Use a cotton t-shirt or microfibre towel •Product; build up (thick products). Use clarifying shampoo with sulphates (Waveyer hair rather than curly) •For wavy hair don’t weigh it down with thick products. Use lighter products like a curl milk/ wave styler or use a small amount of product. •Don’t strip hair; make sure to moisturise hair. Do hair masks and don’t use sulphates too often. •Application; for wavy don’t rake because it pulls on the waves. Smooth product over hair and scrunch. If you apply the product when wet and are scrunching you will cover all hair. (For 2a apply product on damp hair)

I recommend using styling products that activates with water. When you want to redefine your waves just spray some water to your hair, comb then scrunch and your waves will be just like first day !
I just recently started brushing my fine hair again after 15 years of not. I am very happy that I started again and I don't see any harm in doing it before I wash my hair. I am gentle with my hair, no breaking and it feels so good. I think some of the curly girl rules are just that...rules and nothing more. I will continue with the brushing. Some days I wake up and my hair looks horrible, so I brush it and mist it and scrunch it and it looks SO MUCH better! I was afraid to brush my hair because of the CG rules. I'm glad that I broke the rules. Everyone's hair is different, no need to be stuck in legalities.
Girl since I was a teenager and my waves came in I've always brushed it before styling. Weather it's straight out of shower or on second day hair. There's no way I can go without brushing my hair. It looks matted and stuck to my head when I try and refresh without brushing first. To each his own but brushing is something that I have to do lol
Can you show us tricks for waves with short hair? I think my hair type is more like yours but I don't know how to get my waves to comes out and not be frizzy and dry or weighed down and build up.

Using a wide tooth comb in the shower while your hair is wet AND has conditioner in it works sooooooo well! The conditioner helps the tangles slip out😁
Here's my advice: before I get to the shower I put some oil on hair (it can be coconut oil, argan oil, or olive oil) and when about to wash it, I brush my hair to detangle it (sorry for my English, that's not my first language, Portuguese is).
I like change too and I think I have 2b and in some areas I feel I have 3a curls but my hair used to be alot more curly but like you said I cant stick to one thing I love change I like dying my hair and I am a product junkie
You’re the first person I’ve heard that’s mentioned your bottom layer curls getting flattened by plopping - I also have short curly hair and have the exact same problem. How do you avoid plopping and still get curl definition?
I don’t know why people don’t talk about it! I just do a lot of scrunching & use strong hold products.. if you haven’t tried a gel cast yet, you should! It works great for definition. I have a video about it here on my channel 😊
You can also try micro-plopping which is basically open-handed scrunching with a tshirt. I have short curly hair and I do plop for a short time followed by micro-plopping. I learned this from the Fit Kat Style channel.
Thank you for sharing. It is a frustrating journey trying to figure out my hair. I've spent 25 years brushing my hair out and straightening so I must be patient as it does look like yours!
Yes to less product! One thing my hair does really well with is a leave in mask as a styler. I personally love the Garnier banana hair mask. I condition as nornal, rinse and then smooth and scrunch in more of the banana mask and my hair LOVES it. I get lightweight and defined and healthy looking waves and curls.
I'm really excited to find this video because I feel like you're the first wavy gal I've found with hair that looks EXACTLY like mine- length, texture, and curl pattern all match to a T!!
I'm so happy I found your videos. The first one I saw was when you had long hair and explained how you take care of your curly hair. My hair it's just a mess and I know it needs care and love. Yeah, I just wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge and I'm going to start taking care of my hair, I just ordered a few things in Amazon that I hope can help me.
After having COVID 19 I lost a lot of hair and the new one is wavy, too wavy in some areas.. it’s driving me crazy.. so far these are the best recommendations I have heard.. now I have to apply them and see if they work for me... fingers crossed 🤞🏼
My hair is similar to yours and this is so helpful, I've been using so many heavy products and not clarifying enough and it weighs down everything. This might be saving my waves and curls! Thank you!
