John Yudkin
'Pure, White and Deadly'
he published his book in 1972.
Robert Lustig carried on from him.
Yudkin's paperback is still available in 2024.
The 'sugar companies' went after him, via politicians of course and i believe he never worked again.

Very important to remember:
Your doctor is your employee, not your boss. He can offer you advice, not give you orders.
Vilifying cholesterol would be like arresting firefighters for being at the scene of the crime, putting out a fire.
Hilarious! And true. Nobody wants to talk about why the arteries are inflamed!
Having said that ,I think its foolhardy to overlook the legitimate association between hyper-cholesterolemia and a significant increased risk of cardio-vascular disease ... (particularly in a context of the ever increasingly prevalent metabolic syndrome , for example ).Dave Feldman actually goes to extraordinary lenghts to stress that lmhr's ldl amounts only infer that we need to research and learn more about 'excess' ldl health affects , as opposed to assuming that such elevated ldl amounts don't contribute to cvd , especially in the long term. Its not so simple as to say elevated ldl is necessarily bad for us , but , its also incorrect to say that elevated ldl isn't necessarily bad for us .ldl is just one important bio-marker for cvd health and we need to learn more from research .The lmhr phenotype may be one possible way to learn what we need to know.
My total cholesterol was around 242, after I had just started losing weight on LCHF, primarily carnivore, diet and the medical professional I saw wanted me to take statins. I flat out told her "NO". I explained why and because my dad died at 39 of a heart attack she wanted me to take them at 49. I told her they would come down on their own within a short while and she kept pressing. Within 3 months I was under 200 again. Shortly after the visit she emailed and strongly encouraged me to ignore my doctor's dietary advice, the one who put me on a high fat diet, and to follow her eating plan which included lots of carbs... included in that email was a stern warning that I needed to take statins, so I fired her.
😂 fired!
Wow this doctor needs help
That doctor was probably counting on the Statin kickback to buy her new Tesla 😂😂😂
It's pathetic that even though it came down, she apparently wouldn't accept that. You did the right thing!
@@Tatman1212 allopathic medicine is business just like any other. Period.
Omg I have to tell someone because no one in my life will probably believe me. It’s not a huge thing but I’ve only been doing this high fatty meat no carb thing for a week or so. But I brushed my teeth and my gums didnt bleed! Wtf???? They have bled EVERY time I brush my teeth for FIFTY BLOODY YEARS!!! I really just can’t believe this. My dentist couldn’t help me, my healthy low fat, high fibre, low meat diet sure didn’t help me. It’s only been a week! this is crazy, I just brushed the hell out of my teeth and literally couldn’t make them bleed! Thanx for listening my new carnivore family, I’m beyond thrilled Doc. I’m sticking with this 💪💪💪💪💪😂😂😬😬😬😬😬😬😬
Same experience for me. Dentists are as clueless about nutrition as doctors and vets.
That's fantastic to hear. I'll tell you my people probably don't believe me story. I've been low carb since Oct 2021 and mid 2023 I noticed that my hair isn't as grey as it was. I don't think my boss believed me but recently she said that she can notice the difference. Thankfully I have heard the same thing online from about 6 or 7 people.
If gums bled you have an oral issue that no diet will fix, its called gingivitis. Brush 2x no alcphol rinses and no baking soda, only clean rinse like Cloesys.
@@jobrown8146😂 grey hair is grey hair, it wont reverse until its colored. Pls stop selling rubbish.
Same for any condition, once you got it, its life long, cant be reversed but can be managed.
My last labs (April '24) came back with "elevated LDL" of 109 still down a few points from last year. BUT, the big thing was 3 years ago, I had a CAC (calcium plaque) score which came back at 287 and had a new scan and it is now, three years later... 101! If high LDL were truly bad, how is my CAC drastically reducing? Even my doctor commented he's never seen a patient reduce their CAC.
Wonderful.
Nice!!
