    I had also tried Adapalene Gel 0.1% (Differin) for treatment of my KP for a duration of about 5 weeks; not long enough, in my opinion, to say whether it did or didn’t have any effect (the only thing I experienced in that short time were the side effects of redness & irritation). Being that I was 19 at the time and Differin was available by prescription only, I elected to stop using it for my KP as I didn’t want to apply prescription topical Vitamin A on such large areas of my body on a continual basis. Following a month-long “rest” thereafter (to let my irritated arm skin calm down from the Differin), I began using AmLactin lotion; and it’s what I’ve used ever since. I’m speaking about AmLactin because it is the primary product responsible for eradicating my rough & bumpy texture and, more importantly, maintaining my smooth skin all these years. I highly recommend lactic acid if you struggle at all with roughness and/or excessively dry or cracked skin anywhere on your body. This product effectively exfoliates, brightens & hydrates the skin; and evens tone, too. Lactic acid is gentler compared to glycolic acid; that’s also why I prefer it (less potential for irritation and therefore safer for sensitive/reactive skin).

What would be your opinion on differin for the upper thighs and any areas of concern for preventing loose skin? I would cover with a moisturizer of coarse. Hi, Jenn. Always love seeing you. I've resolved my KP (and a myriad of other textural skin issues - and achieved general bodily softness) by buying 50% pure glycolic acid online, putting it in a glass dropper bottle and just putting some in each squirt of whatever body lotion I'm using. That way, I can always adapt it to my needs and it's extraordinarily cheap and long-lasting.

      @@silavie1378 - Heya. I totally get it. I hate feeling greasy. Honestly, you could mix it with anything. It would work in shower gel, but the effect wouldn't be quite as pronounced because you're rising it right off.
      Something I might recommend is perhaps buying a cheap hyaluronic acid or a hyaluronic acid gel in order to help spread the acid without the greasy, occlusive agents in a moisturizer. I have used a hyaluronic acid gel and it is not oily at ALL.
      Or you could try diluting the acid and just applying it neat to your body, obviously experimenting with what strength works for you. You may want to do a higher concentration a couple times a week, a lower concentration every day, y'know, whatever works for you.
      You could even try doing a high strength of pure glycolic acid on the body and rinse off after a few minutes, like a mini peel (The Ordinary's 30% glycolic acid peel is massively popular and I use it on my face once a week for 10-15 minutes).
      The body can withstand more rigorous exfoliation than the face as the skin is thicker and less sensitive.
      Hope I didn't overwhelm you, I just want to give you options so you can find what works for you.

    Avoid standing under the hot water for the entire duration of your shower.
    The hot water strikes directly on your shoulders, back, and upper arms .. depending on your height. Exposing your upper body to constant stream of hot water for 10-20 mins a day can really dry out your skin and cause problems. Keep in mind your limbs are drier than your torso.

    If somebody there day can't find a good product with lactic acid, can just apply to the skin natural yogurt, not only it contains lactic acid, the aminoacids in it also helps to improve the skin barrier and hydrate it. Also it's all natural, for those who prefer. Ah, and you will also get the benefits of the probiotics in it, which also are a gamechanger for skin care.

      Wow, interesting! Thanks for sharing. I imagine applying yogurt to the skin is something of an age-old & time-tested remedy for inflamed skin. I say this because I know yogurt is a rich source of ZINC, which is known to possess anti-inflammatory properties.

      People should also consider that food products arent necessarily formulated for skincare. Skincare products has absorption enhancers for them to work best for the skin, this is why DIY skincare tend to be, more often than not, more irritating to the skin rather than actually formulated products with expected and predictable results. 'Natural' isnt necessarilly better either, Lactic acid can also be produced with just milk and vinegar - but i dont recommend this for obvious reasons, but YMMV and to each their own. Do what you think is best or works for your skin as each reacts differently to certain formulations, but do note that lactic acid, and even sodium lactate, in food products doesnt equate formulated ingredients in skincare products.

      @@hurrstardlikemustard and for that very reason natural products are not quite as harmful like skin care products . lactic acid from youghurt is safe. Ayurveda goes as far as saying that if you cant eat it ,dont put it on skin either .It might be as efficacious or ight need more time to work but it wont be as dangerous either .For eg doctors have only now begun to understand how retinoids kills meibomian glands of eye even if not applied in eye area. And people who have suffered from When something so publicised causes such kind of harm can you imagine the long term effects of the various skin care products which no one has studied over long course ?! I mean even Tret is regarded as safe by most doctors except for dry eye doctors.

    • @hurrstardlikemustard
      @hurrstardlikemustard 2 роки тому

      @@YinYanUzumaki just because you can eat it doesnt mean its going to be effective either. All i said is that food products arent formulated for skincare applications - which is exactly my point. Had there ever been anecdotes of people using any form of yoghurt to treat Keratosis Pilaris with such a high outcome of success just because it has lactic acid ? With no regard of the percentage of the active in the food item, and without a moisturizing base formulation to ensure that the actives even penetrate to exfoliate KP while keeping the skin moisturize ? if it were that simple then there should no longer be any demand for products like Amlactin or Urea based moisturizers - thats goes from 10 to 15% of the formulations respectively - to relieve such skin conditions, we should just used yoghurt to treat KP for the longest time. The OP's comment was a suggestion of an alternative, but just because yoghurt has lactic acid doesnt mean it should be an alternative to actual skincare products that treats certain conditions specifically. Not only does it waste other peoples' time and money, it does nothing to treat the condition and or worse, even aggravate it further, since thats not the proper treatment for said conditions - because the point still remains that food products is not formulated for skincare.

