The "white stuff" is actually very important for cooling the chips. It is called Heat Sink Compound and you must replace it if you clean it all off as your unit will overheat without it. Make sure you always replace the heatsink, or make sure you don't clean it off so there is enough left to provide a good thermal connection between the chips and the case.
That is correct. Although the quality of said compound is questionable at best. We normally replace it with Arctic afte we installed additional heat sink plates to really tighten the fit.

Hi, I've just received a DOA unit from Soarcomer (blank black screen). The unit is a 9.5" with the newest 2K screen (2000x1200 pixels). I ordered 6/128 but the sticker on the back says 8/256! Whatever, the unit doesn't work :/ My unit SEEMS to boot (or at least it has power on the motherboard) because when I provide 12VDC to the 2 pins BAT/GND of the main 16-pin connector on the rear, the blue LED on the PCB lights up. Also, "CAR_BT" is broadcasted in Bluetooth. However, if I plug just USB like you show on my computer: nothing, the PCB LED does not light up. Any idea?
I have a cheap android head unit from ebay. Have had for 2 months or so. Suddenly ot will do nothing. No screen light up, buttons don't light up, nothing. Sometimes you can see a dim luminance in the screen for a few seconds as if it is attempting to come on. But nothing else. Can someone please help me with this issue,???

I have a similar Chinese multimedia, and the touchscreen is unresponsive. Since the USB is working, I attempted a hard reset and calibration using a USB mouse, but it was unsuccessful. I decided to order a replacement digitizer (touchscreen), but the issue persists. I suspect it might be related to the chip, and I wanted to flash it. However, when I connect it via USB to the computer, the Device Manager doesn't respond, whether the device is powered on or off, even though the USB mouse works. I'm doing this as a hobby, but I'm unsure about the next steps and what to do next.

I have the YT9216BJ_00012_V0001 and im having issues with the mains audio going out except when i hit a big bump or hit the dash just right. all 4 door speakers will cut out simultaneously like it's going into a protected mode but my s/w output is 100% unaffected. I might have a grounding speaker wire in one of my rear doors but haven't had the tools to get the doors opened after my truck bed was broken into in my apartment-locked parking. if I can get it working I'd like to flash it with your software, if i can't I'll send it as a donation and go back to my Kenwood DDX2.
I downloaded the firmware using sp flash tools. After the process is completed, there is no visuals or turn on the device. The main issue is, the device is not detecting the PC. Please help
Good video. Anybody know if this head unit motherboard has pins for a battery? Mine performs long cold start every time power is applied. The long start makes the back-up camera somewhat useless as I am usually backed-out of my driveway or parking spot before the head unit has completed booting. The motherboard needs a "suspend to RAM" power-down and a battery to keep the RAM alive.

Thank you, I managed to revive my unit, but now I have another problem next to my mercedes logo, boot mode selection appeared, volume up for selection and volume down for selection, I have three options recovery, fastbooti normal. My unit has no physical buttons and I can't select either one option to select and the selection arrow itself goes non-stop from one to the second and third option. Hi there I just got my new android 11 sterio yesterdy and tried doing a update on it I think it was a MCU,the screen froze completele and it would not take any comands so I pressed RST it turned off and does not turn back on. Ive tried pluhhing unplugging, battery check everything basically It wont turn back on. Any idea or advice?
If you were updating the MCU, then you have unfortunately broken your unit beyond most means of repair. You should never attempt an MCU update yourself. It's an expert level update and requires special equipment and knowledge as you first need to backup the original MCU and only after - attempt the update. You need a new motherboard to solve the issue.
hi i have this same motherboard, the blue light turns on however it flickers and flashes brightly for a second. the issue with the car stereo was it would show the android logo for a fraction of a second and then reboot and do the same over and over. is the board fried ?
Not sure if this is something you still dabble in but I'd love to see the flashing of an AvinUSA headunit. I'd love to run a custom ROM on that unit. I own their SD625 variant. Love the unit but hate the OS. I'd love something lighter, local, and with less bloat. More tablet and less infotainment.

It's likely your system files got corrupted when some of the apps got auto-updated. You can try factory reset your head unit. Refer to the instruction manual that came with the unit or contact your seller.

Sounds like an issue with the Sleep mode. Try to disconnect it from car battery and then re-connect it again and see if it boots up. Do this 2-3 times. If it doesn't boot every time, then it's a hardware issue. If you are under warranty - simply return it. If not - we can take a look at it if you wish to send the unit to us to the UK.