You have beautiful hair! I’m just trying to figure out what to do with my hair. The bottom layers at the back have strong 2a-2b waves that hold up easily until next wash day (3-4 days) without me doing anything special, or even brushing or using a concentrator with the blow dryer. Unlike the front and top layers, which are basically straight, only clumping a little, and scrunching makes them look rather just untidy. I tried to do pin curls on them, but they don’t really hold them. I’ve never had wavy hair on my whole head, so I wonder if it could be any wavier at all. Watching all those curly-wavy videos I started to use SLS free shampoo and I feel the difference while washing, it isn’t as drying. Maybe my hair is a bit damaged despite feeling nice after conditioning. It does need protein, my fine hair becomes a tangled mess without it (mainly the wavy part), that one I’ve already figured out. Anyone had the same experience?
i have the same problem! really strong waves/curls in the back of my head and underneath but on the sides/top of my hair it's pretty straight-ish or it gets straight really easily. the struggle of not having the same texture throughout all the hair is real XD
I'm glad I found this video! All the other curly/wavy hair videos I've watched are made by people with long hair. Since I have short hair, much like yours, my expectations for my hair are skewed by those standards EDIT: I agree that plopping doesn't work as well on short hair. (I think my curl pattern is only a 2A.) I've only attempted it twice (once with a t-shirt and once with a silk cap), but neither method gave me consistent looks. Right now I'm trying air drying my hair, and so far the results are better than plopping/sleeping with wet hair
Hair videos are 12/10! So hard to find 2B/C wave videos on UA-cam and I find looking after waves is different than looking after curls! You're so informative and I think it's great content!
Great video!! I have 2A/B hair & dont know what curly girl method is but I 1) spray my hair with water like 1x a day or 2x to help with styling(wetness makes waves come out) h then apply products 2) Shampoo once every 1-2 weeks with gentle Talieah Wajid or Creme of Nature shampoo 3) Deep condition every Saturday night with mixture of Koils of Nature + Miss Jessies + Mixed Chicks deep conditioner, Castor + Peppermint + Coconut Oils, & Sulfur 8 & Blue Magic greases and sometimes some other things. 4) After I wet my hair in the morning with a spray bottle with water + leave in conditioner mixture, I put on Miss Jessies or Curls leave in conditioner, then Curls Gelle or Ecostyle. I crunch it in, I don't smooth it on. 5) I never comb or brush. I jist dont like it. It works best for me. I just found out diffusers existed 😬🥺 I am going to buy one soon!!
i think i have pretty similar hair to yours (or at least how i want my hair to get) and i'd love if you made a video about your favourite products that would be so helpful!
I have curly/wavy hair too and I find I need to do a proper shampoo step every wash because of how much build up I get. I use curly girl friendly shampoos but I find it so weird how little focus there is on clarifying in the curly girl method: it seems to be one of the most forgotten aspects! Really loved this video! Very helpful!
I have dry scalp/skin and even I think it's so important to use a clarifying shampoo periodically if you are doing the curly girl method. But I'm not an expert so who knows 🤷♀️ I'd love to ask some hair experts and dermatologists about the CG method
Hey, could you give us some tips on how hydrate our hair? like masks, deep conditioners (natural or not)... Yours looks so shiny, soft and smooth, and I'd really love to know how did you archieve it because right now mine is just eh, frizzy and not soft or smooth at all. Just shiny on my first day of washing it:(
I have your hair type, which I think is ideal. I can wear it straight or wavy depending on the way I style it. My hair is longer right now, but I have had it shorter in the past.
I am so new to this I just discovered that my hair is wavy and I had no idea what to do.. and then i discover this video.. I love this video so much.. it gave me so much guidance to how to take care of my hair..
I agree with you cause everyones hair is different, but probably for those who have really curly hair it does work better following the cgm. I love your hair 💞
I went to grade school w/someone w/your name. First time I have ever seen it other than her. She was my 2nd grade friend & we lost touch. Wish I could find her. Anyway, also trying to find my pattern & having trouble. Thx for this trip down memory lane.
Great video and helpful tips I want to try on my type 2 gray hair. I have struggled my whole life with my hair and styles that never were for my real hair type. This is liberating for me!
