The second try on the platter is a winner. The lemon resin is a great contrast with the walnut. Plus we got to watch another episode of Jim vs. the casting bucket.
My father was also a carpenter a long time ago, and I had such jugs and platters at home, but they never came up with the idea of bonding wood and resin, and what you do is simply DELICIOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
I love your videos, I am not a wood worker or a builder of any kind. I have had a hard time sleeping after getting out of the Marine Corps. Your working process is calm and has really helped me find a mindset for sleeping. Thank you, continue to do amazing work.
I swear you have the best colors. I'm a huge fan of yellow, and love how it looks neon yellowish-green when the light shines through. Very cool design too
the light hitting that thing turned it radioactive! really cool that it’s lemon yellow in low light and neon green in sunlight. strongly mixed pigments always have some hidden gems to show off in your work. loving it 👍
Really glad that you were able to 'exorcise your demons' with this weeks video, and I totally agree that it would look awesome as a backlit display piece!
Lemon Glitter? This can’t be good. Well, I was doubting your choice of color until you put that polish on it! Now that is BEAUTIFUL! It looks like lightning strikes! Very nice! Bravo!
Awesome results, I'm never throwing out any punky offcuts again. Your ingenuity is inspiring as allways to step out of ones' comfort zone and try new things.
The way you made the pieces fit makes it look almost like the walnut was shattered. Love that look. The spots on the back give it character. I'm off to watch the fail video :). Once again appreciate the commentary and details. Cheers.
Jim: Thank you so much for the "Whacking Portion" of the video. It looks really funny when sped up. When I originally saw the platter I thought it was the one you did back when it failed. This looks really nice and I agree with you on the back light. It would look good with a white cake on top of it. Take care and as always stay safe.
Every video I watch of yours is like going to a master class woodturning course. Thank you for all the detail you give. This platter came out incredible. Just beautiful.
Even if the bowls or platters wasn't entertaining enough the fight you have with the mold is always worth watching. As always a very beautiful piece of art.
You know it's kinda traditional now watching you struggle with the casting bucket. That vibrant yellow perfect for highlighting the darker parts of the walnut, really nice. Great job. No Viking funeral for that platter.
I'm glad you went back and tried the walnut and lemon glitter combo it's savage great contrast with the two. And I'm really glad it went well for you. The water lux looks like a superb finish I think I'll give it a try myself. Thanks for the video Jim awesome as always.
Jiiiiiiimmmmmy!!! You never cease to amaze me! I LOVE LEMON GLITTER! The walnut goes PERFECT with it, too! In case nobody's said it for a while, you freaking rock!
The two glue spots aside, which I believe have no affect on the piece whatsoever, that lemon glitter with the walnut is gorgeous. I’d like to see more of that color.
Something about the yellow with that dark walnut really impresses me! I would not have picked such a vibrant yellow, but you were so right to do so! Thank you for another entertaining and informative video.
I have to admit I wasn't sure about that colour of resin but you have proved me wrong. Great looking platter and with the resin back-lit it really shines.
Pretty platter Jim, I think I've watched you long enough to see a third try in the future. Live and learn,if your not learning your not living. Thank you for your hard work.
Stunning piece Jim! I'm much the same in letting failed things eat at me until I re-do it and get it right! Fail really only means first attempt in learning ;)
Congratulations, you won the 45K subscriber giveaway bowl. Please send me an email spraguewoodturning@gmail.com so I can get your details and get it mailed out to you! Jim
Love the platter, the wood grain is beautiful. At first I didn't like the yellow, but once the platter was done the color had won me over. This piece should be displayed with backlighting. Thanks for another great video.
Great redemption! Love the look. I think the yellow reminds me of my mothers lemon Meringue pies! Love the darkness of the wood and the yellow really brightened it up! Cindy thinks it looks slightly alien!
I hate waste, and I love the Way you took these beautiful waste pieces of walnut and rescued them from the fire wood pile. Good job Jim.
Thanks!
The second try on the platter is a winner. The lemon resin is a great contrast with the walnut. Plus we got to watch another episode of Jim vs. the casting bucket.
I gave it a whooping, haha. Thanks!
