I thought white skin was prone to this, I rarely saw it on Mediterranean or Black skin, do you have much melatonin in your skin? And yes it looks like goosebumps in the cold!
I was really shy about it when I was little and I remember I met a girl who leaned in and whispered "I have that on my arms too" as if she found an ally, and I was so embarrassed for having it acknowledged in public (even if ever so quietly) that I turned beet red and walked away. I hope she didn't take it too personally.
Since I watched this video I started using the ingredients they recommended and after a few weeks I've started to really see some improvement. I shower and use an exfoliating scrub and scrubber, then I use the same face wash (clean and clear blackhead wash which has salicylic acid) on my arms and legs. I wash off and after the shower I put a low strength retinol all over my arms and legs, then I use Gold Bond foot cream (because the second ingredient is Urea and I think it works really well) on my arms. It's a bit more expensive, so I only use it on my arms because I don't really show my legs. So on my legs I just use whatever lotion I want. I've been doing this for a couple months and it's been getting better. But you have to be consistent.
@@happiness4908 Homeopathy is total quackery. Obviously Salicylic Acid and Urea are different substances. They can lead to similar results so you can use either in a lotion or other leave on. From the brands listed above as examples NOT in homeopathic form which is total rubbish.
Just fyi: People with brown or black skin can have keratosis pilaris as well and it does not appear as red bumps. On dark skin, the bumps can be a darker shade of brown than the overall skin tone OR on very dark skin, the bumps can be the same color as the skin. It's important to show photos representative of different skin tones so people can have a better idea of what these conditions look like and know how to describe the issues to their doctors.
Yup. I am black but light skinned and mine all looks like dark brown bumps on the backs of my arms and on my legs. Products designed for white people often don't work for black people and it isn't even major to me so I just leave it alone.
Same! I am was like, what. This was after the doctor had to look up what it was. I was young when they told me, and I sweat too much. I am like, that’s not going to happen.
I have had doctors tell me it is just dry skin. I have tried countless creams.. kp is annoying! I grew up very, very self conscious about it. Friends would make fun, you know.. im sure.
@@shysky3239 moisturizing alone will not solve the problem. If you use a lotion with urea like they said (I recommend Gold Bond foot lotion) it will make the bumps softer, but it won't solve the underlying cause or the redness, which is the part that makes most people self-conscious about their skin
I’ve had keratosis palaris my whole life and I’ve just learned to accept that I have bumpy skin. I remember asking my mom when I was very young why my skin was bumpy and she said the doctor told her it was just clogged hair pores and there was nothing we could do about it. I’m not sure I’ve ever met someone with it before but this video is so reassuring. This channel taught me what the condition is actually called and the fact that it’s genetic and incurable. I may give some of these products a try but honestly I feel like a weight has been lifted, knowing that it’s not my fault. Knowing that it’s not a lack of hygiene or something I’m doing to cause it. Thank you so much for that.
Yeah, actually I'm grateful for having this and blackheads, i had a ton of blackheads and a lot of people were telling me i lacked hygiene they advised me to clean my skin and squeeze them which only led to scars, darkening of the area, that made me feel disgusting and sad, even my siblings took a part in this. But now I'm very informed, it's just genetics so i can now INFORM others helping them not spread misinformation
Some foods seems to have association with chicken skin. Gluten, sugar, dairy, anything that is known to Couse inflammation in the body. If you have digestive issues too they often show up as skin problems too.
@@tashaax1993xanimalloverx yes I know, I think what I was trying to say was that I’ve never actually met anyone else with KP so I that is the only info I had to go on for all those years.
KP is one of my biggest insecurities honestly. I hate that my arms are red more than the actual bumps. I'm so glad you guys made a video about it. I'll be trying this to help it.
Extra virgin cod liver oil supplement. It’s from a vitamin A deficiency. Emphasis on the extra virgin. Exfoliate with the rough bath gloves and put A &D at bed time. Those 3 things. Send me a before and after. I’ve been an esthetician for 10 years and I’ve helped many with KP.
I can’t believe it took me 22 years to find out that this was something that is not only common but you can also treat it?!?!!! I just thought I was getting acne cause I’m sweaty
I was the same way for years, then somewhere around 30’s I realized my value is not defined by my flaws. Be confident, you’re beautiful, and nobody is thinking less about you because your skin isn’t perfect. Nobody’s skin is perfect.
I LOVE that you educate before giving product recommendations. That's what differentiates your channel from the million other product review/recommendation channels out there. Please keep it up!
I've been growing up with KP without knowing what it was. It really developed on my legs when I hit puberty and started to appear on my arms in my early 20s, too, and as a girl, it really affected my self-esteem since I felt and honesty still feel like I can't wear anything short because of all these red bumps. I'm 26 now. I'm a rather pale person, too, so they really stick out... In the last 10 years I've been to several dermatologists and none could help me, telling me it's hormonal, it's my skin being irritated by jeans, it's me being overweight (even though, I only got like 10kg extra since I have an underactive thyroid), etc. So, your video getting randomly recommended to me, was and is a real life saver for me. Finally, I know and understand what causes my skin to look like this. And I just wanted to say you thank you so so so so SO much!!
