I Bought ANOTHER Broken Xbox Series X - Can I Fix It? This Xbox Series X was obviously taken apart before and not in good condition. When I tested it I saw smoking coming off the motherboard. I took the motherboard out and found the component that seemed to be causing the problem. I also tried fixing the faulty power supply from a previous Xbox Series X that I tried to fix in another video.

The greenish stuff is heat transfered frommaterial beneath the board you see it right when you lifted it off.

Well if they didn’t get one from GameStop they would’ve been stuck with a 30 day warranty if they didn’t purchase a 1 or 2 year warranty

This is incorrect. Both the Xbox Series X and PS5 have a manufacturers warranty for a year. Having said that, we purchased extended warranties for both our Series X and PS5 *physical from GameStop.

For a second there I was expecting a cliffhanger.
My GPU actually had similar goo on it's VRM phases. One of mosfets is blown but the card works just fine without it.. Cleaned it and checked that there were no short circuits
Breaks my heart that can people can let a console get scratched in that manner, particularly given it’s been out for all of 5 minutes.

that greenish blue stuff around the chip is literally the crispy burned thermal pad that the chip was on.

You are genuinely an amazing person and a an engineer. Most techs would just simply say change the power supply and then dump it without actually knowing why it went bad. This shows you are passionate about your work and know what you're doing and have a lot of experience in your field. Keep up the good work I really enjoy your channel.

Yeah. They aren't too hard to find now. I got one the day it came out it's honestly pretty glitchy with a lot of games. I think the ui is aweful but the PlayStation is no better
@@rednecktech9485 You gotta take into account most developers haven't been able to complete their next gen updates yet, we're super lucky that the guys at ID and the guys at Playground are on the ball. Unrelated but even if you're not into racing games you should check out the next gen update for Forza Horizon 4. Truly incredible, even not being a car guy

I got a ps5 from Best Buy last Thursday I pick it up Tuesday I was really hyped but as soon as you get it you realize there isn’t many games on it yet.it’s pretty boring or it might be that my friends haven’t been on since I got it. downloading next gen 2k but I use hotspot so it takes forever that also might be the reason but idk.
I'm a repairer here in the UK and I've only had 1 series X in for a fan issue. PS5 on the other hand I've had loads in where I've opened them up and found the GPU to be badly soldered.Quite a few broken disk drives aswell
My PS5 just got sent back for repair for a boot loop issue. I am assuming that would be a GPU problem from all the info I can find, seems to be a common issue so far.
The PS5 is badly engineered, not surprised.
Brings back memories of working in a shop where we did component level repair. Great feeling when it starts up with no smoke or sparks!

This is hilarious, dude is diagnosing these consoles for rare board failures. I'm sure Microsoft RnD is paying attention, free information! Hopefully they get their butts in gear and fix these issues. Power supplies are crap and even the ICs!
Till November all the consoles are within warranty Why aren't they applying for a replacement

Your knowledge of consoles is immense man I've learned so much about different consoles from watching your videos I have friends bring there consoles to me to take them apart and properly clean them out every few months hell your videos helped me fix a burnt chip in my old xbox one and I got another 3 years out of it keep doing what you do best TronicsFix 💯

scalped consoles dont usually come with warranty since you cant prove your ownership or the consoles could very well be stolen

Is there a reason why the original owners of these consoles didn't claim their warranty?
They were either bought from a scalper (claiming warranty without original proof of purchase is tricky) or they just wanted to try fixing themselves.

Seems like Xbox has a lot of issues. I mean PlayStation isn’t perfect but I definitely wouldn’t buy an Xbox after seeing all the consoles you’ve had to repair due to faulty parts.
You guys do such valuable work. Especially those fixing the old consoles, which couldn't be bought no longer otherwise.

Try to start it with that power stage removed, they work in parallell.
Lol it's work in parallel to reach the total power requirement and there too much board demage as he mentioned and probably this short also take the voltage direct the apu and kill it too.
@@vaualbus search for "actually hardcore overclocking" on youtube, this is a standard problem on graphic cards and motherboards, and they can often run without a power stage that failed. At least it would be interessting youtube content if he would have tried.

