Fantastic episode! Very emotional
give lupa a hug man
I think this was the best episode so far
Roshi... all these questions during the Sam turning scene even with Sheera... CAN YOU GUYS JUST PLEASE PLAY THE DAMN GAME ALREADY??? THERE'S A LAST OF US 1 REMAKE FOR A REASON!!! HENRY AND SAM'S DEATH WERE GAME ACCURATE! PLAY IT FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!
What’s the outro song called?
Even when you know whats gonna happen it still hit so hard man
the actor that's playing Sam is ACTUALLY deaf and what's cool is that the cast learned to speak ASL for him. he's so good too.
I hope we see him in other things. I feel like any time I see an actor with a disability I only ever see them in the one role.
This was Keivonn's first acting role, too! Only 5 kids responded to the casting call for a young black kid who is deaf, knows ASL, and is shorter than Bella.
@@JoeGunawanfotosiamo holy shit! that was his first?! he was so phenominal and his performance was so natural.
That is cool.
Thank you for sharing that wonderful behind-the-scenes detail.
He was great!! Definitely hope we get to see more of him in other shows and films
They changed Henry's "This is your fault" to "What did i do" that shit hurt man :(
I think it was a good choice, since so many (including myself) mistook the "this is your fault" as Henry blaming Joel when he was actually speaking to and blaming himself in the game.
Henry also does say "What did I do", in the game so technically they just omitted the "It's your fault" here in the show
And killed Sam faster than in the game, showing he cared about Ellie’s safety to some extent and couldn’t cope with seeing him in that state.
Didn't he say that in the game also though?
@@OhyeahMrKrabz in the game he says it’s all your fault but he was talking to himself bc he felt like he let him down
Sam sat facing away from Ellie bc he knew he would still be deaf as he turned, and he wouldn't know she was there. He saved her even as the disease killed him.
yea i never played the game i just saw the comparison videos. him facing away was one of my favorite parts of the series so far
How would he have known that?
@@ChromaticEagle Exactly
@@ChromaticEagle intuition bruh wym
@@ChromaticEagle Why would getting infected give him the ability to hear? Him thinking he'd still be deaf after infected seems like a fair assumption. [EDIT: This originally said "as a clicker", which was a mistake.]
Technically, Sam is Henry's first official kill which is absolutely heart breaking.
and henry is his 2nd
And his only kill or 2 official kills the 2nd one being himself

Sheera's scream when Henry did what he did was so real. Everyone felt that scream for real
Upon watching tons of reaction....I see now sheera reacts to normal stuff less but to emoitional stuff she reacts 10x more than the others cause thats probably top 5 times she actually genuinly screamed that loud ......and lupa is totally broken from the start even tho he knew it....thats one of the most emotinal side of lupa u can see in this vid
@@GamingBoyRishad as soon as Lupa saw Henry and Sam first interact he was already done... He was already feeling that pain before it even happened

Hey who is sheera?? And what did henry do to her?? And in which episode?
@@divyanshsahai sheera is the reactor to the left. Some of their fanbase says sheera sometimes expects more of characters in the shows that they watch than can be expected based on their circumstances. So he’s saying whenever it’s emotional she reacts better than in normal situations on screen
Nah that little girl Clicker was the scariest thing in this show so far. She was doing some Ty Lee ass shit with the acrobatics. I’ll take the Bloater over her all day.

Ironic that the woman said “kids die all the time” and she gets killed by a kid. The delivery of Ellie’s last little scream as Henry takes his own life in front of her is really well done, emotional af. I like that Shira noticed that Sam stayed deaf as an infected, smart way to keep Ellie in the room and alive over night with Sam, in the game she’s in another room and goes in to wake him up in the morning and he’s just standing there. Very good episode and attention to detail
Let me just tell you all the sympathy i had for her died when she said "maybe it was his time".
@@matijasostojic4288should’ve shot back with ‘yeah well maybe it was your brother’s time b****’
oh wow good catch, I didn't even put that together. the fact that Sam turned around to save her, so his infected self wouldn't attack her
It is funny that she got killed by a kid after all of it💀💀
Daaaaamn. That small detail to him being in the same room already infected, but he’s deaf makes it all full circle to how that scene turned out
🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽
I like that Kathleen was short sighted, and that it costed her this episode. The basement threat was far more urgent than the battle she picked. She doomed herself.
And the people were stupid to even follow her
Yea but i also how the hell would she clear thousands of infected even with everything she has.
@@matijasostojic4288 fire, lots and lots of fire. Maybe some bombs if they have them
Instead of looking forward she kept looking back and doomed the entire city.
She might have also been scared.
It's not every day that one second it's quiet And the next a bunch of rublje is lifted up with barely any Sounds of a horde.
I love the addition of Ellie's hopeful child innocence thinking her blood might cure Sam. I think it gives her some feeling of responsibility.
To be honest if it was a mutated version or a different kind of cordy than that might have worked. But putting blood on a wound probably wasn't enough. It might have even been to long.
I thought she was just saying that to comfort Sam at first but yeah this makes more sense
this and tess is the start of her survivor's guilt. a pretty good buildup for her reasoning why she'd sacrifice herself for the cure
@@herondaless riley was the start of the survivor's guilt
@@yukimiyasol right, completely slipped my mind

