Nine years before I was born feels as different as then probably did to the when these engines were the peak of technology. Very glad theres at least some record of these events, really glad to see someone got footage of Malard and Scotty steaming together, I'd seen pictures before but never moving images, great stuff!
Really wish Scotty was retuned to this guise too, though I'm doubtful that will ever cone to pass, at least we have this footage though.

Many thanks for posting this Roy. 👍 London Marylebone played an often unappreciated part in bringing steam excursions to the massive London Market.

The most amazing thing about this video is to discover that back in 1986 you were allowed to trespass on the railway - WOW 😲

That's 'cuz you could trust complete strangers to know what to do in certain situations. Sadly not anymore though.

@@justahillbilly7777 The world (or at least Britain) has gone mad. If a human gets in the way of a 100+ ton steam locomotive at speed, it doesn't take much intelligence to know that the human would get the worse of it!

Not really ..trespassing offences date back to 1840s and were certainly network wide in 1949.

Funny how nowadays people crowd round to take photos. When I was a lad they came through so often you wouldn't have crossed the road to see one. Little did I know when I rushed up to the embankment to see my first diesel, that this would happen.

the mallard & also union of south africa steam engine.s should be restored to full working condition, & given new boiler,s, 2 of the fastest steam engine,s that exist & they are sitting all polished up in museums, i myself dont want to see them in museums, to me thats a waste of time, i want to hear & see them out on the railway & doing what they were built for.

that’s because Mallard’s boiler is probably unconditional in late 80’s but it’s too expensive to have it replace the firebox and some another parts and so i’m betting it probably takes couple years or 10 years like Flying Scotsman went 10 years overhaul so who knows if NRM will decide if Mallard goes back in steam or not. Only time will tell
