- The most common misconception when it comes to the carnivore diet is that it will be a huge detriment to your cholesterol and cause life ending heart attacks. Mark Bell asked Shawn Baker and Paul Saladino to clear any confusion when it comes to the carnivore diet and cholesterol.
Listen and watch an entire four part series featuring Shawn Baker and Paul Saladino talking about all things Carnivore below.

@a normal everyday Spider I think there might be a bit of juice usage in your pictures. Dr Saladino and Baker are natural.
@a normal everyday Spider no you may be in better shape than all of the omnivores you know.
@a normal everyday Spider really? So you know people who are on the carnivore diet and are in worse shape than when they started?
@a normal everyday Spider first person I've heard of. Wasn't really popular 5 years ago.
Lol so true.
It strikes me as very strange that the two meat only doctors are named salad and Baker

I really needed to hear this. My doc saw my cholesterol levels just recently and freaked out! He said if I didn't take Statins, I would die from a heart attack. My cholesterol went up after being on carnivore for several years. I feel better than ever eating in this way.
What does it matter how you feel if you are going to die from a heart attack? Feeling good doesn't mean you don't have heart disease, perhaps you should listen to your doctor?
7 years on carnivore diet ?!?! U need a break for a couple weeks/months

I do carnivore in the winter months, add veggies in the spring, berries and nuts in the summer, and heavier veggies like sweet potato and beans in the fall. Works out GREAT for me. This is a long-cycle cyclical keto diet and I love it.
i don't think that's carnivore. sounds more like keto. it's pretty much what keto ppl eat..?
@@chloe7seven22 yeah more like a keto diet, but from what I’ve been reading and what I see is that people on keto usually eat unhealthy foods, they don’t care about what the animal they consume has been feeding on throughout its life. And that’s really important, especially when it comes to poultry and pig. Beef isn’t affected to the same degree from eating a soy based diet. But grass fed, steroid free meat is way healthier. Also it’s important to reduce plant based oils to a minimum, mostly because of the omega-6 fats, and increase omega-3 fats we consume, either by taking a small shot of fish oil, or taking omega-3 pills everyday. Some forms of carbs aren’t bad, one example is raw honey or even cheese/milk. So focusing on what you yourself tolerate and take notice of how you react to different foods.
That just sounds like a normal ancestral diet. Back when we were fighting for survival, we ate what was readily available. No we didn't hunt in the spring and summer when a fresh meal was easy to get and there was little chance of injury.
@@themattyshow4026 not sure what reading you are doing but not all Keto diets eat junk food nor do they not care about what they eat. Primal Blueprint Keto is a good example of the opposite of what you said.
cut out veggies and nuts and legumes haha, eat seasonal fruit, maybe some starch...
Paul Saladinho perfectly explains insulin resistance.
There aren't many people how understand insulin resistance and there are even less who can explain it in such a brilliant way.
I'm not pro carnivore, but he is really some steps ahead in terms of nutritional knowledge.
But how do you know it's correct?
Plus, he's a biased person.
(Edit: I just saw that part, and I gotta admit, he seemed unbiased, and acknowledged the 3-factor reason.
I went to the VA doctor today and that's what he tried to do. I have been on carnivore diet for a year. I tried to explain this to him and he wasn't having it. I told him I didn't want to go on Staten for high cholesterol. I haven't felt this good since I was young. Now in my mid 50's I feel great, fixed a lot of my problems.
I'm afraid my VA doctor will do the same. We'll see what happens with my blood draw a few months from now.
Yep just got a call from the VA saying the same thing after doing carnivore for two months and losing 20 pounds
Hey guys so my HDL was 305 and Triglycerides were 39
My VA DR was confused. My Blood pressure and everything is excellent. I lost 20lbs my heart palpitations went away..
Thank you for your service🇺🇸🙏🏻
The problem with high cholesterol is that it's a lifetime exposure risk for CVD. Even people doing carnivore for 10 years who have high LDL still haven't been doing it long enough to develop CVD. I'm a big advocate for high protein diets with lots of healthy fats, but if the excess saturated fat in the carnivore diet is messing up your LDL (which doesn't happen to everybody) then you should switch out some of the fattier meats for lean ones and add fat from avocado, fish, and nuts. Simple fix, still mostly carnivore, and that risk factor is taken care of.
What a pleasure watching a video with properly mic'd sound for a change.
I did the Carnivore diet strictly for 3 months and I lost 30 lbs. I was so big I just dieted without exercise of any type. I started craving some veggies so I started eating leafy greens, mushrooms, tomatoes and cukes and cheeses. 4 months later I'm at a 70 lb. loss. Now it's been almost 9 months and I'm at 80 lb. loss. After the 3rd month I decided to build a weight lifting cage out of 4x4's. I already had an olympic weight set with dumbbells and an e-z curl bar. At 59 I started doing some powerlifting training and now i'm getting stronger everyday while still losing weight. I added oatmeal to the breakfast, today was plain along with ham and eggs. If you're obese try the carnivore for a month I think you will be shocked and pleasantly surprised at the results. If you're still hungry eat more eggs and or steak and you'll feel full for hours.
Thanks bro for the info I’m on day 5 of it feeling pretty good just get a little of diarrhea but I feel good and I’m 34 years old

A1C at 6.2 looks high. I'd be working to correct that if it was me. I hear that being close to 5.0 is about as high as you want to be.
Magnesium red blood cell is a good test, too. 6.5 mg/dL is a good low end number, but almost everyone is well below that. Getting that number up ought to be a priority since ATP doesn't work in the human body unless magnesium is attached to it (Mg-ATP is the actual "ATP" molecule that works in the human body). 3,751 proteins depend on magnesium.

