    Hey Randy, senior master Ford tech here. Good thing about the 2.7, we hardly ever have a problem with that engine. Also, we add the factory brake controller all the time. It goes where that pocket is and it's just a change of personality options. Now the bad...... STAY AWAY FROM THE 10 SPEED TRANS!!!!!!! ITS COMPLETE JUNK!!!!! AT LEAST 3 TO 4 COME IN A WEEK WITH PROBLEMS. HAVE TO REBUILD THEM. STAY AWAY!!!!!! But Ford's warranty is 5yr 60,000 miles power train.

      Hi I have a 2.7 with a 10 speed it’s more than a year old with 5600 miles 2 wheel drive. I don’t tow anything and I love how smooth it is when I drive it. Any suggestions for keeping it off the twin post.

      Weird, I've heard great things about the 10 speed. Is every single 10 speed bad or were there various revisions over the years? I'm curious because the performance of the transmission is legendary and I would like to own a car with one some day.

    • @jamieanddacey
      @jamieanddacey 11 місяців тому +3

      @@tomcraftdonkey2285 the only ones we haven't had much problems with are the mustangs. The F150 and expedition at the worst. Ford has us rebuilding them. The CDF clutch drum bushing moves and causes extreme line pressure and blows out the seals on the inside

      For the 2.7 with the 10R80 transmission. The towing capability is not more than about 6k to 7 k lbs

    Hey randy i heard this on Reddit about the 2.7 so take it with a grain of salt.
    1. It has a fully compacted graphite iron block
    2. Direct mounted turbos (less input lag)
    3. Forged internals (pistons, crank, cams, etc)
    4. Dual injection (reduces carbon buildup)
    5. Electronic wastegates (reduces blow-by,
    6. Top cartridge oil filter (easy to remove filter)
    7. Internal exhaust manifold with coolant journals
    heats up quick in the cold, keeps cool in the heat)

    • @LynxStarAuto
      @LynxStarAuto 11 місяців тому +2

      They started with port injection in 2018, and the wastegate serves the purpose of to controling boost pressure. It's what bypasses the exhaust gasses and prevents the turbo from spooling.
      The coolant in the exhaust manifold is simply a port that feeds the turbocharger. Modern day turbochargers use coolant to help keep temperatures at bay and extend life. No other reason to run coolant through your exhaust manifold.

    Randy, what you're saying GM is spot on. My brother has a new 2021 Chevy Silverado. This is a big truck and it has a 4 cylinder engine with the turbo under under 20,000 mi and he's already having severe transmission problems where it will slip when it's cold. GM told him this is normal for that vehicle because there's a service bulletin on it. I told him I would drive it through the showroom window. He spent big money on that truck and a transmission is already having issues

    Randy, as you've shared your past life experiences in other videos over the years, I think it's the chase and then being able to actually purchase a vehicle you like at the time is what does it for you. Let's be honest, you've purchased at least 10 maybe more high end vehicles for your own personal use and the excitement seem to wear off quickly soon after purchase. It's the complex as a result of having ones nose pressed against a store window staring at something they desired, but couldn't afford at one time in their life and then having the means to do so. The spending to get the vehicle, not the vehicle itself, is what excites you. I know as I've been there before myself. It's your prerogative and your channel interests and entertains many, including myself. I've watched you since the beginning. At least you are able to afford to do it. There are many out there who cannot and got themselves into a quandary spending way above their means only to find themselves in a financial disaster. It plays a big part in the state of the car market today. Repos galore!!

    • @meatbeansandcheese
      @meatbeansandcheese 11 місяців тому +4

      The difference for him is that any vehicle he purchases can be used as a tax write off and it provides content for a youtube channel that’s monetized by our views. He can follow his urges and make them profitable unlike you and I.

      That's very true as well. More power to him for his ability to do so. What sets Randy apart from other UA-camrs who do similar kind of videos is that he has charisma and is very likable and entertaining to watch on a daily basis. Most people couldn't pull that off. I've watched other UA-camrs who just plain bore me. I can barely get through their vids. Not the case with Randy. Like my brother, who also has been an Uber driver, he appears to be an extrovert, which draws people in. I'm not like that myself, unfortunately.

