My Grandfather Paul Wicht survived August 18th 1940 with what he referred to as the "Ravens Day" He was with 3./StG 77 and was able to witness from his Ju87 rear gunners seat the numerous Hurricanes and Spits overshooting at his aircraft and recording hit after hit to the tail and wings before turning left or right for another return run at their aircraft. Paul held no grudge about the late fighter cover (JG27) at 14.30 or absense of it thereof as the mission had to go on after much waiting, after bombs were dropped it was an absolute mode of everyone scatter and fly for the French coast for themselves and hope for the best. His pilot had the skills flying only feet above the English Channel using last minute maneuvers to fly onwards. My Grandfathers Stuka was listed as on of the two aircraft "damaged" for 3./StG 77.
Yes I do but I cannot post them to this response (no upload). He survived Poland, Eben Emael, Sedan, Dunkirk, St. Quentin, Calais Marne, Seine, Loire, BofB, Belgrade, Sevastopol, Stalingrad, and made it home.
I don't know why we don't see the stories of people like your grandfather told on documentaries... i guess the wiener tells the story... but is not fair.
I just watched this film for about the tenth time, and it still makes me choke with emotion. It was the first inspiration for me to get involved in flight sims and why I joined the ACG. I would rate this as one of the best air combat videos of all time. 'Bonkin', you made a masterpiece here. You can't watch this without wanting to be a part of it. Well done, and long live the ACG!
I must say I'm much the same. I've watched it many times over and have been flying with ACG for over a year because of it. Its fantastic promotional material
Went on the ACG server last night. what an experience, took of from cambridge and was facing 2 109's on my own. got one smoking. Manage to hold them for a while before another spit came along and dispatched them both. Then back to cambridge for a well earned cup of tea ; )
An absolutely wonderful short. Well done to all involved in the production, and Churchill's voice gave it that extra touch that really made the film stand out IMHO.
If there is an Oscar category that this masterpiece will fit in it should be submitted. A superb tribute to all aircrew (many of who were very young men) under all flags. Brilliantly conceived and executed. Many many thanks to all involved.
Everytime I miss flyin with you guys I check this video out, I wasn't there for the production but I purchased my first flight stick after watching this years ago and it's what got me into flight sims. Hope y'all are doing well, Kaufman.
AS a child of the war. My father died on D Day. He was American! As a child I played on bomb sites in London and once a year watched the Remembrance day Fly past as our home was on the flight path from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle. Spits, Hurri's Lanc, all of them. My wifes 1st husband was a Navigator in Lancasters. He was in the RAF 1938 till 1945. My life is surrounded with memories and this made me weep for those we lost, I lost! But thank you. Lest we/some forget!
I just don't have anything in my vocabulary to say precisely how good this video was in it's entirety! The content, the editing the story etc. OUTSTANDING!
5th time I've watched it. Stunning. Great tribute to our boys efforts and sacrifices in a"just"and necessary war. Shame we don't have the same " leadership" in our day and age. Great work lads!👍😁
My God (who I don't believe in), this video is extraordinary! It is as good as a documentary. There should be an Academy Award category for films like this ... And you should win it. I thoroughly enjoyed it from first second to last! Thank you!! 🇬🇧🇩🇪 🇺🇸
Forgot how much fun making this vid was plus doing the RAF 'skins' and seeing them in this gives me a sense of pride. Top job Bonkin (and all who flew)
Well you should be proud... think this video has reached legendary status now.. incredible piece of work.... skins were a right mess though :D :D... j/k awsome job to all involved
Simply stunning!, you all did a great job with the games and the extras you worked so hard to give us. This is one of the best Battle of Britain movies ever
I absolutely loved it! You just brought the word "epic" back to what it meant before the internets. Awesome directing, grand sound montage and fantastic score... One hell of a ride!
