I see he’s caught in the “bells and whistles” department. Now in my 60s, I have learned (oftentimes the hard way) that every button, touchscreen, and gimmick included in newer vehicles is an invitation to failure.
And having to go through submenus to change the cab temperature? Totally unsafe!
They are overbuilding vehicles with a ton of what I call “computerized crap!” And now builders are starting to charge SUBSCRIPTIONS to use their software! What kind of self-respecting consumer will even tolerate such abuse???

There is nothing cheap about paying $45,000 on a pickup truck. Even the Maverick at $31,000 is too expensive. Trucks used to be basic and utilitarian. They were designed for work, not family haulers. The truck market is in luxury car territory. Trucks have lost their identity, and people purchase them as status symbols. It is just sad.

Would kill all other sales. A simple mini truck simple engine with a 5 or 6 speed standard. A/C and manual window options. That we can add the after market parts to upgrades we want. I had an Isuzu diesel P'up in thr 80's and it was $6k new. It wasnt heavy duty, but it did the job for a basic truck and even had AC. My other truck was pretty cool as well and was a Nissan Hardbody truck that I also paid around $6K for. It was so basic that there wasn't anything to go wrong. I did end up adding AC for $800 and drove it until '91 with great gas mileage and no issues. These are the types of trucks we need today for no more than $20k. No bells or whistles, just basic and reliable.

A lot of them have been retired to backup vehicles, almost exclusively used for Lowe's trips, dump runs etc. Whenever I go to the dump etc, there are s-10 pickups everywhere with historic tags.

The bed to cab distance on mine was 1/2" off and I didn't notice it for about a month. When I put a tool box on it, I noticed it. Athens Nissan tried to fix it and couldn't adjust it enough. They sent it to Athens Paint and Body, and they couldn't fix it either. They wouldn't buy it back and wouldn't fix it. I sold it for a loss and moved on, but I was highly disappointed in Nissan's customer service. As far as I'm concerned, I'll never buy another one. Go with another company. I worked at a Chevy dealer in 1970 in "new car make ready" The trucks came from the factory with no bed and no A/C, no power brakes, no power steering and no chrome packages. The customer would pick what they wanted and I would build it. I wish some company would sell a BASIC truck and let the buyer pick what they want. I know we have to have computers (crap) and other "safety" things but i'm sure a simple basic car and truck could be made and be much cheaper.

Who's paying $60k for a used Tacoma with 6k miles on it. KBB shows trade in value on a used TRD nicely loaded at 39,9 low end to 43,3 high end. The dealership is making a killing on it and you're making it sound like a good deal. The 2nd owner is going to take a massive hit on depreciation as it leaves the lot for the second time. This is why car and truck prices are still so high. STOP buying these vehicles at these ridiculous prices. @@richardmartink679 -- If we did away with dealerships, the process would only change a little. You would still go to a showroom, talk with a commissioned salesperson, and take delivery at that location. There would be a service bay somewhere on site or nearby. The prices would be roughly the same.
What would be different is the fact that the sales office would only deal with one company's brands. They would be more knowledgeable about their brands, etc. Warranty work would be simplified because you would only have to convince one bureaucracy that there is a problem.
Trade-ins would probably all be sent to auction, and buying a used car would likely not happen at major-brand showrooms. You would probably get more for trade-ins of the same brand, since they would have an interest in convincing you that their brand retains value better then their competitors' brands.

dealerships stocking higher trim options of the Maverick on their lot doesn't really make the truck controversial, it just points to how people on car lots tend to make emotional decisions and want all the features when they drive the different trims and models. like you said, you can order one online, but the instant gratification you point to wanting on the lot is exactly why they make more on higher trim stock.

But from the video he makes exceptions for other vehicles he does recommend that the RL has the same attributes. Maverick is unibody construction and is considered a “light use” truck and he’s ok with that. The Frontier is a body on frame but he barely mentions that and points out its reliable V6 which the Ridgeline also has.. but this guy never covers what exactly he doesn’t like about the RL. If you don’t like it that’s ok but as a reviewer you have a responsibility to explain why and have some credible reasons why.. if it’s just the styling.. well..say that. The RL is a great truck that does what most people need from a truck and leaves out things you don’t really need. Not sure what the hate is about.

The only thing that broke is the Navigation and the LCD Odometer. Everything else works great. I stupidly loaded around 3,600 pounds into it, hauling tile. I was not thinking, but nothing got hurt. I confirmed the weight because I could calculate the weight of tiles per box and that is very accurate. I confirmed by 2 witnesses that my local dealer, the Service Manager had around 750,000km on the Ridgeline - with original engine and transmission. Try that with a Colorado or Maverick... Impressive load… not that one should try it. I saw an older guy with a 90’s 4 cyl Tacoma with the same mileage 750K km. The body was in very bad shape rusty and all but engine ran smooth. He was waiting for delivery of his brand new 23 Tundra a retirement gift to himself.

Thanks for the info. what makes the Maverick attractive to many buyers(especially the hybrid) is the GAS MILIAGE -not only the price! Most people don't need big pickups so the price, quality and gas mileage are a huge thing & that's why they are flying off the shelf. You did not mention the gas mileage once. Someone that needs a daily driver and a pickup & who's on a budget don't want a pick up that gets 19 mpg and costs more than 40 or 50 large !

The mud flaps you would keep literally look as low or slightly lower than the side steps. The side steps are very helpful and you May wish you had them after getting rid of them.

Great job, the Frontier is overlooked because people don’t trust Nissan but they are good. I was going to do a similar video on the same thing, Instead I’ll just enjoy yours :). 40k is still too much though, buy used or wait

What’s killing Nissan is their reputation going down the drain because of the CVT transmissions, which aren’t obviously on their trucks.

It is a paradox of a truck. It's either a big little truck or a little big truck. It seems small and big at the same time.

not that many people want these small ass trucks, the price of these little dudes were the same prices of the full size trucks before

You can’t fit a bike in the back of a maverick front to back I’ve had three in the back of mine, you just tilt the tailgate and put it in the second position the tailgate down and it fits perfectly.

Interesting take on the trucks...I looked at um all and for the same reason as Nisson, I got a Honda. One thing important to me was there's 49" between wheel wells, an internal spare tire, and huge luggage department under the bed. The towing is 6,000lbs. There are very few accessories for it. Aftermarket Camper shells and sliding rear windows would be nice. The wheels it comes with are spiffy too.
