a.co/d/3YmcL68
how come u dont need the solid blue wire on the infiniti adapter?
ua-cam.com/video/8qye8zNCPlo/v-deo.html. Sorry, this video is one of my oldest and so I can't recall all of the wire colors and what they do. Also make sure you watch this one. It is a follow-up.
Hi, the climate control and radio main board are combined, how did you separate it?
Is the air conditioning control main board sold separately or do I need to cut it between the two?
You need to purchase a JDM heater control unit. You do not cut the circuit board. See parts links in the description.
Thanks you helped me figure it out im so greatful u took the time to make this video
My pleasure.
Woh what is that Bluetooth thing you talked about in the beginning and how does it work???
It's a Bluetooth car adapter. Something like the link below. I don't think that they still sell the one that I have pictured in the video. a.co/d/1vu3KGy
@@JRsGarage thank you! So how does it work exactly? Like how does that thing connect to my car speakers? Because my stereo on my g35 is pretty busted. If this device can work to be Able to listen to my phone music in my car again I’d be so happy. I used to use cassette aux but my cassette player broke
Cause also the 03 g35 which is what i have aswell doesn’t come with an aux input. So I’m jus curious how exactly it works? Really appreciate all your info and help :)
@@cstove1713 I think it was a FM transmitter. It's been so long I can't remember for sure.
I remember now. It was one of these iPod adapters which also had an aux in. I don't think they sell it anymore. www.crutchfield.com/S-CI3yhksmIBW/p_581PA11NIS/USA-Spec-iPod-Interface.html
I just hooked up my stereo using the metro kit. Did you have any issues with the heat/ac control? My AC only works if I set the thermostat to 60 degrees. If I bump it to 65 the heat comes on full high temperature.
No, I've never had any issues with the AC control.
Can you tell me where exactly you trimmed on the aftermarket hvac buttons? I’m having a hard time getting mine to sit properly on the OEM bezel
I can't say exactly where the trim was made. I do remember trimming the black plastic on the back of the aftermarket heater controls to make it fit. If you line it up from the back you should be able to see where you need to cut in order to move the controls left or right so that they line up with the holes in the bezel.
Can you link me please to everything you got so I don’t go through the struggle. Thanks
The links to all the stuff is in the video description.
I bought my g35 with a metro double din already installed but my hvac controls weren’t connected and I can’t find which factory cable connects to the after market ac control :(
There should only be one that fits the Metro double din. If it's not there behind the head unit and maybe the previous owner removed it.
When you hooked everything up with the harnesses with the rcas did you notice it wasn’t very loud? I did this same setup on my maxima and I can crank the radio all the way up and barely hear it
ua-cam.com/video/8qye8zNCPlo/v-deo.html
Have a look at this video I made as a follow-up, it may help your volume issues.
How do you connect that ribbon electrical connection for ur hvac controls to work onto the aftermarket one?
The aftermarket one is made to connect to the factory connection.
do you have to cut the wires that you cut for the aftermarket stereo or is that optional?
This video is a follow up to the one you posted on. It has more info on wiring. ua-cam.com/video/8qye8zNCPlo/v-deo.html
Where did you get the black trim piece to cover up the gap for the radio?
It came with the head unit. I used a Dremel to shave it down a bit so it would look better.
Have they added the quality audio chips or whatever was lacking in these Android head units that resulted in inferior sound quality compared to traditional aftermarket head units?
The audio is comparable to the Bose in my opinion. Not that the Bose was great, but it was perfectly adequate for my taste and so is this Pumpkin unit.
One of the items Cant be found in your description from Amazon. Also which model so I select from the pumpkin website?
Make sure to watch this video as well. ua-cam.com/video/8qye8zNCPlo/v-deo.html
4 years late, what is the plastic little compartment above the heater controls for? Is it just as stated a compartment? 😂
Yes, it is a compartment, to put things in.
Can you post the links from where you bought the kit
Ok, I updated the links. Also make sure you view my supplemental video about installing the new Infiniti interface here: ua-cam.com/video/8qye8zNCPlo/v-deo.html
Bro I need to bring mine to you and have you do the same thing to mine and pay you. Seems complicated with the wiring the rest seems fairly easy
It's not the easiest job, that's for sure. With the wiring color codes it's doable though. Maybe bring it to an audio shop and have them wire it up.
