"For the benefit of the uneducated among us, I shall translate." "Our chum can’t believe that Sedan’s fallen. I can."
Quote from Battle of Britain 1969
That opening scene, from the Rolls-Royce cutting out in roll to the destruction of Hurri's on the ground(one of my favorite fighters), really got to me when I was a kid.
@@mikhailiagacesa3406 It symbolized the retreat to Dunkirk well, especially the pan down from the Hurri to the long convoy of refugees and soldiers with the "Who the hell is 'e trying to kid?" reaction.
"How was it Taffy?" "Oh, you know Flight. A squirt here and there...Piece of Cake."
Kellaway - "Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed to so many, by so few"
Moggy - "Sounds like he's heard about our backpay then."
CLOD is a great game...much harder to hit anything let alone shoot something down than Il2 BOS I find, and aircraft management is crucial too...keep at it taff, love these vids.
I like the Hurricane. When I played European Air War, it was my first choice among many options.
Probably your best landing 😊
I love the early war campaigns.
My favorite WWII fighters are the glorious underdogs: The Hawker Hurricane, and P-40.
They held the line until better machines came on line, and they both had good service records.
Those aren't the underdogs.
The real underdogs are the Gloster Gladiator Mk II and the Fiat CR.42. (Desert Wings: Tobruk)
The Hurricane was no underdog in the Battle of Britain. Official records of the battle reveal that 60% of ALL Luftwaffe losses in the summer of 1940 were attributed to the Hurricane and while it was inferior to the Bf-109 in terms of speed and in the dive, the Hurricane had a significant advantage in the turn, and shot down almost as many Bf-109s as the Spitfire during the battle, especially in the last two or three weeks of the battle, when the Germans turned away from bombing the fighter stations of the RAF to concentrating their attacks on cities like London.
@@colindouglas7769 Yes.
That's all true.
But what is the general perception?
The Spitfire gets the glory these days.
@@timonsolus Tobruk isn't particularly early in the war.
But yes, both machines were inadequate for the ETO.
@@sopwithcamelus : I was referring to the PC flight sim ‘Il-2 Desert Wings: Tobruk’, which has the Gloster Gladiator and Fiat CR.42 as flyable aircraft, and has player campaigns for them.
I always run pattern convergence, with the guns paired from 200 to 500 yards. I also load the two innermost guns with 1 observer (exploding) round per 5 other rounds as they kill aircrew instantly dead.
Is this the official Battle of France single player campaign that came with Tobruk? I thought that was flying a Dewoitine?
That was challenging in the clouds but good mission to get back. I thought your navigational skills would be on display? Good landing 👍
Great video man! I love the battle of France! Btw it would be cool to the the hurricanes from the Belgic air force!
When will the DCS games get "Smell_O_Scope" tech that Futurama promised?
More videos from blitz and tobruk please!
'Avanti!'
Good job loved it.
Now that your doing the Battle of France, maybe you could escort a Sqn of defiants, defending Dunkirk ? 264 sqn were highly skilled, you could add external footage ?
Nice landing
So you can hear 109's with the canopy open? I envy you, for it doesn't translate over through UA-cam's audio.
How do you look around the cockpit with ease, without taking your hands off the controls? Is it your flight stick setup you’re using with extra buttons for hot keys?
Probably trackIR.
Is this a new scenario or from the orignal game?
You know what to do with the lame ducks
Nerd question: per sortie, which a/c got more kills in the BoB? Hurricanes, Spitfires, or was it about the same?
In the Battle of Britain, the Spitfire may have been the glamorous thoroughbred of the battle, but the real workhorse was the Hurricane. The composition of the squadrons of RAF Fighter Command during the battle was two thirds equipped with Hurricanes to one third equipped with Spitfires. The Hurricane could take significantly more combat damage than the Spitfire and could be patched up quickly and returned to operational condition often on the same day, whereas a damaged Spitfire had to be taken out of the line and returned to a machine shop for repair. By the end of the Battle, 60% of all losses suffered by the Luftwaffe were attributed to the Hurricane. You have to assume that most of those losses were bombers and since the Hurricane pilots were detailed to attack the bomber formations, the lion's share of the bombers shot down were claimed by them. However, there is a surprising statistic in that final analysis revealed that the Hurricanes also shot down almost as many Bf-109s as the Spitfire during the Battle. This could be a result of Goering ordering his fighter pilots to hold closer station with the bomber formations because of the inability of the Bf-110 to beat off RAF attacks on the bomber formations. The likes of Galland and Molders were bitterly critical of this change, because it meant that the 109s lost their advantage of height and speed in the dive and the Hurricane had a significant advantage over the Bf-109 in the turn. The short range of the Bf-109 was another weakness which was exploited when the Germans switched the focus of their attack away from attacking the RAF fighter stations to bombing the cities. The Bf-109 only had sufficient fuel for 10 or 15 minutes over London, so they were often picked off on their way back to base when they were low on fuel and ammunition, by RAF fighters who were fighting over "friendly territory" and able to break off combat, refuel and re-arm and return to the fight.
Anyone know a good resource on setting up & key
binding joystick/HOTAS for il-2? Just can’t get mine working.
What is your problem and what HOTAS do you have? I've never had problems using just the built-in settings menus.
Check out Sheriff's Sim Shack on UA-cam. He has done vids on this very subject.
Taff is the best
Do you you if you can play this with an controller?
Kinda frustrating, with the clouds and thick flack and smoke. Rotten visibility.
Does this mod require Battle of Tobruk?
Plz do more air war in Africa
Yes! Gloster Gladiator Mk II vs Fiat CR.42 biplane action!
@@timonsolus I was thinking more p40s over the desert but that would be cool 2
I wish IL2 GB had the Battle of Britain :/
When‘s a new career happening?
PS. Taff do another War on the Sea but with different units, then get the base almost built but don’t complete it, get a carrier group with like 5 carriers in it.