I just had to reach out and say I struggle too! I’m 27 and I always heard it was supposed to suppress in our adult years. My arms are okay. My legs are BAD! My aunt had the same thing (queue the genetics) and she got laser and it went away completely. And hers were so bad that they weren’t red, they were BLACK! Her hairs were just so dark. These Drs are correct, but it’s so exhausting having to use so many products to keep a continuous result. They work. But I’m lazy and I can’t seem to keep up. That’s my main problem with KP. It’s incurable so it’s a lifelong stress of being consistent. Anyway, I only said anything to make another sufferer of KP to feel like they aren’t alone ❤️
I'm 30 and I really feel you. My legs and arms are bad and my skin is pale too. And as the 2 doctors said my kp overlaps with an atopic skin. It's just so annoying and bad looking...
“It bugs the heck out of some people” I grew up with the condition. It “bothered the heck out of me” because my mother and other family and friends seemed to have perfectly smooth skin on their arms, yet I had these weird bumps. Like why is it here? Clearly it’s not normal if others around me don’t seem to have it. I didn’t like rubbing my arms only to feel those bumps and not the smoothness I thought should have been there.
I'm 53. I had this since I was about 15 years old and it disappeared about one month after giving up dairy 4 years ago. I had accepted that it would be there for life. It hasn't returned.
@@JoeRivermanSongwriter wow! I’ve heard that eliminating dairy can help with acne, but I didn’t think it could help with KP. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Hopefully thats all the bad genes them that I have :p.
Im here to share with u guys how i deal with kp. After seeing this video i asked my dermatologist and now its been 1 week since i started this routine. But i really saw a difference within this week. My skin is smoother and rhe kp is reducing lil by little. My routine for the night : -shower with cerave oil foaming cleanser ( my dermatologist said no frgrance or harsh chemicals or soap on skin) -i apply Centaurea urea30 ( dermatologist said that i have to go with 30 and not less to improve my condition ) - i apply a really thic moisturizer called Newderm ( after checking the ingredients its similar to Cerave moisturizer cream but even better it had shea butter and niacinamide - for my legs i apply a Cerave Sa cream Morning routine : -i apply Cerave sa cream all over my body then apply a body sunscreen. My skin type is dry. If u have oily skin its better to have Cerave lotion instead of cream
update : i found another moisturizer called illiyoon its really similar to newderm moisturizer, its really thick and moisturizing. my kp is pretty gone on my legs, sadly on my arms its still showing, not as much as it was before but not a big improvement
I hate that there's no cure for this stupid condition tbh. I can use all the products and get it to go away, but it always comes back as soon as you stop. Drives me batshit.

I’ve had severe KP since I hit puberty (7 years old)… Honestly throughout most of my life, I’ve been so self conscious and tried many treatments to reduce my KP; however, the outcomes were always unsuccessful! Tbh, I’ve always been scared to be in relationships because of my skin condition due to fear of rejection.. Fast forward to 2017, I finally committed to be in a relationship but I still didn’t reveal to my bf that I had KP until 1 year into our relo.. Once I told him he actually started laughing because he thought it was ridiculous of me to be scared of revealing my skin condition to him.. He told me that my KP didn’t make me any different and that it was my unique feature. That statement right there is what boosted my self confidence. Now-a-days I’ve learnt to live with my KP without giving a damn what other people think lol.. I’m so glad to have my bf in my life who appreciates me for who I am all throughout! 😊..
My husband would always comment to me that the softest part of my skin was my inner thighs, that’s the only place I didn’t have KP, l was 23 at that time, I was so self conscious about my skin for over 40 years until I accidentally ran into dr Dray video on KP 3 years ago, she recommended cream which changed my skin to baby soft all over my body, my husband now says he can’t believe how soft my skin is at age 60, I think I was the person who asked you to do a video about KP, thank you so much, I had tears in my eyes watching this, because so many people have it, hopefully they will take your recommendations, it has changed my life😌

I have been plagued with this my entire 53 years. I've tried the scrubs creams(including cera-ve, etc etc. Coconut oil was the only topical that ever helped at all, but still didn't get rid of it. When covid hit I began taking the recommended zinc supplement, daily. My KP cleared up completely, for the first time ever. I didn't realize, at first, why my skin was so smooth and clear. It wasn't until I ran out of zinc for a couple weeks, and the bumps began to reappear, that I wondered if that was what had been making the difference in my skin. I got back on the zinc and it cleared right back up. I will take zinc for the rest of my life!
Fellow MD here (pediatrician), love your style and ease in explaining medical concepts. I also spend a lot of time addressing KP in my patients (hard for parents to often see in little ones expected to have flawless baby skin, they always assume it’s “allergic” and expect a work up.). I find addressing “why” is the key to understanding the “what” we do next. You guys are great! Keep up the great work ☺️
They said it appears on adults and teenagers but my 2 year old has had KP for at least 6m now. Being a pediatrician, do you suggest following their advice for my 2yr old?
