My dad’s best friend just gave me this monitor as a gift. The box is huge and I’m so freaking happy and stoked for this! I still can’t believe he just gave me this!!
This review is concise and very well structured. Subscribed.
I’d like to take a moment to thank you guys for doing these monitors reviews, sadly not seeing a lot of my core tech youthbers doing them. So thank you so much for doing these so I know that there review is coming from someone I trust.
Had this monitor for a few months now and this review is pretty spot on. Picture is bright and vivid. It's great for gaming as the 120hz and G-Sync make playing buttery smooth. Good all around monitor.
I bought one of these last week, and I have to say that my experience has been terrific!
Thank you for your review. I just ordered one directly from Acer since they had it on sale.
Thanks for the review , keep up the Good work !
One thing about VA that makes it WAY better for content creators than IPS panels is the black level and backlight bleed. Blacks and dark greys look like absolute shit on IPS, and I made the switch with the BenQ BL3200PT and have regretted nothing. The colour accuracy difference between the two is NOT that big, and is more than compensated by a MASSIVE black level and contrast advantage for VA
Fehr Marouf yeah but va is slower - so va panels suffers from a lot of ghosting. Apart from that they do have alot of glow as well. Dont know what is worse these days ips or va...
Happy customer of shitty z301c model.
Thats not what they say.... They still prefer ips over va because the colors are still better and blacks are not that worse then VA. If you want better blacks then you get a oled and if you want better colors then you get oled with quantum dot but as it is, IPS is still better then VA with all the flaws VA still has Vs IPS. I own both the Rog Swifts 1440p one is VA and one is IPS which i got the IPS version for free and the IPS just blows the VA out of the water for gaming because the colors has more depth Vs VA and the blacks on the IPS are perfect as is. Most of my wallpapers are black and the fact i can see the solid blacks at any angle on the isp is better then a VA that looks like a faded mess when you lean to the side or simply not centered with the monitor.
Wanted to buy a bigger ultrawide monitor for general use and casual gaming to replace my current 24" standard samsung montior. Found this review excellent and made my decision with your review. Waiting for the monitor to arrive, hoping my experience is as good as yours was. Thanks
This is the dream monitor all around for gaming and editing with a GTX 1080 system that I have
keep working soon your channel will be a great tech channel and i love your videos
This is a beautiful Ultrawide!
I can’t wait to get this monitor.
I've had the Z35P for a good while now and love it. Yes the 20hz is noticeable and having had the PG348Q for over a year prior. I prefer the Z35P in every way.
Very helpful review. I'm currently trying to decide on a 21:9 monitor for non professional productivity and gaming. Productivity aside, because it is easy enough to understand the difference in resolution and what it means in term of screen real estate, a question that I'm sure I'm not the only one to ask is which would be a better choice for gaming : 1440p at 100-120 mhz or 1080p at 144-200 mhz ?
Provided they have the necessary GPU, would most people really see the gaming difference between 120 mhz and 144 mhz which I consider to be the sweet spot but that I cannot find on any g-sync 1440p ultrawide monitor. Maybe it would make for a good segment considering there are new models coming out that will offer 1440p at 200 mhz driving the price of older models down and making this question even more relevant.
Yup I'm buying this monitor. I WILL BUY THIS MONITOR!
Hey HarwareCanucks!
What software do you use to test the monitor?
Thank you!
Perfect!! Im going to go get one! Wait, how much? puts head down walks away
Must have! Hopefully this winter... ^^
Hi guys. I’m trying to pick an ultra wide. I want the best color representation and contrast ratio, and at least 75hz refresh and sub 5ms response. What is best choice? Also, x34 or this one for my preferences?
Do you have a video figuring out the direct comparison to the IPS-version (X34P)? Id love to see that.
I've owned this monitor for a few months now and just a few things I've noticed and have done research on the forums is this monitor has flickering issues ONLY in loading screens or menus, NOT during gameplay. The other downfall is it does have some minor ghosting with certain colors, but you'll barely notice it unless you really focus on a specific target. Other than that, I'm waiting to return this monitor when the new stuff comes out later this year which will be 3440x1440 200hz HDR from ASUS(pg35vq) and Acer(x35)
i have so much respect for acer man..
he recommends getting a larger desk for this monitor. just, you know, get a larger desk. you may need a larger room in a larger house on a larger plot of land part of a larger country. a larger planet is probably needed to use this monitor comfortably
Yikes
And then you would need an even bigger monitor to match all of that
Doesn’t make sense.
