I’d really like to see what your hair looks like dried naturally, no products, no styling/no scrunching, just brushed and air dried. So we could see the difference between your hair using this method vs nothing at all!
I’m curious too. Ive seen some of your shorts and it looks like you have some slight waves but mainly straight hair (really beautiful tho!) Like if you need to scrunch and dunk and sleep with certain materials, is that natural? I have hair a lot like yours texture wise and I like utilizing these methods to accentuate and exaggerate my waves, especially the more straight pieces, but I wouldn’t consider that final state to be my natural
She has that kind of videos in “shorts” it is called “how to tell if your hair is wavy without buying products” or something like that, that’s how I found this channel in the first place
I'd like to see as well but no brush either though because it can mess up the curls. Lol random recommendation 😁.When you're showering use shampoo and conditioner separately, when you get to the conditioner part put it in as normal but use a comb or your fingers and run it through your hair, let it set in as long as you can(I usually shave legs when I'm doing my conditioner part lol) then Rinse with warmish- hottish water.( no brush or combing anymore, only when you have conditioner). But when you dry it use a towel or paper towels which ever you have available but scrunch it up towards your scalp, need more volume then scrunch it upside down to your scalp. 😁
@@annajjackson97 Can you please not make the assumption that someone's hair isn't natural just because they use products? It's rude and condescending. Trust me, we are not putting in all this work just to force our hair into being wavy. We're doing it because if we don't, we look like balls of frizz. Wavy hair is weird, most of us with wavy hair can brush it while wet and it will dry mostly straight (but frizzy and poofy) but we can also scrunch (even with no product, just scrunching gently) and it will dry wavy. The reason we have to use products is to coax the waves into clumping into their "wave families" which significantly cuts down on frizz because the hairs can fall into their natural wave pattern. If we just air dry, we usually end up with tons of frizz, especially if we attempt to air dry our hair straight. That's because it's not really frizz, it's actually hairs that are wavy so they stick out. When they are clumped into their little "wave families" they don't stick out. Actually straight hair CANNOT wave or curl without heat styling (like curling irons) or being left for hours in a no-heat style like sock curls or a braid. Adding curl cream and gel and then scrunching perfectly straight hair will do very little other than making it look stringy. But perfectly straight hair is actually less common than people think because straight hair is a recessive gene. Most people have some degree of wave or curl to their hair. If you always have to do blowouts to get your "straight" hair to look presentable, you have a bit of a wave pattern! If your hair gets poofy when you brush it when it's dry, you have a bit of a wave pattern!
This is sooo good! I've always been a little bit afraid/unsure of the bowlmethod but I tried it out today and omg! I've been on the whole curly/wavy journey on and off for 1,5 years now and I've never found a routine that keeps my waves through the whole drying process, but this did! It far from perfect, a little frizzy and only curly at the bottom, but this is the best I've ever gotten it. Thank you for your video 🥰
Your hair looks amazing! I’m just starting my wavy/curly journey and watched your viral bowl method. I’ve watched a couple of other people do it, but your method makes the most sense to me. I noticed that you use a metal bowl for your dipping process. Besides keeping the water from getting ice cold right away, is there another benefit to metal over plastic besides just environmental factors?
Could you PLEASE make a video of this awesome routine of yours, but with air drying? It sure would help those of us who don't have hair dryers. Please. 🥺
With air drying, you just do the same thing but be very careful to not touch your hair or go outside where the humidity or lack there of can affect your wet hair. This won’t work super well with longer hair though as it tends to loosen up or go flat while air drying due to the weight. For long hair I actually recommend going to sleep with your hair plopped in a cotton t shirt. Sometimes it doesn’t turn out for me but a lot of the time I can have a surprisingly good hair day the next day just letting it be plopped throughout the night and it naturally falling out at some point and air drying in a horizontal position. I recommend sleeping on a satin pillowcase if you try this so that it won’t suck the moisture out of your hair when it falls out of the t shirt. I call it my lazy method lol
Thanks for the helpful video! Your hair is gorgeous! How many times do you dunk into the bowl? I also loved the up right suggestion because my hair doesn't transfer well upside down. Can't wait to try it!