Their chat and hug before that big scene already broke me then the ending came...I teared up in the game but this got me bawling like crazy
When u have younger siblings it hurts more.
Same bro. Sam's innocence, his fear. That little child like fear of seeing ellie's knife thinking she's gonna cut his foot off at first. Shit like that fucks with me. All the times he wanted to just be a kid, but couldn't because of the world they live in. This episode reminded me why the last of us is fucked up.
she was sorry because she fell asleep, she promised she would stay up with him, and he turned when she was asleep, man that guilt can eat anyone alive
She said sorry as well as she thought her blood has a cure. She assured Sam's safety after wiping his wounds with her blood.
I thought it was she cause she thought her blood could be medicine
Sorry for multiple reason. For giving him false hope, for that fact he is infected, for her “cure” not working, for the way everything ended.
He turned alone. In his silent world. Just tragic.
@@joal1743 this, I don't think it was the falling asleep specifically
Oh good catch, Sam didn't notice Ellie in the morning cause he was still deaf even after infection.
Ohh didn't even noticed it but i noticed how Sam facing the sunlight, like how infected reacts to sunlight in Ep2.
Even though he was deaf i was wondering why he didn't start like walking
It’s a cool theory, but the infected don’t inherit the host’s disabilities. Remember the old lady who wasn’t able to walk in the first episode started running when she became infected.
@@WPC799 I think that was more of a "She can't walk because she is old" thing more than a her legs don't work at all kind of thing.

I've never seen Lupa so distraught, this episode tore him up. What an incredible show
I was feeling for the man, shit was heartbreaking 💔
he was broken from start made me cry so much
my mans gonna need therapy after the show's done
He knew it was coming....but that shit still fuckin hurts
He's probably the most emotional one out of them all. I catch him tearing up all the time on sad scenes of movies & tv shows. Roshi on the other hand, never cries during any sad scenes. Lol
The actors that play Henry and Sam deserve a lot of praise for their portrayals. I'm always astounded with how so many of these actors can make such a big impact with so little screentime.
SAME THEY WERE AMAZING!
It’s just like Lupa said in episode 1- “even knowin what happens, that shit sucks.”
S tier show, haven’t been this invested in a show in a long time.
pretty much it makes it even worse because u know nothing will prevent it
We be getting some good quality TV here lately. I thought Andor was amazing.
The game has an S tier story, the show is executing well.
@@scottystcloud7086 yeah maybe but imo you definitely can rewatch GoT because the dialog is that good and the action. Too many good seasons to just discard the rest of the show because of a couple of "bad" seasons.
Can we get a round of applause for Lamar Johnson and Keivonn Woodard. Both of their performances were Absolutely amazing to me. With his delivery and the way he expressed emotions through his face and his eyes mostly, man his eyes were so watery like all the time. And man Keivonn absolutely killed it as Sam. The way he was Conveying his emotions just through his face. Man this hit me so much more in the show than it did in the game. I didn’t even think that was possible. And ofc Bella and Pedro absolutely killed it as well. I’m completely sold. Melanie was great as well. Favorite episode so far for me.
Absolutely phenomenal actors
The actors are all giving it their freaking all and I see it and appreciate it

