Well guess what... same thing happens with 3000USD MacBooks
I have zero experience with electronics but watch this is oddly entertaining
Till November all the consoles are within warranty Why aren't they applying for a replacement
Was wondering the same thing!!??
That faulty motherboard, would be normally useless, but in your hands it could fix much other ones 🤔🤩
Love your vids, I learn a lot with them 😝
Imagine being lucky enough to have one of the new consoles already just to have it break
F
Yeah. They aren't too hard to find now. I got one the day it came out it's honestly pretty glitchy with a lot of games. I think the ui is aweful but the PlayStation is no better
@@rednecktech9485 You gotta take into account most developers haven't been able to complete their next gen updates yet, we're super lucky that the guys at ID and the guys at Playground are on the ball. Unrelated but even if you're not into racing games you should check out the next gen update for Forza Horizon 4. Truly incredible, even not being a car guy
@@rednecktech9485 awesome that you got one tho 😎
I got a ps5 from Best Buy last Thursday I pick it up Tuesday I was really hyped but as soon as you get it you realize there isn’t many games on it yet.it’s pretty boring or it might be that my friends haven’t been on since I got it. downloading next gen 2k but I use hotspot so it takes forever that also might be the reason but idk.
I'm still watching your videos at 10% on my phone you know I love you thank you for keeping the E-Waste out of the landfills
I don‘t know what the people do with their consoles. I never had scratches on my consoles.
That "YES!" made me so happy
What has to go wrong for a console to end up with a big burned spot like that? Is it a manufacturing defect, something the user did, lightning, what?
I also want to know the reason.. why the owner didn't claim the manufacturer warranty
Manufacturing defect. Chip or board I’d guess. Nothing a user could have done.
NIce job on that power supply. Hopefully they approve your account and you're able to find replacment parts. Seems like this is going to be something you fix more times than not.
They don't sell the chip online so I have emailed them asking about it...haven't heard back yet.
Steve: "0 volt here, 0 volt here"
Me: "yep, that power supply looks dead"
Steve: "so this power supply is good"
Me: "WHAT?! HOW?"
I'm not sure but he might be putting a negative charge with one prod and a positive in the other making it zero?
He said the IC should be good, or at least as not a suspect yet, as it wasn't getting any voltage in. Meaning, the problem should be else where, as it was, in another IC
I remember watching you fix the xbox the shorted xbox you mentioned in the vid. I thought that one was bad but this one...this one was like the "hold my beer" equivalent.
Why didnt the seller send it back to the shop or online retailer? Its still under warrenty
Go understand.....b4 send it to someone I always try to use the warranty (if it still have) if no, of course I send to someone to fix it ;_;
Well if they didn’t get one from GameStop they would’ve been stuck with a 30 day warranty if they didn’t purchase a 1 or 2 year warranty
@@heldscissors4132 man.....that sucks, even there in Brazil are kinda the same 😅
@@heldscissors4132
This is incorrect. Both the Xbox Series X and PS5 have a manufacturers warranty for a year. Having said that, we purchased extended warranties for both our Series X and PS5 *physical from GameStop.
@@Sinn0100 ah understandable
Dremel all that black out, remove the caps and resistors on the bottom. Remove the caps and coil on the top. Leave that rail empty and try it. It works for GPUs sometimes, might work for that too. Worth a shot
Disclaimer: Do not open power supplies unless you're qualified for it.
Definitely. These high voltage, high capacitance capacitors are potentially lethal if the current passes through your heart.
Or: be sure to discharge the caps safely before working on this component?

1:36 -- That side profile makes the XBox look like an old full height HDD. Remember those? :D
How is this not covered by warranty? Or did they get a new one and Microsoft didnt ask for the old one?
"Now that we are all thoroughly confused" steve is hilarious and doesnt even try to be.
Things barely been out three months and they already breaking
Yes, this happens with every console launch, it's already happened to Ps5s too. The question is whether the quantity is outside of the statistical norm.
Each video you learn new stuff about the new consoles and also you get good info/data for useres and fixers like you to go back and maybe use it for future problems
Great Job Steve !!!!
That solder sucking tool is amazing!
Why are people selling them on eBay instead of warranty claim?
EBay purchases without receipts maybe?
@@HNedel you have a receipt with eBay for every purchase but I'm guessing as is with most things purchased on ebay there's no warranty because there not an authorized retailer.
This make always my day good that you fix a broken console
I just dont get it why people actually decide to sell or take apart these things without even sending it through the warranty program... I mean the guy that first had this... If it wasn't liquid damaged he could get a replacement... The other one he got that had no problems at all on the other hand? Why would somebody sell this as broken and not contact microsoft to get it fixed?
People are often pretty stupid
Some people would just rather get the money if it was a gift, like the one that was working fine. Others are selling stolen consoles and people don't want to risk getting busted. Other than that, yes, there are many idiotic people who don't understand what warranties are for.
@@jaredphd5587 Yeah i get what you mean...Well people on my country must be smart cause i never find deals like that :P They even sell non working ps4s for 150+ euro lol
That charred chip is probably a MOSFET, part of the VRM to the APU. This is a seriously powerful hardware hence those MOSFETS could be carrying some beefy current. If you see closely, one of the bypass capacitor on its lower left is burnt. That would have shorted the MOSFET to the ground, burning it.
why are people selling them on ebay instead of sending them to microsoft?
They pulled the sticker off🩹
looks like internal board short between layers for sure, although it looks bad you can still rebuild that maybe, id imagine this xbox was dropped which is why the owner didnt pursue warranty, when it got dropped it lifted the layers and they shorted likely all happened while it was powered on
Not sure why they didn’t contact Microsoft in the first instance
They took off the warranty sticker n opened it. It invalidates the warranty.
@@beelvanbuurenful thanks they must have done something dodgy
Steve please keep up with these quick uploads your uploading videos more then usual in my opinion am I LOIKE it 😂
Glad you're enjoying these!
Why people aren't sending these in to MS for repair is beyond me.
Thats what I was thinking they must of bought it second hand without a warranty.
Hey. Nice video. I do microsoldering, would love the challange for that xbox PSU mobo.. :). Tell me if you would like me to film it. 🤔. Again very nice video, informative as always.
But, can you fix my BROKEN HEART ?
This is my kind of ASMR. Kudos!
I have another idea. For the ones with a bad power supply. See if you can get the Xbox One power brick to adapt some how threw the back of the Xbox Series X case. You would have to rig something to connect the wires to power everything. My brother said see if you can use parts from a computer power supply to fix the.
WOW what would have caused that. Makes me nervous about my Xbox. Any thoughts? Failed component? YIKES. Love your videos.OH yes love your shirt too. HAHA...I'm here because you broke something.
Can't belive it but shouted in emotion when the power supply was fixed
The source of the blue thing is shown at 5:58 :D. I'm surprised you didn't 'connect dots' ;)