That one is a slow process, it’s been 6m-1yr, but I keep up with it. (On my eyelashes of course) 😃. Idk what it is about you, but I trust your wholesome advice. • @eliftok7877
      @eliftok7877 2 роки тому +2

      Dangerous levels of toxins by Salicylic Acid? To be honest that's the first time I hear of that, could you elaborate?
      Also as far as I know they do not accumulate on the body, Vit A only if you take it internally and unsupervised.

    • @serenityslife4910
      @serenityslife4910 2 роки тому

      @@eliftok7877 I am not sure how to explain it because I’m not a scientist but it’s all transdermal. The amount that you get absorbed it very little day by day. But, can accumulate to dangerous levels. Both with Vitamin A and Salicylic acid. This is why pregnant women are advised not to use them. They as well cause birth defects applied topically even. Please google for the scientific evidence and explanation.

    • @eliftok7877

      @@serenityslife4910 I just did a quick search and found a meta study (in german tho) I found on locally applied Tretinoin states there is no significant higher rate of miscarriage in 600 preganant women, from which 500 used it locally. However, it is not advised to take it during pregnany just as an extra measurement. Which happens often, because you don't want to use anything that's even remotely potentially harmful to the fetus (understandably).
      The resorption rate is too small though and I haven't found any study yet to confirm it accumulates in the body (and it's not like our body doesn't detoxify on it's own)
      But of course the absorption depends on how big the area is, you apply it on
      Systematically I agree though and it should not be taken during pregnancy, especially not the 1. Trimester
      Systemically the half time(? Time until half of the concentration has broken down) is like 2 h, it says, so there is that.
      Regarding BHA or Salicylic acid, I haven't found any data on accumulation besides of plants tbh
      I only know that it irreversibly block COX1 and COX2, which results in some side effects like gastritis or Thrombocytopenia.
      But what your comment made me aware of is the use of it on large areas of the skin and therefore a higher absorption rate. So thanks for that thought.
      If you find any studies about the accumulation, I'd be interested though. I ended my nursing training in 2020 and am now in my 2nd year of medical school im Germany, so there is still much for me to learn about. 😊

    A word of caution. Lactic acid or most (not all) of the AHAs are quite irritating for people with darker skin tone (black, brown). It causes hyperpigmentation which is counter productive. This is definitely true in my case (Brown Asian). So please use some caution. There are gentle exfoliating acids meant for darker skin tones.

    Hi! Can't find sunscreen that's affordable and not full of chemicals. I've even seen that sun "protection" with chemical filters WORSEN skin aging? And what about vit D? If you have sunscreen on your whole body, when will you ever get enough bit D (and other good things that the sun also provides)? I live close to the Arctic Circle and we don't even have sun for about 6 months and the rest of the year is not much either. Must I still cover myself in sunscreen all year round? I don't know if there's maybe UVA coming through the windows in the winter? I try to get some amount of sun in the summer bcs it's important to health, but I hardly get any. In the summer, I usually only use in the face but I haven't really found a sunscreen that I like yet and that don't cost an arm and a leg. Plus that isn't full of chemicals...🤪 Tips please....🌺

Everyone's skin is different, but I remember waiting many, many weeks before any of the side effects even started to really make themselves...pronounced, shall I say. I know it's boring and annoying advice to hear, but you must be patient and just stay consistent with your routine. Waiting is boring, I know.

    I had looked in to this for KP but read numerous reviews that it smells like (maple?) syrup which some say doesn’t dissipate. Do you notice it has an odor and if so, was it something that you got used to? I ended up getting my derm to call in a prescription cream but I would consider this to soften skin if it didn’t smell like syrup. I have a pretty sensitive nose. Hope to hear from you. Thank you Jennifer! You gave me hope in case retinoic acid doesn't work hehe. Hmm.. No wonder Amlactin wasn't effective on me coz I used it for 2weeks and once a day only (tester size). Problem is, these US brands aren't that common in local groceries/malls here. It is sold online but 2x-3x the price. I'll save up for it first and try it again. Until then, I'll continue using my RA 0.025% on my arms and thighs until I finish the tub. I have KP for 30yrs and they say it will diminish in time but in my case it kinda got worse in my late 20s (I started having it on thighs as well). My dad seem to have his gone by 50s. But I dont think I can wait that long haha so I'll definitely try these tips, Jen. Thanks again and have a good day. ❤🤗

      I’ll be 43 next month. I’ve had KP since I was 15. It doesn’t go away IME - you just have to exfoliate the area regularly forever with chemical peels. It does take months to completely get rid of it & if you’re not consistent it will come back. Glycolic acid works well for me & doesn’t irritate my dry, sensitive skin.
