Переглядів 704 роки тому
I started to install a new radio in my Jeep and noticed some electrical issues under the dash, by the time I got those figured out I had bumped the oil pressure line and cracked it. When I started up the jeep oil started to leak onto the radio but didnt notice until it was had filled up and then starting to leak out and on to the floor. I ordered some contact cleaner and opened the radio and cl...

How to tell if your transfer case output shaft is bent
Just did this and got my horn back working, I hope it last for quite a while. seeing how this is made I bet you could make this in the future if you can't find a good used one. I've seen aftermarket systems where you have a quick disconnect steering wheel with a horn, Downside is I would loose cruise control and the airbag. I could do without the airbag but would like to retain the cruise control. Thank you, You should have far more subscribers you're a natural at explaining.
Wow you don't know how the use that correctly.
Thank you for the video. Worked great!! Struggled getting the clear plastic cover off while not trying to mangle it, failed.
Great video, super helpful. In my situation was able to disassemble pretty easy. Unfortunately the previous plastic cap (that snaps on to the ball end) seems lost forever and was broken likely fell to bottom of transmission. Hope it won’t cause a problem. Got a rebuilt kit for 70$ shipped. Putting it back tomorrow. Wish me luck
Gotta appreciate a guy who does shit right takes his times finds the actual problem and rectifies it. So many people now days with absolutely no common sense just throw parts at problems with the hit or miss attitude I frame off restored a 99 tj and swapped the ax15 for the nv3550 and got lucky and found one old stock from dealer never touched was still in original crate wrapped up in a blue bag with enough oil in it to fill the jeep with hahaha but hell yeah man I don't have not one problem with the trans but having hell finding the right clutch kit for my setup the stock 4.0 has been rebuilt to a 5.0 by stroke/bore/crank/rod/piston selection didn't want to just bore the hell out of it because that's what titan strokers sold me in a kit and it was trash
I only use LUK brand for clutches and hydraulics for stock applications which is #05-065. You might look at #05-901 which is their heavy duty version, otherwise you would he to get into the $300+ sets like centerforce.
Watching this video I solved my problem by separating the activator sheet, I added a sheet of super 33+ scotch round, nothing, no bigger than 3/8", mount it back and bingo it was left at the factory, the problem was driving me crazy and nothing with 5 cents of time I solved it, thank you very much.
How did the paint stick after using the 40 grit ?
Good evening. I need to ask you a question. I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota with the 2.5 and "had" a nv3550 (removable bellhousing) that was trashed by previous owner. I had a few ax5's that would bolt up, but shifter was too close to the dash andwouldn't shift to (1,3,5). Dug through my pile and found a bellhousing that fits the ax15 and metric 2.5L. Swapped slipyokes, and everything was great until it started popping out of 1st. Now its doing it most every time, so am starting out in 2nd. I bought a shifter "rebuild" kit and waiting for the new detent spring and ball in the mail. I have 3.55 gear and its a bit slower, but at least its not popping out. What are your thoughts on why(?) I believe i pulled it from a 01 Cherokee, and felt nice and tight, with nice honey colored lube when drained. Did install a new clutch assembly with pilot and surfaced flywheel. Do you have a rebuild service? Im just under Memphis area. Please respond!
Ok the first thing I suggest is to remove all of the shifter floor boots, you want to be able to see the shifter as it moves in and out of the gears to make sure there's no interference. Do this then drive it and see if there's a change, if so then you know the boots are at least part of the issue. If you have the upper part of the shifter hitting the dash then you can either swap to another style of shifter or heat this one up and bend it into a use-able angle. If there's no change after either of these then it would be inside the unit. I do build these daily and have a large selection of used parts if needed.
@gearboxgarage Yep. Tried that and then started to pop out of 3rd. If I was empty, I could start in second. But too tall of a gear in third. So parked it and pulling the transmission back out today. I did have a couple more transmissions and will put them out for pictures. I'll get back to you.
Awesome job and information. I bought a Valeo single mass conversion kit in January and now that it's warm enough, I pulled it out of the box and found that the flywheel had a lot of rust on it and it has transferred to the inaccessible areas of the clutch plate. I cleaned the flywheel with a sanding disc but I'm afraid that it's going to continue to rust when I install it. Should I primer it before installation?
