      I don't comment on videos but I just had to here...I was looking for something to get my mind off all the crazy in the world today and i seen this home video of someone with crappy wood making sales of no talent for thumbs and views making money from youtube. I'm sorry for my attitude but like I said the world has gone crazy and I'm tired! Well I watched and you do the most amazing job out of what I would call fire wood so I went to your video page and watched 7 more and you blew my mind and lifted my spirits. Hello, my name is Tena and I am your forever fan now as long as you post...I subscribed and will share I hope you see this!!!

    the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

    I've watched your prior peacock hollowform videos, and I was so happy that this time you managed to get just the right mix of temperature and time to make the resin combine beautifully without losing the colors completely. The final result is so stunning! This really is one of the loveliest resin pieces I've seen (from you or anyone else). Bravo!

    Okay, that is a gorgeous peacock interpretation. I don't know if I've seen anyone get as good of a representation as that in any medium outside of straight paint. That combo with the wood makes it look almost like a weird planet in some regards, if it was a globe. I love that.

      I think Jim should have kept this one for a little while and had it on display in an art gallery with some of his other brilliant pieces he’s made.
      AND, entered his artwork in a Contest to win $250,000 so he can buy more:
      Designer Epoxy
      Epoxy is so expensive. I have several gallons and some smaller sized UV epoxy (haven’t tried that yet). I make home decor and jewelry ( resin and lots and lots of beads that I have made over the past 6+ years. My inventory is out of control and I need to get rid of it (sell it)!!! And, I need to sell most of it so I can start woodturning!!

    That’s so much ice cream!!
    Went for coffee yesterday in one of those artisan places. And they had coffee tables that had been made with resin inlays. The inlays were all yellowed - and I was talking to my friends about it and it hit me just how much I’ve learned from you (and people like you!)
    So thank you for that!
    And congratulations on getting the piece more like the way you wanted it! Looks beautiful!

    • @SpragueWoodturning
      @SpragueWoodturning  Рік тому +3

      No matter what the epoxy eventually it yellows. This is why I tend to color my resin pieces. You don’t have theses issues when it’s colored, I bet these tables were in the sun and the epoxy didn’t have UV inhibitors in it like DE. Thanks for watching

    This turned out so well! I'm really glad you found the solution to getting the colors to remain distinct.
    I love the bold, rich colors you use in your resin, but I also find I'm very fond of the semkitransparent or translucent resin like in "Emerald Green Resin and Maple Burl." Mostly because I love the structure of the burl, and being able to see it is fascinating to me.

    NAILED IT!!! Perfect execution Jim - not only in the mix/cure/swirl ratio, but the overall form of the piece. I was very happy you left the epoxy ring - that really was the icing on the cake!

    Well it's just as well that's not in my house otherwise I would be sitting staring at it all day. The mix in the colours was just sublime. Well done, Jim - I think it's safe to say you've mastered mixing epoxy colours and I look forward to seeing more!
