This is an excellent video! I don't think it is that bad of an install (granted, I have done a lot of them in my life). It is straightforward, but you must be cautious. If this is your first install, I strongly recommend setting aside at least one day and make sure you have backup transportation. Personally, I think 99% of head units look like garbage when paired with the G35 interior. A really well rounded, affordable, stock-looking head unit that is perfect for the G35 would be the Sony XAV-AV5000. It mounts flush with the Metra and has unrivaled competition. For those of you who want the parts list, here you go. Dash kit: Metra 99-7604 Wiring harness: Metra 70-7551 Antenna adapter: Metra 40-NI10 Line output converter: PAC LP5-4 L.O.C. PRO Steering wheel control interface: PAC SWI-RC Don't cheap out, and not get these parts (steering control is okay to skip, but I don't recommend it). For the sake of simplicity, go with all of these brands listed above. Tips: 1. Before you pull the Bose radio out, turn the volume up to about 75% (while it's on). It is the last that the Bose amp's volume will be adjusted, so make sure you give yourself plenty of headroom. 2. Before you install everything back to their places, individually test each speaker. You can do this by using the fader/balance. There are a lot of places where you could have goofed up on the wiring. The RCA's need to be snugly placed (maybe taped) to reduce the chances of disconnection. 3. Watch the video as many times as you need. The worst you can do is generate these guys some more ad revenue (not a bad thing). Don't be discouraged that this is not as easy as a 90's GM vehicle radio install. The G35s are spectacular cars that really do benefit from a new head unit. You have to realize, you can't escape a timely install on cars these days. Buying a car with an aftermarket head unit is really sketchy and not always worth it. So many people do horrific and lazy jobs installing these. People will scratch, scuff, and break trim pieces and I have seen people wire head units by cutting off the factory harness connector and use 120-volt wire nuts to connect the wires to the aftermarket head unit harness. When you do a radio install yourself, you know if it is quality or garbage. Unless you know it was professionally installed, I think it is better to buy a G35 with the stock Bose head unit. That way you know the factory harness wasn't molested.
I thank the heavens that they changed the design from 2005! The Metra kits are just so janky-looking, though!? THAT'S the main reason why I haven't tried to upgrade mine yet. The buttons are spongy even though they are rather resilient and will last for years. You do get JDM parts for a double-din radio in the USA but they are EXPENSIVE (around $350 just for the trim piece)! I'm rather OCD about things so what you guys just did would drive me insane and at least double as long as both your time together, since I won't even "allow" myself to replace old clips - everything must be unused! I mention this just so you will understand(?). I will certainly become a desert-wanderer. On a lighter note though... excellent video with excellent information for people wanting to attempt this!!!
It seems like manufacturers, especially luxury brands, make this hard on purpose. Which is frustrating when you consider that all of the work and expense could be avoided if this manufacturer simply updated their maps.
Great video, it’s exactly what I needed. There was already an aftermarket radio in the car but no radio and a few harnesses. Now I can finish the job thanks so much! Great details and tips.
Great video fellas! I literally just did a Pioneer double din install in my buddies G35 a few days ago so I know every step you guys took to install it ha ha! I honestly just went with the first harness you showed w/o the RCA's. You're right about the volume being loud by volume level 10 or so, but it really does sound great still. I would recommend using it to anyone. For anyone that is thinking about doing a double din install in their G35 the Metra kit is a great kit and fits very nice and looks really once its in. Only thing I will say is make sure to take off the cig lighter panel as well as the opposite panel too. You will fight with putting the kit back in if you don't. It'll get hung up on the vent!
Just installed a new sony double din in a G and it sounds amazing. Just followed thru the video as they were doing it and took my time wiring. This video was very helpful 👍🏼
I just wanted to say thank you for inspiring me to do my stereo!! At first because I haven't done it in so long I didn't think I would be able to do it.. but after watching your videos you guys inspired me and gave me the confidence to go ahead and get back at it ! Thanks 💪🏼🍻 By the way would you know where I can buy the pocket ?? I have looked everywhere and no luck ..thanks and keep up the great content 😎👍🏼
Me - "Hey Joe, what did you do this weekend?" Joe - "Well, I installed a new radio in that G35 I just bought." Me - "Oh, I saw the for sale sign on the windshield, why would you put a new radio in it before you try to sell it?" Joe - "When I say that I installed a radio, I mean; I'm pretty sure I traveled through a few of the 9 circles of hell." Me - "Bad huh?" Joe - "I really don't wanna get into it." Your video is by far the best of 6 videos I’ve watched about this particular job. You answer all the questions that I didn’t know I need to ask. I have a Japanese (RHD) 2003 Nissan Skyline which is identical to a Infinity G35, but mirror image. I want to upgrade the outdated radio system with a Bluetooth capable like you did here. Could you recommend some brands before I buy? Do you have any recommendations since you posted this video on what I could do with factory NAV system. It works as a Japanese TV and NAV System, which despite my ability to translate, is outdated and useless. I’d like to take it out and replace it with iPhone Charging pad and also make it so I could mount one of my old or current iPhone there. That way I could use my iPhone for navigation. Do you think I could take it out? Do you think I could connect the pad/magnetic style charger to power? I’d like to keep the physical slide up and down feature.
The wiring is so confusing I honestly feel that it was rushed, this is free content so I’m not complaining but you know I didn’t learn much, thanks for the effort tho.
Thanks for the video. I just had a Pioneer double din installed in my '03 and it sounds like absolute $#!+. I am sending this video to the shop that did my install. I am thinking they just hooked up directly and didn't take into account the difference in the Bose speaker impedance. Every speaker sounds blown and it has no bass and no power
I know you probably wont see this its been a couple of years since you uploaded this video, but can i ask witch radio you used, that would be very usefull to know.
I love my G35 , but I dislike the radio ,won't say hate ,because everything still works Everything...After watching this I feel confident in replacing it. Out with the old in with the new. wish me luck and patience lol
