This blade is a no go. Bought two and both were warped. Good design but terrible exicution from schrade. I want to like it sooooo much but others have had the same issue
This is one of the very few blades I've ever bought, budget or otherwise that I did not have to touch or modify in any way. I loved it so much I was afraid to check the balance for fear of damaging that tip. Thanks for doing it for me and reassuring me that it is properly calibrated! :) Of course now I'm going to have to check myself...Great video as always!
A lot of the Schrade knife sheaths have a Velcro belt loop. Like you, I had a no idea what purpose that Velcro loop served. Then, I added my schf52 to a sling I made out of a large leather belt to carry my Ontario Marine Raider and found the Velcro loop handy. I was already wearing the sling, so it was easy adding the Schrade to the sling without having to take it off. That's a pretty obscure case that makes the Velcro loop a handy feature. Otherwise, it kinda doesn't make sense.
Brian I just got one of these today and wanted to say thanks for showing it. This was the first SOP video I ever watched and was my introduction to Schrade, though I've watched most of your vids since and bought 4 other schrades waiting for Priscilla to come out.So again thank you, your vids and effort do help and are greatly appreciated.
They are sold out for now. They were on schrades website under fixed blades ( not machete) but sold out in like 2 days and were on Amazon under "schrade makhaira brush sword" being sold by 3rd party vendor blade shop.I had a hard time finding it too and it only came up when I typed that specific name, not under schrade knives or machetes or fixed blades etc. They came out around January 17th, at least that's when I noticed them in stock and had been checking schrade website every few days since Jan 1st. Same thing with the schf64 froe, I didn't get one of those though...
Now it doesn't come up on Amazon at all and I can only access the page through my previous orders listings. The page has that "we don't know when or if this item will be back in stock" heading. But if it sold out in just a few days I'm positive schrade will make more.
That sure is a very big knife. Of all the youtube vids I have seen on Survival stuff you are the one that I have seen that enjoys doing your job on here so much really. Thanks Brian good review.
Bryan, if you have a Costco store in your area, you have to see if they have the knife, flashlight, multi tool set made by snap on. Bought three for Christmas gifts . For the price I am very impressed. I think you will be also. Very budget friendly. Can not say how balanced they are. I wish I owned a quality test facility like you have, so I will have to leave that part up to you. Can't go wrong with these in a BOB or EDC.
Schrade Saturday :D That is one highly impressive and capable knife. Wow! The ergonomy seems great. And the shape of the blade is beautiful. I love that long curve. I agree, seems like a winner. Priscilla. Hilarious name for a big knife. Great review as always Bryan! Big thumbs up! :)
I have to say one thing I would like to know about an edged tool like this is the thickness of the blade. I'm glad to see you covered that when talking about the blade after the bushcraft testing. Thing is it would be nice to include in the specs. I do like the design and I have been considering trying out another machete. I will likely wait till 2017 when this one comes out.
Now it's working. I see your in a different location, which is a surprise. As usual a very thorough review and being that Schrade has established a history of improving products and providing customers with value, performance and ergonomics, your comments are fair and right on. I am sure 1060 or 1095 steel would open eyes, but their high carbon stainless (#Cr#Mov steels) are very good.
The video won't play right now, but I saw this reviewed by Tactical. I think it's very cool. Nice design, nice long lines and shallow curves. Looks like it would be great for self defense as well as neatly clearing the land.
As much as I love the Schrade brand, when it comes to jungle bolos, I will always choose the ones made by natives. I have a very similar shaped one, made in Philippines for hundreds of years. And I love it.
Man! Shrade is going all in for the zombie apocalypse. If your needing a machete, might as well get a cool one like this. And admit it Brian. I know you felt totally Mohican bad throwing that thing. Good stuff. Thanks Brian.
as someone that's used machetes a lot. in pretty much any situation. in my opinion, and I'd stake my life on it, a machete, especially a good one can be a end all be all blade of choice for any woods/survival situation. if, and only if, you had one blade to choose in bringing with you.
Right blade and handle shape. Good sheath (finally). Serviceable and easily sharpened steel. Clip the wings a little and hit the $50 ish price point, I'm all over that thing.
If they would have put a slight kukri bend in it it would have been a close copy to Nicole's blade on Alone season 2. I've been looking for one of her blades. The guy that made hers will make one fie me, but it will cost around $500. Which is fine. Cold steel Sam Mai cost about the same. I just want to try something close first and see if I like it.