My doctor even told me my cholesterol was the best he'd seen. Going back on it again next week. Just ordered my meats for the month from Butcher Box.
Just do it, decide, pick a day and go there... I love restrictive diets... there’s no guess work, you just eat in the guide lines... I add raw milk, raw butter, sometimes raw cheese and a teaspoon or two of raw honey- still low carb at around 30g a day... the way I define carnivore is ‘animal products only’. It’s a pretty extensive array of foods for me... not suitable for everyone though but works for me because I’m in recovery from disordered eating and gives me more flexibility and reduces the incidence of bingeing.
I can’t imagine doing just steak and organ meat- I don’t even want to try that unless I’m dying of poisoning (egg, dairy, fish, chicken, pork, honey etc poisoning )
Golden Knight I may not agree with you on diets but i do agree with your channel description!
Honestly I don’t ever hear any well-read doctor tell patients to go on a low fat diet. They also stress low carb diet. I’ve been paying attention for the last couple of months to what doctors are telling patients. I don’t think these plant based people did well in medical biochemistry class.

It's people who think they are morally superior trying to convince themselves and everyone else that plants are what we should eat.
Shaun Rasmussen plants are basically food we were forced to eat to stave off starvation. Vegetables such as potato and plantain helped to stave off starvation and to increase calories intake. Mic the Vegan has a video about type 2 diabetes and how animal fat is the culprit for insulin resistance...and he proves his point by talking about the high carb low fat vegan diet...what he doesn’t understand is exactly what Paul said about what truly causes insulin resistance which is the “overeating of mixed macro nutrients”...eating carbs and animal fat together...which of course doesn’t happen on a HCLF vegan diet, but also doesn’t happen on a LCHF carnivore diet!!

Forget the cholesterol. How does your coronary calcium scan look? The thing about cholesterol is that your liver will make all your body needs. That is messed up when your body is processing too much sugar, alcohol, or saturated fat. When it's all of them(Standard American Diet), your body is in constant chaos.
There is no such thing as bad cholesterol, we have been lied to for a long time...

Heart attacks are from the Harding of the arteries so your body goes $#it he or she is going to bleed out so it plugs the crack in the artery and and it continues to build up because you dont treat the root of the problem it's not cholesterol that's the problem but diet is the answer. Look at the 8:45 to 9:07 mark. Dr. Saladino states that overfeeding carbohydrates in the absence of fat doesn't lead to insulin resistance. Earlier he states overfeeding fat over stuffs the adiposites that leads to insulin resistance !!
Paul Saladino turns conventional wisdom on its head.
I'd like to see a debate for OR against the Carnivore Diet on this channel.
Oh wait there is one
Malcolm Kendrick seems adamant that cholesterol cannot pass through the endothelial. He says he's writing a book on why he believes this.
Steven Turner Those high PUFA seed and “vegetable” oils are extremely unstable, but we can limit how much we ingest.
Exactly -- It's the insulin resistance. Overfeeding and mixing high carb with high fat. A high trig-HDL ratio is a feature of insulin-resistance. It is also seen with a predominance of small dense Pattern B LDL. This is the bad LDL that is damaged by glycation and oxidation. Pattern A LDL is undamaged, normal LDL which is not implicated in atherosclerosis. Lower dietary intake of carbs and avoiding PUFAs are important steps to prevent oxidation and glycation and damage to the LDL protein Apo B and the endothelial glycocalyx.

