I Paid $75 for a BROKEN Xbox One X from eBay - Let's Try To Fix It! The Xbox One X didn't have any power and it turned out the ribbon cable for the power button was messed up. But that wasn't the only problem. There also was no display once I got the Xbox to turn on. I replaced the redriver chip and that fixed the display issue... but there was still another problem: an E106 error.

If you are still having this issue I just fixed mine. I removed the hdd from the xbox and hooked it up to my pc. Accessed the system update 1 partition and deleted all the files and reinstalled the hdd. Then took a flash drive (any drive over 8gb will work) and formatted that to NTFS and extracted OSU1 to it and inserted it into the USB port on the xbox. Booting the xbox by holding for 15 seconds, the bind button on the side and the eject button and pressing the power button. The console then fully went through with the system update. Afterwards i just had to redo the initial setup but all my games and saves were still there. Hope this helps someone else.
Your solution works usualy with e101, e102 or others. E100 mostly is last error code you will see on your console. I had same situation with e100 and it was unfixable.
@@dubler91 I would rather buy a new console then do all this work lol
@@jaradshively8976 Then you completely missed the point
@@h.g.762 I didn't miss the point. A console is a few hundred used. I value my time more than you do apparently thats all.
@@jaradshively8976 What do you think how much time this process will take? 1 hour? 2? How long will it take if you do it a second time? However the knowledge you can pick up is priceless. What my point was is that you can extend your knowledge and you do something good for the planet while reuse somethinh instead of just buy something new that can be thrown in the bin in one year...
This guy is fantastic. Even when he can't fix the devices, we learn something anyways.
Wanna learn something else?, he says HDMI redriver but really they're called HDMI retimers.
If you ever feel dumb imagine being someone selling a completely working Xbox One X for $75.
I've bought an msi laptop for 25 bucks once where the owner thought it to be completely dead, but all it was was the adapter.
@@RalphVB pretty sure something similar happened here: it didn't turn once and the owner said "Yep, it's dead" and threw it on ebay for pennies only then to find out it was a faulty power hub. But my point being that $75 is very low even for a broken One X.
@@asmodeusml I'm totally with you man. An MSI laptop is also very expensive and a broken one can still be worth quite a lot so it didn't make any sense at all, but tbh it happens more often than you think.
@@asmodeusml bought a broken one x for 50 dollars with only a broken hdd.
Some time ago, I've bought an "untested" lot of 4 Wiis with full sets of accessories (that's 10 Wiimotes, 4 nuchucks, 3 motion pluses, some other stuff like lots of silicone Wiimote cases, 2 Wii wheels, and stands)... that's from only 45 pounds from a person in UK (that's around 60 or so USD). Sure, some of those stuff was Chinese knockoffs, but most were genuine, and half of those were from a heavy smoker's home, and there were some battery covers missing... but aside from some corroded contacts in 3 Wiimotes everything just worked perfectly and even read the disk, left inside one of the consoles! I was shocked, because I expected the consoles to have some flaw in each, but instead I got 4 fully working consoles for the price of only one...
I always think that special edition consoles are ment to be broken by dumb people
Ha, ha...it hurts me to see such cool consoles broken
Never understood how so many people manage to physically break their consoles. The FB marketplace is flooded with people trying to sell damaged consoles that looks like they ran it over with a car or something.
@@Nickkkk838 some people are just spoiled reckless idiots man.
And bought
Maybe they got so frustrated by a game they threw it out a window.
Getting fancy with the editing 👍 earned .
Thanks! That's what happens when I feel like I have extra time when I'm editing, lol!
UA-cam exploded when these two giants met.
Hi
Ru there
Can I get any game that you have please
Steve never fails with the *perfect amount of thermal paste* 6:05
That is one thing I can get right every time...lol!
@@Tronicsfix Now every time I put on thermal paste I hear your voice and second guess myself? Is it the "perfect" amount?
Except then he goes and puts on about 3 to 5 times the actual perfect amount......
I mean, every time I've seen him say that, he always put on way more than needed 😅
So frustrating to see it powering on and still not being fixable, grrrr.
Agreed!
Hi Steve,.E100 could also be that it was in xbox insider program as the HDD failed and it needs the insider update. Look at the version number at the bottom of the screen.
I still don't know how people end up selling perfectly working consoles as "broken" or "for parts"
Me neither!
Offten the problem is not imediate. I have a one x im fighting for a while now, sometimes it works fine for a day sometimes for 10 minutes, before showing a problem with your save games error. And after a restart sometimes it works sometimes i get one of the e errors.
My point was, you may think its a good console but it my throw an error only after hours of gameplay...
They might have their Xbox in 'instant on' mode rather than 'power saving', so don't actually do a full system reboot which would fix the problem. So they just assume that it's broken.