Say Heah Brian, Defenetly a good clearing tool, In my neck of the woods a Summee Long Knife is used alot. I knew right away knew it would be a good chopper, It dies look a little like my O. K. C. Gen2 SP-53 and it's a Sharp Hammer. Yeah I like the Priscilla but only if they made it in a 5160
I'm sold on it, in fact I bought one on Amazon earlier today, it's a lovely odd ball... It's not quite a chopping knife, too long, not heavy enough... It's not quite a sword, to short, not much hand protection... Not quite a machete, too thick, not flexible enough... And I'm not even sure if it's a swordchete. The only thing like it I can think of is the Hanwei Banshee. But it looks perfect for my neck of the woods in Maine where we mostly have small poplar, bass wood, and white pine. I'm curious to see how this compares with my larger Cold Steel Swordchetes. I need to slow down on blades though... Got a two actual swords in the mail along with this thing.
I'm surprised they didn't call it Thorin, or even just Orcrist. I guess if they did they'd have to pay royalties. The blade design, sweep, belly, recurve, and straight back are almost exactly the shape of the sword "Orcrist" from the movie "The Hobbit" and used by Thorin Oakenshield, King Under The Mountain. As a fantasy sword I love Orcrist, it's a very good design. As such, the Priscilla will probably be a good cutter, but I'll bet the blade doesn't glow blue when orcs or goblins are near. Bummer.
Looks pretty good! Definitely something to look at for a zombie apocalypse. Not sure how useful it would be for me here in the Pacific Northwest. Good review as always.
+Mike Major (Rather Be Bushcrafting) I think it would be useful anywhere for most tasks a small hatchet would be used for. It is just another choice, not necessarily the best one for all circumstances. It it is pretty cool. Thanks for watching.
That is a very impressive tool. I like how you made this video. The overall style and especially the guitar picking while doing the testing. This one has has risen above your normal outstanding quality. You gave a very detailed review. Thank you. I do have a question. What species of pine are these trees that sprout fine cutting instruments when you walk through the woods? Are they only native to Georgia?
Prissy has bite. The sharpened side of the finger guard/choil concerns me but that is easy to take care of. Looks like it would be good for zombies as well:)
+joshua richards i'd say if you're just looking for a straight up machete this is probably not what you're looking for. If you're looking for a more versatile tool with a little style, this might fit the bill
Hi I know this old video, but it was this video that I brought this machete after watching. Have you done any video's on fixing a dented or bad rolled edge. It's more dented than anything. I tried chopping some green branches of a gum tree (I'm in Australia) The branch was around 2 to 2 half inch thick and was chopping find fist 5 or so wacks but after 10 or so good feel it changed so look and had dent it. Can you or any recommend a good way to get the fine waves out after I got most of the dent out with over working the steel and making it stretched and soft or weak.
Hello bro. Hopefully my advice is not too late. The late master bladesman cliff stamp sagely advises to hammer the waves out with a ball pein hammer on a suitable surface, dont go crazy and impact the steel just very light hammering until its straight again. I have used this technique to great effect and saved myself a lot of trouble
Nice machete, nice design, not just a flat piece of metal that's been sharpened, but I'm not sure about that sharp looking point bit at the edge of the blade next to the handle,
Howdy I live in Australia where we have the most stupid knife rules outside of Great Britain , love the Prasilla we made a movie of the same I own a CRKT chanceinhell a must travelling companion when I go outback , love your vids see ya
Like I've always said, if the blade is stupid sharp, even a large blade, it'll do some brush craft stuff. Great review on a very interesting machete. But if I buy one I'm changing it's name to Chuck. BTW: your legs aren't white their florescent white, wear shorts at night and the moon will light you up. You'll save on batteries, lol.
I bought the Jethro after watching your video on it....THEN I saw this video and cussed afterwards as I was ordering one from Amazon. Used both on a camping trip and was NOT disappointed in either blades. The sheath for the Jethro I love The sheath for the Priscilla I HATE,and will be getting a custom sheath for her.

Not necessarily. If you look only at the spine it would appear as such but there is no noticeable thickness variation. It's most definitely 3/16". These grinds wouldn't work on 1/8" stock.