It really does prevent infections.. iv not been ill since I went carnivore, living with 4 kids I used to get ill or feel like i was coming down with something regularly now I watch on as the kids get ill and I don't get so much as a snifle.
My 2 year old that is around 70/30 animal based rarely gets ill either
All this cholesterol and people keep asking what I'm doing to look so good
Shawn Baker rocks!
So what blood test should I request from my doctor just to see all my accurate levels?
Been keto for 2 months 1/1/20 just started Carnivora 3/1/20
Nathan Riley at least check your A1C and fasted lipid panel(14+ hour fasted for your triglycerides to level off)
Thank you for the wealth of knowledge
So lower LDL/Cholesterol rats get sicker and live shorter lives.
What are we told to do?
I know correlational is not always, maybe never causation but dam, that's some strong info right there.
dang! ”...right now he is” -Mark hahah come on Layne another battle with Paul
It would have been great if the interviewer didn't keep on interrupting Paul
Did the meat diet for 6 months. Eggs chicken, beef, and cheese. My cholesterol went up quite a bit. But I'm guessing it might have been from all the cheese I was eating. I was eating a lot of it.
You should watch more vids on cholesterol. Check out Dr Ben Bikman. In fact, check out all of the carnivore dr's. You'll learn some valuable stuff on cholesterol. I'm on the carnivore diet, have been for 17 months now. I had a full panel blood test after a year. All results were perfect. Including my thyroid - I've been hypo for 11 years, now it's back to normal, but cholesterol was very high. The nurse was very worried. I explained some stuff to her and I told her to research and watch Dr Ben Bikman and all the rest of them. She said she'd never been taught anything like that at med school.
You have to find a Dr who stays up to the time otherwise your regular dr will tell you you're gonna get sick through his lack of education.
Hmm I did my bloodwork and my lab results were:
P-HDL-kolesterol(mmol/L) 0.72 (red marked)
fS-Triglycerider(mmol/L) 1.2 (green marked)
P-non-HDL-kolesterol(mmol/L) 7.3 (red marked)
P-Kolesterol(mmol/L) 8.0 (red marked)
fP-LDL-kolesterol(mmol/L) 7.6 (red marked)
So my ldl and cholesterol was high but triglycerides and hdl was in good ratio according too this podcast?
Also my bloodsugars were really good:
P-Glukos(mmol/L) 4.6 (green marked)
B-HbA1c (IFCC)(mmol/mol) 36 (green marked)
Interview a bunch of people over 100 years old and see how many followed a carnivore diet
Why watch a good comedy when you can watch gems like this on UA-cam
I wonder what Paul thinks about insulin resistance now considering how he is eating large amounts of carbohydrates and fat for a while now. I can attest that adding more fruits to my diet has increased my fasting insulin.
Been on carnivore 6 wks had blood test done today, cholesterol 332- non-hdl cholest 260, ldl 244.6 hdl 72 triglycerides77, cholesterol/ hdl ratio 4.6
my Triglycerides went up 100 on carnivore/meat based low carb little change in ldl and hdl...lost 15 pounds cant figure it out
Take a shot every time they say “granular”
Super interesting. I'm 40 and lifetime natural lifter (1m83, 105kg). On carnivore @ 42-4500kcals for 8 months. I did notice a slight decrease in peak strength and gym performance. Also less full muscles (water loss). Since a few weeks I added 100 grams of rice to 2 of my meals around the workout (200gr total/day - 0 carb on rest day). Of course these meals are heavy meat based with the fat that comes with the meat.
My performance came back. So, from my anecdotal situation, it seems that a fairly low amount of carbs can be beneficial when it comes to performance.
It takes a while to become fat adapted. I too was having the same issues and carbs helped. But not long term. They brought back my chronic issues. As long as you don't have any pending or current issues, eat what you please
I felt bad for Paul. He kept getting interrupted by the guy in the middle, and then the conversation was completely hijacked after that. Let people finish sharing their though, that's why they're there. Instead, he kept sharing his thought and stealing the sharing. Annoying as hell. And he was on his phone not even paying attention. Paul was annoyed too.
I hardly understood Paul. WIsh he broke it down easier for non-med students.
We need a transcript of this
My husband had a heart attack a few days ago because this diet caused him to have high cholesterol. His cardiologists all agree that eating this much meat caused this even after only months on it. Shawn Baker will tell you this is not so, but my husband is proof that it does cause heart attacks.
Not really. Your husband was prostrating shit for years.
@showbizonastick He was on this diet for 9 months before having a heart attack, not 2 months. I am not a liar or ignorant. Just the fact that you say that proves you don't know much. You can ask any cardiologist if this is a dangerous diet. I am only warning others what happened to my husband so maybe someone not so closed minded will take heed.
@showbizonastick He is 67 years old. He had a normal diet before the carnivore diet, never ate too much sugar or fats. He did not cheat on the carnivore diet. He does not smoke or drink alcohol and is not at all overweight. He has an active life, exercises regularly and is retired, so no work stress..
@showbizonastick
Because he listened to everything Shaun Baker says, he was almost brainwashed by him.
GREAT video.
quadricep overload in this vid holy hell
Man these guys have shiny legs. Not a single hair. Shinier then my future.
And..why do I feel Better tackling the daaay when I have rib eye to start my day. These times we are in call for grounding and feeling strong.i will take and be grateful for meat on my plate over fake crap artificial garbage and take my chances and this is coming from a food junkie......
So over eating fats and carbs together is a bad combo, if I'm eating some beef patties and follow it with fruit is that the same thing??
The thing with glucose is that it makes us addicts.. ... And makes us live like addicts... ...sweet plants WANT to be eaten... for some this is what spreads their seeds... and for others they use glucose to attract prey to feed... we are so addicted to glucose, as a species that we make it artificially with other plants, like corn and wheat... and then we crave fat so much that we make it artificially with plants like soy and seeds... And this is what makes us eat the earth and die from our system shutting down...