Where did you get the Bluetooth thang?
Amazon, you can search for car Bluetooth adapter. Mine was connected via an iPod input (which is no longer a thing), but you could use an FM modulator or tape deck input.
I have an 03 , how are you getting bluetooth through the ciggerette lighter adapter? My 03 has no MP3 , im wondering how the music is playing though the speakers?
@@EddieTheMush I brought this Thang off of Amazon
You can use a FM adapter to play through an unused FM station.
@@JRsGarage i have an aftermarket pioneer dbl din in with a ipod cable running for my ipod 👨🦳 , i was trying to find a way to get bluetooth access without taking the dash apart and running a new cable , couldnt find any adapter that would use my ipod cable to power a bluetooth device ... thanks
Thank you for this one
My pleasure.
What's the model to that double din stereo?
it's from Pumpkin Audio available on Amazon or eBay I don't think they sell that model anymore because it's a couple years old they probably have a newer version now but it's just an Android head unit.
@@JRsGarage if I sent you a pic of the one I bought on Amazon could you tell me if it'll work ? I'm confused by all the connections , but wiring is easy to me .
Any head unit we'll be connected about the same way just make sure you buy a PAC ROEMINS-2 System Interface Kit, available on Amazon it will allow you to connect the new head unit to the stock Nissan/Infiniti wiring.
@@JRsGarage ok that came in the mail yesterday thank for your help bro.
@@JRsGarage did you use any line output converters ? I have two LP5-4 but I don't want them if I don't need them
can you put it back to stock after the double din is installed
Only if you don't cut up the stock stereo plastic bezel to fit the double din. The wires can be spliced back in to their original connection if you want to put it back to stock.
@@JRsGarage i’m sorry but what do u mean by the plastic bezel. i have a double din in my g35 but i have a stock stereo unit, i don’t care about bluetooth i prefer the stock interior look
If you are keeping the stock stereo, what are you wanting to change? I'm not sure what you are trying to do.
@@JRsGarage i got into an accident, and i bought another g35 which has a double din, i want to take my stock unit out and put it in the new car because i prefer the stock look and feel.
Got it, yes you should be able to put it back to stock you'll just need to match up the wire colors and replace the harness that that guy probably ripped out with the harness from your car. if he tore out the Bose amp when he was doing it it might be a trickier situation.
Did you experience reduced volume and sound quality?
Volume yes, sound quality I don't think so.
How do y'all have reduced valume
@@diceloc441 Because this Metra kit was not intended to be used on cars with Bose. It messes with the balanced differential signal.
The PAC ROEM-NIS2 is the correct harness to be used to retain the factory Bose amp. I said fuck it and bought an amp and speakers.
Thanks for the suggestion I just ordered a NIS2. I'll swap it out and let you all know how it works.
Thank you for sharing that this knowledge I was having problems trying to install my aftermarket radio watch the video and problem fixed
Happy to help, thanks for the comment.
Very informative
Thank you.
Links for all the parts ?
Read the full video description. This video is old though so some of the links might not work anymore, you might have to search Google or Amazon.
Thanks for your great video.
My G35 radio stopped working. With your guidelines I’m upgrading my radio to 10.1” 1 din head unit. So I can mount above the climate controller. It will cover the clock a little. Thanks to point that G35 has amp build in, so I will use the pre-amp wire :). After radio, I’m planning 360 camera!
Happy to help.
Where did you get the radio from ? Can you send the link please ?
Amazon, but I don't know if they have the Pumpkin brand any more. Just search for double din Android head unit and pick the one you like. Installation is pretty much the same.
Thanks
My pleasure.
Can you update it ?
I don't think so.
do i need to unplug battery ? before starting this process
Yes, you should disconnect the negative terminal.
This is a royal pain in the ass. Nissan and Infiniti always wanna discourage customers from doing it themselves. The trim around the clock is like a ticking bomb that will blow no matter what. Brittle it will just break nd that thing expensive although you can glue it and paint it black nd it looks fine
Yea, my clock surrounded cracked the 3rd time I pulled it apart.
@@JRsGarage glue it and paint it
I rather buy one then have to cut all this
That's an option as well.
Do mine for me I’ll buy everything and pay you??
If you're going to pay someone to do it, better off paying a professional. I'm sure there are plenty local to you.