I love your video, I agree I always use neem oil to detangle l. I detangle first with fingers then wide tooth comb then brush before shampoo. I am Nicaraguan Haitian American mix with black ethnic wavy/cruly 23 inch hair. I am in a hair growth and weight loss journey. Thank you so much for your tips. Not a lot of wavy hair videos so this was good. New subscriber 😍
i have weavy hair, i believe same type as you and sometime is driving me crazy but to be honest i like the fact that first and second day is weavy and then change into other types of weave like and feel like i have 3 styles, sometimes even closer to straight so i believe is a blessing and sometimes can be a nightmare if you don t feel like to style it, hun you forgot to mention that the shorther your hair is, the better holds the curls but when is long, is getting more difficult to hold in place the curls because of the weight
You are so beautiful🥰. It's been ages since I brushed my hair. I use a wide tooth comb and very slightly comb my wavy hair. Problem: my hair is frizzy which I so hate!! Usually I damp my hair and use some hair cream and scrunch but then next-day it looks limp and oily🙄
Really enjoyed your video. Been having problems with my short curly hair and how bes t to take care of it. Thank you for your advice and I look forward to watching more of your videos.
i tried for a while to stop dry brushing before refreshing, but i went back to it because my definition and frizz just improve so much when i start with that nice, detangled, puff ball lol. i did it for years and luckily didn’t see any damage and my wave pattern actually got even tighter! not that i would recommend it for everyone, i just thought it was cool that some things work better for different people :)
It’s actually better to detangle your hair while it’s dry. In a wet state, the hair is more fragile and prone to breakage. Now if it’s wet, and you can easily glide a brush or comb through, that’s great. But don’t feel bad for doing that.
Can you make a video that compares having short, wavy hair and having long, wavy hair? I have only ever had short, wavy hair, but I am considering growing it out, so I just wanted to know your thoughts on that!
Hi Tabitha, I've got quite long thick wavy hair and I'm finding knots in it just about every single day. Would you recommend using wide tooth comb on your hair daily? Thanks.
So glad you mentioned damp styling for wavies!! I know this was a couple of months ago, but do you remember what kind of lip stick you were wearing? Super cute!!!
I love your soft curls! I have thick hair, with a slight wave & I'm gonna try to cut down on brushing my hair so much & see if I get better waves, bc I love waves/curls! But, I brush often to reduce frizz...I'll have to improvise.
You are definitely right about wavy hair being different short vs long. I cut my hair off about 5 years ago and I never will wear it long again! I keep mine about your length or a couple inches shorter. I love you wear a side part like me too. Every other shorter hair channel I have found usually part theirs in the center. I have my stylist cut mine parted so if I try to mimic one of their hair styles it never acts right. I have been struggling with frizz since I turned 40 and I am about to go crazy dealing with it. I have oily hair until about 3 inches from my scalp. From that point to my ends is extremely dry. I have spent a small fortune on different products and used several different techniques and nothing keeps my hair nice past a day or so. I used to use mainly a cleansing conditioner ( not a co-wash) and my hair looked beautiful but I can’t find one anymore.
I'm so glad I found your channel, I appreciate your videos a lot. I just feel like my hair is the worst of everything - it's not straight, it's only slightly wavy, it's not curly, it's just ugly, puffy and frizzy no matter what products (or lack of products) I use. I feel inspired to try your advice though, because your hair is very similar to mine but you've been taking care of it a lot better than me apparently. Your hair is so pretty! I hope I can at least get mine to look even just a little nicer, so we'll see how it goes. Thank you again!
It may be 2a? Is it easy to blow dry straight with a brush? If you don't have to flat iron to smooth it, it may be worth it to smooth it with blow dryer and brush. Or try some heatless curls on damp hair? Just some ideas. My hair used to be straight as a child and teen, then 2a at 25 on up to 2c eventually after I had my children.
Enjoyed watching your tutorials, my haired turned wavy about six years ago and I try desperately not to use a brush to blow it dry curling iron or flat iron but sometimes it just looks like a mess, I stick my head under the water and start all over again
Glad i found this video. My hair is just looks like yours, not too curly but more like wavy. I tried CGM once but not really worked for me. Maybe i should try your tips!
