On snowy days when my daughter Brodie was little I used to make potato soup and cinnamon rolls from scratch. Brodie and her Daddy would be outside shoveling the walks and clearing off the cars while I was busy in the kitchen. Nice memories.

Looks delicious. My mother used to have soup on the woodstove when we came home from school. The combination of wood smoke and hot soup was the most welcoming thing imaginable

@yerb 1970s. My parents were part of the back to the earth movement. It was great. They bought a small acreage with a really old house, fixed it up, didn't mind that it didn't have heat or plumbing, shopped auction sales and we grew up on homegrown, home-made everything. It really was glorious.

I live in a 120 yr old cottage here in New Zealand, and while I have a modern stove - I use the original wood stove all winter. There's always a pot of soup bubbling, plus it heats the hot water and saves on the power bill. The old wood stoves are much sought after here.

My grandmother used to make something similar, but she kept the diced veg chunky and added pearl barley to thicken it. I make it myself nowadays; it keeps a few days in the pan on the stove, and actually gets better during that time; just keep ladling out a bowlful and reheat it in the microwave. My dog also loved the dregs from the pot poured over his kibbles.

For any of my vegan cooking I just use coconut oil for the saute, plus a bit of extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil at the end for a "buttery" flavor. Both times while visiting all through Ireland we fell in love with their vegetable soup. Our first time eating it was in March, 2014, at a pub in Virginia, County Cavan. We ordered it almost everyday wherever we went throughout the country. Couldn't wait to eat it again when we returned in May, 2019. Thank you for posting this video. Hope to make it this week for my family.

I'm astonished by how rapidly the frozen pea ball-bearings softened and cooked through in that non-simmering soup. I don't feel confident about replicating that part of the recipe myself because every time I cook with peas they take just that little bit longer than I imagined they would. So I think I'd add peas that had been pre-boiled for a little bit. If that sounds like it would work out, then this dish looks so delicious that I could see myself having two bowls over the course of a winter afternoon-- yum!

I’m going to make this today. I think I’ll add a bay leaf, a sprig of Thyme and a few pieces of Sage.

Lovely! This has some of my favorite things in it. TIP: keep those peels on! If organic, there's no need to remove those extra nutrients and the peels make the soup that much more rustic.

I've been making this soup on the regular since the first time it popped up on your instagram--it was love at first sip. The only modification I do is seasonning it with salted herbs instead of just salt. The flavours are just out of this world!

@@greenthumb821 it's a local Québec product called Herbes salées du Bas-du-Fleuve. You can google the name for a list of ingredients and there's many copycat recipes online if you don't have access to a similar product where you live. Hope this helps!

I eat a whole foods plant based diet and I am always looking for recipes to adapt. I made this without the butter and subbed almond milk for cream and it was divine! The veggies just sing in this soup! I can imagine with the dairy it is even more delightful. You should make this!

Been holding onto this recipe for 3 years, then FINALLY made it for the family a month ago...and I have been making this weekly since!! While I had to make a few adjustments((non-dairy, so just added more plant butter, no parsnips at local stores, so replaced with Korean turnip)) and it is just sooo soooo good!! I need to make your bread recipe, but I have paired the soup with a no knead, artisan bread, and roasted chicken ...and 💋👌
Just...thank you ❤. This soup is literally the embodiment of a warm hug!!