Thats amazing. I hope I can achieve something like you. I have a CAC score 386 last month. Of course my doctor put me on statins. Not take them yet. I will continue my CV life and cut out all sugars and as much as possible carbs. My ldl a bit high but trig/ hdl ratio is good. BP 120/75. Not overweight and train 3-4 times a week. Next month 65 years. Good luck to you.
Yup, seems a lot of carnivores are doin the same thing you did. LDL and cholesterol are vital for life and healthspan. I hope my LDL is "elevated" not that I'm planning on ever going back to my Dr.
That's not even an elevated LDL. Mine is 129 and is lower than it was but ketovore for 18mos. What's important is HDL and Triglyceride and the ratio. Higher HDL and Lower Trigs the better.
"Doctors" killed my mother and my father
Doctors killed my sister and brother during the pandemic..
They killed my father too shingles vax
Same with mine . Indifference and arrogance
God bless many doctors are evil
Drs killed my grandma
For all of us older generation folk, the "Framingham Study" was the "go-to" standard. We believed the "science" so fervently. We bought the cholesterol studies and papers. I guess most of my generation still believe in the "authoriti". I live my Carnivore Life, but I've converted no one! Lol! I don't push it though... We're such addicts and not many will admit it.
Hi from Australia. Did i catch the south park sublety? I have become a bit of an evangelist, and have converted a few people who have done as well as me. Awesome. Im 63, but currently winding the clock backwards.
Could you please provide the link to the 2008 study from Oxford discussing brain shrinkage among vegans? I believe it would be beneficial if any video referencing a particular study included links to them in the description. Thank you!
I also want them. When I speak to health professionals, even as a biochemistry graduate who understands these things, i prefer to use research evidence than just referencing videos.
@@theconsciousguy1081 I hear that ...but look where following bad studies/science got us.
@@chrismoore1372 what I meant was, I wanted the research papers doc used to debunk the other research papers. To back me up regularly during such discussions
yes!!!!!!!!!
I've never had mental issues, always been a pretty calm person, but going high fat carnivore did fix my insomnia and I don't have period cramps anymore. I assume it's my hormones being balanced out.
very important information thanks. Just saw a 'doctor' at Kaiser who said my lipids were high and I needed to go on statins. I dropped to the floor literally and game her a quick 65 push ups. I am 73, no big deal. Highschool weight, fitness trained etc. the doctor said no matter. They really do not listen anymore. They do as the CDC, AMA, etc. tell them to do, they are no longer critical thinkers or independently minded.
I asked her why are 77% of all Americans are overweight and over 50% are obese if yur doing such a fine job of taking care of them.
That was cold and to the point. I love it.
My most recent labs, after being 9 months carnivore (from keto), only had two markers flagged as "High": Cholesterol and Testosterone.
You are right Doctor. One professor Brian Peskin person needs to at least 300-400 cholesterol levels in order to survive. Amen
Im a strict carnivore now for 14 months or so and I feel better than ever but sometimes the algorithm show me videos of influencers like Bryan Johnson etc. I dont know if you know influencers like him but he has a big following and is really misinforming people, which could hurt a lot people. It would be great if you could reach out to influencers like him and start a discussion so people who follow him will also hear about the other side.. Thanks for the good work you are doing!
Corporations have been hurting millions of people for decades. Bryan Johnston is a mosquito compared to them.
Yes!!!
Just wanted to drop in and give a big thanks to you and other medical doctors putting this information out there and helping so many people. I have learned so much thanks to yours and Dr. Berry's videos. I know there are others out there I just haven't found yet. Anyway, so grateful for y'all.
Cholesterol - For REPAIRS and CLEANSING of the body - in what way is that ever bad ?
Thank you for this excellent review!!
Respect to you 💯 for the truth
I think you become more alive when its higher. In many ways.
Thank you
I'm now on the carnivore life change. I went from 199lbs to 188 lbs! I'm five feet seven inches in HT. I'm 54 years of age. My concern is I had 3 stints put in me in 2015. I just hope that with all this meat, i do not clog up again.