I have the same unit 8227L for a bmw e46 and the FM radio stopped working. No sound, It doesn't respond to touchscreen, can't change the stations of radio band. But the upper buttons RDS TA PTY work. Also the rest of the Android unit, apps and everything else, rear view camera work fine. Only the FM radio does not work. I've reset the unit several times from the menu and by pressing the little reset button with no success. It reset only the settings but there's no option for hard reset . Can you please help me? I tried contacting the seller but he can't help me. Thank you
If you have the same unit (which is unlikely as there are 100s of permutations out there and while they might looks the same, they are all different), simply reset the Radio app as you would with any app on an Android (delete Cache and Data for that app). If that doesn't help, you might need to re-install the Radio app but for that you need root access - so it's a fairly advanced type of modification.

I think the FM radio is not a part of the android system because I can't find the application. How can I gain access to system root? Can you help me with this process?
@777Z if you're on Android API 23 then install SuperSU root through TWRP Recovery mode. If you have Android API 27 or later, then install Magisk same way

Hey man, great video! I got a question as you look like a person who might help me. I have a yt9216bj unit which makes an incredibly annoying cracking sound when volume is set to more than 16. It seems to occur only at peak power (like when bass hitting hard or some hard rock music going on). At this point I am asking myself if the unit is overheating or not having enough power. In case of overheating is there a thermal compound i need to replace in order to resolve this? Also, I am not using any amplifiers etc, only the 4 stock speakers i have in my car.
This is a very common issue and unfortunately it's on hardware level. Your head unit is equipped with YD7388 onboard audio amplifier that is worse than bad. Not only it overheats, but it simply can't cope with anything above 15W. The solution is a hardware mod to TDA7850 with a 10,000 mf capacitor and temperature-controlled cooling mod. Our head units are equipped with this by default. Also, if you build a small external 17v 10A power supply and add Viper4Android DSP engine - your head unit will deliver unbelievably good sound, especially if you have an active subwoofer in the car (even a small underseat subwoofer will make a huge difference). @@extrememod_ahu i replaced Amp ic with pioneer PA 2030 and now its sound is much better, but ihave an other issue when i start it in morning it hang for two or three times and need to reset, it is happening before the ic changes
@@bobibakar could be anything but make sure to change the surrounding electronic components as per the PA2030 datasheet or your unit will stop functioning - if you are running factory software, try custom firmware and see if the problem persists. Also try MCU update if you know how to backup MCU first

Sounds like some of your system files got corrupted. If you don't have a full backup made in SP Flash Tool, then you need to hire an expert to help you.

Unfortunately we are not familiar with your head unit type. For BMW you want to use Qualcomm-based units, not Mediatek. Check out this seller on AliExpress: EBILAEN
@Daniel Aleksandrov can't really say. If this unit is like the cheap Chinese head units, you'll need much more than just a fan. When we do cooling mods - they include custom heat sinks and circuitry for PWM control (I.e the rotation speed of the fan is controlled by the temperature of the internal amplifier)

It's not uncommon for these units to have issues with the USB ports. If you are within warranty, simply return the unit. The method in the video does not aply to your unit.
Hi. Thanks for the video tutorial. I have a T700 android unit with the build version as alps-mp-o1.mp5. After changing my speakers which had torn, I noticed that both the buttons on the unit and those on the steering wheel stopped working later in the day. The unit still boots up and apps can be opened and interacted with, but no sound is heard. The radio app doesn't show any station, just shows 0.00, and if you go to settings and open the infotainment section, it closes back by itself (this does not happen to any other settings section). How can this be resolved please?

Usually 6 pins and it is driven by GT911 chip. Some radios use different GT chip. Don’t know how to use it with raspberry, but there will be some way to do it.
I was wondering about the same thing. I have a Fiesta Android and the performance is terrible. Would be good to try and hook the screen up to a pi, but I can't find information about whether the android screen connection is DSI compatible or not.

That is absolutely correct. This method initiates the communication mode. I should mention however, that Test Point should only be used on a bricked device. If your head unit is working, you can enable communication mode in SP Flash Tools and use "Readback" function to read you EMMC. Here is the video on how that's done. I have a Android 10.1 head unit in my 2013 VW CC. I went into the android settings and pushed the "Build Number" 7 times to become a Developer Options. In Developer Options display I tried to change the display of the head unit by pushing 4k. Now everything on the display screen of the head unit doubled up so many times. The screen is showing the display about 8 times across the screen. So I am unable to go into settings and change it because I can not see the settings because of the multiple displays across the screen. Can I factory reset the head unit by taking it apart or unhooking the cables on the head units circuit board? I need help with information on an alternative way to factory reset this unit with having to use the display screen.
You can, but this wouldn't be the method. This mehtod is for bricked units only. Consult with the manufacturer on how to reset your head unit. Or check out XDA forums
Man I did the same damn thing. I’ve got some kind of overlay on it and I can’t get it to do anything. I had some luck with a keyboard but I still couldn’t get to settings to change it back. Let me know if you find an answer. I’ve been fighting this for over a year now with no luck. I contacted the company (XYAuto) and the seller and no one could tell me how to force factory reset or anything!!

