    Great review. I just bought a Monadnock autolock X3 and it's a nice piece of equipment, top of the notch really. Just had some issues with the locking mechanism but solved that easily with some drops of BreakFree inside the bearings and end cap.

      +Sinval Pereira Thank you very much; I appreciate the compliment! The X3 is pretty bad-ass. I got to "play" with it a few months ago. Keeping these guys lubed up is crucial and many people overlook the maintenance aspect. Thank you for sharing and please keep on doing so! -Hg

    As a note;
    The Plastic "Power tip" prevents breaking auto glass. The plastic does not allow you to break car side windows to aid trapped passengers after a crash.
    The older Steel tips would break out the windows in one or two hits.

      Most people I've talked to about this just hold the baton backwards when breaking auto glass. You'll hit harder that way at well.

    I was given 2 to instruct at my facility, and they both broke, one the first time I opened it. It wouldn't close, or one section would close, but not both. Yes, I know about the button. It went back to the manufacturer, and the replacement isn't fully reliable and only closes sometimes. Now the other one is locked open and won't close. We're supposed to get 600+ of these for just our facility out of a 20,000 baton purchase. We have to be the biggest purchaser for this company. I hope we have a better than 50% success rate.

    I started working security in October of 2016. 6 months later I got my certification for baton carrying. It's been 5 years and I am still in security and I still carry the exact same model of Modanock.
    Your video was one of the very first I ever saw on this baton.
    Over the past 5 years my baton has gotten a ton of use, however none of it was for defense or breaking windows. It's all been for moveing shit I dont wanna touch such as random articles of clothing and snakes.
    Do I regret my purchase of this over priced baton? (I say over priced because I've never had to really use it, haha), nope, not one bit.
    Thanks man!
    EDIT: I forgot to mention that the first baton you demonstrated strikes with was actually my exact same first baton. I gave it away, haha.

    Thank you for such a clear understanding of the benefits of this baton. While your editorializing about how the police are suffering unwarranted accuations is your perogative (but should not be included in a product review), no one is 100% perfect or correct in everything he or she does. We're seeing crimminality committed by some in uniform, with incontrovertible proof showing the have broken the law. At least ackowledge facts. It happens and the guilty must be held accountable, whoever they are.

    • @CoachHelder
      @CoachHelder  6 років тому +1

      Hello Anne, first off... Thank you for the feedback on the review.
      I spend a lot of time training and working with law enforcement; globally. This review was intended more for them than the average citizen due to laws and restrictions.
      So please keep in mind, that I was speaking to them and others in liable security positions such as myself.
      Now... Do we see officers in uniform that are not worth one thread of the patch that they wear on their uniform? Absolutely! Should they be held accountable? Absolutely; They are scum to me!
      The unfortunate situation is that these "Pieces Of Sh&T" POS" are the minority; at least in my experience.
      So I do acknowledge facts; but... I was not speaking to that minority demographic.
      Thank you for taking the time to comment and share your opinion. Trust me, your opinion is not far apart from mine at all.

      Hello Nema Nema, your question is very particular and difficult to answer on here; especially without me knowing your training level.
      My advice is that whichever tool that you choose to use for self-defense... Be sure to practice often with it and with precision. If you are new to this topic, I certainly recommend that you seek out a good teacher in order for you to hone in the basics. From there, it's all about personal practice.

    The trauma inflicted by impacting with the tubular part of the baton greatly outweighs the minor cuts from a roughened metal tip. I am not convinced about this liability issue of using metal tip.

    • @milesackers2935
      @milesackers2935 5 років тому +1

      The tip gets rough with usage and can cut suspects with causes the real liability. Police Officers are supposed to only use the force necessary. If they are just using a baton lacerations are not necessary

    Great video! I always thought the Autolock was a great idea, can be opened discreetly too. This may sound like a stupid question (I'm not very clued up!), but to oil the Autolock, (obviously you have to remove the end cap), are you supposed to do so with the baton opened or closed? I've heard conflicting advice on this. Some people say that you must extend the baton before unscrewing the end cap or the baton won't open again after, others claim that you should only unscrew it with the baton closed as it will get stuck permanently open if you remove the end cap whilst the baton is open. Don't know what to believe! Any chance you could perhaps do a maintainance video to iron out myths on this matter? Many thanks.

    • @CoachHelder
      @CoachHelder  7 років тому +1

      Thanks for the idea, Steve. This channel is focused on reviews but I will definitely consider doing a maintenance video on my other channels and blog: CoachHelder.com.
      Every baton's mechanism is a bit different. I always suggest following the manufacturers maintenance protocols for each baton make and model.

    Hi, never used a baton but looking to buy one, is this a positively good product self for defence, do hits from it inflict a good amount of damage, or should i go with a taser?

    • @CoachHelder
      @CoachHelder  5 років тому +1

      Hello Aditya, my advice is to carry whatever you are most proficient in. If you find a good teacher and learn to wield a baton effectively, than it will certainly be able to inflict a fair amount of damage to any "bad guy."
      The same advice goes for a taser or any tool that you choose to carry for self defense.
      Practice, Practice, Practice and make it an extension of your body.
      Also, play close attention to the laws in the area's that you choose to carry. What may be OK in one area, will be completely different when you cross a border.
      I hope that helps.

      Yes all my button lock Monadnock buttons rattle. They are not held together by friction so this is not really an issue. I have one of Monadnocks Friction locks it doesn't rattle but barely any friction locks do due to the design. I also have some ESP (Euro Security Products not to be confused with ASP) batons. They make a button lock very similar to the Monadnock and even though it is higher quality it still rattles being a button lock. The nice part about button locks is that you don't have to swing it to extend it, so if in a crowded area no worry about injuring a bystander you can simple pull it open with you hands also you can close it easily without a hard surface.

      That's definitely a scary situation, Groveish; thanks for clearing that up.
      But keep in mind that if these dogs are aggressive, you will have to wield that baton quite well in order to get yourself out of the situation.
      It could make the situation worse, especially if these wild dogs are in a pack.
      I would definitely opt for another option such as good pepper spray. It has worked quite well for mail carriers over the years.
      I would not doubt that these dogs are most-likely, starving. Carrying some dog treats that you can throw to one side and get yourself to safety it also an option. Sounds a bit ridiculous, but I have seen it work more than once while I was in the middle-east.

    So before I just assume I’ll ask. What do you think when you see videos of Cops killing unarmed civilians and non armed struggling suspects. Or beating them with batons and boot stomping them in groups when they are handcuffed. UA-cam has a 30 minute video of clips of police doing stuff like that over the course of one year. Each clip is roughly 10-30 seconds long. That’s a lot of Police Brutality. Also what exactly do you think a Police Officers job is?

    I think a lot of tough dudes would not be slowed down by something as silly as that.

      Graham Wellington there is a video of a NYPD cop rapping a guy who's on the ground in his leg and breaking it, dangling.
      These are no joke.