I just emailed the company. I'm not expecting to be able to buy them. This will probably be a part that will have to be taken off of donor power supplys.
Please answer this how can you say all it needed was a update when everyone gets stuck on this update loop but no one talks how to fix it. I watch all your vids and sometimes you get a xbox and you say all it needed was a update well how did you manage to update it when the seller obviously couldnt? Does that mean we need to take our console to a different wifi signal and thats it?

Hello tronics i been a fan of your channel for a while and today my xbox one x has been turning off randomly whilst gaming. My xbox is clean i made sure of it, but it still randomlys shuts off when on a game. Any way to send it to you and see if you can repair it? I can pay you if anything

All the Microsoft paid techs that wanted the original owner to send the xbox back to them for fixing and charge your first born along with a lifetime of gotchas for the trouble.

He said the IC should be good, or at least as not a suspect yet, as it wasn't getting any voltage in. Meaning, the problem should be else where, as it was, in another IC

36/50 of them psn friends haven't even tryed astro bot, haven't tried bugsnax, haven't even bought more than one game? There all playing fortnite still or last gen games cod, apex etc.

I've played spidy 3 times, bought godfall over 86hrs, bought dirt5 60hrs, bought observer 2 playthroughs, bought the last campfire nearly finished, bought, bought sackboy 56hrs, bought new PES update, replaying the ps plus collection etc and also played the resident evil visual demo.
3 gamers on my friends list have downloaded the resident evil demo.
I'm genuinely gutted for gamers out there who do want a ps5 and willing to buy games for it and actually complete games.

I completed dirt 5 a few days ago. Cyberpunk 2077 too (I love achievements) but for Valhalla i have to wait for some fixes. Sometimes i wonder why people even try to get a new console just for fortnite.. I mean.. Fortnite... What a joke xD

I guess the realisation of it all, is that 80% of gamers are actually just casuals who enjoy the f2p section on the stores fortnite, Warzone apex etc.
I have 4 friends who only buy playsation for gran turismo and buy nothing else and I have 1 friend who buys playsation only for sniper elite and ace combat each to there own I guess.

@@HNedel you have a receipt with eBay for every purchase but I'm guessing as is with most things purchased on ebay there's no warranty because there not an authorized retailer.

I just dont get it why people actually decide to sell or take apart these things without even sending it through the warranty program... I mean the guy that first had this... If it wasn't liquid damaged he could get a replacement... The other one he got that had no problems at all on the other hand? Why would somebody sell this as broken and not contact microsoft to get it fixed?
People are often pretty stupid
Some people would just rather get the money if it was a gift, like the one that was working fine. Others are selling stolen consoles and people don't want to risk getting busted. Other than that, yes, there are many idiotic people who don't understand what warranties are for.

I've definitely learned a lot from your channel about how important right to repair is. Hopefully you can get access to not just data sheets, but an actual supply for that IC in the power supply so you can start replacing bad ones. That and other ICs on the board (assuming they don't obliterate the motherboard like the other one in this video). Thanks for the awesome content as always!
definitely having the extra parts from the spare xbox will help you be ahead of the game, when I comes to the simple parts they will not sell yet!

looks like internal board short between layers for sure, although it looks bad you can still rebuild that maybe, id imagine this xbox was dropped which is why the owner didnt pursue warranty, when it got dropped it lifted the layers and they shorted likely all happened while it was powered on

The first Xbox has a faulty VRM (Voltage Regularor Module). It's a type of MOSFET that provides power to the APU. The bad news is that they're pretty hard to repair, but they're generic off-the-shelf parts that you can order seperately.
That's not the major problem. The major problem is the motherboard damage.

man the satisfaction of doing all that work of diagnosing and POSSIBLY fixing it and then you test it to find it working again is just great, damn this stuff is so cool and interesting to see! especially since I have my own series X and wonder what can get broken and how, although i think i’m taking good care of it (not sure how to take care of the dust though) thanks for another great video steve!
