When driving from South Lincolnshire to North Yourkshire via the Humber Bridge, Barnetby was the halfway point so I would take a short break, have a cuppa and capture a few trains on this busy line. this is now around 20 years ago and much has changed since then. Here is part one, and more will follow, I hope you enjoy watching.

Top stuff👍👍👍
5:40 Clarkson and May GRAND TOUR stuff goings-on, im just waiting hor Hammond.😂
Mallard is a stunning a4
Doesn’t that 31 at 1.58 mins in sound awesome? English Electric engines sound so beautiful, I don't understand their detractors at all - sure they're under powered and overweight, but they sound and look marvellous!
Memories thankyou😊
Great coverage. My only experience of St. Marks was a trip to catch the paddle steamer at New Holland on a special after the Humber Bridge opened. The line from Sheffliedl to Lincoln was degraded by the bus waggon Pacer but you know the Cravens units were even worse, the Metro Cam. a true pleasure by any standard.
Great video, would be brilliant to reload at 1080 if possible. But thanks anyway loved it.
Gordon: Don’t forget the water!
I used to stay at my granda's in Nairn and used to go up and watch the 47's comes in from the bridge. Got friendly with the station master at the time a Gordon Milne, pretty sure that was him on the station platform.
The final death throes of a railway is a truly sad sight, especially as men had sweated blood and in many cases lost their lives to build it.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
As the Traction Inspector I spent nearly all my time on Brittania thanks for the memories, As we were taken off due to causing lineside fires the support crew worked throughout the night so we were back in service next day
Little wonder the trains are so overcrowded when load 13 was the norm in 1985. We’ve got a backwards railway now, even the infrastructure they cleaned back then and now they don’t.
I'm extremely upset i'll never see her running. I hope by some miracle i see her run in the future. i'm a fairly new and young train fan and i must say that mallard is my favourite steam train (If not my favourite train in general) She's just looks absolutely incredible. (As do the other A4 locomotives) I really hope to travel to york at some point in the future and see her in person. I also hope i can ride on an A4 in the future. They're just amazing trains!
The Deltics were pure throbbing beasts. I cabbed on at Selby station in 1977 when I was a 13 year old kid. Pure Power. Thanks to the Driver who was a true enthusiast just like me and my friends
Britain's a crap hole today. Oh to go back in time.
I never knew PEAKS operated in the South West The drivers of the HST's were superb - if they saw anyone with a video camera they would GIVE IT THE BEANS and light up those Valentas AND GIVE YOU A HOOT! Thank you so much - I am old now and very fed up with todays world. THE 80's were THE BEST DAYS of my life when I had a few friends left and the UK wasnt so ruined with hatred and agression on the streets. THANK YOU.
God bless you sir
SUPERB to see the old Peaks again and the odd Chopper. Class 30's, 33's awesome THESE were the days when it was WORTH trainspotting as there were so omany diesels all different today everything is electric and looks the same all rubbish! All we get now is the odd 37 0r a 47 How i wish we had high definition HDMI cameras in those days !
Thanks for the video. That Class 50 as 50041 sounded like a steam whistle on the first tone. Nice footage and useful for my planned scenarios for Train Simulator Classic I have planned.
Holy shits - it`s beatiful!!! Czy jakoś tak...
That 1st train has 13 on. The XC’s nowadays have 4 on 8 if you’re lucky. That’s privation for you..
Ah the sublime Paxton window..
7:51, that's the same date of my birthday (except the year)
should have kept the ( high line) open, disgraceful blinkered foresight by the council, the Central Station could have been a terminas and the High Street level crossing closed.
The Milwaukee Road Hiawatha F7 Baltic Steam Locomotice was faster.
never been confirmed
9:35 That's such an evocative sequence from the Railway Museum, showing Meld and the APT prototype, with York Minster on the skyline. A happy time and place for so many of us.
a really good video nice to hear and the class 37 but views are really very good and it’s why it’s one of the best railway trips to do in the uk really nice to see the this video
Mix wagons or freight cars, I don't suppose that happens anymore ?
Even the CL47 four wagons and a old 1940s type wagon st the end?. Wow
Two little wagons behind Class 31, u can see that being profitable run?
Yes, great memories, when the railways had character and comfort to travel in.
Great footage of one of the many lines we have sadly had taken away from us 😢❤
Dad gave the crew a pack of ciggies & I stòod on her footplate & blew her whistle at Kings Cross, in green livery, get her back on line again !
What was a class 33 doing in Spalding ?
ADEX for Spalding Flower Parade from somewhere south of London In the 70s trains would arrive from all over the country for the parade, hence the Brush namer off the Western Region - if this is 1973, I was on the station having travelled up from the Bristol area on an ADEX All gone now of course
Had the great pleasure of travelling a good part of this journey (Edinburgh-Pitlochry return) in an Inter7City Scotrail HST set in April , it was such a smooth and comfortable ride even with the tighter seats these days. And still the same smell from the brakes as when I first rode an HST in 1981!
OK here's a question: Are there as many preserved locos in any other class as in A4?
many infact
6:43 look at that flying Scotsman the worlds famous steam loco in the world is helping out its rival mallard the worlds fastest steam engine in the world by doing double header light engine movement
It's a lot dearer coming from Cambridge . You have to go to Stevenage and then go down Ecml to get to Spalding. Bloody stupid.
Enjoy that speed record while you can a4 mallard Because in 6 years PRR T1 5550 is about to beat it
Pure magic. If only I had one of those DeLorean time traveling cars, 1984 would be a set favourite. Thanks Roy.
Great seeing class 08242 moving, only ever saw it dumped in Holmes Yard in the late 80s with class 08386.
I think I was on that train with 5 little kids all headed for Skeggy. It broke down halfway and we were marooned for about 6 hours. We arrived in Skeg as the un set so had to cross to the other platform and go straight back home. No apologies no compensation and yet it has actually got worse since privatisation. Last twice I travelled by train I had the same experience - marooned for hours by both signals breakdowns and engine breakdowns. The heating in our carriage was stuck full on - in summer - and people were passing out from heatstroke.
Total waste. Should have kept line open
1:16 the mallard's whistle from train and rail yard simulator
Some interesting formations with the 91’s. 7,8 and 9 cars plus one with 2 buffets. When I used to go spotting in the Early 90’s only ever remember them pretty much being fixed Loco-9-DVT formations. Great Vid.
Those 37’s need the idle sorted out as for the 47 def.
Nice clag!!!
True Steampunk beauty 😍
The Real Northern Powerhouse as it was. Free of lies and Islamic Gangsters enabled by our so called government
Excellent!