So my head unit smokes from the rectangular chip thing that had the thermal paste on it in the upper left corner of the motherboard, when I apply power. Can anyone tell me what this thing is, and maybe where I can get another one?

I have a similar Chinese multimedia, and the touchscreen is unresponsive. Since the USB is working, I attempted a hard reset and calibration using a USB mouse, but it was unsuccessful. I decided to order a replacement digitizer (touchscreen), but the issue persists. I suspect it might be related to the chip, and I wanted to flash it. However, when I connect it via USB to the computer, the Device Manager doesn't respond, whether the device is powered on or off, even though the USB mouse works. I'm doing this as a hobby, but I'm unsure about the next steps and what to do next.

I have the YT9216BJ_00012_V0001 and im having issues with the mains audio going out except when i hit a big bump or hit the dash just right.
all 4 door speakers will cut out simultaneously like it's going into a protected mode but my s/w output is 100% unaffected.
I might have a grounding speaker wire in one of my rear doors but haven't had the tools to get the doors opened after my truck bed was broken into in my apartment-locked parking.

Good video. Anybody know if this head unit motherboard has pins for a battery? Mine performs long cold start every time power is applied. The long start makes the back-up camera somewhat useless as I am usually backed-out of my driveway or parking spot before the head unit has completed booting. The motherboard needs a "suspend to RAM" power-down and a battery to keep the RAM alive.

If you haven't performed any firmware updates then it's likely a hardware issue. You should be able to claim warranty

Thank you, I managed to revive my unit, but now I have another problem next to my mercedes logo, boot mode selection appeared, volume up for selection and volume down for selection, I have three options recovery, fastbooti normal. My unit has no physical buttons and I can't select either one option to select and the selection arrow itself goes non-stop from one to the second and third option. Hi there I just got my new android 11 sterio yesterdy and tried doing a update on it I think it was a MCU,the screen froze completele and it would not take any comands so I pressed RST it turned off and does not turn back on. If you were updating the MCU, then you have unfortunately broken your unit beyond most means of repair. You should never attempt an MCU update yourself. It's an expert level update and requires special equipment and knowledge as you first need to backup the original MCU and only after - attempt the update.
You need a new motherboard to solve the issue.

Not sure if this is something you still dabble in but I'd love to see the flashing of an AvinUSA headunit. I'd love to run a custom ROM on that unit. I own their SD625 variant. Love the unit but hate the OS. I'd love something lighter, local, and with less bloat. More tablet and less infotainment.
You are running a completely different unit based on Qualcomm technology. Qualcomm is notoriously difficult to mod.

It's likely your system files got corrupted when some of the apps got auto-updated. You can try factory reset your head unit. Refer to the instruction manual that came with the unit or contact your seller.

We clean off the paste for demonstration purposes. You don't need to do that. When we rework these models, we use Arctic Thermal paste.

Brilliant video. So I followed your method and was able to write BOOT1 at 0x0 with touch points method. I do have memory dump (scatter, bootloader, user data) as guided by you in other video. While attempting ROM_USER, it doesn't detect computer. You mentioned that it should detect after BOOT1 write.

Sounds like an issue with the Sleep mode. Try to disconnect it from car battery and then re-connect it again and see if it boots up. Do this 2-3 times. If it doesn't boot every time, then it's a hardware issue. If you are under warranty - simply return it. If not - we can take a look at it if you wish to send the unit to us to the UK.

You can't, unless you have full backup with preloader and know where the Test Points are located on your particular motherboard

I have the same unit 8227L for a bmw e46 and the FM radio stopped working. No sound, It doesn't respond to touchscreen, can't change the stations of radio band. But the upper buttons RDS TA PTY work. Also the rest of the Android unit, apps and everything else, rear view camera work fine.
Only the FM radio does not work.
I've reset the unit several times from the menu and by pressing the little reset button with no success. It reset only the settings but there's no option for hard reset .

If you have the same unit (which is unlikely as there are 100s of permutations out there and while they might looks the same, they are all different), simply reset the Radio app as you would with any app on an Android (delete Cache and Data for that app).
If that doesn't help, you might need to re-install the Radio app but for that you need root access - so it's a fairly advanced type of modification.