Agreed. Urgent care/ER pediatric NP here. Similar experiences with it--in that parents assume it's allergic in nature. This video will be in my recommendations for them. Thanks guys!
I sprinkle a little baking soda on a soapy washcloth and scrub my arms in a circular motion for smooth skin. Scrubbing gently and for longer is better than scrubbing hard and fast. I always rinse well. I’ve had KP my whole life, and this is what finally gave me the results I was looking for. Been using this method for years, and I love my skin now. Hope this helps someone.
I also noticed certain foods seem to help me, I wish the video might have suggested dietary advice instead of (somewhat expensive) products to purchase.
I remember when it all started for me... I was in 10th grade and wearing shorts, a classmate said oh you have goosebumps and I looked at my thighs and was like no that's just how my skin is. It was awkward. Nothing came of it bc it didn't cause any medical harm. I eventually learned it was something about the hair follicle and just they way my skin is. I had a best friend who was into tanning/ cared about having "nice skin" and I was so pale with red bumpy skin 🙁 I never struggled with acne but always wished I had 'clear' skin on my legs. 🤷🏻♀️ and my sister has psoriasis. I would get a random single red spot of it every few years but never broke out. Neither of us have eczema. My dad had KP. And for what's it worth. I appreciate the info you two share!! I'm all about the why and how. 👍
Sooo many times I've heard the "you've got goosebumps!" (Backs of upper arms) and I eventually just started saying "yeah I know" rather than try to explain. I'm well past grown now, and yes, it has "gone away" entirely. But I've passed it on to my children, 2 of which have also "outgrown" it as adults, but my 14 yo son is at the peak of it now. He's very patient in going through the motions of exfoliate, moisturize, rinse, repeat, etc. (at his inquiry and request) Side note; I developed psoriasis about 2 years ago, never thought about the two being related, but thinking it has to be, with the skin buildup etc. Suggestions are welcome, I want to scratch my foot off with a wire grill brush somedays 😬
You guys explaining the - why - and not just say: "use it because I say so" is actually the main reason why I now watch YOU before trying out things I clearly know nothing about. Why bother losing money in mistakes that could potentially harm me when I can sit, relax and enjoy a very perfect skincare class (learning, honesty & humor! Perfect combination!), knowing I will then take a much better decision on what to try or not. You really are amazing teachers, keep the whys coming! (it is totally my favorite word I❤️WHYS!) 👍🏼👍🏼 😁
I had pretty bad KP on my arms and i figured out that I was allergic to dairy and I cut it out and my KP got so much better. It genuinely cleared up like 80%
Yup! Same with me. And oddly, I cut out refined sugars (all of it, including sodas- it was so hard) and that helped with my KP on my arms as well as skin discolouration and itching
I started taking an over the counter antiviral supplement and mine got 95% better. I’m thinking the “genetic” component may be environmentally influenced (by triggers such as foods and viruses in our case).
I have this, and I went on a gluten free diet to improve my bowels, funny thing is it improved my Keratosis Polaris. I’ve been on a gluten free diet now for about 2 months and it’s really improved my skin. My arms are very smooth, I only have bumps on a small part of my arms now. It’s amazing.
My husband & three kids all have this skin problem. I've gone GF for mainly gut issues for me & recently I've had my oldest kid go GF now his bumps are clearing up. I was bummed when I noticed my baby that's barely over a year an a half started to get them but since my oldest just started seeing improvements we knew it was most likely the gluten an his are starting to clear up too.
My teenager had the same experience. She just did the gluten free diet for about a month and it sort of reset things. The bumps are flat now, but there is still some redness.
Might try taking it a step further and reducing all carbohydrates particularly simple carbs like sugars and starches. I’ve heard that could be the cause of the bumps.
I have a mild case of Psoriasis that started about 3 years ago and Keratosis Pilaris for as long as I can remember. I went to Thailand last year for 3 weeks and my KP showed a big improvement. My wife pointed out that our diet change while on vacation was probably the biggest difference. We found that Thai cooking is for the most part naturally gluten-free; they use rice, tapioca and coconut instead of wheat. Took us a bit to get into it this year, but we've been on a gluten-free diet for 2 months, and my KP has nearly disappeared. It's so difficult because I love fresh bread, pizza and pastries, but if you have KP, I'd recommend trying a gluten-free diet.
21 years using products and my dermatologist not having an idea what I had, and I started using AmLactin from a video on your tik Tok and it has HAS HELPED so much !!!! :)
My dad had KP, so do I and my siblings. What I have noticed is when you live in a warmer weather with humidity it heals naturally but, it gets worse in cold and dry climate areas. I have lived with KP for almost 30 years of my life and it has completely healed on my arms, it's still there on my thighs and calves but definitely much less.