Did you guys change metra kit colors throughout the video??? The dash kit looks COMPLETELY different from the box opening to the final install. I have a 2004 6MT Coupe with willow interior, and I think the proper color is the "silver" metra kit. It looks like you intially had the tan and then switched to that one, or does the lighting really make that much of a difference??? Please advise. Thanks. I just received a scoche kit and it is a POS, so gonna return it and get this one.
Do you have any tips on getting the gear shift cover back in place? I’m having trouble getting the entire middle piece back in, and trying not to break it.
Awesome video guys! I'm thinking about doing this instal to my g35! I was wondering, how does this aftermarket install compare to the sound quality of the factory boss system? Also, using the PAC LP5-4 4-Channel Line Output Converter you didn't mention the hookup for the subwoofer amp? Is the subwoofer hooked in a different way? Thank you
My son has the same car 2004 and he wants to upgrade too. But he wants to bypass Bose amps and go to 2 different amps a 4 channel and a sub amp. What wiring harness would you suggest to make it the easiest for him? This video makes it easier for him to take his dash apart. Thanks Dean and Fernando for the very informative video.
So why did you cut the rcas from the converter and wire them into the radio harness? Could you have just plugged them into the front and rear RCA outputs on the back of the radio? I as because I used the same car harness you guys did in the video and plugged the rca directly into my radio. However, I am experiencing the limited volume range as well as distortion. I’m planning on getting the pac rca converter you guys used to correct the issue. I guess I’m really asking can I just plug the converter into my radio and the harness rcas into the box? I have an Appradio4 by the way. I found that with the rcas plugged into my radios f&r outputs you get much better sound when you turn the high power frequencies in the crossover off. Any advice or information would be appreciated greatly. One more quick question. Can I just replace the Bose speakers with aftermarket 4ohm speakers? I’ve heard they use 2ohm speakers and a .5 ohm sub. Do you know what the Bose speakers resistance is or how much wattage the system puts out per channel? I’d really like to replace st speakers but I cannot find and information about the Bose factory specs. I’m not driving a G35 but it’s counterpart an 04’ 350z. Thanks for the video guys well done. I look forward to hearing from you. -Will
The best option would be to replace the Bose speakers with aftermarket and bypass the Bose amp. Using the Bose amp for aftermarket speakers is not the best idea. We use the radio output power because that is what is needed for a High level input on the device. The low level of an RCA is not enough power to make sound.
Five Star Car Stereo thanks guys. So should I turn my high power frequencies back on in the crossover? Will that converter clarify my wound at higher volumes? I def want to bypass the Bose system & do my own stuff again. It’s gonna be a lil while cause the holidays and bills. I was recently running all Orion XTR highs, mids, and lows. Along with XTR amps. I was very impressed going from kicker to Orion. What do you recommend for an 04 350z with the pioneer AppRadio4 sph da120? I’d like to utilize the sub compartment for a free air sub or even partially seal it up and make it a ported box and dreaded the entire cab with roadkill or something similar. Any suggestions would be greatly Appreciated. I was just gonna replace the Bose speakers with ona that fell in the same resistance range but were not in need of high rms to perform adequately. As of now the radio sounds great at about 16 but when you start driving Rod noise drowns our the clarity and turbine the volume up comes with distortion. I replaced the blown Bose 10” pancake sub with a Rockford Nissan lunch from an xterra that is a 3 ohm dvc running it at about 1.5ohm stable and the sub itself sounds better than all the other speakers, but where they are all tied into it trying to make speaker level adjustments only complicates things. Please help a brother out. I guess the next step is to add the pac unit and start acquiring components to build it right. Turn me on to a few things, I’m very open minded but like quality stuff. Thanks again, hope to hear from you soon. -William
ezyeRansburg, it's not that it's bad, but on the G35 / 350Z, the cars should be driven in manual. The driving sensation a driver gets in a manual can't be experienced in an automatic. Do yourself a huge favor and learn how to drive a manual then buy the car in manual
Parts list in the video: Trim kit may vary per car so I’ll let you research that. 13:26 Wire harness (PAC 70-7551) 13:57 Line output converter (PAC LP54 Locpro L5 4CH) 16:41 Steering wheel control (PAC SWI-RC) or Metra Axxess ASWC-1
I think I may have to drive out to Florida or wherever you guys are to get my double din installed when I get the money. Do one of these for the 350Z please. I know it's basically the same car but that would be awesome
Francisco Figueroa 911 rescues are audio install "do-overs" from previous installs that weren't done properly. I remembered Dean saying that Z needed a lot of work, I don't think they had a full install on it though, just a before and after.
hey, my friend, I live in Vancouver bc went to 4 guys, and not one wants to do the job on my 2003 Infiniti 35 they say is too much .....so I'm going to wait until cov 19 is over and go to Seattle .
I'm not good at electronics, my 06 g35 has this problem. Radio is a Sony 2din, installed after the old aftermarket had the same issues. Sound doesn't always come out, either from all or some of the speakers. Happens in every pothole, train track, or bump. At the shop where I got the stereo they said it was some lose connection, worked great for a few months and back with the same issue. Went to a different shop and dude wants to connect it directly to the stereo all the "new speakers and Amp plus new wiring". Should I take his advice or go somewhere else and get a different opinion? 🤔
No links to buy any of this stuff? So your not profiting in any way? You should get sponsorships, discounts, support for your store, tax breaks for adverts something. Can i see some links please?
So technically if I really wanted to, I could use a Line Out Converter without having to buy the Expensive PAC-OEM-1. I have a free Scosche SLC4 that I got from a parts car a while back and was curious if I can use that. Thanks in advance lol
So that kit works with the navigation I was told there's two kits I could not find the one that had the factory navigation so that one works....can you tell me exact place or part number..
Soooo we tried to do this yesterday and the sound doesn’t sound right where did we mess up we tried to follow your wiring instructions but it was kinda hard
What I have taken away from this is that ima just keep using my FM transmitter

