This is what I loved about Halo Skulls. They functioned similar to easter eggs, tucked away in the corners of the maps, but also functioned as gameplay modifiers. I wish ANY dev would do something similar, maybe the weird bones of a giant creature or something that can unlock cheats/modfiers, and if you find them all you unlock some secret fight or optional boss.

Same. For me I started the game went down stairs had to leave home so saved the game when started it back up went back up stairs ti see if possibly missed anything and that's how I saw that. But thought it was normal and everyone saw it. Keep in mind I never noticed the TV the first time so was the first time I saw it/payed attention to it too.

I think the Futurama Golden egg should’ve been up here. Took 17 years for an entire community of gamers to try every random thing they could think of just to activate it. Only Easter egg I’d actively check in on from time to time to see if the community was any closer and cheers 🍻 they figured it!

My favorite Easter Egg that had practical purposes - the original Star Wars Rogue Squadron on N64 & the hidden Naboo Starfighter. Phantom Menace released in theaters 6 months after the game was already out, and maybe a couple months after that, it was discovered they hid away a secret Naboo Starfighter in the game that you could actually pilot! I don't remember exactly how long after release it was discovered, but it was a big deal back in that era's internet, and it was so cool to find new content tucked away in a game you already owned!
The tribute to the devs family is one of my favorite types. In Apex legends the second map (World's Edge I believe) There used to be a tribute to one of the devs dogs who passed away during the making of the map. I loved finding that, and died multiple times spending time with the puppers.
I was in grade school when that game came out and a friend of mine had it. He told me about that Easter egg and I remember just being like nuh uh. Like he was also about to tell me his uncle worked for Nintendo

In GTA5 the phone number that causes an explosion in the sky actually also turned Michael's and Franklyn's phone home screens background to turn black. For some reason it doesnt work for Trevor. But for Michael and Franklyn, it makes their phone background black (which actually looks really cool).

To be fair, unless you're a boomer or a Gen Xer, you probably won't get the Uncle Sam reference. There have been references made to the Uncle Sam poster in recent media, but newer gen ppl will assume that reference is actually the original. Not a reference. A good example of what I'm talking about can be found in the recent "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off" series. There is a scene where Roxy sings a tune that many Millennials ID'ed as being "Hamster Dance". However, if a Gen Xer or boomer saw that scene, they identified the song as Disney's Robin Hood's "Whistle Top". What Millennials and Gen Zers know as "Hamster Dance" is just a sped up version of a 1970's Disney song.

I feel like I discovered the cordyceps ant on accident when the game first came out on PS3... but never really thought anything of it so never mentioned it/screenshotted it/etc... (I think it was cause I went to bedroom, went downstairs, ended up triggering something like cutscene was like "ah shoot I don't think I saw everything yet" and quit out and reloaded... and then yeah... lol)
If I'm not mistaken, It's actually a bug rather than an easter egg. The devs aren't fully sure if it was intended, but the ant is apparently a default image from the game engine.

While this glitch appeared to have been found many, many years ago, I'm the person who made it mainstream knowledge back in 2020, I'm the person Anthony Caliber gives credit to in his video. That being said, you're wrong. This is in fact, a glitch. This blew up once I mentioned it in 2020. Yes, it it's obviously a cordyceps ant, directly related to the game, that doesn't make it an easter egg though. The ant was simply used as a placeholder image for the news broadcasting lady, however, doing the actions you see in the video, the placeholder image appears instead of what's actually supposed to appear.
In the original Japanese version of Project Zero 4 on Wii, if you pause and unpause the game enough times (the - button), there is a rare chance you'll get spooked by a pale mask/face for a brief second. It's so rare you can go multiple playthroughs without seeing it unless you deliberately pause and unpause for severeal minutes just to trigger the effect.

I see the Saints Row IV developers easter egg in the intro. AFAIK the door you have to blow up to get it is the only door in the entire damn game that will actually break if you shoot it. There's also a developer's office in Saints Row 2 by the waterfront- it's on a second floor and there's no easy way to get there.
Saints Row will always hold a special place in my heart. The first game in particular will forever be elevated for me on a personal level. Volition games was based in Champaign, IL. I grew up around there and Saints Row 1 felt like a game set in my area. It wasn't exact by any means but some things you just recognize as, hey I know that hill. It isn't anything special but I have driven on the actual road it was based on. It was just a more whacky GTA clone at the time that was based on the area I lived in because honestly, who the fuck bases a game on a place that is surrounded by corn for nearly 30 miles in any direction?

Well if you’ve beaten the game already but want to contribute another ‘helper’ for the endgame than that’s an easy way to do it. I actually think this may have been the way the devs populated some helpers for the very first people that ever beat the game.

I have NOT forgotten the game Astal. Such a great game my brother and I used to play as kids. We were obsessed with it, and Mr. Bones, and Brave Fencer Musashi. Those were some of the most amazing games of those times.
That Wind Waker trick was absolutely known about for many years, not sure why this continues to get regurgitated in the zeitgeist, DYKG gave credit to some speed-runners but I 100% remember doing it as a kid on my GameCube.

Not sure if it's been patched, but in Witcher 2, you can roll through Dark Mode difficulty, getting all that mode's special swords and armors, go to an item container box and stripping Geralt down, switch the difficulty out of Dark (to something like Easy), and go back to the box to retrieve your Dark mode gear. Won't work with the recipes for the gear, as those vanish regardless where they are (on Geralt or in a box). For some reason, the gear that's been crafted only gets deleted if it's being actively equipped or carried by Geralt, but not in a storage box.
Im guessing its just so obvious that there was no reason to point it out, but the timecop easter egg bit, having to travel through time EXACTLY 88 times is almost certainly a nod to Back to the Future
The funny part is I discovered the last of us one without knowing. I booted and played a minute of the Last of Us just to make sure it was working , then closed it and then played it later on and apparently that triggered it.