I was just recently diagnosed with KP by a dermatologist and I live in Florida 😭😭 i don’t think it heals in warmer weather because mine is still really bad
That's crazy, mine gets horrible with the humidity. Cooler weather helps soo much cause I don't sweat out the moisturizers so it's easier to maintain the skin hydrated. And I am saying this because I like in Puerto Rico. Summer humidity doesn't treat KP nicely :/
I live in Florida and have KP. The weather has never made any difference on it. To treat my KP, I like to use an inexpensive exfoliating body wash, such as Amazon Basics Clarifying Pink Grape Fruit Body Wash, as it contains 2% salycilic acid (a beta hydroxy acid that functions as a keratolytic agent and helps keep pores clear), with an exfoliating cloth/mitt to buff the skin (this action is known as mechanical exfoliation) and also the regular use of Alpha Skin Care Renewal Body Lotion, as it contains 12% glycolic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid that promotes cell turnover), to soften the bumps. Applying the lotion immediately after showering at night is best. ⚠️ But one con of using an exfoliating lotion is that it makes the skin more vurnerable to the sun and one must use sunblock and avoid the sun like the plague.
Fun fact: I live in the UK and our CeraVe SA has 10% urea rather than glycerin as the second ingredient. It is amazing against KP (I suffer from it on my upper arms). Such a shame that it is not sold in the same format elsewhere because it contains lactic and salicylic acid, urea and ceremides.
I started using it about a year ago after my KP migrated from just my upper arms to all over my arms. My Mum being a typical Mum waited until we were all out in public to ask why I had a bad rash, I had tried the soap and glory moisturiser and the Pixi wash and moisturiser so when I saw Cerave recommended I bought it and it has made a huge difference. I put the wash on and leave it for a couple of minutes before using a scrub cloth over it. It got a bit worse this winter but Cerave is a game changer. I used to get such itchy skin as well especially in summer and didn't last summer. I wonder why the US one isn't the same?
I've contacted Cerave to see why they don't sell higher strengths like the Psoriasis specific one they mentioned in the UK! :( It's such a shame we don't get much of a choice here. Same with retinols and lash serums. They won't approve them because of risk of reactions and the % of ingredients here. But they work better in higher doses as long as it's monitored and used with the right SPF.
You know ive had KP over my entire body (except oddly my face) my entire life and I just started researching how to treat it. I started using the Cerave psoriasis cleanser and the Cerave psoriasis moisturizer along with an "ingrown hair/KP" brush and in just two weeks my skin feels absolutely amazing, ive never been able to run my hands on my skin and not "catch" on the bumps. Now my skin feels like butter! And the spots have visibly improved! Still a long way to go but im planning on adding amlactin to my routine!
As a medical esthetics and formulation student, my favorite part of your videos is the science behind the condition! I want to hear the Latin name, the translation, the images of the condition, the ingredients that help, and of course, product recommendations. I’m here for it all.
They're actually interesting. Try to pop it like a zit lightly, then grab the little white tip with tweezer and you'll pull out a super fine twisted hair haha

I literally came across this in TikTok and I’m so happy I did and yes I did watch the whole thing haha
You’re tiktok page is amazing lol and honestly thank you so much for breaking this down and explaining to us what kp is and why it’s formed and how to treat it. I use that weekly and amlactin 3 times on different days. And I love the Nivea in shower moisturizer daily to keep everything soft. I find my skin is way less red if I include some gentle physical exfoliation on the regular. The amlactin totally smells weird though, like plain yogurt.
KP is somewhat of an insecurity for me once when someone touched my arms they said “eww what’s wrong with your arms?!” Me, my brother and dad all have it and it sucks.
People can be so rude. There is nothing "eww" about your arms! But I know it can suck :( It can get better in appearance, especially with the suggestions in the video. Just using a moisturizer after a loofah really helps, too. Don't listen to those negative people, a person that would voice such a comment doesn't have a very good "be nice and good to others" meter.
I grew up in Canada and had it on my arms and thighs. Moved to Florida as an adult and it pretty much went away. I suspect that Vitamin D deficiency may exacerbate it. Also changed to a plant based diet so that may have helped too.
Mine got a lot better when I wore short sleeves and went outside. Also using salicylic acid soap, physically exfoliating, moisturizing with CeraVe and ammonium lactate lotion really helped.
I LOVE that you include the why's in your videos! I mean, that's the fun part, isn't it 😅 I'm always searching for the "why" for a greater understanding. In everything!! Thank you guys for all the knowledge 🥰
I have had this my entire life or ever since I can remember and i’ve never known what it was. I’ve been to the doctors many times and never got answers i’m shook omg
i grew up with this being a HUGE issue during teen years and as a younger adult. these days at 27 some of the bumps remain, but the redness isn't really there anymore thankfully. idk if it's because my diet has changed over time, or if it's just something i was able to grow out of. either way i am greatful for this to be far less noticeable in my current life
Omg we’re on a same boat..I finally knew it when I met a dermatologist..as this while I though it was acne no wonder i tried a lot of acne shower cream but it doesn’t work at all..but the crave sa cream also doesn’t really work for me
I was diagnosed about 15 years ago so I knew what it was, my mum turned to me a few weeks ago (she's 62) and said "I just realised I have a skin condition that's genetic!" No shit Sherlock, where did I get it from!!??