All future productions from anyone will be measured by this Bonkin, great to see the finished article. That 20 seconds seem to take an age, I was on the edge there saying "come on 64", actually shouting at the screen :)
You know, I've watched this video several times over the past 6 months and each time, I am just amazed at the quality of it. Congratulations - while TF may have done wonders for the game overall (and I thank them from the bottom of my heart) - this video will undoubtedly get players in. Cheers
Absolutely speechless. I don't know how you guys manage it, the progress over the last few years has been incredible. I'm also very glad Rise of Flight fans will get some love!!! ^^
Amazing and deeply moving. Having worked on some similar but smaller projects I have some conception of the time and effort that must have been involved in this undertaking. Thank you to all of you. I find myself hoping that this kind of production might become for video games and youtube what graphic novels became for comics.
Man. The stakes as a British pilot in these battles could not have been higher. Can't imagine what it must have felt like looking at the British countryside as you're about to meet a swarm of superior German 109s over the channel in your hurricane and trying to stop the rain of death from falling on it. And that's your life every day for months, if you even live that long.
Throat Yogurt Yep,we sometimes forget the odds from the perspective of the Brits at that time. The bloody Hunnish types enslaved Poland, had run over most of western Europe and seemed unstoppable. But the,we've no option breeds---this is where the fight back starts---History is full of such times.
***** .come now, I'm no expert on the tech used in those planes, but i'm pretty sure the 109s were better than the hurricanes flown, there was this book i read, an autobiography of a famous author roald dahl mentioning his experience in WW2, his partner in greece mentioned how their hurricanes were outclassed by the 109s and that their mission was almost suicide
Throat Yogurt Just think about Finnish pilots, they looked at the forest flying their B329 buffalos and Gladiators and looked at 30 approaching FAR superior Yak's, La's and there were only 6 Finnish. Seems impossible but usually Finnish were the guys who won those fights. Never fuck with the Finns :)
Corypheus Battle of Britain was early in the war, the Hurris were a good match for the early 109s, and the 109s had only minutes over target, so were considerably handicapped..The med conflict was 2 years later, by then the hurris were no match for the 109 gs by then....The Hurricane was a superb fighter, shot down more aircraft than the Spit in the Battle of Britain!
It was that final speech of Churchill's that convinced my dad to volunteer for the RAF. He was real lucky and had a "good" war medevacing wounded out of the Arakan jungle.
This is absolutely amazing Bonkin! So many great shots, the sections in the clouds towards the ending gave me chills! Really wish I'd been around when you filmed this.
I've watched The Battle of Britain more than 20 times in cinema, DVD etc since the movie came on around 1970 but this compilation is the best. Keep up with the good work. Brilliant and awesome. Thanks to the Brits & co fighting spirits and the Americans' relentless help/sacrifice across the Atlantic.
This is so awesome, I watch it over and over again, especially because I know some of these pilots.... I get goosebumps every time..... I already purchased a joystick, and I will try it one day! I swear I will....
Without question, the finest air combat simulation movie I've ever seen, and one that shows off Cliffs of Dover at its best. Well done, ACG! Salute to all!
Sir, thank you for your kind comment. It has been an honour and a privilege to have been able to commemorate the courage and bravery of these men in some small way. All of us at ACG hope that we can keep their memory alive.
OMG Epic production Guys,I was completely immersed throughout. Beautiful Graphics and TeamSpeak really added to the realism. Amazing job by all, well done for sharing this masterpiece with us. You have done "The Few" and the Luftwaffe pilots Proud. Regards Keith :)
Well put together folks. I was mesmerized and couldn't stop watching it. Very well done. Thank you and God Speed to all our Allied Airmen who fought for FREEDOM.
It was really epic!!! the whole concept is so great and execution, I just start to simulate in your server but this video calls to keep flying and flighting in there.
What a beautifully-crafted piece of work. As an ex film and television cameraman I watched this video in awe. Faultless - superbly 'shot' and edited, music totally appropriate to each sequence. Someone has missed out on a really promising career in film! Living in south-east Kent I am near to the sites of all the airfields mentioned in the video so thanks to all those involved for such an imaginative and beautifully-executed experience.
Great imagery. Very realistic for the most part and also fairly accurate historically too. Well done chaps! as the English would say! More! more! ... and thanks!!