Clog with what? No inflammation to clog anything. No cheating and you’re as protected as is possible. Hopefully reverse that damage. No guarantees when you wait that long to fix stuff.
No, I had the stints put in before I went on carnivore. I went on carnivore on January 15 2024. I can't believe how much my body changed. It's awesome. Maybe, hopefully, the meat will not cause more issues. My cardiologist is mad I'm eating all this meat.
Is it possible that, with your carnivore lifestyle, you could have healed enough or could eventually heal enough to have those stints taken out? The human body is miraculously self-healing when it is given the proper nutrition, which you are now getting. I'm no expert, but I think it's worth being tested/scanned to see what the condition is of the area where the stints are. You might be pleasantly surprised. The only downside is that you would have to go back into surgery in order to get the stints removed.
@sophiam9886 Great idea! I'm going to give me a full year on the carnivore lifestyle before doing any blood test. I have a base to start off with. I cut my cholesterol meds down to 3 days a week. Thank u for your thoughts!
Best,
Chris
You just gotta watch liver and colon now. Meat cause issues for those.
I just had my annual physical after 6 months on carnivore. My total cholesterol was at 225; HDL- 170; LDL-156. I think I need to get my HDL up higher? My Dr. said my levels were “elevated” and suggested a diet change to Mediterranean and taking 2 supplements: turmeric & ginger, and Vitamin E. I was happy that he at least suggested a “natural route” vs taking statins. I’ll see what things look like next year
I started carnivore lifestyle in Jan 24 after 4 yrs of Keto. Lost 4.5 stones on keto. 1st month was good on carnivore, but since then I’ve been either been oxalate dumping or histamine intolerant don’t know which. I’ve been tired and sore (I also have osteoarthritis in my spine and fibromyalgia). Have stopped the 8 tramadol and 8 paracetamol I took every day for 10 yrs. but still don’t have energy. Maybe a female age 65 that is normal. I will keep going though. Is blood ketone reading 3.5 ok? Keep up the good work Dr Chaffee. Love from Perthshire in Scotland 🏴
How is your salt intake? Sounds like classic sodium potassium imbalance. I understand Oxalate dumping can take a really long time as my joint pain is just clearing after 22 months.
Takes time to heal, depending on how bad off you were to start. Make sure you get an electrolyte drink in each day that is high in potassium.
With healing and clearing of things like oxalates the body burns through minerals and your bones are probably nutrient deficient in them to start with. Mine were very deficient starting out, only after over a year and half do I now don't really need an electrolyte drink but maybe once a week.
Increase your fat intake butter tallow or lard, I have oxalate poisoning even spices make me ill. Aged beef can cause a histamine reaction, grass fed and finished beef does not for me, electrolytes are very helpful, I am in my second year eating the carnivore ketogenic way. Women have a tendency to not eat enough, steak and butter gal covers this well and Dr Elizabeth Bright, taking Lugols 2% solution is important.
@@karenreaves3650I’m trying to eat as much as possible. I’ve had a lap band in for 10 yrs which didn’t work. Seeing a consultant to talk about getting it out . Nothing is going to stop me doing this , but if you get tired while the oxalates are bending flushed , that fine as long as it’s that my pain is bearable now , I’ve had constant pain in my body since 1983 when I had back surgery. Which triggered the fibromyalgia. Sometimes now I have a day when I’m good, I’ll take that. I’m not doing this to lose weight , although I will lose the last 2 stone eventually. I want to be healthy and as fit as I can be in the years I have left. Wish I knew about carbs and meat decades ago. Thanks
Keep an eye on your intake. A lot of people undereat and don't eat enough fat. I imagine that your body is still healing so that's potentially a big reason for fatigue. Maybe try upping your fat. Congratulations on getting off your pain killers and the weight loss.