@@MelbournesEast Ehhhh, the “go gluten free” cure-all that gets thrown around a lot just doesn’t work for everyone. It’s possible you had a sensitivity or allergy to wheat, and that’s why quitting gluten helped you.

I’m pretty thankful to my mom for taking care of my extremely bad KP for as long as I remember. It was definitely a lot of effort as she would have to scrub and try new creams on me to see what would work. And it was definitely difficult cause i was an rambunctious toddler. Now I have a routine of my own, I use the first aid beauty bump eraser scrub twice a week and in between I’d use a Korean exfoliating glove. Works great since I’m not letting the build get really bad often.
I appreciate the first seven minutes of explanation. As a medical student I think is really great the way you summarize the pathophysiology and best evidence of treatment, wish you guys were my dermatology professors kkkkk
This topic is so interesting... I study osteopathy and sometimes I am observing people who have KP (me included). I’ve got the impression that it’s not only the skin that is causing the problem but has something to do with the blood flow, the nerves, hormones and sensitivity to environmental pollutants as well. Sounds weird, but I feel like it’s not only a skin condition 🥴 great video, you explain the condition so well!
As weird as this sounds, mine always seems to get better with sun exposure. If I lay out and tan during the summer, I have always notice a decrease in the amount bumps. It’s not a one and done kind of thing, but over the summer the bumps seem to lessen. And then winter comes and it’s all back.
I've noticed my kp is the most minimal when I'm right at, or just after, ovulation. In my case it definitely looks reactive to hormones, I agree with your theory. I've ruled out allergens and tried most recommended products with no change. Sun exposure does also help mine, and I have circulation issues so blood flow may also be a factor - I'm still experimenting with massages. I think you're on to something!
@@moomonst3r853 Thanks so much for sharing, this seems to happen to many women. When the oestrogen increases during and after ovulation, KP tends to worsen. As you said, sun exposure can be helpful, also massaging with a certain brush. Cold showers increase blood flow too, so if that’s something you could stand, go for it 😊 Also, a vegan diet could definitely help, milk products are full of hormones that are not meant to be in our body. Meat is full of antibiotics that can cause skin reactions. Sugar tends to worsen KP too, and can really cause EXTREME break-outs. Maybe that can help, too. 😊
@@Ellael98 Thanks for that! I've had problems with estrogen dominance, so it's interesting there can be a connection with kp. Cutting out meat and dairy unfortunately didn't help me, but you've given me some great ideas about how my diet may still be affecting my estrogen. I'll look into it. Thanks for your tips :)
This was incredibly informative and helpful! I have KP and I've been using Amlactin for a year and have noticed a HUGE difference in my skin. My skin has never been so soft in my life! First few applications, I didn’t have any reaction but then Ive started to get red, irritated and itchy bumps here and there whenever I lather it on. Idk if I’m getting allergy or just over exfoliating symptoms. If anyone have the same problem please help me out 😢

I recently found out KP is caused by hyperinsulinemia. I changed my diet, get more sun and the condition is healing itself without all of these products. And my A1c is improving.
Thank you so much for discussing this issue. When I first noticed the standard KP red bumps all over my thighs, I thought I was having an allergic reaction to a new product or something. I ended up figuring out the KP diagnosis myself after a lot of elimination. At a physical with my doctor, he asked if I knew I had a skin condition - I'm like, "What? KP? Yeah, I've been treating that by myself forever." And after that, I think he stole my OTC ideas for products to tackle KP when used consistently. Lotions and creams in the foot aisle often contain decent percentages of urea and other acids so they are a cheap alternative to the "Rough and Bumpy Skin" products being sold with an upcharge. Gently exfoliate manually maybe 1-2 times a week... don't upset your skin any more than it already is. And always stay hydrated - use a lotion that doesn't irritate your skin (Like ones with fragrance really bother me) and provides excellent moisture retention so your skin can rest. This is what helped me - if these tips aren't up your alley...sorry, I reckon.
Do you have any recommendation for someone who has scarring from this condition? None of my doctors ever really took it seriously when I was in my younger days and my mom never took me to a skin doctor. I'm 36 now but had a bad habit of treating them like blemishes and would pick at them unconsciously.
So the scarring you have from that is the same as any other scarring, but likely with excess keratin as well. So what I'd recommend as someone who did the same thing and also has surgical scars, is the products they mentioned, but adding two super key ingredients to reducing the appearance of scars. zinc oxide - yes, like the white stuff you've seen lifeguards wear on their noses in movies for sunscreen, as it works as that as well. The second is external vitamin C serums, however you can find it, creams, lotions, etc. Serums are most effective and much less likely to cause irritation or other issues. Generally, you want to get the most pure forms of either or both of these for best results. There's also scar creams for top surgery scars available (trans-masculine gender affirming surgery of double mastectomy) that because top surgery scars are so intense, will work wonders on smaller scars. Hope this helps!
The biggest insecurity I had with it was everyone constantly asked if I had bug bites. I started to pick them and try to pop them thinking they were bumps causing them to be inflamed and swelled. It doesn't bother me as much as it did when it was younger.