@777Z if you're on Android API 23 then install SuperSU root through TWRP Recovery mode. If you have Android API 27 or later, then install Magisk same way

Hey man, great video! I got a question as you look like a person who might help me. I have a yt9216bj unit which makes an incredibly annoying cracking sound when volume is set to more than 16. It seems to occur only at peak power (like when bass hitting hard or some hard rock music going on). At this point I am asking myself if the unit is overheating or not having enough power. In case of overheating is there a thermal compound i need to replace in order to resolve this? Also, I am not using any amplifiers etc, only the 4 stock speakers i have in my car.
This is a very common issue and unfortunately it's on hardware level. Your head unit is equipped with YD7388 onboard audio amplifier that is worse than bad. Not only it overheats, but it simply can't cope with anything above 15W.
The solution is a hardware mod to TDA7850 with a 10,000 mf capacitor and temperature-controlled cooling mod. Our head units are equipped with this by default. Also, if you build a small external 17v 10A power supply and add Viper4Android DSP engine - your head unit will deliver unbelievably good sound, especially if you have an active subwoofer in the car (even a small underseat subwoofer will make a huge difference).

@@extrememod_ahu i replaced Amp ic with pioneer PA 2030 and now its sound is much better, but ihave an other issue when i start it in morning it hang for two or three times and need to reset, it is happening before the ic changes
@@bobibakar could be anything but make sure to change the surrounding electronic components as per the PA2030 datasheet or your unit will stop functioning - if you are running factory software, try custom firmware and see if the problem persists. Also try MCU update if you know how to backup MCU first

Sounds like some of your system files got corrupted. If you don't have a full backup made in SP Flash Tool, then you need to hire an expert to help you.

@Daniel Aleksandrov can't really say. If this unit is like the cheap Chinese head units, you'll need much more than just a fan.
When we do cooling mods - they include custom heat sinks and circuitry for PWM control (I.e the rotation speed of the fan is controlled by the temperature of the internal amplifier)

It's not uncommon for these units to have issues with the USB ports. If you are within warranty, simply return the unit. The method in the video does not aply to your unit.

After changing my speakers which had torn, I noticed that both the buttons on the unit and those on the steering wheel stopped working later in the day. The unit still boots up and apps can be opened and interacted with, but no sound is heard. The radio app doesn't show any station, just shows 0.00, and if you go to settings and open the infotainment section, it closes back by itself (this does not happen to any other settings section). How can this be resolved please?

Usually 6 pins and it is driven by GT911 chip. Some radios use different GT chip. Don’t know how to use it with raspberry, but there will be some way to do it.
I was wondering about the same thing. I have a Fiesta Android and the performance is terrible. Would be good to try and hook the screen up to a pi, but I can't find information about whether the android screen connection is DSI compatible or not.

That is absolutely correct. This method initiates the communication mode. I should mention however, that Test Point should only be used on a bricked device. If your head unit is working, you can enable communication mode in SP Flash Tools and use "Readback" function to read you EMMC. Here is the video on how that's done. Hello, how can I know what my starting address is for South America?
I have a Android 10.1 head unit in my 2013 VW CC. I went into the android settings and pushed the "Build Number" 7 times to become a Developer Options. In Developer Options display I tried to change the display of the head unit by pushing 4k. Now everything on the display screen of the head unit doubled up so many times. The screen is showing the display about 8 times across the screen. So I am unable to go into settings and change it because I can not see the settings because of the multiple displays across the screen. Can I factory reset the head unit by taking it apart or unhooking the cables on the head units circuit board? I need help with information on an alternative way to factory reset this unit with having to use the display screen.
You can, but this wouldn't be the method. This mehtod is for bricked units only. Consult with the manufacturer on how to reset your head unit. Or check out XDA forums
Man I did the same damn thing. I’ve got some kind of overlay on it and I can’t get it to do anything. I had some luck with a keyboard but I still couldn’t get to settings to change it back. Let me know if you find an answer. I’ve been fighting this for over a year now with no luck. I contacted the company (XYAuto) and the seller and no one could tell me how to force factory reset or anything!!
@booneygurl21 check out our video on fully backing up your System. After that you'll be able to create a "Hard Reset" file and reset your System that way

Hi! I have a 12.8 inch vertical android head unit for toyota crown, it stuck on android logo, now i dont know the firmware or any details of it. How can i go on with flashing it? The reset button isnt helpful at all on this unit
It's impossible to say as there are hundreds of different head unit models.
@@extrememod_ahu is there a way i can format it? i dont mind losing any data, all i want is for it to work again as from factory. I followed the instruction to install MTK drivers but when i connect it, its not detected at all but i can hear some clicks coming from unit's motherboard

So my head unit smokes from the rectangular chip thing that had the thermal paste on it in the upper left corner of the motherboard, when I apply power. Can anyone tell me what this thing is, and maybe where I can get another one?
Unortunately not an uncommon problem. These units have no thermal protection. This is by far one of the most common modifications we do for our customers.
