It never ceases to amaze me what people will throw away. I am glad there are people like you finding new life in these consoles and electronics. Saving the planet one fix at a time.
You can't blame them, When one doesn't know better, they can't imagine things are fixable especially nowadays with the throwaway mentality that has been embedded in people's brains.
@@patprop74 In many cases, the cost of repair is about the same or close to the cost of a new product. This is especially true with home theater products. So people don't want to waste the time and money on repairs when they can get a new one instead with better features.
@@feebsii7009 I was gonna say the same, selling is far better than just tossing in the trash can. There's always someone put there willing and able to fix things instead of tossing a plethora of perfectly good components into a landfill somewhere :)
Extremely interesting fix with the PS4! Never seen those very small and specific parts before on it and was so cool to see them get fixed, thanks again for an amazing video Steve!
That repair on the ps4 was awesome all that tear down just for 2 screws! You're a living legend! Thank you for saving the world 1 game system at a time!
Not from the point of video but I'm always surprised while watching repairs from you, my mate Vince or even Northridge fix or cod3r The fact that surprises me is that how sometimes a single cap which might cost less than $1 can ruin whole thing (a laptop; a mother board, a console, a gpu- anything!)
@@Tronicsfix it is too bad there is not enough focus on STEM in schools. Plenty of consumers could at least test capacitors and other basic tests before creating ewaste. Thanks for doing your part to teach the world. Your videos have given me tons of knowledge. You rock sir!
90's electronics I've seen SMD caps leak this nasty cap juice (smells like fish) and it can actually destroy the whole PCB. The most interesting one I've seen was a Mac II LC make a really strange whining noise. They replaced the caps and the noise went away, but they had to repair the board. There was cap juice all over the place. The board was getting coroded. I've seen another one with a Commodore Amiga that wouldn't turn on because of faulty caps. In more recent repairs I saw MattKC repair a $3 WII with a dark display. Only thing wrong with it was a single cap. Interestingly enough in spite of it being newer, there was still cap juice, it was still damaging the board. It shouldn't be as bad these days. 90's and 00's SMD caps were trash. The modern ones are a lot better. Through hole caps don't seem to have this problem as much.
It sucks that people just throw stuff away instead of fixing it. I actually tried fixing my old iPhone 5 I got in 2019 when I was 13 and I bought a new screen and battery, the old screen was obliterated, and the battery was 9 years old at the time, this was in September 2021 when I tried to fix it, but unfortunately, the screen I bought was a cheap piece of junk that fried the iPhone. I use that experience to buy quality parts, not cheap aftermarket parts, because it can kill phones the way it did to my iPhone 5. RIP James’s iPhone 5 2012-2021
not so similar thing happened to me when i try to fix my android phone, i messed up the lcd screen, but i always learn and finally be able to fix my second android phone.
I’ve been having a blast buying used consoles, my favorite one and easiest was a white ps4 slim just like this video, picked it up on offer up as is with a broken disc drive, ended up finding Peter piper pizza tickets in the disc drive, easiest fix and flip I’ve had, you gave me that confidence boost to try and check out broken consoles and it’s a blast I must say, keep up the hard work
Love watching your videos, thank you for taking the time to make them and then share them with us. Would you not just fit an SSD into the One X these days though, customers would definitely thank you for it, it makes quite a difference.
15-20 mins is my sweet spot for video length… short videos okay sometimes but this video is like your application of thermal paste, the perfect amount.
I assume controllers are tougher since they're so tightly integrated and cheap that there isn't much profit in each one relative to time, so he has to do a boatload of them at once.
Great video like always. I did want to say though be careful with the profit section. You don't factor in ebay fees and shipping. So unless you deal locally in cash the profit is more like $25 on the xbox which your time is worth way more than that.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, thank you for making these videos they are very detailed and worth watching! You make it very interesting to watch 😁
Very nice fix again Steve, specially the problem of the disc was very interesting and i've never seen this problem before so was very nice to learn that. Next time checking/changing the hdd on the xbox first could save you a lot of time and money on the redriver chip but also very nicely done, love the micro soldering iron it really handy. Keep up the great fixes and video's. Also i heard thst Apple is giving scematics and parts to repair people now for iphone 11, 12 and 13 so looks like a big win for the right to repair. 🥳
I am from Bulgaria and almost always you post new video when my working week is over. Wanted to mention that is is a nice way to start my weekend. Keep up the great work :)
I learned something about this type of disc drive, these little switch. Well thank you Steve, somehow, I feel confident in opening one to look around. I may find the inspiration I need to open my car's old radio.
glad you mentioned your time would normal be part of your costs.. (computer tech here) people like to think we work for free and only charge for parts. .. =)
I just landed a $70 Original Black PS4 that was just dirty and delivered, cleaned and new Thermal Paste and Pads working Flawless recieved it on 8.00 firmware and Jailbreaking it today
bought PS4 Pro for $120 almost week ago, been watching your videos just to see how I generally take it apart and clean it. Such a shame the console hasn't even been shipped yet, seller is lazy idiot
@@Tronicsfix It's almost like fraud, seller is not willing to communicate, has only mentioned about waiting for the money to show up, which is bullshit

When I watch Steve buying for cheap, easliy reparing the consoles, I want to do same, but then I got to something simillar to eBay and I find out that broken consoles are sold for almost exactly same price as working one, or for cheap when the console was already thru a repair guy. We have in Poland too many of repair guys lol.
Doesn't surprise me. When the wages are on the lower side, people in general don't have the money laying around to "just buy a new one" and will often try to fix it themselves instead to save money is my guess
Judging by the title I thought this was going to be a tie in terms of money, but gee last gen consoles are expensive where you're at! I was basing my assumption on local Xbox Series S pricing, which is €175-200 on the used market.
My PS4 slim has no life on the optical drive and apparently it is one of a few fuses that is blown on the mobo but all of those are fine (I don't have a multimeter with continuity but I use the diode mode, if that is the correct method). Now thanks to the video, I can check the switches for any broken ones!
Thanks for watching my videos! I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!

Wow, thanks!
Love seeing the profit at the end Steve 😁 Hard drive has caught me out and I think many other people too 😂😂 Great video 👍