When you try to pop them does anything come out? Just wondering because I’m pretty sure I have KP but a lot of times I can squeeze them with little tweezers and something will come out but they take FOREVER to heal. Are yours like that? I’m trying to figure out if I have something different.
@@leslieschreck8826 I just randomly came across your comment and feel like I have to answer! When I pop mine stuff does come out usually and then a little blood, and it takes FOREVER to heal. I feel like i’ve had some for years that still haven’t healed. They scar really bad and honestly i’ve come to realize that scarring makes it look worse than if you don’t pop them. It’s super frustrating😓
I started out just having constant eczema everywhere on my body when I was little and as I grew older my rashes kept changing and becoming more severe. My rashes went from eczema, psoriasis, staph infection, and something that my dermatologist and other skin cancer facilities couldn’t pinpoint what it was but my face was swollen, oozing, infected and the top layer of my skin just cracked off and I had to undergo several antibiotics for 2 months and then cream for a year just to get it to go away. Since I was ten I have felt with kp and the only thing that helps with redness and roughness is black African soap scrub, retinol cream, and then a sensitive skin moisturizer once the retinol dries. Sensitive skin is rough and people will make fun and stare but you will get through it and learn to love yourself! Stay positive and stay strong.
I’ve been using the Cerave SA cream and the KP exfoliating scrub for about 2 years and it has been working, but it works slowly (but surely). Also, Dr. Eric Berg said one of the other reasons why keratosis Pilaris happens is because of a lack of absorption of vitamin A and also because you need more Omega-3s in your diet so he recommends to take cod liver oil (which you can buy from Amazon) to take care of yourself from the inside as well :)
My son is 17 it kills his self-esteem. And mine as well. I can’t wear tank tops or anything that shows my arms it’s embarrassing it looks horrible. And on top of that I have psoriasis
I definitely didn’t forward video to products. You don’t know how much this means to me and finally I got some answers. Thank you for the educational background, many people told me there’s no solution but this really helped so thank You!!!
My whole family has KP for literal generations. We just call it, the Family Bumps. The newest generation, my grandkids have it. Even a bi-racial nephew didn't escape it. The only good thing is it seems to get better as we age. Thanks for the additional information that may help.
I care about the why behind pathology and treatment! I appreciate how thorough you guys are. I have recently discovered your channel, and I love it! Could you do a video on Hidradenitis suppurativa?
when i was younger i always wondered why my arms weren’t smooth and when i found out i had kp i got so upset bc i thought i’d just look like this forever 😩🙏
My arms are my biggest insecurities ever. I hate them so much and to cope with it I pick at my arms making it worse and leaving scars. Thank you for making this!
I love the why! Thanks for breaking it down and starting with what the problem is, main ingredients and the percentages, and how to use them properly and then the product recommendations!
I'm 53. I had this on my upper arms since I was about 15 years old and it disappeared about one month after giving up dairy 4 years ago. I had accepted that it would be there for life. It hasn't returned.
First time that I'm not mad at my phone about spying on me, this recommended was on point Didn't even know what it was actually called, now I atleast know the necessary
I grew up with it, and got rid of it by taking omega 3 supplements. While it is genetic, it is tied to essential fatty acid deficiency. Also, eating gluten free has really helped.
Woah I think you might be right about omega-3 ! Mine have disappeared too by now and I didn't realize that as I mostly get them on the back of my arms. I had those bumps for most my life.
I have been doing a BHA and AHA moisturizing cream on my arms before bed. I was using a plain moisturizer before bed already, so just switching to one specific to help bumpy skin was so easy and made SUCH A DIFFERENCE. I am on week three-ish of applying every night before bed and I am so pleased with my results.
For me these things did it (I tried these for other health related reasons and it also worked with my skin): - cut gluten & milk from my diet (small amounts are ok) - apply (organic!) almond, jojoba or red palm oil after showering - plus supplements (not everything at once): omega 3 (with epa, dha), zinc, iron, b vitamins, magnesium(citrate)&calcium(citrate), protein shakes (pea, without sweeteners or sugar substitutes, milk protein may cause problems), vitamin d, natto, - get enough potassium from food (potatoes, pumpkin, beans), if vegetables are cooked and the water is discarded, most of the potassium is discarded too
I recently developed KP as an adult in my 30s-never had this issue as a teenager or in my 20s so it’s been a little bit of a learning curve. Went searching your channel and found this extremely helpful and informative video! Thank you so much for sharing this!
I have this and I really don’t care about it being on my arms and legs but I absolutely cannot stand that it’s on my cheeks. People ask me what’s wrong with my face and give me acne advice when it’s not even acne! It drives my crazy. It wouldn’t be so bad if random people didn’t just point it out to me like I don’t know what my own face looks like.
Yep! I cut out bread/wheat in general for a week once a year and it starts going away at the end of the week. As soon as the week is over, I load up on carbs and it's like "hey girllllll, miss u ❤"
nothing like growing up with KP and having people continuously ask you "why do your arms look like that?!"
or trying to pop them b/c they think they're pimples =/
“ Are you cold?”