If you cleaned up the area on the flywheel and pressure plate where the clutch disc touches that would be fine. the disc can only get rust on the rivets so that is ok as well. I would wipe the pressure plate and flywheel down with alcohol when installing and you will be fine. In the future if the parts are not sealed I spray something like wd40 or even atf just so they dont rust.
has anyone tried a dodge acuator for the 4x4 fork. They have the same setup but not vacumm
When you say actuator I think ac switch so I am not sure what you mean.
@@gearboxgarage electric acuators are basically a small 2 way motor. Like an electric door lock acuator. Most today like dodge trucks use an electric actuator to move the fork back and forth. The system, except for the electric motor looks the same on the inside of the transfer case as a jeep. I am sorry this is off topic. was just picking your brain or others that watch your channel. They have a cable kit but electric would be cool.
Thanks buddy! I'm in Brazil and I have a 1997 TJ, it helped me solve the problem, as we don't have many parts for this vehicle here. grateful.
Nicely done, Brother 👍🏼 I was taught to clean with alcohol too! 🤙🏼 My local shop, Houston, TX, asks $85.
was that before or after you cleaned with alcohol
Thanks brudder! I will fix mine now!
What's the point of the z box bracket..it seems to be the problem with the shifter not getting where it needs to be..on my 94 YJ that I'm installing a new Golen Stroker Motor, AX-15 transmission to my original NP231J transfer case.. three damn days and counting fighting that bugger
Thank you so much. Finally got around to fixing the 4x4. It’s working now after 10 months thanks to you 😂.
I am happy my video helped
Thank you for the video. Huge help
I am happy that it helped.
Best video out there for this information. I'm working on a YJ ax5 right now and this answered all my questions about the shifter assembly. Mine was full of dirt and the transmission is full of water. The boot was tore to shreds and the bushing is not there.
Is there a way to separate the shift handoff from the actual shifter on the Peugeot?
Easy my rear...lol. I got it off, oiled, and sliding in less than 5 minutes. Then it took 2 hours to try to get the thing back on. Bloody knuckles and scraped forarms. He shows you in the video with the skid plate off. If your skid plate is still on good luck. took off the shifter cover in the cab floor and tried to come in from the top too. you are trying to squeeze channel locks blind. next time i will drop the skid plate.
😂😂😂😂😂 Tell me about it..and I bought a new adjustable arm with the swivel eye ends to make it "easier" (my ass) To keep in place I'm about ready to cut the damn z bracket and weld it differently guaranteeing me enough room to shift the Biiiotch!!
You would have to be brain-dead to fit an Automatic opener on a wooden post
Toxic solvent
For the shifter upper portion that goes in the tower (lower seat down to pivot ball) on the AX-15: first one you showed is from a YJ; it uses the straight lower half with the longer seat to pivot ball measurement and the tall tower. Dakota one you showed also uses a tall tower and has the longer seat to pivot ball measurement. 3rd one you showed is from a TJ; also uses the tall tower and longer seat to pivot ball measurement, and has the 'crooked' stick base. MJ and XJ back to mid-1989 use one that has a short tower and shorter seat to pivot ball measurement, but also has the 'crooked' stick base. If you do a transfer case drop in XJ/MJ you can get the downward distance back by switching to a TJ tower/ lower stick.
I'm thinking of getting this 1994 yj. The owner said the shifter is broke and the transmission is in reverse. I haven't seen any pictures of what it looks like but do you know of a way to shift these just to get them home?
you can remove the shifter from the tower and take a long screw driver and manually shift the linkage into neutral so it would roll if you want to drive it then you would need to have another shifter to reinstall
After doing more research and asking him he says that when it was in reverse the guys wife forced it outf of reverse without the clutch and that's what broke the shifter. So do you think it's actually the shifter that's broke or could that have damaged the transmission? I saw on here that the transmission could get locked in reverse and the shifter will move but not to into any gears. I'm hoping it's a simple as that what do you think?
odds are something inside has come apart, since with the engine running or not or clutch good or has exploded you should still be able to still shift the transmission.