With the curl milk is that a leave in thing? In current use Shea Moisture shampoo, and conditioner. Also just got their daily hydrating finishing oil serum. styling wise I just use a light detangler and mousse. I air dry and have done for about 20+ years, and never dyed or permed my hair. Unsure how to use the curl milk. Also thinking of getting the Aussie gel? I've never been big on hairspray or gel as my hair is super thick, & with product it still falls 5 min later. I've got some 2c and some 3a.
I use a stretched out skinny silk scrunchie. Mine is the Slip brand. Also works for when I put hair up for convertible drive. I just do loose pony, back of head. You can also just tie back loosely with a ribbon, if your hair is wavy enough to hold it in.
This is the second hair video of yours I have watched and I am thankful for you sharing these tips for wavy hair types, it's really helping me bring out my curls. I absolutely love your gorgeous hair, so beautiful and healthy looking!
I'm thinking about doing a video on my hair. I just figured out the perfect routine for my long, wavy hair. And my hair has never been better in my life. The best product I've ever used is texture ID styling foam. I have a specific routine, but it's the holy grail of all the hair products I've tried.
Before clarifying shampoo I learned to use baking soda which works fantastically for clarifying my hair. The method I use is simple: mix one tablespoon of baking soda into a cup of warm water and pour over my hair, in the shower, (starting at my crown so that is runs over my scalp) just prior to shampooing my hair. End result is shining clean hair. I only did this every few months, but then I rarely used hair products.
You should try Viori bars to clean with.. CGM friendly and great cleansers. Environmentally friendly and I just loooove. The conditioner is SO good at detangling too, silky soft
I think you're the first person I've ever seen with pretty much the same kind of hair as mine. It's also super oily. I'm interested in getting started in a hair care routine. I've never done anything with my hair and wear it thrown up a lot. Mine is medium texture and thick, just below my shoulders in layers. The top isn't wavy and it gets weighed down easily unless I keep it short. I think my hair is 2A-2C. I love 3B hair!
Anyone else has oily hair? I have some parts of my hair wavy and some parts are curly put I can’t keep the curls to stay during the night. My hair gets greasy the 2nd day after washing. Anyone have any tips on shampoos and gels/mousse?
Go longer with out washing progressively. I also get my hair wet almost every morning and scrub my scalp with the light circle motions. So if day 2 looks shady wear it up or something to make it look less bad. Slowly work your way up to longer periods.
In addition to the above comment, this is where a bonnet shines. Sadly, I use a cpap so my waves still stretch a bit but I have been able to go longer between washes because my hair isn’t getting as oily.
@@spacecat1974 I just brought some good ass hair dry shampoo and it’s been helping with my oily hair! And it comes unscented and scented it cost like 22 dollars but people use it for over 6 months without needing refills
I love this. I just realized I have wavy hair although my hair is very long ...I do the plopping and I was told to use mousse and gel but had some frizz. You definitely enlightened me and encouraged me and I can't wait to try what you said tomorrow. Love your videos. I am a good friend of Tanya and your brother Johnny. You are doing such an amazing job. More wavy hair videos for type 2a and 2b which I think I am
Hi Tabitha. Can you please tell me where the definitions for the different curl numbers and letters come from? Thanks! And btw your hair is gorgeous, as are you! Enjoy it! Thanks 🙏 for these videos!
I recently donated all of my long hair and I found my short hair growing back super wavy and even ringlet shaped around my face, I just ordered love you curls products and tried plopping this morning, thank you for the tips! I definitely noticed a difference with plopping vs not plopping but I wonder what you do then?
I’m still working on finding the best method.. I haven’t had the best luck with wearing it up with my short hair but when I had longer hair I would often do a pineapple (high loose pony tail on the top of the head) but I’ve heard amazing things about wrapping it in a silk scarf!
