Love your optimism and your persistence. This weeks piece was great. I have tried doing a hollow form similar with two pieces of Western Rose Wood and it came out awesome. Really enjoy the premier showing and catching up in the chat. I know we are all strangers, but this helps to bring us all together in the wood turning Family. We share ideas and when we can we all have a laugh at each other with absolutely no malice involved. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your turning family. Cheers Bruce
Love your work! Just thinking outside the box. I don't turn, just enjoy watching the process. Just a question. Have you ever considered using antlers or horns?
After all the setbacks that turned out amazing, love the colors and the grain of the wood, can’t wait to see what you do with the little epoxy mold pieces, fantastic job sir!!
Some creators build up a bit of a buffer so they don't get caught out if there are delays. Alternatively, a 'fail' or project in a 'time out' and a critique is a legitimate and interesting video too. It can be encouraging to others to know that sometimes a project can't be saved/needs additional thought before becoming a piece of art!
Hey Jim just wanted to say thank you for showing your working out when a project doesn't go to plan! I think it's amazing to see, especially cost a lot of people don't show it. Social media nowadays seems to be all about showing the perfect life and look, we tend to forget that life sometimes gives you lemons that can lead to something better than what you originally planned!! So thank you for another great piece, for showing the good, the great and the whole process!!
I 100% agree!!! Jim is SO talented. And, talk about “Reduce, Reuse & Recycle ♻️ “, so many people would use these pieces of wood for a bonfire 🔥 or to heat their home (our home in Connecticut was heated by a wood, coal or oil). We went through so much wood. Once I moved out to Chicagoland in Illinois, my Dad didn’t have me to come by and load up the John Deere Gator, which I drove after we filled it up to the gills with firewood. My favorite thing to do was back it up to the basement metal doors and hit the “dump” button and boom, it’s all in the basement and I’d drive back to help my Dad load up again, over and over and over again, until we couldn’t fit anymore. I had been splitting wood since we built the Salt Box home in 1983 and I was in 9th grade. Anyway, every once in a while, I would just have a cord of wood sent to my Mom & Dad’s house. He was SO confused the first time I did it. 😂 Designer Epoxy
When I was a young kid, I always watched the "New Yankee Workshop" with Norm Abram before school. Your videos have taken me back to those forgotten memories of wanting to build beautiful wood projects. The cleaning and purging of junk in the garage has begun, making way for a work area and some new equipment. Thanks for the inspiration. It's pretty awesome diving down this rabbit hole.
I LOVED this project. You were making negative comments of disappointment and I was ready to fly up there to smack you! Every single one of your pieces/projects are absolutely amazing! You should be so proud of everything you make!!!!! Designer Epoxy
It turned out BEAUTIFUL Jim. The resin is fine, wood is GORGEOUS. Sorry you had the frustrating stubbornness of that project. Thank you Jim. 👍 Designer Epoxy
Adam Savage has a tag on his videos where he explains that these aren't "how-to" so much as "what happened". your videos definitely fall into that category (some more than others!)!
Jim, designer epoxy worked great for this turning. Possibly if you had put a plastic drinking straw down into the top of the voids, that would have let the trapped air out, then remove them just before the pressure pot. My suggestion for your future projects that have voids. Jimm
Fully agree with you, some projects just fight being born with everything in them! It's the same in writing or any other creative endeavors I've worked on, it's definitely not just you!
I've been working with Black walnut for a while now. As I've mentioned before. In a different conversation, and I've only had a few pieces that have had such light colored sapwood like that piece. You just gotta love it when you come across a piece of wood like that. Happy turning my friend 😊
Well worth the wait, good Sir. Had to laugh out loud at the 'cantankerous' subtitle 🤣but not laughing at all the issues you had to endure. Have a great weekend... you deserve it! 👍
Jim stop chasing the clock, rushing and creativity don't work, I love your projects, and respect your skills. You are a talented artist, and if the video is a day or two later I personally don't care. Seeing your struggle is all part of the sharing experience
One of my favorite things is when you speed up the camera and start hammering away on the buckets ! I have no idea why, but I always giggle at the noise! 😂
Some days the elevator, some days the shaft. At least we got an episode of Jim vs the bucket. You might have roughed and contoured the edges of the third pour to get rid of the straight band. The wood is very nice and you did a good recovery from Murphy's efforts.
I don't know if in Canada they use the expression "Making a silk purse out of a sow's ear" BUT YOU DID IT! I really like the gold band even it was a "fix" and I really appreciate you sharing your process for working through the problem. That's one of the things that sets your channel apart from others. Thanks, Jim!
Sometimes crafts that challenge your brain are the most rewarding, but sometimes they're just difficult and frustrating. In the end, though, this one turned out beautiful and unique. I think the tulip taper/flare helps show off the crotch grain by echoing the curves. Thanks so much for sharing.
When the casting slid out of the bucket the first time, I thought "that was just too easy". And then of course with the second casting, the mallet had to go to work 😂 Such a beautiful colour combination and a stunning piece - again!
Hi 👋, Sprague Woodturning , great looking 👀 DESIGNER EPOXY VASES, I love the water Lux finish, not sure if I have spell it right. That was fighting all the way., but perseverance got you there in the end. Over the years, I have had some projects making anything from my door to some pieces of furniture, and you draw everything out as you expect to build it and lo and behold there’s something you’ve got.. Great, looking piece of art , I look forward to your next project, I have actually been tinkering in the basement today, trying to make a circle cutting Jig for my bandsaw, so I can cut some bowl blanks, hopefully I will finish it tomorrow and then see what happens. Keep up the great work stay safe. Look forward to your next project , PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN ,
He had you on the ropes in the first two rounds because of a couple of cheap shots, but you remembered your basic skills and came back to fight a flawless round three and walk away with the unanimous decision. After the gold resin pour came back with voids in it, I just wanted to give you a hug and a cup of coffee.
Alternative name: The Cantankerous Cyclops 😂 I know when things don’t go as planned the first time (or even the second or third) it can be very frustrating, but I very much enjoy that you don’t give up on the piece and end up with a beautiful product and some inspiring and informative moments 😊 honestly those projects end up being my favorite because they end up so unique! Beautiful work! 🎉
I really enjoy your persistence in the face of repeated challenges. Turned out to be a really interesting piece. As always a pleasure to watch you create.
Jim, Designer Epoxy Yes, I have had woodturning projects prohibit success, but that is why my son has a burn pile. 😎Once the decision to burn it occurs, I relax and start another project. Your end product is beautiful. Thank you for your efforts. I have learned how to make inserts from your informative and content rich videos. Take care, Mac
Lol. Those Sweet Gum “prickerballs” were the bane of my childhood. My parents’ house is surrounded by Sweet Gums, and they have to be raked every fall. The entire family would be out there for days. I really look forward to seeing them made into something beautiful. (My dad still lives in that house; if you ever want more, I’ve got a limitless supply available.) 🙂
It was a lot of struggle, but you got there in the end. It reminds me of the sand art my siblings and I used to do as kids, where you pour different colors of sand in layers into a clear container (usually a stretched glass Coke bottle).
Designer epoxy. I feel your pain about projects fighting you every step of the way. I’ve had pieces that I’ve started, then stopped for a year. Started again, etc, i think 3 years is the longest I’ve fought, and the finished piece is gorgeous.