I get this so often ,so i stopped wearing sleeveless
I thought white skin was prone to this, I rarely saw it on Mediterranean or Black skin, do you have much melatonin in your skin? And yes it looks like goosebumps in the cold!
I was really shy about it when I was little and I remember I met a girl who leaned in and whispered "I have that on my arms too" as if she found an ally, and I was so embarrassed for having it acknowledged in public (even if ever so quietly) that I turned beet red and walked away. I hope she didn't take it too personally.
your tiktok popped up on my fyp and i’m so thankful i found this because KP is my biggest insecurity.

Hey i wanted to ask you that there is a medicine in homoeopathic name- salicylic acid and urea ,is it the same ? Please help me here.
DON'T GO IN SUN W LACTIC ACID!!!!! AND IT DOESNT WORK FOR THIS!!!!
SALICYLIC ACID
@@happiness4908 Homeopathy is total quackery. Obviously Salicylic Acid and Urea are different substances. They can lead to similar results so you can use either in a lotion or other leave on. From the brands listed above as examples NOT in homeopathic form which is total rubbish.
Avoid scrubs if possible, easy to damage skin. Especially when other less invasive methods are effective.
THANK YOU!
Unfortunately most beauty/skin care products and treatments are designed and catered for those with fair skin.
RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!
Yup. I am black but light skinned and mine all looks like dark brown bumps on the backs of my arms and on my legs. Products designed for white people often don't work for black people and it isn't even major to me so I just leave it alone.
Thanks! Skin conditions look so different on darker skin! It can lead to misdiagnosis for a lot of us!

Absolutely! How can you get yourself good products if you don't know what's going on!
“I love the why” so to be where I started my research 🧐
I think hormones do play a part in it…here after having a baby and mine got so much worse!
@@kelsmckenjack Hormones play a part in everything whether we like it or not xd!

I grew up with the condition.

-i apply Centaurea urea30 ( dermatologist said that i have to go with 30 and not less to improve my condition )
- i apply a really thic moisturizer called Newderm ( after checking the ingredients its similar to Cerave moisturizer cream but even better it had shea butter and niacinamide
- for my legs i apply a Cerave Sa cream
Morning routine :
-i apply Cerave sa cream all over my body then apply a body sunscreen.

(at his inquiry and request)
Side note; I developed psoriasis about 2 years ago, never thought about the two being related, but thinking it has to be, with the skin buildup etc.
It genuinely cleared up like 80%
Same with me, but gluten.
How did you found out that you are allergic to dairy? My KP came when I was like 16-17.
:o
Ppl with seriosis also see results on a gluten free diet, it will almost completely dissappear.
As a pharmacist, I also care about and actually enjoy the "why" part 🎉😊
What kind of products do you suggest for keratosis pilaris? Cuz imma go to the pharmacy tomorrow
The part explaining "why" is actually the most precious part to us as well, so keep going, it's perfect❤
Yes, mine gets better in the summer as well. Would love for it to be healed all year around though.
I'm in the UK and for me it gets worse in Summer and is almost invisible in Autumn/Winter 🤷🏼♀️
Thank you for this!! I am in the UK and so will have a look for this.
Do you have to continue using the product to retain results?
As a medical esthetics and formulation student, my favorite part of your videos is the science behind the condition! I want to hear the Latin name, the translation, the images of the condition, the ingredients that help, and of course, product recommendations. I’m here for it all.
The amount of times people have been like “Oh, you have chicken skin. You should moisturize more often.” 🙄 If they only knew. Lol
Same! Or I get " oh , you have a rash!". I hate when people bring attention to it 😳
Or when you get told to exfoliate 🥲
They're actually interesting. Try to pop it like a zit lightly, then grab the little white tip with tweezer and you'll pull out a super fine twisted hair haha
My dad said “you should get outside and sweat more” cause that’s how that works. 🙄
@@katiejohnson2642 listen to your dad, when I sweat a lot from the gym it helps with my issues. It's good to get the skin pushing water & salt out sometimes!
I’ve been so insecure of this my entire life and I could never figure out what it was because when you google it this isn’t something that pops up for me or pictures so I could never match it to any pictures. I literally came across this in TikTok and I’m so happy I did and yes I did watch the whole thing haha
Your videos have a great combination of solid medical information and dorky humor. Thanks for creating them!
You’re tiktok page is amazing lol and honestly thank you so much for breaking this down and explaining to us what kp is and why it’s formed and how to treat it. Honestly people would pay hundreds to just get it checked by a dermatologist and here you are trying to help people for free! I appreciate it so much! Thank you ♥️
the KP scrub from first aid beauty has helped mine so much😩 highly recommend
YES! My new go to.
I use that weekly and amlactin 3 times on different days. And I love the Nivea in shower moisturizer daily to keep everything soft. I find my skin is way less red if I include some gentle physical exfoliation on the regular. The amlactin totally smells weird though, like plain yogurt.
@@tabathapoelstra i will look into that thank u for the suggestion! gentle physical exfoliation once a week helps mine too
How many times a week do you use it?
