It's nice to see that, for once, the person that worked on that before you actually had some idea what they were doing. Shame you couldn't fix the board either, but you were at least able to reuse the shell, which is something.
@Ehrnesto. neither does a ps4 phat since it can only take advantage of SATA II but I put one in and does improve performance just not near as much as it would on a ps4 pro or slimm which use SATA III
@Ehrnesto. ps4 doesn't have a sata to fully benefit from an SSD either, still makes games load faster. Even without the proper SAta connection a solid state drive is just faster. Here's a fun fact, the USB 3.0 connector on the base model PS4 is faster than the internal drive connector, so if you want the best SSD experience, get an external SSD for the ps4. As someone who has played fallout 76 with its endless load screens, having an SSD in my old ps4 has been amazing.
Might i suggest plugging the board in when its outside the case to see if any chip is heating up using IR. Iv seen you figure out bad chips that way as well. Might be worth a shot.
Hey Steve check the RealTek Ethernet controller IC. I just fixed a no power lightning struck Xbox by replacing this chip when I found a short on it. It took out everything. Power supply, retimer chip, wifi card, hard drive power data cable and last but not least the Ethernet chip which finally got it up and running. I asked the owner after if he had it hooked up to Ethernet and he did. So maybe check for shorts around there.
@@Tronicsfix you may have. I'm half asleep as I work third shift and was watching some UA-cam before bed. By the way long time viewer and fan of your channel. Congratulations on your million subs. That's something to be extremely proud of. Keep it up Steve!
@@Tronicsfix You said you replaced the Wifi chip because you've heard it could cause this, with a yellow text in the video correcting it to the Ethernet chip. So relatively easy to miss the correction.
So I have a total noob question. When you heat up a component like a chip to soldered it into place, why doesn’t the heat damage the chip or the board? Is the temperature that it reaches only hot enough to melt the solder? Is there any chance of damaging the components when doing repairs like this?
Because the solders melts with a low temperature compared to one that could damage the chip and also it's a very quick procedure. Yes there's a chance to damage a component, it's usually with the capacitors that have "oil"(don't remember the name) inside of them, they are the ones that you see popping on old boards. Usually it happens if you leave the heat source on the board more than you should.
As others have said solder melts at a relatively low temperature. Most chips can withstand pretty high heat too. Yes, there is a chance at damaging components when you're using hot air. It takes some time to get used to.
Love the Videos. At what temperature do you run your soldering iron when soldering and at what temperature do you run your hot air? I’ve recently purchased a rework station…
Is there a noticeable difference in upgrading the hdd to ssd, is there anything needed like copying files from hdd to ssd for it to work and what's the maximum capacity, I have the gold rush one x 1tb and games soon fill it up warzone being the main one. Is there a guide anywhere on your website Steve or ifixit?
Heya brother, when it comes to showing fine imperfections like scratches in paint, using a hard light source at the right angle will make it more apparent. You have mostly soft lighting in the studio, which is definitely ideal for the vast majority of your footage! Even a cell phone flash light at an angle would have made those scratches show up on camera. You probably already know this stuff as a big UA-camr. Just figured I'd chime in as a video producer and a long time subscriber of your amazing channel! Cheers to you and Mrs. TronicsFix and all the hard work you both do. It's much appreciated.
Wouldn't a Samsung 870 QVO do the same job as the 860 EVO? Since the console wouldn't be able to take full advantage of the SDD, also the 870 QVO is close to 100 bucks cheaper
does the solder somehow stick to those tiny contacts? otherwise how do you get such a giant bubble of solder to stick to such a tiny area where it's supposed to land
Lol, I didn't even know that this thing exsist. I have heard about but I thought they might be just stickers. But thanks to you Steve, for telling me about this Xbox one X.
You can replace it as long as you have the board that goes on the disc drive. If you don't have that board or the board itself is bad then there's no hope of fixing it.
@@Tronicsfix Ohhhh, duh, you just harvest the board in the drive bay and swap it out. Hahaha, you’d think that would have dawned on me as you were taking everything apart.
The hard drives on xbox one are not paired with the console? I remember that in 360 you could not change the disc except with an original Microsoft one.
Do you have to do anything with the ssd, or. Is it as simple as take it out the box and plug it in was thinking of doing my sons it's due a repaste so thought I'd do the hdd at same time
I feel that people who felt betrayed at the launch of 76 should give it another go. This vid makes a good metaphor of how they've fixed a lot of issues and evolved the game 👍
They were really banking on 76 turning out good. 76-branded consoles, console bundles, just about everything under the sun. For it to turn out the way it did...
It's associated with Bethesda, so it's not a fault, it's a feature. If you wait 3 years, the Xbox will be fixed, and won't work for a whole different reason.
I would love to see a video about how you keep all your components organized!

@@Tronicsfix a shop and work bench tour video would be awesome!!
The fact that it’s associated with Fallout 76 is a dead giveaway that there’s issues with it.

Even I myself installed an SSD in my PS3 slim and there is a huge difference in the performance the games do load very fast as compared to hdd
@Ehrnesto. Yeah but it does loads GTA 5 in just 56 seconds and you know how long it takes the game to load from hdd
@Ehrnesto. neither does a ps4 phat since it can only take advantage of SATA II but I put one in and does improve performance just not near as much as it would on a ps4 pro or slimm which use SATA III

@Ehrnesto. the port can still transfer data faster than what a HDD can so you can max out the ports ability with an SSD.

The solder is real thin and has a low melting point.
@@98ek9 So it’s related to the melting point. That makes sense. So does the hot iron heat up to a specific temperature?
Because the solders melts with a low temperature compared to one that could damage the chip and also it's a very quick procedure.
