  • 'Flying Scotsman' makes it's long awaited return to the Severn Valley Railway as it's seen out on a special charity train which is billed as the curtain raiser for their Pacific Power event. Locations are at Olbury Viaduct, Knowlsands, Eardington Summit and Eardington Halt. I hope you enjoy the video

    Do you remember me Flying Scotsman? Do you remember being on Shirebrook Railway Station in the 1960's? There you were, all alone, on the station without a crew. Just me, a young boy, and you. I looked on your footplate from the platform, I reached up and touched your name plate. Do you remember Flying Scotsman? I remember you. I have not forgotten.

    I rode this wonderful train on many occasions as a child while my father was at sea.Mum,my two brothers and I caught her at Plymouth Station and got off in Birmingham.Then went to visit my Grandparents in the holidays..Then back again.It was so exciting and she was like an old friend…Being pulled by these engines was a magical experience on all your experiences.Sight ,sound ,smell and most of all pure magic.You always felt like you were special and honoured to ride with her.She looks as beautiful on here as she did up close when I used to see her.Because the journey was of course started and finished with a trip to see her.Very happy memories of times and loved ones no longer with me.So glad she has been restored 🥰

    I rode on this train when it toured the United states in the 70's and stopped in Chicago. I was six or seven yeas old. it is great to see it back in action after the rebuild. I have several pictures of me sitting in the cab and on the front. Some day, I will ride this train again.

    You mean the king of steam in all his glory. He is indeed a handsome locomotive and remember, it may not be officially so, and I say that it should, the name Scotsman honours his founder, Sir Nigel Gresley, who was indeed a Scottish man.

    • @lorenzosdeadchannel
      @lorenzosdeadchannel 2 роки тому

      Except it doesn't. The name "flying scotsman" was the name of the service between London and Edinburgh and after the first A1 was completed "great northern" it was renamed flying scotsman as a publicity stunt and the name stuck.
