I really appreciate you showing how KP appears on people of color. Most ppl, even doctors describe and show pics of only red raised bumps on white skin which makes it difficult to understand if it is even the same condition..kudos to you!
“Strawberry skin” for us!
Exactly...I'm like if one more doctor describes it just as "red bumps" I'm going to scream. Like billions of people have tan and brown skin. The bumps can be white, red, or brown/black.
Yes I completely agree ! African American and it gets brown to dark brown .
Yes, I keep getting confused because I know I have it but so many videos describe them as red bumps and mine are the same color as the rest of my skin (white)
I’m Hispanic and my bumps appear brown not red so I’m always confused as well. I’m not even that dark either.
I have an extensive case of KP throughout my body. The dermatologist was amazed that it extended beyond the usual places. I was counseled that keeping the skin moisturized was the key to maintenance. If you have a bad case you can buy a high Urea content cream to begin moisturizing your skin at the beginning. For bathing/showers I use Cetaphil Body Wash for Eczema/Dry Skin. Before drying my skin with a bath towel I use a small amount of natural Almond Oil throughout my body. You can also use the Neutrogena Bath Oil or Shea Butter Oil. The key is to pat dry NOT rub down with the bath towel. Once I'm towel dry I slather on a rich body lotion for dry skin, the one never fails is the Nivea Essentially Enriched body lotion. Do this EVERY time you shower AND use some form of lotion during the day... you'll have the KP completely under control. All these products are inexpensive, no harsh perfume scents, & are easy to follow. I've been doing this for almost 17 yrs now. I now get complements on how soft my skin is. People are shocked when I tell them I have the chicken skin condition.
Hi Rosie! Thanks for these amazing tips. I'll try them for sure. I live in India, and the strange thing is that my condition gets worse in summers idk why, because at that due to frequent sweating, the skin remains moisturised throughout the day, but I still want to itch and scratch it more during summers.
And just like you, i have it all over my body too, even on my face, chest, collar bone part, stomach and the usual arms and thighs :(
@@pragyapandey24 I'm happy that the info can help. I'm not a dermatologist but I've studied this condition extensively. It sounds like your skin is dehydrated which is why it itches whether you sweat or if its cold/dry. If your local pharmacy sells prescription strength Urea topical cream without a doctor's prescription & its affordable buy it. Its a super charged cream made to moisturize skin. I suggest to use at night after showering but its up to every person when to use it. The key is that it will take time for your skin to absorb the moisturizers. The more the KP the more months you have to be patient. Another aspect is that you have to use moisturizer lotion every day. I can imagine its difficult to want to use body lotion during India's monsoon weather with it being so humid. 😬 Ask your local pharmacist or beauty cream sales rep to find body lotions that are usable during peak humid monsoon seasons. Find creams that are non-comedogenic for your face/neck which means it doesn't clog pores. In addition, inexpensive reputable sunblock/sunscreen body lotions that have moisturizers mixed in are a great way to use a daily body lotion for the sun exposed areas.
@@rosiegomez5809 I'm also from India
I will follow suggestions
Do you shower every single day or is it better with this condition to shower every other day to not strip the skin? If you don’t shower you still apply lotion?
@@MK-dj5vz I would recommend opting for cold showers ! They aren't pleasant but the benefits of cold exposure, if you want to do some research, is extraordinary. Nr 1 reason: Warm water dries the skin out
I've lived my whole life with KP and was so self-conscious as a kid about it. I hated the appearance of my arms and back and would go out of my way to never wear sleeveless tops and backless/low cut dresses. Using AHA or salicylic acid (testing different products, not using at the same time) has helped minimize the appearance. Nothing has cured my KP, but at the end of the day, learning to love the skin I'm in over time has helped make a difference. Thank you for covering this often overlooked skin concern!
I’m right there with you. ❤️ I hated my KP from childhood to young adulthood, but have finally decided to embrace my skin for what it is and try to serve it well.
How old are you? It usually gets better with age
“It gets better with age” is relative. I’m a full grown adult and the only thing that got better is that it’s no longer on my face. Facial KP is only typical for pediatric cases.
@@laurawilliams9206 For many people it's better after puberty or menopause. But good for you that you still love your skin, you're beautiful
Whats the product's name?
Thank you for this. There’s a lot of us that have KP but are too embarrassed to talk about it.
Or we don’t know what it is... I remember trying to hide it in middle school and people who saw it would say, “What is that?!”, “What happened?!”, or “Are you okay??”
it’s 2022 and there’s no cure because it’s not serious enough? yet there’s things for acne and even wrinkle prevention but we can’t get something to get rid of this bs ? really? lmao. whatever bro.
been so embarrassed about mine, even thought it's not that visible. mostly came from having NO idea what it was, i thought that it was just something wrong with me or from something i was doing wrong
I love that you're active on UA-cam. It's so much easier to follow the people you like on UA-cam than Instagram. IG has become so incredibly busy that you can't follow along because of some weird algorithm. Whereas UA-cam videos appear in chronological order which is perfect.
BTW you make the best videos 💕
I agree. UA-cam is the easiest to follow. IG is very busy! Facebook is even worse.
Agreed! I followed her on IG but I don't think I've seen her on there unless I look for her.
My IG is like, from 5 posts I scroll down, 6 are ad's.... So tiresome! Also youTube makes me feel less harassed 🙊
ARE YOUU FOR REAL? I was just looking for products to help me with KP. I have been struggling with KP for two years. Can’t wear shorts, sleeveless tops or dresses. It really has been affecting my confidence. Thank you for doing this video.
I’ve been dealing with KP for years and what I learned from this video is that I’ve basically been doing EVERYTHING wrong. Thank you!! Also, totally random but that little rainbow in your door frame in the background totally made me smile and feel happy. 🌈