This totally worked for my 2000 TJ! My switch was rectangular, but it all still functioned the same. I did basically everything the video and the comments section said, including snipping the edge, separating the two sheets, and I even did the dielectric grease hack It’s honking beautifully now lol. Thanks for the help and expertise!
I am glad you found my video helpful.
I just bought a similar parts washer. I am going to use a large funnel with a automotive type paint filter/strainer inside, between the drain to the 5 gallon pail to strain out any dirt. It means I have to keep an eye on it, but for me trying different methods and spending money on items that might not work, is a waste of time and money. This is guaranteed to work - just slower - and it is cheaper and faster to use/exchange a new filter.
I tried the dielectric grease and it wouldn’t make contact. Ended up cleaning the grease off, rubber cementing it together and it works great. I cut all of the plastic welds off and wish I hadn’t. Just cut 1/2 like he shows you. I had to use black 3m boat adhesive. (Forget the number. And let it dry. Still works great. I like the dry moly suggestion. Curious how that works.
I have a nother question, do you think that aax15 is a good choice for a yj jeep that is running a 360 v 8 with 35 in. Tires
Is there a upgrade kit for the ax15 ? You sir are like watching a doctor in a operating room.
I know it’s intimidating, when I did floors I used it daily. I could rock that area out in prolly 20-40 mins. Balance it on ur pelvis. I can literally use it with no hands. I know it does you no good, but if others read this
You didn’t use the right head and media
what would you suggest for head type and media on a concrete floor like this?
Very cool! Ill be referencing this video this weekend. Thanks for the vid.
I got a nv3500 doing the same thing to the point I can't pull or put it in gear an I believe it's the same problem thanks for the video man
I got the same problem was that the fix
I'm glad you're a good mechanic because you'll never make it as a [bare] foot model! 😄 On a more serious note, thanks for taking the time to make this video - EXTREMELY helpful. We've got a high-mileage TJ with an NV3550 and it is a bear to shift. Mercifully, I've purchased a core to rebuild and now have much better insight regarding what is wrong! Thanks again!
Concrete detergent would’ve gotten all that up in one swoop . Also, paint comes up too quick . Casting or water based stain is probably best .
What floor mats are those?
"Bedrug"
Hey bud. Over from waemids. Subbed. Happy Independence day!🧨
What rebuild kit do you recommend?
Interesting. Having this done on a 1992 Mercedes with 5-speed manual. No new flywheels around in the US.
Hi mate I have shifter on my 2002 jeep liberty looks limits missing shim washer can I send you photos so I can maybe help in getting parts Leigh
Use a diamond grinder system. Etching concrete with chemicals ruins the surface.
Looks good dude I did this on drag cars and worked fine
I have a 2000 TJ and I am having trouble shifting into 2nd and reverse. Thoughts?
you may have a bent shift fork or a squeed synchro
it can’t be anything to do with the shifter it has to be something internal
👏
Respect to you sir, you have the knowledge and experience so valuable only comes with time and practice
No new OEM parts available. I've heard bad reviews of some of the 3rd party parts, do you know which are good quality? I have a new-to-me used 3550 waiting to get my Jeep back on the road but it has the exact issue in this video. Especially 3-4 and some in 5-R also, so probably need new forks. Any you recommend?
For the Jeep unit there is no longer a 1st gear, 1st gear needle bearing, 2nd gear, 2nd gear needle bearing,so as long as your unit is not "jumping" out of those gears it should be fine to rebuild. I would suggest replacing all 3 shift forks if they are even a tiny bit tight. Ebay should have the forks but the nv3500 dodge,nv3500 chevy, and nv3550 jeep are all different so pay attention. The other thing with these units is the main bearings are made in Canada ( yea who knew) and they start to leave super fine black metal anytime after 100k miles so i f your going to open up the unit i would suggest new bearing kit also the bearing kits differ based on the diameter of the counter shaft journal they are either 30mm or 33mm. the only other item that i replace often are the sliders (1/2, 3/4, 5/r). if you plan on doing the rebuild your self i suggest watching a few videos, the main issue is without a holding fixture they are tough to get back together, i made mine, let me know if I can help answer any other questions
Also i suggest using Redline MTL fluid
Awesome i never thought it could be too tight
How much po sir?
How much po sir?
