    Both panels feature a 3440x1440 IPS display running at 100hz. Given they use the same panel, what differentiates these two behemoths? Well i've nailed it down to five different factors from quality control, chassis,
    osd and user experience.
    I would for sure say that the PG348Q is the best gaming monitor of 2016, with the X34 following in a close second. The XB271hu and PG278Q are both superb options as well for those wanting a more 16:9 experience or who don't have the graphics horsepower (those who own a 1070 for example) to run 3440x1440 at max and 100hz.
    In terms of performance required to run this panel, I use a GTX 1080 and have to lower down a few settings in battlefield 1 and the witcher 3 to get a solid 100fps. A 1080 will not max out everything and give you 100fps. You'll need a 1070 sli setup for that.
    A 1070 however is still a very capable performer at this resolution and frame rate.
    If you were curious about the X34 vs the X34a, I'm unsure as to whether there is a difference in panel quality. I was told that the only differences between the two is the ergonomic options and an 'improved' OSD. The X34a also has an inbuilt headphone stand. At this stage, if asked between the X34a and PG348Q, I would still say the PG348Q is my gaming monitor of choice for 2016.

      No worries! I know the tech videos have been lacking as of late, i'm going to try ramp those up when I can, with full time work, gf and all the software dev vlogs it's hard fitting it all in. But damned if it's 2:30am and I was determined to get this video up and on the internet! Share if you can, it'll motivate me to do more :D

    You really can't go wrong either way! I absolutely love my X34 but I have never got the chance to test out the Asus. I still prefer the look of the Acer personally and don't really care about the buttons since I only used them for like 5 minutes out of the year I have had it. Build quality is a little meh as Nanda explained with the Acer as well.
    Another fantastic video Nanda!

    +Matt Kjer I''m very close to jump right in there and buy the asus monitor, but I have a soon 4yo rig with an OC intel i7 4770K, 16GB RAM and a GTX Titan Black with 6GB VRAM. I can max out most games at 1080p/ultra with frames mostly a fair bit above 60fps. I have not tried my setup at higher res because my monitor is only 1080p. I'm not planning to upgrade/build a new pc until I've seen what Volta and Vega has to offer. Is it still worth a buy with my setup or won't I really see any benefits until I do upgrade?
    Also do you have a link or name to the exact stand you are using for your monitor instead of the stock one?

  • @kubanskiloewe

    hm, how is the G-synch range of these Monitors because my GTX1080 will only make 50-80Hz at max settings in games.

  • @TheKyleReality
    @TheKyleReality 7 років тому +1

    Nice review Panda love the intro. For me I would probably go with the Asus not a fan of the all black shiny back even though you dont see it but to me both are over price really, I hope the Asus though dont have issues like the old pg278Q I have had two mess up on me now.

    • @MattKander
      @MattKander  7 років тому

      Ahh yeah the infamous PG278Q lol I haven't heard of any mutterings or lots of returns. At work the Acer panels come back a lot more frequently than the Asus do so if that's anything to go off the Asus has better QC in this case. What's planned for the horizon mate? Any new videos I should be looking forward to :D

    Can you record 2560x1440 gameplay with these monitors and how that works - you get 2560x1440 with black bars on both sides or just pure 2560x1440 footage?

  • @sidneydavis3854
    @sidneydavis3854 7 років тому

    If you look at comments on vids this far back... I have a budget ultrawide and am thinking about upgrading. When I play openworlds like witcher 3 or skyrim I notice a blur when viewing foliage, not sure if it is a pixelation issue as it's at 1080p or a response time issue of 5ms. I really don't want to drop $1200 and not be 100% happy. Did you notice any response time issues. Thanks in advance!

    Comprehensive review, as some feedback however your slow camera pans (possibly the rest of the footage too) seem to have had their frame rates dropped from 30fps->24fps causing some very obvious judder (4:58 makes this very obvious). This might be on UA-cam's end or in rendering.
    Very professional review for such a small channel, keep up the good work.

    • @MattKander
      @MattKander  7 років тому

      Crysto Cheers for letting me know! All the footage of the Acer x34 was from one of the earlier reviews I did, and I still didn't really know how to use the camera (I'm still learning). I recorded all of the Asus and floating head footage at 24fps and shutter speed of 50, would you say it's still a bit janky? If so, let me know as I thought it was quite smooth and can change a few things round for the next video

    • @_Crysto
      @_Crysto 7 років тому

      Hard to say without any slow pans of your floating head :) However it does look like the Asus footage (0:55 is a good test) seems fine, so your changes since the earlier footage have fixed the judder. Best way to test yourself is to go frame by frame in either of those sections, and look at the amount of movement between frames. In the Acer's case one frame out of 4 will appear to move further (where a frame has been removed by dropping the fps). Happy to help!

  • @IPConfigskillz
    @IPConfigskillz 6 років тому

    @Matt Kjer I came into the market to buy one of these about 5 months ago. Sadly, there weren't many videos showcasing side by side. You were able to show the nuances between the two which I was grateful for That is what tipped the scales for me. The prices were very similar, but the Asus was a little bit more expensive. I went with the PG34 in the end. And I love it. G-SYNC is AMAZING. I had never seen it in action before. Makes a HUGE difference. I use an after market stand so I have no issues with what I have at all. I will also be obtaining the HDR, Quantum DOT version when the price comes down a bit.

