Hey friend, I was watching your video and thinking, You know the wire gauge on the magnetic? You need to make something with a oil soaked cloth rubbing on the flywheel to keep a thin coat of oil on the flywheel as you are cutting it down..... Then your cutting tool will last longer!
I think there’s a step missing...... after machining wouldn’t you have to re-harden the face by tempering the steel again since you’ve just machined off part or all of the hardened face......? I also would have thought the angle grinding step would be a little imprecise with a fibre disk and way too hot on the face and soften the metal further which weakens the flywheel face..... Looks like an effective repair but I wonder how long it would last..... I think you need to look at temperature and maybe another step that re hardens the surface....
@@yeezywesty3651 without being uniformly heated to known temperature and quenched in oil or water depending on the required hardness..... oil is better..... yes it does experience heat and tempers itself the problem is the new tempering is softer.......
you would see flywheels made of more exotic materials if they weren't supposed to wear down.... a tempered surface would just develop cracks and chew the friction plate to pieces in no time... you need the lump of metal to be soft but not soft enough it can't be machined or provide enough grip, the flywheel is heat treated from the factory, this is adequate because it's a consumable part,, the surface is going to wear down anyway so nobody is going to bother tempering a face flyface. . there's a lot of science to this.
As a 40 year machinist I see a few things wrong in the creation of this video. Obviously workplace safety is not practiced at this shop. First, loose clothing should not be worn when working around a lathe. Thats a good way to loose body parts if distracted even for a split second. And lastly, where are his safety glasses!
hey if you feel like sending them some, by all means.. you think they have money for PPE ? broke my heart seeing it too but I can tell they're operating on tight margins.
@@yeezywesty3651 True enough Yeezy. However, I must admire the workers ability to get the job done in a careless but genius sort of way. Whatever it takes! I personally never had luck facing a flywheel mounted directly to the chuck. The harmonics or vibration created when cutting can work the flywheel loose creating an uneven cut or cause a fish scaling effect, even at any speed, with or without a rubber strap attached.
I have been working on trucks for 40 years, most components end up as scrap but you guys restore everything, keep the video,s coming they are awesome
bins and bins full of parts scrapped.
Wow its good to see this guy taking good care of his lathe.

these videos are the best. I can't wait to get home from work and check new videos.
Only mechanics keep the world in motion !
Best wishes and stay healthy
Keren, selamat bekerja.👍👍
Thanks
Always good to see someone using a tray to catch the sparks... they aren't free and you can reuse them ;)
Always a great job at Pakistani 🚛🚛🚛🚛
Good job👍
С болгаркой мне понравилось)) прям экшен))
Мог и резцом не пользоваться, сразу б заболгарил и все
@2:00 it's better to pull your sleeve up your arm then to pick your arm up off the floor
thanks
better yet cut the sleeves off for rags
This mechanic is careful with his work and runs a clean lathe.
thanks
Не жалеет себя токарь, сидит и пыль вдыхает когда резец точил. Пыль с лёгких не уходит
очков тоже нет!
В соседнем гараже легкие и глаза починят
Сланцы безопасности надеты
И рукава болтаются 👍
Jesteście bardzo dobrzy. Pozdrawiam z Polski
Your lathe technician is just excellent and wouldn’t it be nice if he had inserts for the cutter head. A real craftsman.
that grinding jig is epic.
@@yeezywesty3651 so ingenious. Use what is to hand. It costs nothing and will make an excellent job
Adjusting the belts with the motor running us one way to lose an arm.
Well Sid No shortage of arms in Pakistan
I'm amazed.
thanks
Странно почему они станок в землю не прикопали что бы на корточках работать
Buy that guy some safety glasses!

Well it's something that's been done since there were clutches and flywheels so.....

the clutch experiences heat and tempers itself the friction when in use...

you don't need a hammer if you use a blunt knife to center the disk.
Why used grinder? Surface hardend because of slipping clutch heat?
for polishing
Yes hard spots the bit won't cut. That's why flywheel grinding machines are commonly used.

then again, they have money for a lathe... there must be plenty of people walking around with uno hosos, and industrial hearing loss.
