  • Today we talk about reusing a old clutch disk, pressure plate, and flywheel. In many cases, these parts CAN be reused, if you know what to look for. However, if you don't like replacing your clutch and dropping your transmission, just buy new parts. This is for people who are trying to budget and save money. Driveway flywheel resurfacing isn't for everyone and you can't get parts nearly as flat as professional resurfacing!

    Nice job Young Brother! Very good video that details the prep work so the clutch plate adheres to the flywheel/pressure plate better!👍

    If it works, it works. I'd replace throw out bearing and pilot bearing unless extremely low miles. Primary measurements for the clutch disc are material thickness and depth to rivets from material surface. Hope it works well for you!

      These had about 3k miles on them. Turns out stock bearings don't work with a Stage 2 Flyin' Miata clutch though, that bit me that's for sure. Good point about the material thickness!

      You need to check the steel pressure plate is level with a straight edge, I used a good quality steel ruler and hold up to the light, of course of you see light coming under the edge then the part is probably warped and needs to be replaced.

    Reusing a clutch can potentially save you money when done right! Note, this video was filmed before I put the wrong throwout bearing in with my upgraded clutch.. be sure to do your research before mixing and matching clutch parts!

    What size sanding disc holder did you use? Was it 2 inch, 3 inch, or 4 inch? And where did you buy it?

  • @sethmullins8346

    I need to do this because I bought an antique truck needing a clutch that the pressure plate is no longer made for. For some reason there are numerous clutch discs available cheap but no pressure plates.

    Is it possible to refine/prep a brand new clutch disc and clutch plate,being that they are processed in large quantities and not produced by the best manufactures,(as to say no name branded parts)lets persay,I felt my new clutch disc feels as if it has burs on its edges and so does the clutch plate ..Would a 200 to 300 mile clutch breakin/bedding in be better to remove and flatten these points in the disc and plate also flywheel or could we prep the new parts as you did your old parts,whith a high grit number sanding disc,or take the new parts to a machine shop for "prepping?✌

    great video and to the point. Thanks. Is it ok to use break cleaner on the clutch disk to make sure is clear of any oil and dirt?
    Also when you say to make sure the disk has enough meat, how may MM should be the thickness of the disk?

    • @CashedOutCars
      @CashedOutCars  Рік тому

      I used it on the disk and it was ok, but I'd do a bit more research to be 100% sure. Thickness will depend on the clutch itself. Take a look at a picture of a new one and compare!

    It works great! I got my flywheel professionally ground and I grounded the pressure plate myself.
    As long as you use plenty of lubricant and don’t put pressure; let the sandpaper do all the work, you shouldn’t risk warping it. Good idea to grab a ruler to check for low spots.

    Quick qustion
    About to drop transmision as clutch is slipping quite heavily,do not have the cash to go all out on this so was thinking of re using pressure plate and just get a new clutch plate.Will have flywheel and pressure plate re surfaced.
    Any advice.

    • @CashedOutCars
      @CashedOutCars  2 роки тому +2

      If you pull it and the flywheel and pressure plate look fine, I think that’s a good way to go. If they look severely damaged or hot spotted, then you may need a whole kit

    Hi Cash,
    I had my 2013 Daihatsu Gran Max clutch & flywheel resurfaced at a good shop.
    Now, it doesn't release completely.
    Throw-out bearing is good and pedal does NOT feel spongey
    What could I check next?

    • @danchamberlain6069
      @danchamberlain6069 Рік тому

      Add some super thin washers between the pressure plate and flywheel till you get good release .

      I had the same problem. Used a resurfaced flywheel & low mile clutch. It wasn't disengaging all the way. I bought shims for the throwout bearing (interior slave cyl)