Thank you so much for this as I have it. My Dad had it and I didn't always till I got older.I hate having it but glad I'm not alone on this. I'm so glad you have this YT channel for those of us who can't come to your office but I bet we all want too.
Thank you! Especially going through the mental part of this skin issue. Though this is a benign skin issue it does really put a damper on one's mentality. You have a gracious way of addressing the mental and physical aspects that is very understanding and caring. One goes to their own dermatologist and they ware treated as a number :( You get "it". So many don't.
Thank you ever so much!!
NEVER clicked the subscribe button so fast in my LIFE. This video was genuinely helpful and I can’t wait to see how my skin and life changes after following her advice, thank you so much for sharing your wisdom!
I just would like to thank you!! I have been following you since you did the Allure : Day in the life of a dermatologist segment. You have truly helped me transform my skin care for myself as well as my children. I am 38 years old and feel more comfortable in my own skin then I ever have. You are truly amazing!!
I want to thank Dr. Ekpen for helping me with his herbal medicine that cure my Heart disease completely. I have been living with Heart disease for the past 4years. I was so happy when I found Dr Ekpen blogs. the great herbalist doctor who cure my Heart disease recently.
Does your children have keratosis too?
This was the most helpful video I have ever seen!! Even more helpful than my own dermatologist!! Thank you!!
Dang. I used to scratch and scratch to remove them alllllll through my teens and well into my twenties. SO happy this kind of education and visibility is available now 🙌🏻
She is a true blessing omg never have I ever watched a doctor talk so understandable and normal about topics that interest me. She doesn’t try to just attract attention and by not doing that she just seems to be the most relatable person!!!!
first timer here. love your videos are straight to the point..I don't get bored. thank you for explaining that. feeling blessed to have found you. great job!
I binged watched every single one of the videos that you've posted. THANK YOU. My sweet and smart dermatologist is on maternity leave and her replace is Dolores Umbridge of dermatology so I needed advice since my skin become super sensitive - I'm on isotretoin. One week since I found you and today I'm glowing not red godess - all thanks to you. Dr Shereen you are a treasure 🤍
You’ve literally “cured” mine!!! I’ve always been so insecure about my bumpy skin and always wanted baby soft skin. And now I have it. Thank you so much 😫🥰
What products do you use
So happy for you! Would love it if you could share what products worked for you.
hello, may i ask if the redness is gone too?

Thanks for the all the knowledge
So glad to have found your channel. ✨Your skin is INCREDIBLE✨
This was so informative. Thank you! I would absolutely love to see a similar video on rosacea, especially the managing side of it.
I started developing KP just above my elbows on my forearm and had no idea what it was! Always thought it was just typical dry skin. Thank you for this video, I now understand what it is and how to deal with it haha
I think I’ve tried nearly everything to rid myself of my “permanent goosebumps.” After watching this vid, I may give a go to some of the products mentioned that I have not yet tried. Thanks for covering this condition. I’ve had it for 40 years! 😩😭
I appreciate that you shared products in different price points.
I wait for your new video every Saturday morning! Keep them coming
First I love you. Thank you for educating me and everyone with your videos. 💛
I don't have KP, but I'm really glad that you put out a full blown video on the subject to help people who may be affected.
Finally someone includes a picture of what it looks like on darker skin

