Haha.... a boat mechanic out of necessity, musician by choice, BBQ guy because, well, who doesnt love BBQ ? And Flounder Girl? Well....she has this thing going with flounder. They bite her hooks....and not mine ! Thanks, Wayn !
My father has the same outboard. I had to disassemble the lower unit to replace the muffler which was rotten after 30 years. Re adjusted the timing. Runs perfect.
That is a awesome backdrop for your intro, and really good information. I know I could not do it like you did, but you made me feel like I could. Great job.
Great Channel .. coming to smash the like from Kohl Outdoors. This was a very awesome diagnostic tutorial brother! All I have to say is that your the man with the master plan!!! Keep'em coming my man! Much love to you!!!!
Welcome aboard, Robert ! Still a lot to do on his boat, because there is no way I'm letting my only son risk his life with a non functioning rig in those Texas coastal waters. They can turn nasty at anytime.
Damn Bluz...how do you know so much about EVERYTHING!! This is helpful for any engine troubleshooting. Good to see your boy and Flounder Girl. Awesome video my friend!!
Just a darn know-it-all, I guess. You forget my family had a Yamaha bike dealership for years. That boy is all grown up now....snot nosed whipper snapper, he is !
Hey I have the same motor and I have issues getting it started initially, then once it’s been started it will fire right up for the rest of the day. I have cleaned the carbs and replaced the fuel filter and water separator, what could my problem be, maybe fuel pump?
Y’all look like you know what your doing. That’s the steps in order. Great work. No ethanol. Its amazing what ethanol does to a 2-stroke or a small engine
Thanks ! It still needs a water test, since we didn't have time to do that. But hey, I'll gladly go back to see him and the kids.....( and eat some of his BBQ!) I have a feeling carbs will eventually need to be cleaned judging from that dirty fuel. NO ethanol fuel is allowed in my boat. None. Zero. I dont care what it costs. I dont even run it in my 5.7 Hemi Jeep...and I can really tell the difference.
My 115 v4 wont start if sitting for a day or more. Chokes work, primer bulb, plugs, and fresh fuel. If I put a little gas into the carb (or use quick start), it fires right up and will be fine the rest of the day. It's only if it sits, then I can crank it all day and it wont fire. Thoughts? I was thinking timing hasn't backed off or the carbs might be out of synch?
Hmm...interesting...I am assuming the spark plugs are dry after you try to start it without spraying something into the carbs. ( btw, dont do that unless your auto oiler is working..even then , I'd mix a little oil in the spray.) If so, It's obviously a fuel delivery problem or low compression. I think I'd check the fuel pump and strainer first after a compression check. I'd also make certain there was not an air leak in my fuel line or a tiny split in the fuel line connector. ( common) Some primer bulbs get a sticky valve in them, too. Hold it vertically with the arrow pointing UP while priming it. As for carb syncing....has it been messed with ? If so....get a factory manual and sync the linkage all up according to specs. Let me know what you come up with...I'd be interested in hearing it and it may help someone else later.
My yellow light is on, on my 50hp Yamaha but the oil injection is disconnected so I mix the oil in the gas and it’s still peeing. When I accelerate it does great but then it start bogging down and the rpms go down. Any idea what it could be?
Question: I've recently bought a boat with a 1997 Yamaha 115 two stroke outboard. The water pressure gauge is not working. I've traced the tube to the head of the motor but it is not attached to anything and I do not know where to attach it to the block. I've bought a service manual for the motor, but no listing that I can find on how to do this...Could you advise me where this attaches? Thanks!!!
My guess is that some of the older models did not come with the brass nipple you are seeking. I know that on my personal 1999 model 90 Hp engine, the nipple was added. Of course, that involves drilling and threading a hole for it in the water jacket. It's really not a huge deal, though. The preferred location on that 115 is what I'm not sure of, since I havent paid much attention to it. My advice on this one would be to seek out that info on "The Hull Truth" boating forums. Lots of good, first hand information there from guys who have done it. You might even get to chat with Dave Marciano from Wicked Tuna, too ! He and Jay used to post there quite often. BTW, Thanks for watching my little channel ! Wish I could be more help on this one !
Huge Thanks ! I hope you meant to type "depth" and not "debt" ! I don't DO "debt",,,lol ! ( financial adviser, 35+ years) . Appreciate your stopping by !
Enjoyed your video,I know nothing about boat motors but I sure could use a day out fishing! I think your son & mine might have alot in common, both my boys love cooking and boating :) #934, new from Farmall Fanatic's stream. Great channel♡
I don't either. ( shhh!) I'm a pretty good guesser, however ! Yeah, the next weekend he placed 9th over all in a BBQ cook off. Not bad ....out of 61 . Welcome aboard !
Great video... I'm really interested in BBQ now, but I recon I'll share a Yamaha 115 2stroke prob with everyone. My engine starts and runs like a champ, every time... until I get to about 4300 rpms. Then it feels like it just can't get the gas it needs, stalling at the higher RPMs. I can back off and it is fine again, but only at the lower RPMs. I have replaced the fuel line from the tank to the engine, including new Water Separator. I have also installed an electric fuel pump to assure pressure to engine. No change. Any ideas?!?!?!
Yup ! Absolutely ! That was the dirtiest fuel I've seen in a long time. I also think he needs to swap out the entire fuel line, this spring....in addition to disabling that auto oiler and going to premix.
@@BluzGuitarGuyFishing hello blues guy I have a v4 115 an I'm having a idle problem I have a fuel separator an the fuel looks good everywhere I've checked. An I also have the auto oiler an been wanting to take it off an the alarm stuff as well. Thanks for any help
@@JamesWhite-tg4kw As for the auto oiler, I've never done one. But I'm sure any Yamaha dealer tech can tell you. Just buy him a beer and burger for lunch ! OK, now to your idle problem. The first thing ( after checking compression) I'd do, is take a good hard look at each of the spark plugs. They tell you things. See if one is more wet and/or black than the rest. It's probably normal for the 2 lower plugs to be a little darker...but not dripping wet or oily. If one is really oily...you might have a coil going out. Nor should any other them be white or have rust or water droplets on the inside electrodes. ( water droplets= bad head gasket)- Begin ...by installing 4 properly gapped NGK brand plugs, making sure the fuel is fresh ( we run Marine Stabil in ours) and then if there is no change, I'd invest in a Yamaha repair manual. It's worth the money...trust me. Usually when one doesnt idle well and you have HOT spark on all four cylinders, it's either : 1. Low compression on at least one cylinder, 2: old, fouled plugs, 3: Dirty carb jets, 4: mis-adjusted carbs and/or throttle linkage. 5: Old Nasty fuel. I hope this helps a bit !