Basically all I’ve learned is that I’m looking for a g35 with a stereo already installed in it 😂
I have mine installed for half the price of a stereo XD
I said the same thing until I found a G that was just too good to let it pass.
That's my issue now, I had mine for months but no radio to listen too.
I paid 560 to install mine 😂😂

Great video, what is needed to replace a stock Bose radio w/o amp and sub just 70 7550 and SWI RC no LP5-4

Very good clear and easy to follow steps. Great video, keep it up.

Greta job guys! Terrible shame that the G35 is an automatic, however
why are automatics so bad? thnking about buying one which is why i watching this.. but you are the 3rd person i have seen that hates auto
ezyeRansburg, it's not that it's bad, but on the G35 / 350Z, the cars should be driven in manual. The driving sensation a driver gets in a manual can't be experienced in an automatic. Do yourself a huge favor and learn how to drive a manual then buy the car in manual
ezyeRansburg I have an 2006 6MT - manuals at more fun and rewarding for those who prefer to row their own.
Parts list in the video:
Trim kit may vary per car so I’ll let you research that.
13:26 Wire harness (PAC 70-7551)
13:57 Line output converter (PAC LP54 Locpro L5 4CH)
16:41 Steering wheel control (PAC SWI-RC) or Metra Axxess ASWC-1
Is it works with pioneer
I think I may have to drive out to Florida or wherever you guys are to get my double din installed when I get the money.
Do one of these for the 350Z please. I know it's basically the same car but that would be awesome
Francisco Figueroa They recently had a video on the 350Z. I think it was a 911 rescue, not sure it was a full build like this one though.
J Silver a 911 rescue? I'll have to look it up
Francisco Figueroa 911 rescues are audio install "do-overs" from previous installs that weren't done properly. I remembered Dean saying that Z needed a lot of work, I don't think they had a full install on it though, just a before and after.
Francisco Figueroa It's this one, ua-cam.com/video/vHK0cC_MXwc/v-deo.html. Starts at 16:11, I thought it was a rescue but it's a regular full install.
J Silver thank you. I found another one too and they mention this video in that one. I appreciate it!

Where are you guys located? I been wanting to install one of those on my 2008 infiniti G35 so I won’t have to use an aux cable to listen to music 🙄🙄
Do you need the after marker bezel ?
What size stereo fits in the dash?
I'm not good at electronics, my 06 g35 has this problem. Radio is a Sony 2din, installed after the old aftermarket had the same issues. Sound doesn't always come out, either from all or some of the speakers. Happens in every pothole, train track, or bump. At the shop where I got the stereo they said it was some lose connection, worked great for a few months and back with the same issue. Went to a different shop and dude wants to connect it directly to the stereo all the "new speakers and Amp plus new wiring". Should I take his advice or go somewhere else and get a different opinion? 🤔
Where do I buy the raido hardness from or what's the part number looking to install it on my 04 g35 coupe

How much this whole installation cost with labor?
Best buy charges like 300 I'm pretty sure. Most shops charge even more
