  • VICE News talks to Robert Suttle, an HIV activist who was forced onto the sex offender registry under a Louisiana law of criminally exposing someone to HIV. New York has no such law, but when Suttle moved to NYC he was required to register as a sex offender anyway.

Yeah, I didn't understand this at all because all he said was, I thought I told him, never saying exactly what he said. Unless I missed that part? So many gay men think nothing of not disclosing they have HIV. I had a friend who found his partners HIV meds.. he didn't know. They had been together 2 years! It's shocking that one can justify this somehow in their mind.

Simple stupid. Write up a disclosure statement and get every sexual partner to sign before having sex". Even if someone later brought completely false charges up, like say they never had sex with you, this would help in establishing that you were taking that responsibility very seriously, to give ammunition to counter their claims.

I am going to comment on all the main posts just for informing people. I am not part of the LGBT community nor am I a person living with HIV. There can be a lot of fear and anger in things we don't understand and that is obvious with some of the comments here.
So first and foremost modern HIV treatment has come along way. It is primarily one single pill every day or one long acting injection given every few months.
Modern treatment in almost all cases allows someone to live a near normal life expectancy with very little side effects.
Modern treatment in almost all cases also allows someone to be "Undetectable". This means that the amount of virus in the body can not be measured.
When someone is "Undetectable" it is nearly impossible to spread the virus. Here is one such recent study...
Over the course of the study, the gay couples had 77,000 acts of condomless penetrative sex and the heterosexual couples, 36,000 acts. The PARTNER studies did not find a single HIV transmission from an HIV-positive partner who had an undetectable viral load (below 200 copies/ml).
Education and awareness are important in life.
Hopefully this helps inform some individuals on the reality of HIV in 2023.
Also I would recommend learning about the 90-90-90 world strategy.
The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) released the '90-90-90' Initiative with the goals of 90% of all individuals with HIV knowing this diagnosis, 90% of those diagnosed on treatment, and 90% of those on treatment achieving suppression of their virus.
This is a way to make HIV disappear in a few generations. It also means a normal healthy life for those living with the virus.
Let's move into the light of awareness, education, and positive action :)

@@desi4u1 From what I've seen in this 10min video, this is just the way he talks. He uses a lot of feelings statements which probably stems from being gaslit in the past. If you listen to his words carefully, he said he "considers" himself a movement leader. "I consider" and "I feel" are virtually synonymous and we see him in a leadership role in the video. I've met a few people in my lifetime that speak like this. Mostly women. As someone who is very assertive, this passive way of speaking drives me nuts but I think ya'll are focusing too much on one word instead of his words as a whole.

He's absolutely facing the punishment he deserves, yes he should be on the sex offender list for life because if his partner had gotten HIV his partner would have it for the rest of his life, regardless if he had access to viral load medications. Sexual consent via deception is a sexual offence, hes extremely lucky the court didnt make him serve jail time. This video could have been better if instead it was about the victim and why they chose to come forward to the police. Instead we get a video of a sex offender complaining about the consequences of his actions?

As I watch this preview, there’s one HUGE thing that’s sticking out to me. In one breath, he states, “I told him I have HIV”. However in another breath, he states, “I THINK I told him I have HIV”….so which one is it? There’s discrepancy and ambiguity at play.
If he is withholding information knowingly or unknowingly, then it’s grounds for him being noted as a sex offender.
Thats like getting ticketed, fined or arrested for breaking a law and stating, “Well, I didn’t know [it] was a law”.
Regardless of the law scenario or his sex offender label, neither cares wether you don’t know, forgot, or display ambiguities. Wrong is wrong unfortunately.
Even I learned that the hard way, but I give this guy grace because he’s brave to come on camera and put himself out there. I am in no room to judge. I just hope all works out for him. May God bless him.

It’s not to punish anyone, it’s to protect everyone else’s that could potentially end up catching it from you.. Anyone who has a highly infectious disease should be on some kinda list like this, just as a precautionary measure. Same thing with herpes even honestly.. Those are “gifts” that keep on giving basically. Once you catch something like that you can’t get rid of it.. Personally I know if I ever caught anything like that, my life would come to an abrupt standstill, at least as far as being able to go out and hook up with someone I find myself attracted to anyways..
But there should be laws for not speaking up about having something like having anything you can’t get rid of.. So it’s something to protect both you and other people. Because as a NY’er I know if someone ever gave me something like that, I’d quickly go off the deep end and wind up effectively coming for you for catching anything I’d be stuck with for life. Plus because then I’d also be stuck only being able to fish from the same pool and hooking up with only others in the same boat as I’d end up finding myself in!!.. 😏🤷🏻‍♂️

@@tylerbaron170 Yeah I’m not nearly as concerned about what the treatment would be as much as I would be about having to go the rest of my life having to disclose that kinda stuff to any future hookup’s… Meaning I’d either have to only fish from the contaminated pool, or never be able to to fish again. Because there’s absolutely no way whatsoever in hell that I’m fixing to have that messed up conversation!!… To be perfectly honest, if I ever caught something like that from someone, it’d be more than enough reason for me to come completely unglued on said person. That’s what I’m getting at behind being okay with some kind of mandatory registration for anyone who is carrying something like that with them. It’s not to be able to bully anyone for having something like that, as least not from the angle that I’m coming from. It’s no shade towards someone who’s dealing with this situation. I’m just looking at it as simply another way of keeping myself safe from situations like this, that’s all. But I’m in no way bashing anyone who has to live with that tho!..