It was fun, thanks.
@@SpragueWoodturning I had fun once -- it didn't look anything like you just went through. Nice job though.
Love your work! Just thinking outside the box. I don't turn, just enjoy watching the process. Just a question. Have you ever considered using antlers or horns?
I agree the crotch grain is the star of the show. Great piece. I love how you work through all of the challenges. Great work!
Thanks for watching
Designer Epoxy
I like that you don’t edit out things that go wrong. I think that is one of the biggest parts of learning is seeing how to fix stuff.
It totally is, thanks!
A perfect example of taking a sow's ear and making a silk purse! I love the "never say die" attitude!
Another beautiful project. Thanks.
Thanks Bruce!
You have a very creative mind. Some people would have trashed it. I believe it will become a masterpiece.
Thanks 😊
Absolutely gorgeous! Loved seeing how you worked your way through all the issues! Turned out absolutely gorgeous!❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful piece, it wanted to be the ugly duckling, but you turned it into a beautiful swan!!! I loved the cherry crotch wood it was amazing!!!
Thank you so much!
Beautiful piece. I admire you for showing the glitches (and subsequent saves) to demonstrate that even as experienced as you are, things DO go wrong.
Thank you very much!
Love those colors and the great grain effects in the 🪵 wood you chose. It's gorgeous! 👍🌹😺
Thanks so much 😊
Just so wonderful. My daddy was a craftsman and I love how you calm my heart. I can smell the wood. Thank you
After all the setbacks that turned out amazing, love the colors and the grain of the wood, can’t wait to see what you do with the little epoxy mold pieces, fantastic job sir!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Turned out really nice. Like how you show the problem solving when it doesn’t go as originally planned.
Thank you very much!