It’s mind blowing how some people treat their electronics, and how often they butcher them when trying to fix them.
Great video Steve as always. One thing which might point you to the issue is either checking the log files on a computer or you can look at the percentage of the update. If the update fails at 72% you for sure have a disc drive issue, maybe a mismatch, faulty drive or Microsoft arm ic failure. 58%-59% is usually a hard drive formatting or partitioning issue, 1% is a software version mismatch and 0% is pure hard drive error. Thats based on my experience with these at least. Hopefully you revisit this issue in the future because it definitely isn't the disc drive at fault.
Also, check the mosfets around the hdd power connector and the hdd sata cable itself :)
Also these things can be funny and it might just randomly not like that one hard drive lol
SOMETIMES THE PROBLEM COUL BE THE SATA CABLE
I have never and don’t even own an Xbox but i still love these videos. Never hurt to learn some extra DIY-fixes
Nope, me neather. I pulled a play station one out of a trash can loaded with games and controllers. The only thing missing was the power cord. I had one that fit. It fired right up so I gave it to my daughter. Its amazing what people just throw away.
That guy’s tone and voice is fit for commercials ngl
He is sooo good at advertising his ideas you know!
I'm on eBay all the time and I never see game consoles for that cheap broken or working
Same, I would love to find a cheap broken console to fix, i would love to make the money flipping it, but I can’t afford a broken one in the first place and it I can’t fix it to make the money back then I’ll lose even more money
He might get it by users
@@Dyl_Apple lol why did you even comment then🤣🤣🤣
They're there...just hard to get because they sell fast.
@@Tronicsfix That and prices at the moment are f***ed up. Half a year or nine months ago I could get 120 to 150 Euros for a fixed PS4 (depending on the model) and could get broken consoles for 50 (fat) to 80 Euros (pro). Last week I sold a console I bought for 30 Euros as Buy It Now (not as auction, sorry, I don't know how that feature is named in English) without any info about what was defective and decided that I wouldn't try to fix it (turned out to be a WLOD, I am just not good at SMD soldering and I have the Switch board with a fused on HDMI chip to prove it), it sold for over 120 Euros.
I didn't know that you also swap the chips when you place a new disc drive in. Thanks!! Cool video 😎
These videos never fail to entertain me. It's always cool to see someone learn a lot of new things when it comes to repairing game consoles. Plus, seeing them get taken apart and learning all of the little components that make the console run the way it should makes me very interested. I love your content man, keep up the great work👍😁
I'm a big fan of these repair videos, keep up the great work!
Thanks, will do!
UA-camrs: Bought a broken Gameboy for $1 on eBay
Me: The cheapest thats nearly trash $49.46
Ha, ha...good deals are out there...just hard to find.
That's because the youtubers bought them all
Even though it wasn’t fixed, it was still fun to watch. Love your channel. It’s become my go-to lately when I need a break and want to learn something. Thank you for that!
Thanks for watching!
Hey Steve, I was having a hard day but your video made it better, thanks, man, love your content
Glad to hear it!
Gotta love the vids. Do you have like a school? Or classes to help someone get into smaller circuit boards? I worked on power generator for the Army, and want to repair and refurbish consoles now.
I've got soldering courses: www.gameconsolerepairschool.com
@@Tronicsfix works, thanks alot boss. I really appreciate it.
Love the vids you have inspired me to start repairing all my broken game consoles and learn about electronics
Love hearing this!
I would love too see a behind the scenes video. I want to see your stockpile of broken gadgets and all of your tools!!
Love your videos...I’ve bought the ifixit tool box just to start to try out some repairs of my own but I’m lacking the skills, regards to your channel from Portugal

Great job, always like watching theses

Awesome video as normal! Keep it up, loving the vids
I really appreciate your videos
even if you do not fix the item.
Keep it up
also I would love if you posted videos more often
I would love to post more...unfortunately, these take a long time to make.
Always learn something from your videos, great job!
Glad to hear it!
Enjoyed the video as always.
A great shame you couldn't get the Gears edition working; that is a lovely looking console. Although you can at least transplant the working one into that nice Gears shell. I'd imagine a bit of plastic weld (or similar) to the corner that got damaged during shipping would hopefully do the job.
Awesome vids man you gave me the courage to open my Xbox and clean it 😂😂I love the vids keep it up 👍
Love your videos mate, hope you and family are well! 👍🏼🇬🇧🇺🇸
Thanks! You too!
Love your videos man, you do an amazing job. I don't know if you will respond but which brand would you recommend on amazon for an xbox one x PSU replacement.
I respect you for putting "$75" instead of "75$" in the title.
Known good drives are not good anymore, oh noes!! Great video as always! Also kinda stupid how disc drives and other components get married to the original board by chips nowadays.
i lost count the amount of consoles, phones etc that i fixed because of you and mymatevince so thx for all the tips it really does help
I have a console like this e100 one. One thing I found to check was the capacitors around the hard drive. Bad ones can cause write errors to the HDD creating boot errors
You inspired me to start fixing electronics, thank you
That is awesome!