Lamar Johnson went from The Next Step to TLOU
👏👏
@BLACK PEPE glad I'm not the only one that recognizes him from The Next Step
This was Keivonn's first-ever acting role, too! Craig and Neal had difficulty casting the right actor who is also deaf and shorter than Bella, so they posted an open casting call and only 5 kids responded. Keivonn got the job right away.
- HBO's official The Last of Us Podcast
The gunshot scaring Lupa at 13:55 literally had tears comin outta my eyes bro
Anyone who says they aren't sold by Bella Ramsey's performance as Ellie by now is lying. She was incredible in this episode.
I'm sorry, but it doesn't matter how well she acts, if the director doesn't accurately express how she should act, and she doesn't create ellie, then it's just not gonna be ellie. It's gonna be an alternate universe of ellie with slightly different personality and reaction. The only thing that makes her ellie is her voice and some of the writing
@@g_g... found the guy, hornet
@@g_g... Yeah, let's just build a time machine and make Ashley Johnson 25 years younger and put her in the show 😂. Like what are you talking about??? She's a fictional character in the game, so of course no one can literally *BE* Ellie. Bella is doing an amazing job, and you need to listen to the podcast to hear how much praise Craig, Neil, AND Troy have been giving her.
Both of you guys didn't even try to understand what I'm trying to say. Yall are so blinded by hate and wanting to be right
Not just in this episode dude
The Bloaters are the most terrifying thing in the last of us
They are resilient to your bullets and withstand them unless you have a flamethrower
And theres something more terrifying than a bloater
They are even stronger in the show. Those automatic rifle shots were like airsoft pellets. Just run. need rifle bullets like Joel had or like the game, molotovs and shotguns
Just wait for the rat king that's gonna come in season 2
Going through a third run in the game and getting out of the hotel basement was a nightmare dealing with the clickers and bloaters with one molotov and just a few shotgun rounds. I had to stock up and make a run for it.
@@marcradar24joubert what difficulty were you on
Perfectly shows the perils of loving someone too much:
- Henry loving Sam so much, he would sacrifice the leader of the resistance to save him
- Kathleen loving her brother so much that vengeance blinded her, resulting in everyone dying
And this mirrors everything that happens in the next game. Abby loved her dad so much, she killed Joel. Ellie loved Joel so much, she killed all of Abby’s friends and destroyed everything she cared about.

23:06 I ain't EVER heard that kinda scream come out of Sheera, not even when they play horror games
Damn she screamed as ellie cried/gasped. Proves Ellie's reaction was pretty realistic.
The slight nod to Joel and Ellie’s bond was so great to watch. From the “asshole voice” to Ellie clocking Joel’s pattern of saying no before relenting, to the silent communication between Joel and Ellie during the Infected horde. Also loved the moment where Joel eyed the bridge. It showed that he easily could have ran away, consequence free. But he couldn’t because he was already in too emotionally deep.
And Lamar Johnsonn and Keivonn Woodward deserve an Emmy. They had an instant, magnetic chemistry that got you immediately connected. Just a clear case of efficient and economic storytelling. Not a single minute was wasted to get you to care about the characters and setup future dynamics.
Brilliant episode.
a nice character detail at the end of the episode was that Joel buried them. pragmatic survivalist joel from episodes 1-3 would NOT have done that. but joel has warmed up enough to not only care enough about Henry and Sam to bury them, but also to bury them so that Ellie could grieve them properly, because he cares about her mental/emotional wellbeing now too.
Those last 10 minutes were brutal, I never cried so hard in my life. Just having to shoot your own brother and you never killed anyone, good god.
Bravo to Lamar Johnson and Keivonn Woodard they did a fantastic job in this episode.
Especially the kid actor. It was his first TV role and he killed it. Props to him
This episode is another reminder of how brutal and unforgiving this world is, regardless of who you are. Something as simple as running across a group of infected has catastrophic effects to deal with and even doing the right thing has consequences.
It’s no wonder Joel closed his heart off in the first place. The quicker you get attached to someone, the more likely you are to lose them.
Damn, all this people living in that world are the real deal. Imagine dealing with grief daily. If I'm there imma end it day one no questions.
Makes you wonder what is the actual point of trying to survive in a world this utterly hopeless
@@DelusionalNYC And that right there is the point of the world of The Last Of Us. What IS the point of carrying on if there’s nothing to carry on for?
Ellie said that herself. Love and compassion is more important than ever.

On the flip side Joel has started to learn from Tess and Bill that some people are worth saving (or loving). I wonder when Ellie will start to learn that aswell.

