    My Grandfather Paul Wicht survived August 18th 1940 with what he referred to as the "Ravens Day" He was with 3./StG 77 and was able to witness from his Ju87 rear gunners seat the numerous Hurricanes and Spits overshooting at his aircraft and recording hit after hit to the tail and wings before turning left or right for another return run at their aircraft. Paul held no grudge about the late fighter cover (JG27) at 14.30 or absense of it thereof as the mission had to go on after much waiting, after bombs were dropped it was an absolute mode of everyone scatter and fly for the French coast for themselves and hope for the best. His pilot had the skills flying only feet above the English Channel using last minute maneuvers to fly onwards. My Grandfathers Stuka was listed as on of the two aircraft "damaged" for 3./StG 77.

      Yes I do but I cannot post them to this response (no upload). He survived Poland, Eben Emael, Sedan, Dunkirk, St. Quentin, Calais Marne, Seine, Loire, BofB, Belgrade, Sevastopol, Stalingrad, and made it home.

      I don't know why we don't see the stories of people like your grandfather told on documentaries... i guess the wiener tells the story... but is not fair.

    I just watched this film for about the tenth time, and it still makes me choke with emotion. It was the first inspiration for me to get involved in flight sims and why I joined the ACG. I would rate this as one of the best air combat videos of all time. 'Bonkin', you made a masterpiece here. You can't watch this without wanting to be a part of it. Well done, and long live the ACG!

    Went on the ACG server last night. what an experience, took of from cambridge and was facing 2 109's on my own. got one smoking. Manage to hold them for a while before another spit came along and dispatched them both. Then back to cambridge for a well earned cup of tea ; )

    AS a child of the war. My father died on D Day. He was American! As a child I played on bomb sites in London and once a year watched the Remembrance day Fly past as our home was on the flight path from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle. Spits, Hurri's Lanc, all of them. My wifes 1st husband was a Navigator in Lancasters. He was in the RAF 1938 till 1945. My life is surrounded with memories and this made me weep for those we lost, I lost! But thank you. Lest we/some forget!

    Man. The stakes as a British pilot in these battles could not have been higher. Can't imagine what it must have felt like looking at the British countryside as you're about to meet a swarm of superior German 109s over the channel in your hurricane and trying to stop the rain of death from falling on it. And that's your life every day for months, if you even live that long.

      Throat Yogurt Yep,we sometimes forget the odds from the perspective of the Brits at that time.The bloody Hunnish types enslaved Poland, had run over most of western Europe and seemed unstoppable.But the,we've no option breeds---this is where the fight back starts---History is full of such times.

    • @sharangcool
      @sharangcool 9 років тому +2

      ***** .come now, I'm no expert on the tech used in those planes, but i'm pretty sure the 109s were better than the hurricanes flown, there was this book i read, an autobiography of a famous author roald dahl mentioning his experience in WW2, his partner in greece mentioned how their hurricanes were outclassed by the 109s and that their mission was almost suicide

    • @lehtokurppa7824
      @lehtokurppa7824 9 років тому +6

      Throat Yogurt Just think about Finnish pilots, they looked at the forest flying their B329 buffalos and Gladiators and looked at 30 approaching FAR superior Yak's, La's and there were only 6 Finnish. Seems impossible but usually Finnish were the guys who won those fights. Never fuck with the Finns :)

    • @LordMungo63
      @LordMungo63 9 років тому +7

      Corypheus Battle of Britain was early in the war, the Hurris were a good match for the early 109s, and the 109s had only minutes over target, so were considerably handicapped..The med conflict was 2 years later, by then the hurris were no match for the 109 gs by then....The Hurricane was a superb fighter, shot down more aircraft than the Spit in the Battle of Britain!

    Viewers may ask what happens with the empty cartridge cases that warplanes drop in such large numbers. They are large in size, heavy, and have sharp edges. I was on an infantry operation in Vietnam once when a US fighter jet passed overhead to strafe the jungle-covered hillside in front of an Army unit near mine. We heard the deafening roar of the jet and the BRRAAP of its gun, then yells from the other unit. The cartridge cases had showered down on them. I think they were more or less protected by their helmets and packs, but one guy was hurt so bad he had to be medivacked. I didn't see this close up, but we were told about it. During WWII, I am told, shrapnel rained down from the flak and it was dangerous to stand outside to watch the action. Just another story from times gone by.

    Absolute brilliant work Bonkin, you created a Masterpiece! :)
    When we (the members of ACG) started with the recordings for this movie such a long time ago, no one could ever have imagined in what a piece of art this will result. All the hours we spent on recording during countless Friday nights (with lots of alcohol and laughter included) now pay off when watching the result. Unbelievable what a genius with a vision in his mind can achieve together with a bunch of motivated and drunken guys. :D
    There couldn't be any better promotion for ACG, Cliffs Of Dover and it's community than this!
    I'm very proud to be one of the leaders of such a fantastic group of people. Things like this movie are what motivates me to keep ACG running, despite all the hard work and time I have to invest in it.