The "mystery person" is 100% a sprite put there for scale by the level designer or 3D modeler. It's exactly what you'd do if you just cobbled together some quick geometry (like for a low detail background piece) or rescaled an object salvaged from elsewhere - just lob in a placeholder character, scale it to look alright then scale everything together until the person is roughly person-sized. Obviously I didn't work on that game but it's such common practice that it didn't surprise me in the slightest.
You mentioned Shin Akuma in Street Fighter Alpha 2, but there was also a way you could play as Akuma in Super Street Fighter II (in the arcade) by moving on certain fighters on the characters for 2 seconds select screen and then pressing a combination of buttons. Used to use him all the time, and normally would have a crowd around me when I was playing.
The Last of us Easter egg I don’t think requires you to do all the malarkey. I think you just have to go back to that room after the explosion and news clip is over. That’s all I did to get it.

This is what I loved about Halo Skulls. They functioned similar to easter eggs, tucked away in the corners of the maps, but also functioned as gameplay modifiers. I wish ANY dev would do something similar, maybe the weird bones of a giant creature or something that can unlock cheats/modfiers, and if you find them all you unlock some secret fight or optional boss.

My favorite Easter Egg that had practical purposes - the original Star Wars Rogue Squadron on N64 & the hidden Naboo Starfighter.
Phantom Menace released in theaters 6 months after the game was already out, and maybe a couple months after that, it was discovered they hid away a secret Naboo Starfighter in the game that you could actually pilot!
I don't remember exactly how long after release it was discovered, but it was a big deal back in that era's internet, and it was so cool to find new content tucked away in a game you already owned!
The tribute to the devs family is one of my favorite types. In Apex legends the second map (World's Edge I believe) There used to be a tribute to one of the devs dogs who passed away during the making of the map. I loved finding that, and died multiple times spending time with the puppers.

I feel like I discovered the cordyceps ant on accident when the game first came out on PS3... but never really thought anything of it so never mentioned it/screenshotted it/etc... (I think it was cause I went to bedroom, went downstairs, ended up triggering something like cutscene was like "ah shoot I don't think I saw everything yet" and quit out and reloaded... and then yeah... lol)
If I'm not mistaken, It's actually a bug rather than an easter egg. The devs aren't fully sure if it was intended, but the ant is apparently a default image from the game engine.

While this glitch appeared to have been found many, many years ago, I'm the person who made it mainstream knowledge back in 2020, I'm the person Anthony Caliber gives credit to in his video. That being said, you're wrong. This is in fact, a glitch. This blew up once I mentioned it in 2020. Yes, it it's obviously a cordyceps ant, directly related to the game, that doesn't make it an easter egg though. The ant was simply used as a placeholder image for the news broadcasting lady, however, doing the actions you see in the video, the placeholder image appears instead of what's actually supposed to appear.

In the original Japanese version of Project Zero 4 on Wii, if you pause and unpause the game enough times (the - button), there is a rare chance you'll get spooked by a pale mask/face for a brief second. It's so rare you can go multiple playthroughs without seeing it unless you deliberately pause and unpause for severeal minutes just to trigger the effect.

I see the Saints Row IV developers easter egg in the intro. AFAIK the door you have to blow up to get it is the only door in the entire damn game that will actually break if you shoot it. There's also a developer's office in Saints Row 2 by the waterfront- it's on a second floor and there's no easy way to get there.
Saints Row will always hold a special place in my heart. The first game in particular will forever be elevated for me on a personal level. Volition games was based in Champaign, IL. I grew up around there and Saints Row 1 felt like a game set in my area. It wasn't exact by any means but some things you just recognize as, hey I know that hill. It isn't anything special but I have driven on the actual road it was based on. It was just a more whacky GTA clone at the time that was based on the area I lived in because honestly, who the fuck bases a game on a place that is surrounded by corn for nearly 30 miles in any direction?

Not sure if it's been patched, but in Witcher 2, you can roll through Dark Mode difficulty, getting all that mode's special swords and armors, go to an item container box and stripping Geralt down, switch the difficulty out of Dark (to something like Easy), and go back to the box to retrieve your Dark mode gear. Won't work with the recipes for the gear, as those vanish regardless where they are (on Geralt or in a box). For some reason, the gear that's been crafted only gets deleted if it's being actively equipped or carried by Geralt, but not in a storage box.

Pretty sure the wave rage one was on game shark. The older ones as you said were probably just not documented, that was pre-youtube and even pre-reddit. So if anyone documented it it would be on game magezines or personally owned websites as that is even before myspace.
Nearly half of these EE's are ones captain eggcelent goes over in his video from 2 weeks ago. For anyone who doesn't know the youtuber captain eggcelent he is in general a better Easter egg poster and editor. He posts twice a week as well
The "mystery person" is 100% a sprite put there for scale by the level designer or 3D modeler. It's exactly what you'd do if you just cobbled together some quick geometry (like for a low detail background piece) or rescaled an object salvaged from elsewhere - just lob in a placeholder character, scale it to look alright then scale everything together until the person is roughly person-sized.
Obviously I didn't work on that game but it's such common practice that it didn't surprise me in the slightest.
You mentioned Shin Akuma in Street Fighter Alpha 2, but there was also a way you could play as Akuma in Super Street Fighter II (in the arcade) by moving on certain fighters on the characters for 2 seconds select screen and then pressing a combination of buttons. Used to use him all the time, and normally would have a crowd around me when I was playing.

The Last of us Easter egg I don’t think requires you to do all the malarkey. I think you just have to go back to that room after the explosion and news clip is over. That’s all I did to get it.