    I've got a 2018 Ford Fusion Sport with the 2.7 twin turbo. The thing hauls ass, it is an absolute sleeper and incredibly fun. Of course it drinks gas like an alcoholic uncle drinks beer, but the smiles per gallon are worth it every time you step on it. It's also AWD, and a tank in the snow, and to top it off, it is loaded with everything imaginable for the year. I'd say the 2.7 is pretty slept on IMO, although probably not as ideal for towing as something else.

I would love to have a couple new vehicles but being of average income my money means more to me to be used and invested wisely instead of frivolous purchases just to try and impress other people. I think it’s always best to separate your “wants” from your “needs”. For example: I need a tow vehicle, I have a 2004 Chevy crew cab dually with the Duramax diesel. It’s not the most fancy truck, but it’s all the tow vehicle I will ever need, so that’s taken care of. Now I can concentrate on what I want…. I already have most of that, but I don’t have to worry about the tow vehicle issue.

    8:15-8:25 I totally agree with you Randy. When I initially bought my 1994 Volkswagen Golf Mk3 with the N/A 1.9 SDI engine I had two of my family members tell me theres better things to buy like a Kia from 2009 or something else that newer than an old car to them. And while this vehicle is incredibly slow paced, It has one of the most incredible and indestructible engines in VW's existence and this has been proven on many occasions, such as ours having two of the same Golfs with the same engine currently both pushing 500000km on just regular servicing without the big annual services. This car is the most fun, cheap to maintain and reliable car I have ever owned and don't plan on selling it, I don't care if its not flashy or cool by any standards and that its almost 30 years old next year. All I need is a good reliable car that I know won't leave me stranded and if it does, the repairs atleast will run me up from 20$ all the way to max 130$.
    So far the only issues my parents had with their Golf was just a busted Oil filter housing and they needed a new Bosch pump. Mine needed the clutch serviced and other things were regular servicing of things, I've had this car for one and a half years now

    Im a ford tech and own a 2.7 with the 6r80 & the 2.7 is probably the most reliable engine you can buy on a f150 (aside from the NA v6)

    Think that f 150 has been idling a lot and city driving. My f 150 with 5.0 gets around 19 to 21 highway with cruise set at 70. And I never get tired of looking at all trucks

    I’ve owned all 3 of the f150 engines. The 3.5 had cam phaser issues at 60k then lost a turbo at 70k. Traded it in and got a used 2.7. Had 80k on it and I ran it to 140k with zero issues. It also had the “max tow package” so came with the big fuel tank and not sure what else(gearing maybe) Towed a 16 foot enclosed and hauled a single car almost weekly. It was a great truck. Then came the 2019 5.0😢 oil consumption was horrendous. All were very nice trucks but I have to give it to the 2.7. Super reliable and did everything I asked of it

      2.7 is generally faste than even the 3.5 to 60 mph. It will always be faster than the 5.0. It has sooo much bottom end torque!! The motor was designed as a turbo diesel is designed. The block is the same alloy as the 3.0 Vulcan Diesel !! The 2.7 is surprisingly stout and likely the most reliable of the basically 3 motors you want in a F150. It doesn’t have the highest towing ratings, but it will tow what you are towing, no questions.

    I have a 2019 f150 and they get better mileage than what that one has. Towed a 1600 pound popup camper to the cape and back and got 18.6 mpg. It's all in knowing how to drive.

    My son Silverado 2.7turbo 310/430tq.. feels every bit as good as a 5.3L and tows just as much!

    You might be thinking of the 3.7l cyclone engine Ford puts in the work vans like the Transit. It's a tried and true motor, but its a tad bit underpowered and not as impressive in the towing category as the Ecoboost variants.

      You are 100% correct I own a 2019 Silverado with the 5.3 and know others. They all make that noise and I don’t worry about it. Honestly I don’t think you’ll have a issue if you actually change the oil when your supposed to. A lot of people put off changing their oil

    The 2.7 vs 3.5 is only a 50 horsepower and 70lb ft torque difference. The 2.7 can out perform any V8 made 15+ years ago lol. The torque is kinda insane on them. It'll pull almost at the speed of idle, it has the kind of torque that makes you think, is this a Hybrid?

    Coming from an Escalade owner I agree the 6.2 v8 sucks they always have have that lifter tick from mile 1, but the 3.0 diesel is excellent