The way ellie screamed Joel's name when attacked by Sam is haunting honestly
The fact that Sam is deaf ,which in turn makes him more dependent on Henry, hit the feels that much harder😭

Seeing Lupa cry so early on, I immediately knew why. Remembering what happened to Henry & Sam in the game was the most heartbreaking thing in the game to me. Seeing Sarah die almost got me but I didn't cry. Seeing the live-action adaptation made me remember what happened in-game and brought a couple of tears. Never seen brotherly love like this before.
If you guys remember in episode 4, when Joel and Ellie first get to the city they drive by a pile of smoldering bodies in an alley way. That was the people Kathleen told her soldiers to burn at the beginning of episode 5. Attention to detail is exquisite 😁

Poetic justice at its finest
Karma's a bitch
OMG TRUE !
The kid is not dead u need to be alive for the fungus to affect u so that kid is very much living
One thing that struck me about that child-clicker is how you barely see any infected children throughout the show. You don't expect children to have that same ferocity as an infected. It was sign of what was to come.
that squeamish scream she does the moment henry kills himself honestly surprised me and kinda pushed the tense feelings on another level, congrats to that actress
And here we see the consequences of revenge. A once infection free city is now gonna be swarming with them, not to mention a tank of a bloater just roaming around now. (Episode 4 also showed another within city bounds underground too).
Given that a ton of the fighting force went to capture Henry (and died) I can’t imagine the rest of the city standing much of a chance. It’s so open and these infected are incredibly aggressive.
Kathleen not only failed to capture Henry, she also destroyed probably the best safe haven in America. What a horrible leader.

For anyone wondering how many types of infected are there in TLOU, there are six stages of infection:
Runners : recently turned into infected that have intense speed and prefer to attack in hordes.
Stalkers : infected from 2 weeks to a year. They like to stalk and hunt their preys in the dark.
Clickers : Yep, they appeared in episode 2 that are infected for at least one year. The long time elapse has allowed the fungus to spread all over their bodies, blinding them and forcing them to use echolocation to find prey but the infection granted them enhanced strength.
Bloaters : Well, you can see one in epi 5 and they have been infected for several years. They are like zombie Hulks and years of fungal growth serving as armor plating. But they are vulnerable to fire.
Shamblers : They are like Bloaters but inhabit areas thriving with water. While not as physically enhanced as Bloaters, they're able to expel large spore acidic clouds from their bodies.
Rat King : If you think Bloaters are savage AF, meet the Rat King. It's a unique stage of infected after over twenty years of infection. Formed from several infected combining into one, the rat king is colossal in strength and size, and able to take extensive damage from fire, bombs, and guns. Even after taking much damage, it does not die, but instead, its various infected parts will start to break off from the larger mass and attack along with it. If we could see the Rat King in this series, it is safe to say this is the best game adaptation ever!
As someone who knows nothing about the game, I screamed the same way Sheera did in the ending, I was holding my breath the whole time not expecting that.
Throughout the whole series, I shed a few tears. But this episode, I was uncontrollably crying and convulsing as soon as Sam laughed the first time. This was such an amazing episode
convulsing is crazy
I cried too when Ellie and Sam were laughing in the office boardroom, knowing what was coming.
I was already in tears in that first little conversation between Henry and Sam. “Do I look scared?”
The whole dynamic between Joel and Ellie through the window was amazing. It's like they looked at each other and just knew what to do for each other. Very nice subtle details

The majority of suicide deaths are spur of the moment...this show portrayed that so damn well. I lost my grandfather and my dad to suicide, and I reacted like Ellie did with the cry/gasp. It was so well done I was actually triggered and I rarely ever get triggered.

Kathleen said "it ends how it started" right before the horde came up. That pretty much sums up the episode. It all ended with the infected - the resistance, sam&henry, the kansas chapter of joel and ellies adventure. Alot happened but to me it felt well paced.
That was hell of a director's work. The build-up to an infected attack scene was so good. First they show you yellow flashlight and yellow metall constructions so the colour is on your mind, then the pipes down below. Also Henry talking about how FEDRA pushed infected under the ground, the moving earth in the previous episode...Amazing
The boys who played Sam and Henry are tremendous actors! 💛
bro i was angry crying in my chair in an instant the moment Sam asked if youre still you inside...
Henry did everything he could... Made choices, made sacrifices, made pacts with strangers for a chance at freedom for Sam, but it was all taken from him. He played the best game he could and lost. GG Henry... That hurt.