Viewers may ask what happens with the empty cartridge cases that warplanes drop in such large numbers. They are large in size, heavy, and have sharp edges. I was on an infantry operation in Vietnam once when a US fighter jet passed overhead to strafe the jungle-covered hillside in front of an Army unit near mine. We heard the deafening roar of the jet and the BRRAAP of its gun, then yells from the other unit. The cartridge cases had showered down on them. I think they were more or less protected by their helmets and packs, but one guy was hurt so bad he had to be medivacked. I didn't see this close up, but we were told about it. During WWII, I am told, shrapnel rained down from the flak and it was dangerous to stand outside to watch the action. Just another story from times gone by.
Absolute brilliant work Bonkin, you created a Masterpiece! :) When we (the members of ACG) started with the recordings for this movie such a long time ago, no one could ever have imagined in what a piece of art this will result. All the hours we spent on recording during countless Friday nights (with lots of alcohol and laughter included) now pay off when watching the result. Unbelievable what a genius with a vision in his mind can achieve together with a bunch of motivated and drunken guys. :D There couldn't be any better promotion for ACG, Cliffs Of Dover and it's community than this! I'm very proud to be one of the leaders of such a fantastic group of people. Things like this movie are what motivates me to keep ACG running, despite all the hard work and time I have to invest in it. Thank you Bonkin, and everyone else who was involved in the making of this movie! 6./JG26_Pitti
Fantastic video, well done. Hurricanes actually bore the brunt of the Battle of Britain, and woe the 109 who turned with it and found themselves in front of a good hurricane pilot.
Great realistic thoroughly enjoyed it. I was a evacuee during the war and watched some of the action, how brave those pilots were thanks to them we are still a free nation. We owe them a lot.
Excellent video. Fantastic. Almost as good as some sequences from the 1969 film. Brilliant music too. well done to all involved in making this, a film to be proud of!
Wow, this is very well done, like watching the movie BoB. I flew a few yrs ago in a squadron in regular IL2, but they are gone now. This looks like an incredible outfit you have. I know you got some amazing talent doing this video, as good as Harry Saltzman was directing the Battle of Britain movie which I made my poor grandmother sit thru two showings back in 69 when it came out. Makes me miss flying in a squadron. Salute to the RAF.
Well then what's stopping you--ACG has the Squadrons---go on---you know you want to! ps my old boy thought I was maybe a bit young at the age of 7 for the ketchup goggles shot in the Battle of Britain film, but I created so much he relented ---err he shouldn't have worried, bloody goggles no problem.Apart from the superb aircraft,it was the young Miss York wearing all that webbing that was the real eye opener!
aKa55 Yes, sorry its taken so long for me to see this. I do remember you. I'm on facebook, it's Carl Gould on facebook (not the correct spelling, but thats my site), and also NWGphoto on facebook, but I have a different name on that one. Sorry it was so long till I saw this. thanx for responding.
WOW!!! Fucking AWESOME....sorry for the swearing, but, bloody hell, truly amazing. You MUST get a commission to remake the 1968 Battle of Britain film. Please please please. Super well done.
I live in Dover and once worked at the castle there where the command post would spot planes crossing the channel during the Battle of Britain, and also the tunnels where Operation Dynamo was planned. Extremely well made video, congrats!
Frikk'n epic. I hate to think how much time and effort went into making this but it's the best promo for a flight sim ever and must be close to FORever! Kudos Bonkin et al. ~
used to play il2 when it first came out , frigging awesome sim along with Jane's ww2 fighters, I'll see if I can get a joystick, miss my flight sims!!!
Wearing my Poppy with pride. Yesterday here in the UK was Remembrance Day and tomorrow Remembrance Sunday. Thank you to the people who created this who gave us in the present some semblance of the utmost bravery of all the forces involved and the terrifying horror of that fateful day. ACG that was an incredible effort, must put ARMA away and climb into IL-2.