    Frikk'n epic. I hate to think how much time and effort went into making this but it's the best promo for a flight sim ever and must be close to FORever! Kudos Bonkin et al. ~

    Wearing my Poppy with pride. Yesterday here in the UK was Remembrance Day and tomorrow Remembrance Sunday.
    Thank you to the people who created this who gave us in the present some semblance of the utmost bravery of all the forces involved and the terrifying horror of that fateful day.
    ACG that was an incredible effort, must put ARMA away and climb into IL-2.

      You must, it's a different experience from shooters, and actually you don't need to not pick up Arma ever again just for flying Cliffs :) Drop by our forums and we'll train you up.

      AntiAddick Hi mate, love this video and love the idea of you're server's. I've been an avid flight simmer since the early 90's, I am really liking the look of this game, where would it best be purchased from ie steam or some other or digital download from the developer themselves?. Then I could join you guys online.

    • @AntiAddick

      Just get it from Steam, costs about £10, then install the Team Fusion patches - instructions here www.aircombatgroup.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2970 Please come by our Teamspeak and forums, we'll help you into the skies :)

    Excellent. My Grandfather has the honour of being the first coastal defence gunner to shot down a plane! The fact it turned out to be a Hurricane limping home from battle, appearing earily through the sea mist is not the point! Thankfully the pilot landed to ditch the aircraft into a nearby field, and then asked to see the gunners involved!
    Before he knew it my grandfather was in a tank as a gunner in Africa, where good luck seemed to befall him everywhere he was. Africa, Sicily and Italy. Stories for another day.
    Reference the above though, are all pilots part of a community or a squadron? I fly in DCS but spoke recently to a chap that flies in IL-2 and he’s kinda winning me over as to getting the sim but I’d rather fly multiplayer than solo.

      My god... makes me realise how important the large bomber raids are for this game..... really sets the heart racing.

      phil style Oh yeah Phil, but Gruber was instrumental in removing AI from the main server for the game. Now everything is right on the deck, and more players are sucked into that. It creates a transient following which is why we don't see it grow. Thankfully in ACG we stick to history and actually experience the BOB as this sim intended it to be experienced, We had a crack at getting people into other servers but it seems a bit of a "Build it and they won't come" :(

    such a seminal moment in history. And it's a great game, made so by the tireless efforts of Team Fusion. I got goosebumps watching this, just like I did when I watched the 1968 Movie. Great job.

      At first the poles were not regarded as good pilots but aftrer being tasked with protection flightrs over targets it was realised that they were in fact True Air warriors .

    Brilliant Montage of the BoB!!..What I like best is the correct portrayal of the Hawker Hurricane Mk1 in it's finest hour as it was numerically the most important RAF Fighter at this point of the war!..The Supermarine Spitfire already a superior fighter partnering it's stablemate beautifully..Also excellent action with Airfield attack scenes!!..Pretty impressive graphics..Great job and portrayal of both sides of the conflict!!.

    that opening speech, with that music and those visuals gives me chills every time (even if it was Chamberlain)

    • @Hmshood1809
      @Hmshood1809 7 років тому

      Dude, I'm referencing the very first speech in this video where Neville Chamberlain announces the outbreak of war with Germany, the part of the video set to little ben. Don't go and lecture people to flaunt your own knowledge, especially not when you are confused about what I was talking about, and why even do that here? I commented that I enjoy something about the video and you attack it, what warrants that? It is a matter of opinion as to how Chamberlain behaved, however keep in mind that in when he became Prime Minister, Germany was an emerging power, not an established one. He sacrificed Czechoslovakian and Austrian sovreignty for a peace that would ultimately not last, and in doing so gave Germany more time to establish itself. I do not claim my side of the argument to be any more valid than yours, but please do not confuse fact and opinion.

    • @Hmshood1809
      @Hmshood1809 7 років тому

      Tom Sanders I'll admit that that was a biased way of putting it, but Chamberlain does not have a very shiny reputation in the historical community, especially compared to Churchill and that was a jab at that. Apologies

    • @Hmshood1809
      @Hmshood1809 7 років тому

      Tom Sanders Firstly, I'm ethnically English/Dutch. My Grandmother had German soldiers billeted to her house and I lost 3 other family members due to the conflict. Even though it doesn't effect me, don't use the ignorant American stereotype, please...
      Secondly, thanks for your opinion, thanks for declaring it to not be a competition, but lay off the patronizing attitude. We're all here enjoying a damn good video, and starting a ruckus over a little comment like that was just triggerhappy. Hopefully that way, a part of the web can stay sincere and appreciative, with all the division everywhere else. Cheers.