    • @cinnamoslut
      @cinnamoslut 8 місяців тому +1

People can be so reckless when it comes to sex. I'm basing this off of conversations I've had with friends thru the years, reading from various sources, etc. Condom use seems to be at an all time low. And, while condoms are excellent in protection from STIs, they aren't perfect and they can't protect you from everything. Some STIs can be contracted despite proper condom use.
Given your perspective on STIs, I assume you are diligent about practicing safe sex when you hook up with someone. The thought of contracting an incurable STI frightens me, too. Even herpes, while not as serious as HIV or hepatitis, isn't something worth the risk of catching. Herpes is a chronic illness, it can cause more severe symptoms than most people think.
Another important part of safe sex is frequent STI screening. Most people aren't aware that a typical STI panel only tests for syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. You have to specifically ask to be tested for things like herpes, hepatitis, HIV, etc.
No matter what one believes about their past and how 'careful' and 'clean' they think they are (unless they are a virgin), it's always a good idea for both partners in a new relationship to get a full STI panel. Sadly, some people get offended when a partner asks for this. It's just the smart thing to do, really. No implications or judgments on the person. There are STIs like chlamydia which could be asymptomatic in one person, yet can cause pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility in women if left undetected and untreated too long.
My previous OBGYN told me a story that I think highlights the importance of routine annual STI screening even in sexually active patients in monogamous relationships. One of her patients, a woman in her 60s who had been happily married for 30-40 years, got the STI panel as part of her annual checkup when she switched to this OBGYN. The woman was certain it would be negative for everything, her husband was the only man she'd had sex with in all those years. The OBGYN had to have the uncomfortable conversation with this patient that she had tested positive for chlamydia, meaning her husband was likely having an affair. Sometimes, affairs are revealed in this way, and it's devastating. Terrible that someone would put their partner at risk in such a way.

@@cinnamoslut Honestly I haven’t been too concerned about catching anything, only used a condom once, just to see if there was any difference. Which there was a big one.. But what I don’t do, is just randomly hook up with whoever, whenever tho!! I really gotta be into you and also need to know you and your past pretty damn well before I’ll go messing around with anyone. Granted that’s probably not the best practice these days tho!!.. Everyone always seems to have a massive body count unfortunately. So it’s basically put me in the category of I’m just not really willing to mess around with anyone anymore.. I don’t even wanna consider messing with someone who’s been with 4-5 people tops. So seeing as that’s almost unheard of now a day’s, I just stopped all my shenanigans at this point… I like me a old school values kinda girl. I wouldn’t even entertain the ones who been run through by a entire football team or more of dude’s. It starts screwing up the whole pair bonding situation thing. This making cheating an extremely common thing sadly. At this point I’m basically starting to think I’ll just stay single for the rest of my life. Not because I wanna screw my way through the whole club scene. But because you pretty much can’t trust nobody no more!. Obviously that’s not always the case. But from what I see, these girls just ain’t loyal no more!!. They all wanna find the guy that’s making 6 figures, 6 foot tall or more. But bring nothing at all to the table more times than not. Then the second they don’t get their way, they’ll go out and screw your best friend, just to spite you. I just can’t get behind any of that nonsense honestly.. 😏🤷🏻‍♂️ But I do feel bad for that lady that you mentioned tho! That’s a rough one!! Personally I’d of gone back home with divorce papers in hand if that crap happened to me. I wouldn’t allow anyone to play with my health or life in general. If I wanna take any risks with my life, then that’s 100% on me. But I’m not about to play with anyone else life or well being, so I definitely expect that same basic respect. If ya going to go around cheating, then you may as well go ahead and just leave. Because once that line gets crossed, Imma be dust in the wind quite frankly!! Trust is definitely something that’s earned with me. It’s not just something that’s given rite off the rip with me at all.. 👏🏼🙌🏼💯💨💨💨

While no longer a death sentence, treatment for HIV can still be incredibly expensive and I know as a queer transmasc man, I would want recourse to punish someone if they infected me with it. • @cinnamoslut
      @cinnamoslut 8 місяців тому

The advances in medicine, in the treatment of HIV, are incredible. It's amazing that today, HIV is no longer a death sentence. But yes, like you said, treatment for HIV can be incredibly expensive.
In addition to financial cost, the medications come with side-effects, for some worse than others. These are not benign drugs. All medications come with a risk of mild, moderate to severe side effects. With something like HIV that could be life-threatening without treatment, you may be left with no choice but to continue taking a medication that causes pretty distressing side-effects. Not sure how it is with HIV meds specifically, but sometimes, people have to take additional medications to counteract the side-effects of another necessary medication they are on.
I don't know a whole lot about HIV, but I do know that a large proportion of the population of HIV+ patients suffer from chronic pain. I think it's over 50% that suffer from chronic neuropathic pain (been awhile since I read about this). Chronic pain is an awful burden. It's often a long, stressful, difficult process trying to get treatment for your chronic pain that works well for you without too many side-effects. Sadly, many doctors are less than helpful when it comes to chronic pain.
So yes, even if a disease is not likely to be fatal, it's still fucked up to knowingly risk spreading a disease to others. It's not like it's impossible to find partners who are either positive themselves (though there's still some risk with that, different strains of HIV or something for example) or a partner who is willing to take the risk. But you must let any potential partners make that decision for themselves! It's not fair to put someone at risk like that for sexual gratification.
