I do a modified version of this but I'm too lazy for a bowl i just cup my hands together, fill them with water and then like dip each clump in for a second.
Honestly I don't do it every time, but when I do, I really see a difference. I usually just run my hair under the shower and squish like that. Personally I also use a comb to unstick the back of my head and tame some wet frizz
You should give a final scrunch after you have wet plopped. It will scrunch out the excess water which will decrease your dry time without affecting the results.
I have heard of this method but thought it sounded like a pain. But now that the hair guru has demonstrated it I might give it a try. I don’t try anything until Courtney or Mel has shown us the way!
Courtney! Please please don't say you need to stop being goofy! To be honest, I love all your video's with all the tips and tricks, but what really keeps me watching all your video's is your goofy personality. You make it fun! Thank you for being you and please don't feel like you need to hold anything back!
It would be cool to see this method with different products, like Inahsi and Jessicurl, to see how much of this washday was the products and how much was the method. Amazing hair!
I started experimenting with thr bowl method a few weeks ago while I was testing out different product combinationa. I have 2a/b, fine wavy hair and it really does make a difference!
Courtney: "My hair is so pretty today!" Me: "Your hair is pretty EVERY day!" 😆 I mean, yes, you had excellent results with the bowl method, but seriously - I would LOVE to have your hair any day!
I agree her hair is beautiful! But that shine has a lot to do with the light. Speaking as someone whose hair looks gorgeous in photos when a light source is directed at it but in real life... it's just "okay" :D
That foam and their feather light protein cream have given me the BEST hair days! I lightly top the foam with my fav gel (not a curlsmith gel) for hold and have consistently gotten to day 4 hair that looks GREAT, and even pushed it to day 5 a couple times (though not as great by then, but still, DAY 5!!!)
Do you plan to do a steam refresh video? I know manes by Mel has talked about it, but other than that I haven’t seen a lot of other curly/wavy influencers talk about it. Being a wavy girl I love watching your videos as they seem more relatable to me.
This method is my holy grail! Fine and looooooooow porosity hair. I do usually add clean water to the bowl instead of the “run off” from the leave-in to make the soup a little lighter haha
Looks so shiny and voluminous! I need to try this! I always have the issue with hair falling in front of my face and getting plastered to my scalp when I style upside down...
I guess the wet plopping made your hair wetter than usual when you diffused. Maybe that's why it took longer to dry. I wonder if the bowl made any difference, I wonder if it's not the wet plopping that did 🤔 just wondering :))) Anyhow! Great video, as usual! Your hair is beautiful!!! You're a beautiful person!!!
Hi Courtney! I really makes me happy how happy you are! Your hair looks so beautiful. I wanted to thank you for this video. It's a long video but i actually enjoyed it that way. You showed exactely how did everything and i could never understand the bowl method. All those Tiktok and Insta Videos where to short and i could never fogure it out. So thank you for this detailed video. I will definitely give this a try again. And you are so wonderfully weird, don't hide it!!! Lots of love from Turkey! 🙂
I do it! My hair is coarse low porosity so it loses water easily and it’s always looking for moisture and this has helped define my waves! The bowl method saved me from stopping.
Thank you for this video Courtney! You’re so fun to watch ☺️ PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do this again with dry plopping instead of diffusing for us folks that don’t have a diffuser!
Found myself to be struggling with my natural hair lately so I went back to blowdrying it with a round brush again. This video makes me wanna try out the bowl method!
I want to try ALL the curlsmith. I got the featherlight protein cream and lloooovvvvvveeeee it. Worried their more moisturizing products will too heavy for my very fine low density hair though
My hair soaks in moisture like it's its job. I'm intrigued, but unsure of how my hair would react. I worry it would be too moisturizing. During more humid months, I use protein rich shampoo and conditioner to balance the moisture every wash day. So, I may give this a try. But, my hair tends to lean towards over moisturized as it is. I have recently been steam refreshing my hair and a lot of the time, I need no water or product. I bought a facial steamer and it works great!
I’ve kind of done this before, but with the shower cap I used for my deep conditioner. I’ll rinse it out, pour in water, and dip my hair in clean water between each product. This seems to keep my hair sufficiently wet and make sure product gets everywhere evenly.
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney i got so inspired so i tried it myself and im not happy at all with the results 😂 ive been trying to embrace my natural curls with products that are not considered CG-friendly but now.. ive placed an order with products that are. they are so hard to come by in sweden. all I see on IG, UA-cam and so on i cant buy. but i'll do my best! we all start some where right?