  • @YerGFsezIMhot

    Someone please help me!
    I'm debating between these 2 monitors, or the acer predator XB27HU - I can't decide whether I want the 34 inch wide screen at 100Hz, or the 27 inch 16:4 at 165Hz. I'm currently gaming on a non-gaming monitor at 60Hz, or on my TV with console, so my eyes aren't used to really high refresh rates and I don't know anyone with either of those monitors to compare to see if I could tell the difference.
    What's better, wide screen at 100Hz or 16:4 at 165Hz? I'm seriously debating getting both and returning one, but that's a super expensive experiment you know!?

    What about the Acer X34A?
    Also what you mentioned in the description, is a 1070 not good enough for 3440x1440?

    • @MattKander
      @MattKander  7 років тому

      Peter Gray As far as I know the x34a in terms of the panel is exactly the same. I've seen both at work, didn't find a noticeable difference. As for the 1070 for 3440x1440 at 100hz. You'll get a playable experience for everything, and it's very workable but I found it a bit lacking, I upgraded to a 1080 as i had to turn down quite a few settings in Witcher 3 and battlefield 1

      Absolutely NoOne mmmmmmmmm I know the Acer x34 is 9.9kg without the stand. I think the Asus is slightly heavier but not by much. Personally I'd buy one rated at 12kg+ just to be safe

    You said you had to dial down a few settings to get 100fps. Any chance you could tell us what FPS were you getting with Battlefield 1 and Witcher 3 on ultra settings?

    • @MattKander
      @MattKander  7 років тому +1

      Steven Marshall I'm currently on holiday and away from my comp so I'll have to go from memory. In battlefield ultra I was getting around 80fps and with Witcher 3 I was getting around 60. I'm fairly sure that's what I was getting but I could be out by 10 or so fps

      Nanda Panda Tech thanks man. Still trying to decide whether to go 1080p or 1440p. I only got a GTX 1080 with no option of SLI unless I replace the motherboard.

      Steven Marshall 100% go 1440 if you can man. I would encourage that as much as I possibly can! I'm very happy with the performance of my 1080, single card setups ftw 😀

    Great video. Although I do not agree with all of your comments about the x34, I do like the Asus better overall. Thank you for helping me make up my mind. The x34 is still a great monitor.

    My only question Is the Speaker/Sound difference. Reportedly The Acer has better speakers than the Asus. Having tested both would you say the difference in sound is noticeable or negligible?

      Evanswachtz I actually bought the X34A in the end. I did not like the look of the ASUS's stand.
      It's a great looking screen, and the build quality seems absolutely excellent. Some people seem to not like the "PREDATOR" badge on the bottom of the screen, but I can't say it stands out at all. Hardly really notice it. Besides which, I think it looks cool when I do ever get a glance of it.
      Acer X34A Predator - Out and out awesome screen :-)

    thanks for this review. it is indeed a battle of asus vs acer in this category. actually there is another third player, this korean brand we see on youtube tech reviews: some brand named microboard m340clz, another 21:9 monitor. im also going for the asus pg348Q vs acer x34. the only way ima say acer x34 is better than asus, is that Acer X34p. I will definitely side the x34p, but official tweet from acer, says they will release it Q4 of 2017. Thats a long time to wait. BOOOM!

    your shirt was very distracting, lol. wanted to hear your thoughts on something. I originally tried buying the X34 but my order was cancelled due to inventory running out. so my question is this, if the bottom line is wanting the best gaming monitor, shouldn't we choose the X34 because of its better response time?

    • @MattKander
      @MattKander  7 років тому +1

      Apologies for baring the chest hair. It has a mind of it's own you know. What do you mean by better response time? Is this a joke about shipping times or are you talking about the panel latency lol

    • @ryanklein5305
      @ryanklein5305 7 років тому

      the predator of 4 ms where as this Asus having a response time of 5 ms

    • @MattKander
      @MattKander  7 років тому +1

      That's absolutely negligible. I would challenge anyone who says they can tell the difference between 4ms and 5ms. It shouldn't be a determining factor in which monitor to buy.

    • @moileung
      @moileung 7 років тому

      if you can wait, and is an acer loyal customer, better wait for Q4 2017 for the mighty improved acer X34P. yup, not the x34, not the x34a, but the X34p.

    Have Asus one, amazing screen. have a bit of backlight bleed on all 4 corners, however can be noticed only in pure darkness and Very dark scenes, however 99% of time you cannot notice it. 100hz, great colors, IPS, Gsync and AMAZING SIZE will keep me using this monitor for years to come up until O-LED ultra wide will be a thing.
    Expensive, but amazing. Good luck!

  • @kutasimusic
    @kutasimusic 4 роки тому +1

    I owned both of these screens and ended up keeping the Asus.
    Better colours, sharpness and faster response time for the favor of the Asus. The Acer has nice ambient lights and design but the ghosting image drove me crazy. I also hated the more reflective matte screen on the Acer.

    It really struck me. I'm sitting here with the Asus monitor, with the exact same firewatch wallpaper :B
    I am super happy about my choice of monitor. Altho i think i would have been just as happy if i chose the Acer one.
    Only thing is that i think the stand on the Acer feels more "neutral" than the Asus one.
    Apart from that, have no regrets at all :D
    Nice vid btw ;)