Was funny till you got to the plot of land part.
Idk if my dicks big enough for this monitor
Wow, that's a pretty sweet display!
Of course it costs more than my entire PC setup, but still pretty sweet. ;)
@HardwareCanucks Any idea when ROG PG35VQ is coming? I was looking at that and the Z35P as an upgrade from my 32" 720p tv I'm gaming on.
I just bought the x34 a month ago... Seriously.... Well let me ask you this. Which one is better. Clearly this has slightly more viewing space but is that all?
Das Flank Faster refresh rate too, right?
yeah just 20hz which is basically unnoticeable.
Red Ring of Death 120hz on this to the 100hz on the x34. But it's an ips panel. Supposedly better viewing experience than va and tn panels. And this z35p also has slightly more viewing space
H4CK3R XD 1337 true enough
Diff between 100hz n 120hz is not noticable but diff between ips n tn panel is.
Planning on building a GTX 1070 PC for some casual CS:GO and hopefully games like Overwatch and PUBG. Which of these monitors do you recommend? The Asus PG248Q, Dell S2417DG or Acer G257HU? I do photo & video editing as well. Is it better to sacrifice refresh rate for color or the other way around? Thanks a bunch.
sacrifice refresh rate for color accuracy. In photo editing you'll be glad you did. Plus a 1070 probably won't reach that high of a refresh rate anyways
Hi. When turning on the monitor, does the acer predator logo looks green on your monitor? And does the windows logo look like a solid screen? Then will be ok after?
Seems like trade-off more than advantage/disadvantage between the X34a and the Z35p. Something you didn't really touch on is the overdrive feature and how VA panels tend to have more issues with motion blur vs IPS. I watched another review of this monitor and the guy went in depth on how to set up the overdrive feature to get the least amount of motion blur with the best response time. For anyone looking to buy this or if you already have it I recommend using "normal" overdrive setting for FPS games and the "Off" setting for RTS and general use. The normal setting will give you noticeably better response time with very slight motion blur versus the off setting which will give you a little bit slower response time but almost zero noticeable motion blur.
I want this NOW.
Just went through 2 of these. extreme BLB. got Micro Center to match the price on an Alienware. Happy camper here.
Please do a review for best monitor which doesn't require dedicated graphics. Thanks!
Price sound right taking the point market I wish I can have one
Please tell me - do you feel that blacks on Z35P are a bit blue? I plugged XB271HUB (IPS) and Z35P (VA) and on IPS colors were better, blacks deeper (more black) and not blueish.
at 120Hz, does it have any blurring/ghosting? VA panels tend to do that, and it kills any high refresh rate as far as I am concerned.
A Gamers Dream and you didnt show a single Game..Good Job
mgkpraesi bf1????
Recently saw a VA panel in person and personally I could never go to that after using an IPS for a while now. The color shift was immediately noticeable, not as bad as tn but still too much for me. Especially with an ultrawide. I also dont like that stand it comes with. The one foot in the back means you cant push it slightly over the back of the desk. I have a smaller desk in my office, that giant footprint would leave no room for my keyboard.
When the price tag pays my rent for 2 months...
Thank you.
How is it for text? I've seen some articles noting that on curved displays text isn't as great as on flat displays?
What about the new ASUS ROG Swift PG35VQ that comes out? is it good compared to the other Curved Monitors? I want to buy one but i have no idea about Monitors :/
I've owned this monitor since May 2018 and has been my daily driver ever since, but don't ever use G-SYNC because of the horrible flickering it provides when enabled(tested cables/drivers/etc.). Another issue I had was ghosting, but after turning the overdrive to normal, that has eliminated most of it.
All in all it's a good monitor for what I need(I play a lot of Rust), but the added cost of the internal technology that doesn't work properly(after hours/days of exhaustive testing) has put a sour taste in my mouth for not returning it when I should have and just bought a high refresh rate monitor without G-SYNC for cheaper. tfw you should have bought the XB271HU...