Definitely running out to buy a big plastic bowl! My hair is high porosity (from coloring it), and I’m thinking this method might be just what I need to get nice big curl clumps. How do you think those Curlsmith products would work on high porosity, dense 2c/3a hair? Thanks so much for this video! Your hair looks especially gorgeous!!!
I would love to see a remake of your old one brand wash days (like inahsi or bounce curl) to see how your hair has changed and responds now to those products.
I've basically just started my curly journey and my coworker recommended I do this! I love that I've found your channel and am so excited to be able to know how to take care of my clients hair better and my own🥰 curly hair is awesome!
I just tried the bowl method and OMG!! I have juicy clumps that I've never had. Been doing the CG method for about 4 months. This is exciting! and my hair took FOREVER to dry.
It looks incredible! So shiny and beautiful! I've been using the bowl method lately and I've been getting really good results. The product distribution is perfect
I have done the bowl method with my rinse out conditioner but not with stylers. I'll have to try this b/c your hair is ROCKIN' !! I mean your hair always looks great but this is like Courtney Great Hair 2.0.
I first learned of the bowl method in super long hair communities for thoroughly conditioning hair that is too long to easily reach. It got picked up by users with shorter (than knee) hair though because it seems to help get hair nicely moisturized. Especially those super old ends. I think it's interesting to see this used for styling. And that it seems to be liked for many of the same reasons the long hair forum I was on liked it (distributing product and moisture).
After seeing this video, I tried this method out yesterday and was very happy with the results! Bouncy moisturized and consistent curls! I also tried using mousse and gel together like you do, and I think that definitely helped get more definition and volume. Definitely a win in my books.
You give me soooo much hope!! I started the curly girl method last summer. I knew I didn’t have completely straight hair but didn’t know it was curly!! But it can be frustrating at times. However, your videos have become my lifesaver!! Thanks so much! 😍
I didn’t wet plop, and waited 15-20 minutes until I micro-plopped ( a la Curl Maven) and then diffused until mostly dry. Waiting that 15-20 minutes really cut down on the drying time! I was amazed.
This is so perfect you posted this today. I planned to try the bowl method this weekend! I have more coarse hair and have always/continued to deal with halo frizz. Growing up I always slapped a lot of conditioner on and am now learning I’ve probably never probably hydrated my hair. Loved this video and that you loved your hair so much! It looks awesome
I’ve been doing the bowl method for maybe a year now. Long enough that my husband no longer eyerolls at the ginormous bowl in the shower. 🤣 It’s great for hydration and even better for not losing big clumps of expensive product down the drain,
They do sell in Europe!! I straight up use their website (eu.curlsmith.com) to buy my curlsmith products. Also some retailers will stock random individual products if you search for them sometimes.
You were right. It was way too soft. Didn't hold or last. But, interestingly my hair was so conditioned following this and the curl was much tighter. It was a day/night difference.
I have fine/medium strands of high density, low porosity wavy/curly hair and the bowl method was a game changer for me. I use it whenever I apply conditioner (regular/deep/leave-in) to help get my hair really hydrated (although I rake and brush rather than roping), and also if I use a cream. I dry plop and then glaze my custard/gel over afterward, otherwise my hair takes forever and a half to dry. Your hair is so gorgeous with this method. It looks so happy - though I think the haircut helped too! I'm a little curious: do you think using more protein products would counteract the extra hydration to keep it from potentially over-moisturizing your hair? Or does it not work that way?
you could have just added a colored towel underneath the bowl so we could see a little better! Thanks for your channel! I'm brand new to wavy hair as I never realized I actually had wavy hair and thought I had straight hair with waves underneath!
So, I'm quite new to CGM, and have been watching A Lot of videos, just have to say, yours always crack me up! Love your quirkiness. And yes, as someone with fine, low density, porosity-yet-to-be-determined hair, I am making a beeline to my local shops to acquire a nice lightweight wide bowl!
Your hair looks amazing ❤️. I wonder if your drying time would reduce if you also plopped after microplopping? Also wonder if you did a bit of smasters with gel or mousse would the curls hold up longer? My hair is fine and wavy curly and I have been trying that to get some more hold.
You did a good job at taking care of your natural hair. No need to fry it with a blowdry or iron it to oblivious realms. Wavy hair is a look. Get and use some 100% silk pillowcases (or satin) and this will be a game changer for your skin and hair.
Your curls are popping! Omg the bowl method has been out for quite some time and I have yet to try it.Although I’ve never had issues with curl definition. No matter what I do I still have thin clump, spiral curls.

I do this often! I have to be careful tho cause I can over moisturize very quickly if I’m not
You should give a final scrunch after you have wet plopped. It will scrunch out the excess water which will decrease your dry time without affecting the results.
We should officially rename this as the Scrunch N Dunk Method
absolutely