@@lsg119 I use it every time I shower so like 4 times a week. I try to shower every second day so I don't lose all my natural oils
KP is somewhat of an insecurity for me once when someone touched my arms they said “eww what’s wrong with your arms?!”
Me, my brother and dad all have it and it sucks.
@@yesimerin Thanks! I actually went to the derm and they gave me a lotion for KP anyway this really made my day
Why would you want to skip ahead????? And miss seeing these two gorgeous doctors??❣️❣️
Right!? 😬🤗💯
I grew up in Canada and had it on my arms and thighs. Moved to Florida as an adult and it pretty much went away. I suspect that Vitamin D deficiency may exacerbate it. Also changed to a plant based diet so that may have helped too.
I live in greece and I have this😥 Especially in summer because I wax/shave more 😅
Self tanner helps hide the discoloration as well.
You may be write. I lived in Nigeria that’s hot and didn’t have it and moved abroad and it appeared everywhere.
@@obitriceforlife5771 that is interesting
Mine got a lot better when I wore short sleeves and went outside. Also using salicylic acid soap, physically exfoliating, moisturizing with CeraVe and ammonium lactate lotion really helped.
Very useful to hear the different beneficial ingredients and the ‘why’ of how they work for this condition. Thank you!

i grew up with this being a HUGE issue during teen years and as a younger adult. these days at 27 some of the bumps remain, but the redness isn't really there anymore thankfully. idk if it's because my diet has changed over time, or if it's just something i was able to grow out of. either way i am greatful for this to be far less noticeable in my current life

@@MelbournesEast Ehhhh, the “go gluten free” cure-all that gets thrown around a lot just doesn’t work for everyone. I have a zillion food allergies, so I already avoid gluten, wheat, dairy, eggs, etc. and still have skin issues people claim would be cured by quitting what I’m *already* not eating. It’s possible you had a sensitivity or allergy to wheat, and that’s why quitting gluten helped you.
@@bistitchualbee it absolutely worked for me, so why not share that. Wasn’t that the point? It’s free to eliminate for 30 days. Why not share what worked for me? I did not say it would work for everyone.
Sounds weird, but I feel like it’s not only a skin condition 🥴
great video, you explain the condition so well!
As weird as this sounds, mine always seems to get better with sun exposure. If I lay out and tan during the summer, I have always notice a decrease in the amount bumps. It’s not a one and done kind of thing, but over the summer the bumps seem to lessen. And then winter comes and it’s all back.
@@LLamaFreak031 Yes, I’ve made the same experience!
I absolutely love the free education you provide. It's what makes me trust your recommendations. Thanks for all the great videos you guys put out!
Thank you guys for making these videos. I have wondered my whole life why I have such rough skin and strawberry legs. I appreciate knowing what is is, and products that could possibly help. I appreciate actual medical professionals providing education and accurate information that I can trust. So thank you again.
Adapalene + thick moisturizing cream (cerave/aveeno eczema)works on the back of my arms
As a kid I had them all over my legs and I never worn a skirt or shorts no matter how hot it was.
Stay positive and stay strong.
feeling so comforted by this comment section rn ☺️ glad to be among my fellow kp havers n haters lol
Thanks, I’ve been insecure about this my entire life
I’ve been using the Cerave SA cream and the KP exfoliating scrub for about 2 years and it has been working, but it works slowly (but surely). Also, Dr. Eric Berg said one of the other reasons why keratosis Pilaris happens is because of a lack of absorption of vitamin A and also because you need more Omega-3s in your diet so he recommends to take cod liver oil (which you can buy from Amazon) to take care of yourself from the inside as well :)

I grew up with it, and got rid of it by taking omega 3 supplements. While it is genetic, it is tied to essential fatty acid deficiency. Also, eating gluten free has really helped.
Wish that had worked for me. I do those things and over 10 years later still have it. 🤷
Interesting.
@@itoshiibaka8267 what about vitamin a?
Woah I think you might be right about omega-3 ! Mine have disappeared too by now and I didn't realize that as I mostly get them on the back of my arms. I had those bumps for most my life.

I have been doing a BHA and AHA moisturizing cream on my arms before bed. I was using a plain moisturizer before bed already, so just switching to one specific to help bumpy skin was so easy and made SUCH A DIFFERENCE. I am on week three-ish of applying every night before bed and I am so pleased with my results.
I just double checked the stuff I got and it has all the ingredients you mentioned - YAY.
For me these things did it (I tried these for other health related reasons and it also worked with my skin):
- cut gluten & milk from my diet (small amounts are ok)
- apply (organic!) almond, jojoba or red palm oil after showering
- plus supplements (not everything at once): omega 3 (with epa, dha), zinc, iron, b vitamins, magnesium(citrate)&calcium(citrate), protein shakes (pea, without sweeteners or sugar substitutes, milk protein may cause problems), vitamin d, natto,
- get enough potassium from food (potatoes, pumpkin, beans), if vegetables are cooked and the water is discarded, most of the potassium is discarded too
