Oil in your air box is from a flooding carb. Fuel evaporates, leaving oil behind. Outboards smoke because they are running too rich, and/or they are cold. That's why a proper running motor smokes a little on the cold start, but as the motor makes temperature, smoke dissipates. It actually has little to do with oil, unless of course the oil/fuel mix is way way too much oil.
@@JamesWhite-tg4kw Could be many things. Cooling system not correct, cold outboards smoke because they are rich (check thermos and poppet valve), fuel system too rich, as in flooding carbs. Crud 2 stroke oil that doesn't burn well. See if your 2 cylinder banks are are heating cooling evenly, if not your cooling system needs attention. I've also seen the water cover gaskets on the heads tear, that messes with proper cooling.(be careful not to break off those bolts if we're talking about a yamadog, their aluminum is subject to monster corrosion, I think because they don't drain off good at shut down.) Oil pump is rock solid reliable on these motors. When you pre mix you tend to foul plugs and lose efficiency. I never understood why so many choose to delete the VRO only to carbon up their motor.

This was a lot of oil. Pure tcw3. And after the problem was fixed it hasn't happened since.

Mate how did you take the air filter off to get into those carbs? I have the exact same motor and mines starting to do the same cheers

Old Yamaha v4 are Cracker Jack Good motors- They copied omc & took up a notch or two-
I would delete the the oil injection and start mixing fuel