Well it IS. Check out the Greek kopis......thought to descend from the Egyptian Kopesh......and be the ancestor to the khukuri and maybe even the Thai E-nep...........In the handle its maybe more similar to the Celtiberian Falcata.....(maybe ancestor to the falchion ?)
I'm impressed by that blade. Couldn't believe you actually nailed it throwing it.
it was all in the hat!
It was the hat for sure.
;-)
This blade is a no go. Bought two and both were warped. Good design but terrible exicution from schrade. I want to like it sooooo much but others have had the same issue
It was definitely the hat which he looked amazing in
"For those of you still stuck in the Metric system", love it.
+Rick Falk they got it right for sure
A lot of the Schrade knife sheaths have a Velcro belt loop. Like you, I had a no idea what purpose that Velcro loop served. Thank you for all of the help. I was about to give up. I'll check back with Amazon in a week.
They came back in stock on schrades website today if your interested.
Bites into the wood very well thank you for trusted reviews have a great week
You too Gabe
That sure is a very big knife. Of all the youtube vids I have seen on Survival stuff you are the one that I have seen that enjoys doing your job on here so much really. Thanks Brian good review.
Aw shucks. You are too kind.

Aw shucks. You are too kind.
NICE!! I want one. It appears that Schrade did an excellent job on that one. Awesome video Bryan. You made that blade look good!
It was nuthin" ;-)
yes a new blade from schrade, thanks for the video Brian
Thanks for watching.
I have to say one thing I would like to know about an edged tool like this is the thickness of the blade. I'm glad to see you covered that when talking about the blade after the bushcraft testing. Yeah, I wanted to change up the scenery a little. It is tough without my state of the art testing facility though.
Yes, of course, as you invested hours of designing, weeks to build and a fortune to fund your high tech testing ground :)
Great review Bryan! And Priscilla sticks nice throw!
Thanks!
December of 2023 and I ordered mine today lol, it's a blade I meant to buy long ago and forgot about can't wait to play with it
It is a cool design
The video won't play right now, but I saw this reviewed by Tactical. I think it's very cool. Nice design, nice long lines and shallow curves. Looks like it would be great for self defense as well as neatly clearing the land.
That is pretty sweet, thank you so much for sharing and I hope you have a blessed week.
You too
As much as I love the Schrade brand, when it comes to jungle bolos, I will always choose the ones made by natives. I have a very similar shaped one, made in Philippines for hundreds of years. And I love it.
Very nice
Man! Shrade is going all in for the zombie apocalypse. If your needing a machete, might as well get a cool one like this. And admit it Brian. I know you felt totally Mohican bad throwing that thing. Good stuff. Thanks Brian.
I was having fun making this one
as someone that's used machetes a lot. in pretty much any situation. in my opinion, and I'd stake my life on it, a machete, especially a good one can be a end all be all blade of choice for any woods/survival situation. if, and only if, you had one blade to choose in bringing with you.
I think it depends on your location
One of my all time fav tool and weapon
;-)
Please do a updated video once the mass production version comes out.
Not sure, but I think this one was the production model. I'll find out.
Hey I see the Black Scout Survival hat. Very nice
Isn't it?
I am going to keep an eye when this one comes out.
I would
Right blade and handle shape. Good sheath (finally). Serviceable and easily sharpened steel. Clip the wings a little and hit the $50 ish price point, I'm all over that thing.
I bet it will be a bargain
Brian, always enjoy your videos., thumbs up. Dan in Macon,Ga.
Thanks for watching Dan.
Thanks for the Schrade vids. Looks like Schrade/ Taylor brands/ S&W is keeping a god thing going.
I agree
I think I'd like to explore a serious relationship with sweet Priscilla!!!
Indeed!!
I hear she plays "the field"
;-)
@@SurvivalOnPurpose it'd be nice if you included the price point in the review
Do Priscilla and Jessica get along? lol Looks like a nice new offering by Schrade. Thanks for sharing it.
+sameold77 thanks for watching
I'm pretty excited for this I wonder how well it will stand up against Kershaw's Camp series machetes.
I have used both and I like them both but this one is my favorite so far.
Very cool MBS... No BS 😆
Love this wacky tool 👍
Cheers
Blazin'Blades
Thanks for watching.
I really like the design of this one. Wishlist material! 👍
I agree

I hear you
Great looking blade. Looking forward to having one in hand.