God bless cholesterol
Can you do a video on keto/carnivore and athletes and or bodybuilding. I've been on this diet for 7 months. Total is 836, LDL is 640, HDL IS 39. Triglycerides are 235. Seems to keep going up every time I do labs. I'm a firefighter/bodybuilder. Is this normal for someone who is as physically active as I am? I've lost 40lbs and feel the best I ever have. Energy, endurance, strength is all the best it's ever been. Just confused why my labs reflect what they do. Insulin is 5.5 glucose is normal. A1c is 5.1
I go hiking a lot, can you recommend a beef jerky brand in the US?
I need some help! I’m 37 but have an extensive medical history since I was 13yrs old being diagnosed with Lupus, had about 2-3 seizures at my 20’s a clot in my left leg, was on dialysis for 6yrs then got a kidney transplant in 2012. My doctors at Rush University have been saying I had high cholesterol focusing mainly on my LDL. I had what seemed to be a heart attack in 7/2023. They recommended me to get a stent placed on the middle artery of my heart, where a 99% blockage was at or open heart surgery.
I got the stent placed all good after, then recently on May 2nd through a stress test I failed they saw another blockage above that same stent smh! Had to get that area unclogged and another stent placed!
They said it could be inflammation, the previous high cholesterol because of that plaque build up or missing from time to time my blood thinner or Brilinta. I know I probably made a huge mistake by even getting the stents placed idk 😣 but I wanted to know what do you suggest for me to do as to better my overall heart and artery’s?! I’m eating heart healthy meals btw and grass fed meats from here on out!
For years my lipids have been much like my ones from this week. Total 270, HDL 55 Triglycerides 87. I got a call today from a nurse at my cardiologists office. She saw the test and inferred that my insurance company wants me on a statin. She tried to get me to do a twice monthly stomach injection for cholesterol. My CAC was like 400 but the cardiologist never seemed too concerned about that as much as the high cholesterol. Anyone heard this line about their insurance company wanting them on a statin?
There is some conflicting information out on cholesterol and cancer and that it promotes cancer. Could you share your thoughts on this information. I have uveal melanoma and now have mets and being treated. I’m carnivore and mostly it’s beef and my cholesterol was noted high last June before the secondaries were diagnosed. My bloods are done but not this. I’m wondering if I should be taking low dose aspirin. I also have slightly high blood pressure too so I’ve moved to a methelated vitamin b supplement to also assist with maybe getting this down a bit. Any advice?
I just got a CAC score 443 have to see a specialist fot my heart, might need stent & only 40yrs old.
Been on the carnivore diet 3mths now feeling best ive ever felt but now my situation the doctors & heart specialist told me not to eat that way or i will die. Whats the thoughts on that ? I know its not the carnivore that did it but now i have it is it safe to continue
what if you have familial hypercholesterolemia?
Your mic volume is too high your retention would be better if you turned that down. Other than that great video :)
100%😊
Your thoughts on Berberine. Can it mess with hormones? Thx
It’s a plant. Guess…
????hi Dr Chaffee, I'm scared. My cholesterol 24 april 24. (australia) is15.43 . My Dr has got me terrified. Can you suggest someone can see. I don't want to leave carnivore. Please help me
I'm confused by the different types of cholesterol
Will this help schizophrenia?
Fasting, keto, carnivore generally does
There is more evidence showing much improvement with mental illness and ketosis. It has helped me with depression.
Nothing happens in isolation
So what does cause heart disease?
My total chloresterol flucuates between 250 and up to 295. LDL is usually in upper lab range. That should be better by next lab tests. Ratios are good though. Is 295 too high? PCP won't order the LDL particle test.
I eat pretty healthy. My doctor thought my eating good fats was the cause. He doesn't think there's such a thing as good fats.
Better? That’s great. Higher the better. Assuming you’re almost zero carb and low trigs/ hi hdl.