You must, it's a different experience from shooters, and actually you don't need to not pick up Arma ever again just for flying Cliffs :) Drop by our forums and we'll train you up.
AntiAddick Hi mate, love this video and love the idea of you're server's. I've been an avid flight simmer since the early 90's, I am really liking the look of this game, where would it best be purchased from ie steam or some other or digital download from the developer themselves?. Then I could join you guys online.
Just get it from Steam, costs about £10, then install the Team Fusion patches - instructions here www.aircombatgroup.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2970 Please come by our Teamspeak and forums, we'll help you into the skies :)
AntiAddick Hey thanks a lot mate, sounds great. I'll look it up on Steam. When I install it I'll get try for those Team Fusion patches. I'll get back to you here once done if that's OK, to let you know. Cheers for the info mate.
Excellent. My Grandfather has the honour of being the first coastal defence gunner to shot down a plane! The fact it turned out to be a Hurricane limping home from battle, appearing earily through the sea mist is not the point! Thankfully the pilot landed to ditch the aircraft into a nearby field, and then asked to see the gunners involved! Before he knew it my grandfather was in a tank as a gunner in Africa, where good luck seemed to befall him everywhere he was. Africa, Sicily and Italy. Stories for another day. Reference the above though, are all pilots part of a community or a squadron? I fly in DCS but spoke recently to a chap that flies in IL-2 and he’s kinda winning me over as to getting the sim but I’d rather fly multiplayer than solo.
phil style Oh yeah Phil, but Gruber was instrumental in removing AI from the main server for the game. Now everything is right on the deck, and more players are sucked into that. It creates a transient following which is why we don't see it grow. Thankfully in ACG we stick to history and actually experience the BOB as this sim intended it to be experienced, We had a crack at getting people into other servers but it seems a bit of a "Build it and they won't come" :(
such a seminal moment in history. And it's a great game, made so by the tireless efforts of Team Fusion. I got goosebumps watching this, just like I did when I watched the 1968 Movie. Great job.
At first the poles were not regarded as good pilots but aftrer being tasked with protection flightrs over targets it was realised that they were in fact True Air warriors . blog.nationalarchives.gov.uk/turning-points-in-the-battle-of-britain-the-report-of-raf-air-vice-marshal-keith-park/?unapproved=109095&moderation-hash=981563b92468693d2ffe93a2ee75f395#comment-109095
As a kid I always wanted this, and re discovered this gem the other day. Best game going I love it! Well done everyone who completed it. Stunning game!
Brilliant Montage of the BoB!!..What I like best is the correct portrayal of the Hawker Hurricane Mk1 in it's finest hour as it was numerically the most important RAF Fighter at this point of the war!..The Supermarine Spitfire already a superior fighter partnering it's stablemate beautifully..Also excellent action with Airfield attack scenes!!..Pretty impressive graphics..Great job and portrayal of both sides of the conflict!!.
Dude, I'm referencing the very first speech in this video where Neville Chamberlain announces the outbreak of war with Germany, the part of the video set to little ben. Don't go and lecture people to flaunt your own knowledge, especially not when you are confused about what I was talking about, and why even do that here? I commented that I enjoy something about the video and you attack it, what warrants that? It is a matter of opinion as to how Chamberlain behaved, however keep in mind that in when he became Prime Minister, Germany was an emerging power, not an established one. He sacrificed Czechoslovakian and Austrian sovreignty for a peace that would ultimately not last, and in doing so gave Germany more time to establish itself. I do not claim my side of the argument to be any more valid than yours, but please do not confuse fact and opinion.
Tom Sanders I'll admit that that was a biased way of putting it, but Chamberlain does not have a very shiny reputation in the historical community, especially compared to Churchill and that was a jab at that. Apologies
Tom Sanders Firstly, I'm ethnically English/Dutch. My Grandmother had German soldiers billeted to her house and I lost 3 other family members due to the conflict. Even though it doesn't effect me, don't use the ignorant American stereotype, please... Secondly, thanks for your opinion, thanks for declaring it to not be a competition, but lay off the patronizing attitude. We're all here enjoying a damn good video, and starting a ruckus over a little comment like that was just triggerhappy. Hopefully that way, a part of the web can stay sincere and appreciative, with all the division everywhere else. Cheers.