Love the grain! The colors are beautiful and as always, your artistic abilities are amazing! Thanks 😊
Thank you very much!
Some projects make you want to alternately cry and scream. Glad you were able to make something good in the end.
Thanks 😊
Really enjoyed this piece, the colors remind me of a sunset after a storm. So super cool, your optimism is so uplifting.
Thank you so much!
Another beautiful piece of art, Jim! Thanks for sharing your creative process with the world 😊
Thank you so much 😀

I watched him too. Thanks
You are a master at creativity. A Picasso of wood turning.
Wow, thank you
I LOVED this project. You were making negative comments of disappointment and I was ready to fly up there to smack you! Every single one of your pieces/projects are absolutely amazing! You should be so proud of everything you make!!!!!

I am, it’s just a little sarcasm, lol. Thanks
I love all of the things people send you!!! Especially the good, big pinecones!!
Designer Epoxy
Yup, there pretty cool. Thanks
The alternate names were making me snort with laughter. My personal favourite: Cantankerous! Love this one! I think the resin colours were perfect!
Lol. Thank you very much!
I think the wood is amazing the color in the Designer Epoxy shows nicely with the wood
Agreed, thanks!
Really nice hollow form. Like the grain in the crock. It fought you and you didn't let it win. You showed it who's the boss. Nice piece. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
Thanks 👍
Another awesome piece, even after all the problems.
Thank you very much!
Challenges inspire greater creativity!
They certainly do, thanks!
Glad to see your not letting this project get the best of you. Great job! Looks good
Thanks 👍
Watching your videos has become a thing for me and my lil girl! They're so soothing to watch 😍
I'm so glad! Thanks
Love the magenta and gold colours together. DESIGNER EPOXY is a great product.
😊
Thank you! Cheers!
It turned out BEAUTIFUL Jim. The resin is fine, wood is GORGEOUS. Sorry you had the frustrating stubbornness of that project. Thank you Jim. 👍
Designer Epoxy
Thank you very much!
Turned out beautiful
Thanks so much!
Designer Epoxy - hollow forms rule!
Thank you very much!
Beautiful as always.
Thank you! Cheers!
Adam Savage has a tag on his videos where he explains that these aren't "how-to" so much as "what happened". your videos definitely fall into that category (some more than others!)!
Wish I had a production team like him. Thanks
The whole process was interesting and it turned out beautifully. Thanks for another great Friday morning!
You are so welcome! Thanks
The dynamic duo, Jim and Designer Epoxy, another project in the books. Nice save on the hollow form.
Thanks 👍
Jim, designer epoxy worked great for this turning.
Possibly if you had put a plastic drinking straw down into the top of the voids, that would have let the trapped air out, then remove them just before the pressure pot. My suggestion for your future projects that have voids.
Jimm
That might of worked too, I think just using a simple screwdriver shoved down the side of the bucket would of worked too. Thanks
Just OUTSTANDING!
Thank you very much!
Beautiful work!!!! Beautiful piece!
Thank you very much!
Jim, that piece is amazing!
Designer Epoxy rocks!
Yes it does! Thanks
You took a problem child and developed a beautiful work of art. Love this piece.
Thank you so much 😀
I can’t see why you won’t easily make 100,000! I watch a few different ones but yours is the only one I watch all the time and the whole thing. 🙂
Thank you very much!
Thanks for not giving up. It turned out fabulous. Designer epoxy.
Thank you! Cheers!
This one really gave you a hard time! However you finally coaxed a masterpiece out of it.
Thanks 😊
A day when you don't learn something is a wasted day. The struggle is real with this one. 😁
Awesome hollow form. 🤩
Yes! Thank you!
Fully agree with you, some projects just fight being born with everything in them! It's the same in writing or any other creative endeavors I've worked on, it's definitely not just you!
Absolutely! Thanks
Jim, you may have lost a few battles , but you won the war with this one. It's a lovely and very unique piece!
Thanks 😊
Good save, Jim! Glad you hung in there as I think it turned out great! Designer Epoxy.
Thank you! Cheers!
Designer Epoxy. Great job overcoming the difficulties with the epoxy! Many thanks, Mike
Thank you!