I’m so glad you mentioned the water thing when applying products, I never knew that it was ok to apply them when your hair is damp for more wavy hair, my hair is barely starting to transition and I always thought I had to SOAK my hair through before applying products but then whatever little waves I have never really stay, I’m gonna try this method now. Anyways my point is THANK YOU lmao
thank you for the tips Tabitha 🙏 Question: How do we refresh our hair in the morning if we don’t want to use water, but we can’t dry brush our hair? l hear wetting our hair daily is not good , l am trying to avoid water in the morning when l refresh? once again, thank you Tabitha 🙏

Totally agree with this..it all depends on what works for you..and nothing else..
It also loosens the dirt and dead skin off your scalp before washing.
Agree! Brushing stimulates the scalp with blood circulation, encouraging hair growth and follicle nourishment. Curly hair *rules* are just *opinions.*

in love with your curl pattern ooofff 😳😍
🥰🥰🥰
Here's my advice: before I get to the shower I put some oil on hair (it can be coconut oil, argan oil, or olive oil) and when about to wash it, I brush my hair to detangle it (sorry for my English, that's not my first language, Portuguese is).
Your English is very good! I personally use olive oil after I shower in my hair.
OMG, finally I found a beautiful woman has exact same hair pattern as mine!!! I'm so excited, subscribed!!
♡♡
I have a video about it here on my channel 😊
i use a microfiber towel and scrunch up until its damp. Sometimes I plop with a turby twist like towel and don't leave it on for too long.
You can also try micro-plopping which is basically open-handed scrunching with a tshirt. I have short curly hair and I do plop for a short time followed by micro-plopping. I learned this from the Fit Kat Style channel.
@@karenn993 this is what I did today.... and really is effective. Would recommend
Thank you for sharing. It is a frustrating journey trying to figure out my hair. I've spent 25 years brushing my hair out and straightening so I must be patient as it does look like yours!
Can you do an updated hair routine with the new products you’re using? xx
Hey girl I also have wavy hair if you’re interested in more similar videos ☺️🥰
melinda sure! Thanks
Your makeup looks so good!
I'm really excited to find this video because I feel like you're the first wavy gal I've found with hair that looks EXACTLY like mine- length, texture, and curl pattern all match to a T!!
I’m so glad 💕 I know it’s hard to find people with the same hair as yours ☺️
Her hair looks amazing!!
Good points to remember ✌️
Since I have short hair, much like yours, my expectations for my hair are skewed by those standards
EDIT: I agree that plopping doesn't work as well on short hair.
I have 2A/B hair & dont know what curly girl method is but I
1) spray my hair with water like 1x a day or 2x to help with styling(wetness makes waves come out) h then apply products
2) Shampoo once every 1-2 weeks with gentle Talieah Wajid or Creme of Nature shampoo
3) Deep condition every Saturday night with mixture of Koils of Nature + Miss Jessies + Mixed Chicks deep conditioner, Castor + Peppermint + Coconut Oils, & Sulfur 8 & Blue Magic greases and sometimes some other things.
Yes I definitely agree! So glad it was helpful ❤️
Just shiny on my first day of washing it:(
These are really good tips!! Most of them I had to learn the hard way, since there's less info out there about styling wavy hair
I lost my curl pattern because of diffrent tunings and you have the same curl pattern I had and I got so sad looking at your gorgeous hair
Aww 🥺 is your hair damaged? You could probably still get it back ❤️
I went to grade school w/someone w/your name.
Just cut my hair to shoulder length so I’m thankful I came across your channel so I know what I’m doing with short wavy hair!
My hair is 3b and it thick and fizzy. I admire your hair so much.
Can you make a video that compares having short, wavy hair and having long, wavy hair? I have only ever had short, wavy hair, but I am considering growing it out, so I just wanted to know your thoughts on that!
I would like to see your favorite affordable hair products. Love watching your videos.
I would love to do a video like that soon! Thanks for watching ❤️
Hi Tabitha, I've got quite long thick wavy hair and I'm finding knots in it just about every single day. Would you recommend using wide tooth comb on your hair daily? Thanks.
I love this style do u get highlights? This is how my hair would look but it takes a long time to grow sometimes.😭
Yes please do a vid about your why and relaxing on hair care rules. Also an updated hair care routine please!