Thank you for this Dr Shereene! You are a GOD SENT to us on UA-cam! 😍🙏🏻💞

So happy to see a video dealing with the body today! I would love to see a video specifically addressing feet, hands and especially fingernails. My fingernails peel and shred. What am I doing or not doing? 🙄 Thank you for your weekly “classes” 🤓
Not a dermatologist, just a nail polish addict, but are you using a cuticle oil and the correct sort of nail file?
Oils need to be jojoba based - I just but huge bottles of it and chuck some Vitamin E oil in for good measure - and try a very fine-grit file, not the coarse emery boards or the metal ones we're used to. I find a glass file works best for me but some prefer a decent fine-grit card file.
My mother has always had terribly split, peeling nails and they are infinitely better just from using a glass file - I just have her a cheap freebie one I had to try out, they work just as well. The combo of miniaturization that actually goes into the nail and a fine file that doesn't tear the layers can make a world of difference. Ofc, you may have tried them already but if not it's an easy place to start that will benefit anyway.
Good luck.
You make Saturdays that much better! Can you please talk about psoriasis ?
Your videos are always very helpful, I love how you go to the point. Thank you.
Thank you doctor! This was really helpful :D Best of luck with the 100,000 subs!!
thanks a lot for this video! I have lived my whole life with this thing on my arms and never knew what was it!!! now I will take action, thanks for this valuable content
Great video as always, Dr. Shereene! Can you please make a video about in office procedures for acne scars?
Extremely helpful content as always, have a lovely morning Dr !!
video on spider veins plus procedures pls! thank you so much for ur vids ❤️
I need it desperatly...
Thank you!!!! Thank you!!!! I’ve been waiting for this for so long 🥰
Thanks, some helpful tips. I, too, suffer from KP and have my whole life (I am 37 now.) The thing that I find helps most is dry brushing before I shower-it helps to exfoliate the hair follicles. I also like the amlactin lotion you mentioned and will try some Vitamin A on my bumps, too. Thanks!
You are saving me so much.....I was so insecure about it....I'm feeling so good now..... thanks so much....may God bless you ❤️
So informative and helpful! Thank you so much!! First video I have across about KP that brings everything together in a nutshell. Much love, Nurin
I have been following your suggestions for one week and my legs and upper arms look and feel so much better. I actually wore shorts this week!!!!😀 Thank you
I have it on my face, neck, chest, arms, legs and butt. I’m now in my 30s and there’s no signs of it slowing down. Using exfoliants and retinol on my face and chest have helped, and the only thing I have found that really makes a difference everywhere else is consistently exfoliating 3x/week with lactic acid & keeping a tub of hydrating lotion in the shower - I slather it on before I get out. I’ve had it for so long that I don’t usually even think about it anymore, but I can completely understand the people who are self conscious. I am a teacher and often have kids asking me if I am cold because of all my bumps. 🤷♀️ Oh well, I work with what I’ve been given.

Omg yes!!! I developed this in my forties...man, I just got over acne and now chicken skin.

Paula’s Choice Skin Revealing Body Lotion 10% AHA is my fave but definitely on the pricey side. I grab it when on sale :)
try the brand ameliorate or dermadoctor is more accessible

Been waiting for your new video, so excited! I think I have this condition on chest and arm, not sure though, since it is not really obvious. I learn so much from you, understanding more about my skin, not only just about "what products/brands should I buy?". Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much Dr. Idriss!!! Now I can finally know how to get rid of my KP skin.
Thank you for showing examples with different skin tones!
Shereene, what about a video for men's skincare? My husband has like... it's almost like KP on the face where he shaves..? A shaving/skincare regimen for men would be really interesting!
so fun fact skin is the same on men and women im pretty sure so i think you can just use any existing shaving/skincare regimen she's put up
I have tried many products and the ONLY products that worked to calm KP down for me was - Aveeno Body Wash, Aveeno body lotion and/or Cetaphil Moisturizing lotion. Some spots have actually went away. 👏🏻👏🏻
Do u use washcloth?
OMG I was SO waiting for a video like this. THANK YOU!!!!!
I had to do a double take while looking at the title because in Hawai’i, if we’re referring to goosebumps, we call it chicken skin. But still, thank you for releasing this video 💕
Everyone is talking about KP but no one talks about those dots (not bumps) that show up on legs after waxing!
I know exactly what you mean! I would love some info on that!!
Can you please so dearly talk about close and open comedones and how to reduce them drastically. And how would that skincare routine look like in the long term
Retinoids:)
Or try spironolactone. The only thing that has ever worked for me (I’ve tried everything) is accutane and spiro. I had to stop the spiro though because of the side effects
I think he means accutane. Dr. Dray has utubes on it so take a look lots of info
I had comedones on my chin and retinols reaaaaally helped, they've cleared up completely! She does an excellent video about retinols/retinoids if you want to learn more about them, I use the A313 that she mentions (I also use this for my KP by mixing some into my body lotion and that's cleared right up too, dream ingredient!)
Azelaic acid works pretty nicely on my closed comedones
@@LadyAhro what brand do you use? Or is it prescription?
Thank you for these product recommendations. I’ve been trying everything I can find online but nothing really worked.👏🏻
Really clicked on because I saw darker skin thank you so Much very informative.. You're amazing❤️❤️❤️
This is the only video in which i can relate my skin type. Thank you so much , it was really helpful 🥰
I am desperate for you to tell us how to help clear sebaceous filaments / blackheads on the nose! I know they're just a normal part of the skin but mine truly look awful I swear I'm not just being a drama queen x
Dr. Andrea Dray has utube on it. Generally sacylic is used. Face washes, creams and liquid leave on products like Paulas Choice 2% salycilic acid is good. She recommends many brands so give a listen
@@victoriabernacki5941 0o9
Wash the face regularly, use facial exfoliant, use nose strips 1-2 times per week, reduce the consumption of greasy foods.
I dont know if you have acne but i went on accutane and ever since I dont have any sebaceous filaments anymore. I cant even squeeze anything out and mine used to be awful! Like pepper all over my nose. When my sister was one accutane they actually squeezed themselves out! It was quite wild to see.
This is probably a big no-no but I use floss. I wind it around my fingers and drag it against the bridge of my nose. (!!!) it removes a lot of the black spots without making my skin mad. I do it about twice a week
I can tell you are very knowledgeable about what you do! I really like you! New subscriber👍
I have this on my legs and butt, however, didn't know what it is until now. Thank you for the advice! You're amazing!
I have this on my arms and back for like 8 years now. Been through a lot of dermatologists but nothing seems to work. KP has been affecting my confidence for years now and hopefully this video is the answer to this skin concern. Thank you very much!