I do around 4 times! Mainly you want to dunk until your hair looks like it is evenly coated in product and sort of feels like seaweed! I have a little Shorts video showing the bowl method with/without product which gives a visual example of what to keep an eye out for :)
Hey! Thanks for the video. I know this video got made a long time ago but how do you keep the wave spray from getting scrunchy and sticky on your hair?
Ok so for me I tried the bowl method but it’s hard because at my roots and about 4 or 5 inches down isn’t wavy and my waves aren’t like waves waves Ik I have type 2a hair can u plz do a video explaining what your hair u have
Hey! So hair "typing" is a bit of a flawed system since everyone's pattern is unique and there really isn't a way to categorize our hair in neat boxes. I type my hair as 2A to 2B though! What happens with the bowl method when you try to do it?
@@SophieMarieGraf it works but when I get to the diffusing step my hair gets weighed down cuz it’s thick and all my curls only happen at the mid to ends
@@Bellabeauty_16 gotcha! So sometimes that is just our curl pattern-some waves/curls just need length to form and that’s okay! But things like really squeezing as much water out while microplopping can help remove weight, and you can also try using your other hand to cup the rest of your hair up towards you scalp while you’re doing the pixie diffusing. Another alternative for this is diffusing on your bed or a table which would also keep the hair scrunched up!
Hi! I just discovered you here and I am wondering how you comb your hair to keep the waves until the new wash. Do you add water, products while doing it?
i love this video you are so thorough with the details and methods!! do you have any tips for somoone with long hair? like 34 inches long thats from the top of my head to the ends of my hair wavy ish ? ive gone through so many videos and the people doing curly hair routine have really short hair!
my hair is SO wavy when i initially put curl cream in while my hair is still wet. but my waves disappear if i let my hair air dry after putting in my mousse. the only way i actually get any results is if i diffuse my hair - which is fine, but my hair is so thick it takes an hour plus to get it dry enough, and air drying takes like 5 hours. any tips?
Were you able to find something that works? I have super thick hair too and try to style damp now to save time and so the waves don't get too weighed down but not really ideal still and not getting the definition I want
@@LL-et3yk unfortunately no 😅 the only thing that helped me was getting my hair cut short by someone who knows how to cut curly/wavy hair. she was able to trim my hair according to my curl pattern so it's no longer so heavy.
My hair doesn't roll well. I dunk it and it brings it all forward and then when I go upright it's all still stuck forward and doesn't want to move back again. So it dries kinda forward and when I move it back it just looks bad. So frustrating
Hey sophie, great video❤ I am a freshi in CGM ,my longer hair section usually gets weighed down the next day can that be because of hold product mouse, should i start using gels(which i am not sure why i am not comfortable with)?just need your expert advice
Hi! You *could* try using gels but if you prefer mousse there should be a way to work with it :) Depending on how new you are, it can take some time for your waves/curls to really pop out if you’ve been heat styling for years. The more consistently you style your natural texture the better it comes out! If it’s feeling weighed down and product-y though, you might be using too much curl cream or leave in! The hydrating products can easily weigh down our hair :) Too much mousse would make your hair feel heavy and sticky!
Thank you so much for your advice! I find your tips and videos very helpful. You were one of the UA-camr’s who’s videos encouraged me to give a shot to CGM. Will try to figure out the issue with time as I follow the routine :) ❤️Thanks again✨

A visual really isn’t helpful and IMO is more misleading-it depends so much on your bowls shape, length of hair, density, etc. that’s also why I don’t highlight product amounts and instead talk about what you want your hair to feel/look like when using the right amount! Like I say here just see how much you need that let’s you fully submerge your hair!
When I brush my hair (when it’s wet before using the bowl method) it already removes quite a bit of the wave pattern… (And it still gets frizzy after 1-2 days even with wrapping it at night)
It’s normal for your hair to loose wave or curl when brushing wet! What really matters is how it dries :) For frizz I’d recommend using a hair oil in the AM (glaze over the top, scrunch into the ends). You could also try using a bit more of your hold product on washdays to really help keep the frizz at bay! In the summer I was layering my gel and a mousse and it really helped combat the 100 degree Texan humidity haha :)