You'll like it
Hey Bryan if you could only pick one Priscilla or Jethro
I might be concerned how fine the point/tip is, especially on a chopper. I see it breaking easily. Otherwise, looks like a real functional tool.
+David Mm I have no concerns based on my balance testing.
Say Heah Brian, Defenetly a good clearing tool, In my neck of the woods a Summee Long Knife is used alot. I knew right away knew it would be a good chopper, It dies look a little like my O. K. C. Gen2 SP-53 and it's a Sharp Hammer. Yeah I like the Priscilla but only if they made it in a 5160
;-)
Looks like something we should have!!!
I agree
That looks wicked sharp!
It was crazy sharp for a machete size blade
Schrade brings it again!
Yep
Il love seeing a versus video of this and a standard tramontina
Im still not sold on the steel but I love that design, I can see why you chose this one for the Zpaw.
+TurtleWolf Pack it is fun
Great video and a cool blade to look forward to. How do you think it would do at shelter building?
Excellent
I'm sold on it, in fact I bought one on Amazon earlier today, it's a lovely odd ball... It's not quite a chopping knife, too long, not heavy enough... It's not quite a sword, to short, not much hand protection... Not quite a machete, too thick, not flexible enough... And I'm not even sure if it's a swordchete. Cool
Skunk!!! Nice review Bryan cool blade
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Not bad, might have to grab one of these when they come out.
You will be glad you did.
I'm surprised they didn't call it Thorin, or even just Orcrist. I guess if they did they'd have to pay royalties. But it sings as it slides through their orcen flesh
Good eye Rodger.
Same design as Thorin's Elven made sword.
Very nice, definitely gonna have to check that out. Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching.
And an awesome blade thrower 👍🏽 very impressed
Thanks!
Price? I'm getting one if it's not to bad.
no idea yet
$32 on Amazon
right around 30 bucks. I'd say that's a pretty good price for this too.
Looks great! Nice hat
+Troy Manning It is a nice hat, isn't it ?
Good video. When is this machete for sale and how much?
2017 and I don't know ;-)
nice vid. We'll be looking forward to this one
Yeah, its a good one
Last Oct you reviewed the Schrade Gurkha Kukri. How would you compare Priscilla to that Kukri???
I like this one better
Looks good, but how does it take to being resharpened.
How long does any blade this size take?
Not a fan of Schrade but I gotta say I'm interested in this one. Price point?
don't know yet
Blade thickness - how much.
Is there a story behind the skunk? I have seen it in a few videos.
Skunk? What skunk?
"OK". Like your channel. Keep up the good work. "Squirrel"
That looks great!
I think so
That is a very impressive tool.
Aw shucks. You are too kind. And the pines are definitely native to Georgia. A very small area in fact.
Trivia fact Josh named it after a character from one of his favorite anime’s 😁
Prissy has bite. The sharpened side of the finger guard/choil concerns me but that is easy to take care of. Looks like it would be good for zombies as well:)
She does indeed bite
Which knife is the better one: the SCHMBS "Priscilla" or the large Kukri-Machete?
Better? That is a personal opinion. I like the Priscilla more.
Survival On Purpose
I meant "better" for some basics like chopping.
Of course there is always a subjectivity.
Great video. I'll definitely be getting one!
You will be glad you did.
the spine looks small and it looks like it wont hold up. is it worth it? my Filipino machetes have a thick spine and awesome chopping power.
+joshua richards i'd say if you're just looking for a straight up machete this is probably not what you're looking for. If you're looking for a more versatile tool with a little style, this might fit the bill
Hi, do you know the machetes: Schrade Priscilla, KERSHAW CAMP 18 "and CRKT Chanceinhell 18". What the best in the 3 choise?
Not sure about "best". I have both the Priscilla and the Camp 10 (not 18) and I like them both. But I especially like the Priscilla
But can you baton it?
Hi I know this old video, but it was this video that I brought this machete after watching. Have you done any video's on fixing a dented or bad rolled edge. It's more dented than anything. I tried chopping some green branches of a gum tree (I'm in Australia) The branch was around 2 to 2 half inch thick and was chopping find fist 5 or so wacks but after 10 or so good feel it changed so look and had dent it. Can you or any recommend a good way to get the fine waves out after I got most of the dent out with over working the steel and making it stretched and soft or weak.
All I can suggest is grinding it down with a lot of cooling water
You keep saying "SCHMBH" but it is "BS" :]
Great review. Liked the balance test.