I love the fixing vids :)
Glad to hear it!
I remember when I bought my Commodore 64 back in 2019. Originally I just wanted the case and keyboard and I'd install a modern C64 replacement inside (which needs the case and keyboard but adds an HDMI port). The computer I got was listed as non functional as is which sounded good. The computer was filthy (I'm ok with that) But what I noticed is that the case looked like it was more or less in good condition as was the keyboard. So I bought it. Then I'm like.........oh crap what if it gets screwed in shipping! Well the person I bought it from on eBay did a FANTASTIC job with the packaging and even did his best to ensure the original box from the 1980's would arrive in good condition. Ultimately I decided to fix it up rather than replace the board. It works great, it looks great. After I cleaned it up, it looks PRISTINE! I'm so happy they did such a good job with getting it ready for shipping. I've seen so many videos on youtube where the guy gets it open and the C64 case is shattered from shipping. I wish I could have given them like a 2000% positive review for that alone. lol
Hey steve Great Job!!!
and for e100 my friend recommended a full reinstall of firmware then update
I tried that in the video
Your work is fun to watch , but hard to do . Good luck 👍
Thanks!
Do you fix consoles for people? I know I sold a one x where it was probably just clogged up. It was overheating. Wish I heard of you sooner. Love your videos yo!
Most underrated channel hope you get 1mil
That’s the wrong board for that case it didn’t growl when you turned it on mine don’t beep it makes a growling noise
Good catch...Didn't even think about that.
@@Tronicsfix Also it was actually a different e100 code at the end so something changed atleast after the chip swap
That wouldn't be in the front power button board?
So, maybe some mismatched component/board is causing the error?
Makes you wonder if someone swapped the board to ripoff a seller.
The power on sound it's not from the Gears edition actually :(
Yes sir. I have a gears 5 X and It makes a funny noise when powered. Not the normal noise.
How did you learn to fix all kinds of electronics? It’s so fascinating, I want to try but have no skills at it 😂
Great video Steve 😁👏
Thanks 👍
Luckily I brought another one !thank god we had a broken one
I know! It's so annoying planning to do a repair in a video...only to find out there's nothing that needs to be done to it.
@@Tronicsfix yeah!
Love Your Videos Mate, Stay Safe
Thanks, you too!
Great vid Steve! Thank you.
Just curious...The chip at 12:00 looks much different than 12:05. I know flux was added but is it possible to heat too much? It kinda looks bloated
That's just the flux on top
@@Tronicsfix Thanks for the speedy response and clarification Steve.
Your videos are so interesting I love them
Glad you like them!
I actually ended up removing my case on my Xbox series X. I put it on some plywood and wrapt some chicken wire around the top of it prevent EMF.
I then added some nice fans all around it, and it runs amazingly quiet and cool.
Still amazing vid bro I enjoy it 💯👍🏾
8:12 - Something went wrong... YES!!! ah, Steve, u r truly one of a kind ;D
3 week of fixing ps4 controller's now leveling up to cleaning my ps4 pro by watching ur old video
Wish me luck
You have the best unboxes
Did you try unplugging it, and plugging it back in?
Thanks again for helping me restore my ps4 i am now 6 out of 6 successfull repairs thanks to your tutorials, very much appreciated.
Wow...impressive! Nice work.
@@Tronicsfix Thanks to you sir , all my nephews brought me their systems once they heard i managed to repaired mine. From simple maintenance to the fan and heat sync to replacing thermal paste and the power supply we're back online lol thanks again.
Very nice video.
I have a question. I'm working on a portable PS4 Slim (like a big Nintendo Switch) and I just now realized something I should have checked waaaay earlier: Will a PS4 boot and run without a BD drive connected to the motherboard? Due to obvious reasons I can't fit a BD drive into a portable device.
I've seen plenty of PS4 mods where they put the motherboard into a PC case, but I'm not sure as to what they did with the BD drive ATM. I think it should work, but I'd like to know for sure from an actual expert.
Great videos. I like it a lot!
Man you did a lot of effort on this... too bad its not working properly.. but your video was great..
i really hope we get to see limited edition xbox series x/s consoles like this in the future
I’ve been addicted to watching your buddies lately....
This channel is therapeutic
I love your videos. 👍🏻
Glad you like them!
Great video😀👍
Thank you 👍
The only channel where you hear the words "Xbox one X is working fine" and "Boring" put together!
After you swapped the Bluray drive, it was still error E100 but the numbers at the end were different. Swapping it seems to have made some sort of difference.
You remind me of a default NPC, it’s cool!