Damn. Almost seven years on and this is gripping stuff. So well edited and scored. Awesome work, all.
Brillant short Movie, 10 of 10 rating for this Masterpiece.
Never have so many owed so much to so few!(Winston Churchill)

Do you have any photos from your grandfather? It would be fascinating to see.
Yes I do but I cannot post them to this response (no upload). He survived Poland, Eben Emael, Sedan, Dunkirk, St. Quentin, Calais Marne, Seine, Loire, BofB, Belgrade, Sevastopol, Stalingrad, and made it home.

Ive just stumbled over this upload from 9 yrs ago. The enjoyment i got from watching it was immense. Epic job
I would like to congratulate everyone who participated in the making of this wonderful video. Churchill's voice gave me goosebumps.

em1o smurf would you by chance happen to have been wearing a smurf suit with a globe on it?

That's the best IL2 video i've ever seen, epic. Awesome skins and cinematography. The Manston scramble was a classic, just like the movie.
It was that final speech of Churchill's that convinced my dad to volunteer for the RAF. He was real lucky and had a "good" war medevacing wounded out of the Arakan jungle.

This video should be shown in a museum. Fantastic!
It is
ThunderGunZ yeah sure
Schallrausch It has been shown to multiple RAF stations at end of year dinners last year via one of our contacts.
That's absurdly under viewed video. Jeez, the best production value/content video i've seen of CoD! Lots of respect.
20:38 A piece of art that everybody should see
Well put together folks. I was mesmerized and couldn't stop watching it. Very well done. Thank you and God Speed to all our Allied Airmen who fought for FREEDOM.
Well done ACG!! Nearly 2 years since this was relased. I never thought we would get near 400,000 views!
I am from 5 years in the future. We now have 1.4M views on this epic Battle of Britain movie based on the Il-2 Cliffs of Dover map.
Wow ive got goosebumps, you folks sure made something special here! Bravo!!!!
It was really epic!!! the whole concept is so great and execution, I just start to simulate in your server but this video calls to keep flying and flighting in there.

That was the best air war simulator video I have ever seen in my entire life.
Thank you. It was a pleasure to bring to the community and show off the marvel that is IL2 Cliffs of Dover. Have you got it? You should!

After all this time it's still the best!! Many thanks!!
Excellent, been looking forward to this since the trailer! An outstanding effort and movie
This is the best flight sim film I have ever had the pleasure of viewing. Bravo!
Great job! Brilliant view of ACG in action and a great homage to those who fought in the Battle of Britain.

I don't give a hoot about the inaccuracies. This was a bloody blast to watch!
Absolute brilliant work Bonkin, you created a Masterpiece! :)
When we (the members of ACG) started with the recordings for this movie such a long time ago, no one could ever have imagined in what a piece of art this will result. All the hours we spent on recording during countless Friday nights (with lots of alcohol and laughter included) now pay off when watching the result. Unbelievable what a genius with a vision in his mind can achieve together with a bunch of motivated and drunken guys. :D
There couldn't be any better promotion for ACG, Cliffs Of Dover and it's community than this!
I'm very proud to be one of the leaders of such a fantastic group of people. Things like this movie are what motivates me to keep ACG running, despite all the hard work and time I have to invest in it.
Thank you Bonkin, and everyone else who was involved in the making of this movie!

Fantastic video, well done. Hurricanes actually bore the brunt of the Battle of Britain, and woe the 109 who turned with it and found themselves in front of a good hurricane pilot.
66 people are Hermann Goering.
FABULOUS! MAGNIFICENT! EPIC! Cannot throw enough compliments or kudo's to this amazing work by the SUPERLATIVE people involved! Well done!
Great realistic thoroughly enjoyed it. I was a evacuee during the war and watched some of the action, how brave those pilots were thanks to them we are still a free nation. We owe them a lot.