I have suffer from KP since I was a teenager and caused me not to use tank tops or any sleeveless blouse. I hate this thing with a PASSION and are incredibly grateful for this video. I always thought it was some sort of acne that comes and goes! Sooo misinformed!

I LOVE those spray-on moisturizers! Vaseline used to make one that you spray on like that, it felt so refreshing!
Such good info. Thank you, you always have great content.
I've been using the glytone body wash and lotion kit for about a month and it's made a huuuge difference on my arms, thighs, and butt. I'm 36, and I've had kp since I was a kid, and this is the only thing that's made that big of a difference. It's a little pricey, but I've been using it almost daily for a month or so and I'm not halfway through the product, so for me it's been worth it.
I love your videos. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!

Thank you so much ! I’m really self conscious about it and this has helped me ❤️
Thank you for the video. I've been working on my arms for a couple of weeks and for the first time in my life I have soft skin. It went down almost completely. I have more economic friendly approach, so to say, but I am following almost everything mentioned in this video. I started DIY coffee peelings, at the beginning every day (highly recommend for the whole body, used up coffee with some oil, I used olive oil or avocado, you can add up some water with glycerin), then I used a toner with BHA and moisturised the skin with a simple urea cream from the pharmacy (30% was supposed to be super moisturising and my skin was, indeed super plump). I love urea, it is a great humectant that in higher percentages acts as an exfoliant. I guess that is it, simple and super soothing for the body. As mentioned, moisturising is the key. Good luck with my chicken skin fellas, it's doable! And coffee scrub is amazing for all over the body, caffeine is energising on the skin and the whole process, apart from being messy, is extremely relaxing.
I've had really good luck with Eucerin Instensive Repair. Smells way better than Amlactin, but it makes you a greaseball for quite a bit. A smooth, moisturized greaseball.
So excited to have this info! Going to grab some of this today! Do you have a favorite body/face lotion for toddlers?
Finally, a dermatologist that talks in depth about KP! My son suffered for most of his teens with severe KP on arms and legs. Tried EVERYTHING under the sun, spent tobs of $$. Finally a dermatologist recommended Trentinoin which in about 2 weeks, disappeared completely. It was a godsend. He is 18 now, more hairy on arms/legs and has diminished to the point he doesnt use it. We did have family history and he was an eczema/allergy child. Amlactin was great for body lotion
Hello! thanks for sharing :) how did he use the tretinoin?
I spent $100 going to a dermatologist office and got an amlactin cream that neither worked nor felt good. I'd say this video worth at least 500 bucks for all these valuable information.
Differin works for me- makes the backs of my arms smooth
So much love from Manila! ❤❤❤
Yes!! Arnica! It’s the only thing I found in the past that had an almost immediate effect! It didn’t get rid of it, I wasn’t using it in combination with a chemical exfoliant (which I will from now on) but it MASSIVELY helped with the appearance! I’ve got a CeraVe salicylic acid cleanser I use on my face anyway so now I’ll use that with the Arnica and a moisturiser and I’m now very hopeful that this will work! Thank you 😊