Will you pleaseeee do an updated hair routine? :)
My hair used to be straight as a child and teen, then 2a at 25 on up to 2c eventually after I had my children.
what color do you use to dye your hair? Did you paint at the hairdresser or yourself? and which brand and number of lipstick? You looks amazing!
Thank you for sharing things you've been learning on your hair journey and how you've been open to finding your own methods!
❤️❤️ thank you for watching!!
omg i think i finally found someone with a hair type similar to mine!
Thank you for this Tabitha. Very helpful and you seem very balanced in your views about hair which is refreshing :)
Enjoyed watching your tutorials, my haired turned wavy about six years ago and I try desperately not to use a brush to blow it dry curling iron or flat iron but sometimes it just looks like a mess, I stick my head under the water and start all over again
Love the eyes...do you have a makeup tutorial? 👀👀🌸🌸
Best wavy hair video! You are so calming to watch lol
Awwh thanks 🥰
Make a video about the exact products that you recommend and use
Absolutely LOVE your makeup, especially your lipstick--what color is this??
What’s a good way to retain the wave after wearing up at the gym? What’s a good gym hair style that doesn’t totally wreck it?
I use a stretched out skinny silk scrunchie. Mine is the Slip brand. Also works for when I put hair up for convertible drive. I just do loose pony, back of head. You can also just tie back loosely with a ribbon, if your hair is wavy enough to hold it in.
You are STUNNING and that lip colour is gorgeous. I gotta know what colour that is 😍
Love your hair! It's gorgeous 😍
You’re so pretty and I couldn’t stop looking at that beautiful hair while you were talking 😍😂
Great video, very informative!! But, I thought olaplex was meant to be used on damp hair?
This is the second hair video of yours I have watched and I am thankful for you sharing these tips for wavy hair types, it's really helping me bring out my curls. I absolutely love your gorgeous hair, so beautiful and healthy looking!
Great video, there should be a wavey hair method for us wavey gals
Makeup tutorial on the makeup you have on in this video please! 😍
You’re so beautiful and your hair is so lovely
Anyone else has oily hair? I have some parts of my hair wavy and some parts are curly put I can’t keep the curls to stay during the night. My hair gets greasy the 2nd day after washing. Anyone have any tips on shampoos and gels/mousse?
Go longer with out washing progressively. I also get my hair wet almost every morning and scrub my scalp with the light circle motions. So if day 2 looks shady wear it up or something to make it look less bad. Slowly work your way up to longer periods.
Kayla Smith thank you so much
In addition to the above comment, this is where a bonnet shines.
Wish I could send you a pic so could see and give me tips
Thought your video was really helpful and nice to listen to. Thank you so much for the tips. 💖
Hi Tabitha. Can you please tell me where the definitions for the different curl numbers and letters come from? Thanks! And btw your hair is gorgeous, as are you! Enjoy it! Thanks 🙏 for these videos!
I love your haircut! Do you mind sharing what you asked for? Is this a bob? Thanks!
How do you get the lift at the top hairline? Gorgeous hair!
I need to comeback here to thank you 😊 eversince I follow your routine I have been getting complements from friends 💖
❤️❤️
I recently donated all of my long hair and I found my short hair growing back super wavy and even ringlet shaped around my face, I just ordered love you curls products and tried plopping this morning, thank you for the tips! I definitely noticed a difference with plopping vs not plopping but I wonder what you do then?
how did you style the roots at your ferehead? it looks really beautiful!
you should do a curly girl + dyed hair routine-method(? so we know what things we can add in a curly routine
Your hair is gorgeous!! 😍
♡♡♡
How r u supposed to sleep with wavy hair? Do u sleep with it down or up?
♡♡♡♡
Make up tutorial right now Please!! Love it !
thank you for the tips Tabitha 🙏 Question: How do we refresh our hair in the morning if we don’t want to use water, but we can’t dry brush our hair? l hear wetting our hair daily is not good , l am trying to avoid water in the morning when l refresh? once again, thank you Tabitha 🙏
finally finding a video with good info on my hair type.