When you think about it. Our immune system is constantly repairing cells damaged by ROS and cholesterol is needed in every cell. To simplify it. bad diet equals excess free radicals. So its constantly battling with inflamation. My mum got put on statins last year and She has had the worst bout of flu/covid in the last few weeks. Getting worse even after 2 weeks. She never had it this bad before. I told her to come of her statins and increase her fat consumption. The other day she told me her chest felt clear for first time after she started eating bacon and egg for breakfast. Still coughing but on the mend. Even though there are plenty of BS studies claiming statins boost our immune system. crazy eh. How about all the old that died during the pandemic, most will have been on statins. One way to get rid of the old. Lower there immune system by decreasing cholesterol and give them all statins, but i'm sure many other medications impair the immune system too. Its obvious the inflamation is causing the bad LDL.
My Dr is not happy . We havnt met yet as she’s the 3rd one they keep leaving but since I started carnivore in October I have had on and off problems with uti’s but 1x it was nothing and sometimes smoromes come and go. Ma ferriren is 10 she told me to stipoo B12 suppliments and I dint noe ever took any B12.All I eat is red meat fish butter bacon shrimp oysters chicken pork and eggs. I recently started cheese. My HDL is great as tryglicerides.choledterol is 217 or 330 but still 4.3 🤷♀️noe cholesterol is all she’s interested in . I’m 67 115 pounds have 10 pounds of fat I’d like to lose. I’m o2 depend entirely. I’m scared.
Don't pay attention to your doctors!!! Carnivore is the best diet out there. You don't need to be worried about high cholesterol!!! Maybe find a low carb doctor who can help you. ❤
Trust in yourself
???? I have very high Total cholesterol on my latest labs - 445. I've watched your videos, so my question is this. .Is there such a thing as too much cholesterol?
My numbers were TOTAL: 445; Triglycerides: 93; HDL: 77; VLDL: 14; LDL: 354.
This is the best news! The higher the cholesterol the better.
Good job! Congratulations you’re doing it right
Get that ldl under 180. High ldl is very bad. Particle size is more important too.. Those two goons above are clueless.
My husband is really struggling transitioning to a carnivore diet. He says he feels awful. I feel really good. I had some adaptation systems, but I'm starting to feel great. He grazes a lot and says he always feels hungry, then has diarrhea, isn't sleeping well, etc. Any advice?
Keep going it will work stay strong and take care
Lower carbs in steps, may be not all in one step. Keep electrolytes up, make sure he gets enough salt. A salty broth might help.
Vitamin D supplement. Both of you should take 8,000-10,000 IU per day. It's necessary for so many different body functions, and most people are way deficient in it. It's amazing how much better it can make you feel. All the good stuff you're putting in your body won't have to wait for your metabolism to adjust and can get right to work.
Also, electrolytes. A basic, unflavored supplement for the first month or two. When I started carnivore, I used to get bad foot cramps. I took electrolytes for a few months and just never bought more.
btw, grazing is a deficiency indicator, your body knows what it needs but can't voice that for you. sometimes a glass of lightly salted cold water cures that
Possible electrolyte deficiency or oxalate dumping. Please be a little more specific awful as in tiredness or as in joint/spinal pain? Cloudy urine?
Not everyone can easily go cold Turkey. Start lowering carbs. Maybe use milk or fresh fruit to stave off carb cravings. My transitioning process was slow. Can Supplement with electrolytes to help the keto flu. Diarrhea is often just a part of fat adaptation.
In the light of your comments re cholesterol and testosterone, I'm wondering if there would be any correlation between increase in domestic violence and public assaults, and the introduction of statins?
Do you think that the increase in Alzheimer’s over the last 25 years has something to do with the lack of eating animal fat?
after the brain shrinks can it build back?
Good question.. I’ve been on a vegetarian diet for over 50 years.
Probably not
Yes
In a word, NO. Cholesterol is beneficial. Statins kill.
Wagyu human
Saturated fat is very bad for the liver so avoid red meat, bacon etc.
You must be new around here 😅