Thanks for watching.
Nice review: thank you!
+Jon Dearborn thanks for warching
Great video definitely going to buy one. 👍🏽
You will be glad you did.
Nice machete, nice design, not just a flat piece of metal that's been sharpened, but I'm not sure about that sharp looking point bit at the edge of the blade next to the handle,
One more point.. I'm not sure if it was mentioned but how much does or will it cost.
no idea on cost yet and the point at the handle end is pretty protected by the sweep of the blade/handguard area.
Survival On Purpose okay.. thanks for replying, not alot of people do.
I like the look of this one
Me too
That thing is a hoss good review you really enjoyed that thing I could tell
I did
Does it hold an edge well? I've bought 3 schrade knives and the metal used is terrible. It just will not hold an edge at all.
Seems to be OK to me. I haven't used it a lot but whenever I do it does machete stuff fine.
Any idea on the inspiration for the blade shape/design? It reminds me of a Philippine bolo/machete.
Could be
Bolo knife:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolo_knife
SOP, which do you prefer--Priscilla or Kershaw Camp 18? Thanks
I never used the Camp 18. I do have a smaller Camp 10 (I think) and i like it. But I also like the Priscilla a lot
Well it certainly LOOKS cool. Being you are in Georgia maybe you should call that one a 'Hahira Bush Sword' :)
+JAB 619 it does look cool.
Howdy I live in Australia where we have the most stupid knife rules outside of Great Britain , love the Prasilla we made a movie of the same I own a CRKT chanceinhell a must travelling companion when I go outback , love your vids see ya
Thanks mate
Love it! Thanks for the vid.
I know you would like this one. It could have been designed with you in mind ;-)
Yes indeed! It looks like it can handle some abuse!
DO YOU HAVE A PROJECTED PRICE FOR THIS KNIFE?
not yet
when does this come out and where can I buy one?
Soon. Very soon
Thankyou. Where would I be able to purchase one?
how would that hold up during batoning wood
I imagine just fine. I have batoned many other Schrade 3Cr blades with no problems. Actually, I have never had a problem batoning any Schrade blade.
Survival On Purpose thanks for the reply. I definitely want to buy that when it comes out.
cant wait to see how it take wear and tear over time, 2017 maybe the year i replace my kukri
I'm sure it will do fine
In Louisiana, I use a real machete made in the Dominican Republic! Been using the same one for the last forty years!
Pale is in
Miranda Lambert's blade of choice.
;-)
do you know when in 2017 it comes out?
+Merrik Willson not yet
a blade for small trees sapling or brush
Outstanding
Thanks for watching.
Tell you what Brian...zombies better mind watch out for you and Priscilla!...:)
+alex “bikeman” o'neal ;-)
I bought the Jethro after watching your video on it....THEN I saw this video and cussed afterwards as I was ordering one from Amazon.
Used both on a camping trip and was NOT disappointed in either blades.
The sheath for the Jethro I love
The sheath for the Priscilla I HATE,and will be getting a custom sheath for her.
Hello everyone, I'm ted bear and today we are going to learn how to survive the comments section.
+Ted Bear I hope you have your survival kit with you
Survival On Purpose the best survival kit comes from nature! Just look at the sea sponge, look how it filter feeds, now let's try to apply that to our situation.
Now that's a nice one
I agree
finally a real blade by Schrade I can get behind unlike that garbage Jessica X. this is nice. any idea when it releases? and how much?
No idea yet on either
If this is the Priscilla, when is the Elvis coming out? LOL I had to! :)
+kyle_429 yes you did
what's the thickness on that blade?
sorry you mentioned already in the vid on how thick it is
He miss quoted the thickness. Actual stock thickness is 3/16".
It actually varies from place to place on the blade.
Not necessarily. If you look only at the spine it would appear as such but there is no noticeable thickness variation. It's most definitely 3/16". These grinds wouldn't work on 1/8" stock.
Nice blade
+Cameron Renteria I agrwe
Looks like something King Leonidas would have used at the Battle of Thermopylae.
+Dale James ;-)
Well it IS. Check out the Greek kopis......thought to descend from the Egyptian Kopesh......and be the ancestor to the khukuri and maybe even the Thai E-nep...........In the handle its maybe more similar to the Celtiberian Falcata.....(maybe ancestor to the falchion ?)
