I like those little Rollocs on an angle grinder. As soon as I saw that flywheel you were working on I wanted to try one of my scotchbrite rollocs on it. Polish but not remove much material.
Awesome job and information. I bought a Valeo single mass conversion kit in January and now that it's warm enough, I pulled it out of the box and found that the flywheel had a lot of rust on it and it has transferred to the inaccessible areas of the clutch plate. I cleaned the flywheel with a sanding disc but I'm afraid that it's going to continue to rust when I install it. Should I primer it before installation?
If you cleaned up the area on the flywheel and pressure plate where the clutch disc touches that would be fine. the disc can only get rust on the rivets so that is ok as well. I would wipe the pressure plate and flywheel down with alcohol when installing and you will be fine. In the future if the parts are not sealed I spray something like wd40 or even atf just so they dont rust.
this is a demonstration on what someone could do in an emergency, or when they had installed a new/resurfaced flywheel and shortly there after had to pull the unit for some reason and wanted to touch up they flywheel.
Here is my analogy... if you need to fix a sick heart and replacing it with a healthy one which you are not sure if it is compatible, would you rather fix the original sick heart?
I can drive 30 miles and its $35 for a single face or $50 for a step face flywheel. However when I can get a Brand New one shipped to me for $60, its not worth it even if its free.
This only works on flywheels that are not oil soaked,or has hot spots or has visible hairline cracks. for my customers I mainly use new LUK flywheels, but that's for the 87-06 Jeeps. the older CJ's have flywheels that are much harder to find if at all
very informative video thank you. I cant get a new flywheel for my rsx clutch job and this helped me save my cash thanks!!

I use them on everything. I even rebuilt my 1952 Sears table saw with them

Looks good dude I did this on drag cars and worked fine
Interesting. Having this done on a 1992 Mercedes with 5-speed manual. No new flywheels around in the US.
Nice work brother 👍
i dont suppose an orbital sander would work the same?
orbital palm sander that is
@@1369Stiles No I dont think so, the flap disc could be attached to a drill though.
Says florida....the wild florida man back at it again
Nicely done, Brother 👍🏼
I was taught to clean with alcohol too! 🤙🏼
My local shop, Houston, TX, asks $85.
was that before or after you cleaned with alcohol
Ever heard of run-out?