Jim, beautiful as always. One thing I have learned “don’t ask, what next” you really don’t want to know. Thank you for sharing.
So true! Thanks
Final result was gorgeous, truly!
Thanks again!
I love the dbl channel of resin esp how it joins to one - the dip and rise of the original fill makes it look cool
Thanks so much!
This is amazing. Love to watch you work through issues. So very helpful.
Thank you very much!
Well worth the wait, good Sir. Had to laugh out loud at the 'cantankerous' subtitle 🤣but not laughing at all the issues you had to endure. Have a great weekend... you deserve it! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks
Even though it fought you every step of the way it looks great. Love that the knot shows up when it's lit on the inside
It’s cool, thanks
Jim you are tenacious, never giving up and ending up with a masterpiece. Hava Goodun Jim!
Thanks Brad!
Jim stop chasing the clock, rushing and creativity don't work, I love your projects, and respect your skills. You are a talented artist, and if the video is a day or two later I personally don't care. Seeing your struggle is all part of the sharing experience
You may not care but UA-cam does, if I miss an upload the algorithm will penalize you. Thanks for watching.
One of my favorite things is when you speed up the camera and start hammering away on the buckets ! I have no idea why, but I always giggle at the noise! 😂
I like it too, lol. Thanks
Most definitely leaned something today. Thank you so very much. Looking forward to next week.
Wonderful! Thanks
Great looking work. Nice recovery.
Thank you! Cheers!
Some days the elevator, some days the shaft. At least we got an episode of Jim vs the bucket. You might have roughed and contoured the edges of the third pour to get rid of the straight band. The wood is very nice and you did a good recovery from Murphy's efforts.
Yup, this was a tough one. Thanks
Persistence pays off…love the results…looking forward to a barbed wire project in the future…
Me too. Thanks
Another beautiful piece Jim. Love it.

Yes, we use that one too, lol. Thanks
I am glad you did not give up because the result was worth it. I really love where the resin dips low... it looks like a smile. Well done.
Thank you so much!
Remember creativity always wins!!!
That came out awesome!!!
Thank you! Cheers!

I love how with the lights in the hollow form it looks like a 1 eyed wicked smile at the end
Totally, thanks!
Wow. Just wow. I really like the color combination in that cherry wood crotch
Thank you very much!
I am so happy those didn’t go into the bonfire!
Designer Epoxy
Me too, thanks 😊
That piece turned out great despite the struggles. And I loved the Cyclops comment. Keep them coming.
Thanks 😊

No surrender, lol. Thanks

From lemons to lemonade 👍🏻 It turned out beautiful as always thank you for sharing
Thank you! Cheers!
The lighting from above is awesome. Definitely a show piece for anybody's home. Designer Epoxy.
I think so too! Thanks
Lovely. Your persistence paid off.
Thank you very much!

I might take you up on that someday. Thanks
Jim another amazing work of art. So beautiful.
Thank you so much 😀
Whew! That hollowform sure put up a good fight, but even with all the trials and tribulations, it turned out pretty dang awesome. Great job as usual!
Thanks!
That jug is absolutely beautiful. The grain is gorgeous.👏👏👏
It really is! Thanks
It was a lot of struggle, but you got there in the end. It reminds me of the sand art my siblings and I used to do as kids, where you pour different colors of sand in layers into a clear container (usually a stretched glass Coke bottle).

Jim triumphs again!!
You let that resin know who’s boss!
Thanks!
I've been watching your past videos and your skill has grown tremendously.
Thanks 😊
The lighted resin brings to mind the ruins in Tuulum, Mexico with its temples to the sun and the moon.A full moon amd a golden sunrise. Stunning!!
Thanks 😊
Love using fruitwoods for my glassblowing tools. I was amazed that these didn’t soak up even more than they did. Thanks ~Smile oN
As always appreciated watching you flow with the punches
I think glass blowing is cool, that would be my second choice for an occupation. Thanks
Designer epoxy is the best
Great point! Thanks
I don't know which I love more, the turning or the humor
Thanks 😊
This was definitely a crotchety piece! But it turned out beautifully even if it didn’t behave as planned. Love it!
Thank you! 😊
Designer epoxy. I feel your pain about projects fighting you every step of the way. I’ve had pieces that I’ve started, then stopped for a year. Started again, etc, i think 3 years is the longest I’ve fought, and the finished piece is gorgeous.
Yup, been there too. Thanks
I love watching how do you solve problems.
Designer Epoxy
Thanks for watching!
That cherry is FINE! Good recovery! Thats why you make the big bucks!
Thanks!
Very clever! There are no flaws, only design changes. That’s the same with quilting. Another beautiful project Jim. 😃. Greetings from BC. ❤️🇨🇦
Thank you! Cheers! 🇨🇦🇨🇦
After ALL THAT it turned out pretty darned Elegant 🙌😍❤️
Thank you very much!