Peter Tucker yes!
Well then what's stopping you--ACG has the Squadrons---go on---you know you want to!
ps my old boy thought I was maybe a bit young at the age of 7 for the ketchup goggles shot in the Battle of Britain film, but I created so much he relented ---err he shouldn't have worried, bloody goggles no problem.Apart from the superb aircraft,it was the young Miss York wearing all that webbing that was the real eye opener!
hey saburo...its me aka from VF101 the grim reapers....do u remember me ? ;) we were flying together...
aKa55 DES_MX here, we are not gone! Lets do some efforts to rejoin?
aKa55
Yes, sorry its taken so long for me to see this. I do remember you. I'm on facebook, it's Carl Gould on facebook (not the correct spelling, but thats my site), and also NWGphoto on facebook, but I have a different name on that one.
Sorry it was so long till I saw this. thanx for responding.
Absolutely stirring, especially with the Churchill clips.Bang-up job guys, thanks much..
WOW!!! Fucking AWESOME....sorry for the swearing, but, bloody hell, truly amazing. You MUST get a commission to remake the 1968 Battle of Britain film. Please please please. Super well done.
Brought a tear to my eye...brilliant work...as close to being there as possible
This is very well done. Lots of the shots remind me of the BoB film, fantastic!
I live in Dover and once worked at the castle there where the command post would spot planes crossing the channel during the Battle of Britain, and also the tunnels where Operation Dynamo was planned. Extremely well made video, congrats!
Thanks for saying so!
"Every time I close that my canopy, I feel like I'm closing the lid on my own coffin." --Red Tails
Actually, that's a line from the documentary series "World War II in Color" credited to an unknown German Pilot in a letter to his mother.
Nicely done and I like the BATTLE OF BRITAIN speaking parts from the movie.
This truly is a epic piece of work, congrats on the result, giving me goosebumbs. This is a proper movie rating 10/10
Very, very well done footage and tip top, Bertie's your uncle, enjoyable.
Frikk'n epic. I hate to think how much time and effort went into making this but it's the best promo for a flight sim ever and must be close to FORever! Kudos Bonkin et al. ~
my God that was beautiful, could have watched a full length movie of this !!!!!
You can play it mate. Gaming PC and joystick required.
used to play il2 when it first came out , frigging awesome sim along with Jane's ww2 fighters, I'll see if I can get a joystick, miss my flight sims!!!
you should try blazing angels. its better
Tried blazing angel's , dont like it too arcade'y for me, cheers though :)
Better to post in the ACG forums mate, you'll get a faster response www.aircombatgroup.co.uk/forum/index.php
Best war movie I've seen in a long time.....You did an amazing job.
Good job done. I've got goose bumps while watching that...well done...
The first few lines gave me chills... Imagine hearing that back then "this country is now at war with germany"
If this doesn't bring loads of new players to this game.. then.. nothing will ;)
Great work chaps.
My god... makes me realise how important the large bomber raids are for this game..... really sets the heart racing.
phil style Oh yeah Phil, but Gruber was instrumental in removing AI from the main server for the game.
Great job.
It is great that Polish symbol has been included in this air combat. Thanks.
At first the poles were not regarded as good pilots but aftrer being tasked with protection flightrs over targets it was realised that they were in fact True Air warriors .

Flew with No. 615 for 2 years. Will never forget a moment of it. I watch this video every so often and it never fails to give me chills.
wow... this is a real good film. well done.
LOVED IT! Thank you for making guys! I'm going to share this with my squad. :)
Watching this on a 60 inch with surround sound is breath taking.. bravo !!!!!
As a kid I always wanted this, and re discovered this gem the other day. Best game going I love it! Well done everyone who completed it. Stunning game!
So Good....Big thank you for this Brilliant piece of work..So Good...
Top job mate, glad I could be a small part, if only the Hurricane skins (Kristorf).
Stay safe gents
that opening speech, with that music and those visuals gives me chills every time (even if it was Chamberlain)
Cheers.
That was absolutely stunning, thank you.