Hello there! I really need one of these donor board pieces. Do you sell them? If so, how can I find out what you have available? Thanks for the helpful content!
I’m ready to see Steve apply the perfect amount of thermal paste on some PS3’s 👍
Might have to transfer the drive arm chip to a donor board to fix the e100 errors. Also check SMART data.
Can you do more controllers? I'm trying to learn how to fix them myself and can't really get any good classes
I've got tow videos coming up that are just controllers.
I need that Xbox! I upgraded via All Access, but I still love that model. I have the box, and everything! I love the sound it makes turning on. Please let me buy it?
Thank you big help
Hey I love your videos and Im hoping you can answer a question for me. I have an original launch xbox one and I think the hdmi chip is the problem but for the life of me I cannot find it on the board. All the traces that come off the hdmi ports seem to go to the apu or memory area.. do you know where that chip is? Every video I watch on youtube is either for the xbox one x or the xbox one S. Please help?
Well.. at least you tried and it made a fun video.
Awesome job man. Hey I’ve been having the same problem with my Xbox one x. I’ve tried everything you have tried maybe even more. I’ve tried 2 different good hdd’s and one ssd. I’ve even hooked them up to my computer and created the partitions needed. I’ve tried to run them with the offline system update and I’ve tried to run them having the system updates pre-installed on the hdd’s and ssd. I’m hoping you have found a fix for them.
Ive seen near the end that you get the e100 while trying to update.
Check the error log on the hdd out (you can connect the hdd to a pc).
Most likely issue is that the update is not able to flash the disc drive.
Try a normal sata pc cable and clean the sata connectors.
heeeyyy bro tnx for making my quarentine better ❤️
My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
I feel like the seller stuck a gears case on top just for an excuse to sell it for more, I couldn't see the bottom in the video but the gears special edition has a design on the bottom to, such a bummer.
Love you bro
Can always use the shell for a fully working console and use the power button for the boot-up sound.
Hey Tronics i've asked before but i have to ask again :) Can you do a video showing how to deal with thermal pads that has been ripped off a circuit board? I've had to replace a few electrical interior componenets for my car because i've ripped off the thermal pads when replacing the stock interior lights with LED. Luckily my interior lights replacement went good on the next try.
So the subcodes of the E100 error changed after you swapped the optical and chip. Any info on what the two different subcodes mean?
You should attempt to fix a 3d printer resin or fdm.(Resins more challenging)
Maybe
@@Tronicsfix I believe you would find it interesting. Then again I have quite a few of my own.
It wouldnt be a TronicsFix video without the *perfect* amount of thermal paste
Are there any dowsides to running console upside down , as it seems having the heatsink face up into the fan blower would be better..
You Sir are a very knowledgeable handsome entertaining man.
Hey TronicsFix where did you learn to fix broken ps4's because I'm trying to learn how to do it. Also can you get a cheap hot air station from amazon to fix the ps4 HDMI port? Thank you for your time.
I would like to see a 10 minute video of "broken" consoles you got from eBay that had nothing wrong with them, just one after another getting more awkward and thus funnier with each passing one.
That'd be great.
You are the man!!!
but when you replacemented between the two chips , how you confined the problem in this chips particularly
Oh I didn't know the Techs narrowed the married disc drive down to the Chip. I thought you always had to swap the whole board
E100 is related to the firmware is corrupted on the main board as i experienced that on xbox one launch day one where the wifi was used for updating and it froze that time. To prevent that from happening to any xbox one is hard wired the xbox one using the Ethernet cable
I could tell Steve was really hanging on to that beautiful GOW Ed. XB1X for a special fix it...
Hopefully he was smart...and swapped its outer shell with the working One X. to at least make his $$ back ^^
Kind of an enlightening video. Really hightlights what a gamble that kind of thing is. Like even if it was fixed the time money and effort put into swapping the HDMI chip puts you in the red.
You're always taking a chance when buying broken stuff from eBay
@@Tronicsfix Im curious how long it actually took you on that project total and then to clean flux, remove and seat in that HDMI chip? Even for a professional its 3 or so hours worth of work. lets say your average pay is low like $65 an hour. an Xbox one X is like $300. Its tough to justify that. Love the channel, I was just thinking this video was a really good example of like "hey do this as a hobby, do not go all in and not expect to get rich repairing electronics.". I do repairs for CRTs and old gaming stuff and it was a hard lesson for me how costly the hobby can be.
It can be a difficult business. The best way to make money would be to start a repair business where you fix for other people BUT you have to be extremely good before you should start trying to fix other people's stuff. That being said you can make it work just by buying, fixing and reselling...it's just more difficult. If you learn how to repair one system and you can fix almost any problem and do it quickly you can make it work.
So though the first one is functioning upon first inspection and test, there still could be some problems. I'd run further testing.
Did you re-attempt the update after the disc drive replacement?