8/10
Hello HC, can u guys do a intro video about pairing GPU and monitor? Is GTX 1070 capable enough to power a 1440p ultrawide or should I go for 1080Ti. It seems so hard to pick the right monitor for certain GPU
王杭 1080 ti for 1440p Ultrawide, especially at higher refresh rates
Any news on the x34p that was supposed to come out earlier this year?
So I have had two of the Acer Predator Z35P's before and I can tell you they have some quality control problems right now. The first monitor I received had a stuck pixel, broken stand, black horizontal and vertical lines, and a smudging issue (as in smudge whenever anything is in motion on screen.) The second monitor still had the black lines and the smudging issue. So, I looked it up, and found out that most people who had bought this monitor have the same problem with the black lines. If you're planning on buying the Z35P it might be ideal to wait a while for Acer to work out all the kinks. To describe the black lines they are very subtle and you may not even notice them at first (best seen on light grey.) To describe the smudging issue on normal overdrive a trail or smudge will follow behind anything in motion(on gameplay/video), with overdrive off you no longer have the smudging issue but it's replaced with nauseating amounts of motion blur, and finally with overdrive on extreme the smudging is so bad it's unbearable. Also the smudging might be caused by the the black line issue. I hope this helps you guys and your wallets.
Please tell me your going to review one of these soon: Samsung CHG90 49-Inch QLED Monitor.
2007 Dell UltraSharp called, it wants it's bezel back
hi ! what do you recommend for a gpu at this resolution ? RTX2070? 2080? thanks !
I think I would go with the X34 or Asus PG348q IPS over any VA model with only a small hz advantage.
are you guys planing to publish in 21:9 videos on youtube anytime soon?
I know this is a crazy and dumb question but would having a Nvidia G1 1080 g card paired with freesync monitor with 144hz and refresh rate of 1ms Really saves u money? I don't mind loosing out on the freesync but I can't afford gsync
I have the z35 and the z35p, it's a great monitor and 120hz is a minimum for a primarily gaming monitor.
S1ickReed any games you tried that didn't support it and just stretched out the image like call of duty i know does that
Decide to buy both Acer - XB271HU and Acer - Z35P, I think should be enough to overcome the problem from both panels.
Can you use ultrawide monitors to play any game? Or do they have to support it?
I currently use an Asus ROG PG348Q, seems there still isn't any clear upgrade from that - would you guys agree?
Until the screen surrounds me and runs at 8k 240hz I will not be satisfied.
@Jerry Seaton that monitor will cost u a kidney
@RED AND BLACK GAMING is acer predator xb273k 27 inch 4k ultra hd
with 120 hz and hdr 400 and quantom dot technology it has
Its price is 1300 dollars
Is it worth buying should i buy it
@RED AND BLACK GAMING i have laptop core i9 and rtx 2080 alienware
@RED AND BLACK GAMING ill buy beast pc with rtx 2080 ti just waiting for ryzen 3rd gen threadriper
@RED AND BLACK GAMING then which monitor should i buy i also want it for professional work
how bad is the ghosting on the z35p compared to the z35??? i had to send back the z35 as the ghosting was horrible and just made playing games horrid,i had it set to 120hz and OD was on normal but the ghosting and how bad it was was just unbearable, i am looking to buy the z35p but its looks as though its the same panel as the z35 which means its more than likely going to replicate the ghosting from the z35, if you or anyone can help with this query it would be very much appreciated
BAAaaaah That Bezzel. What Ancient Trickery is this?
can i do professional artist drawing and design on it with photoshop, photo manipulation, anime and cg drawing? because i dont think i can.....id like your answer....
Anybody know which overlay he was using for FPS and temps during the Battlefield 1 footage?
Why dont HWCanucks actually do Reviews? Theres no mention of the Ghosting, Flicker, Input, Responsetimes etc.
Terra Incognita Gaming yeh please up the game guys have read cannucks reviews since the old days (pimprig forums and gruntville site) and always thought your reviews were amongst the best. You need to add more detail and sometimes be clearer on what you are trying to communicate
he just said he didn't "notice" any ghosting or tearing. gr8 review m8 :P
Response time doesn't really matter mate
Speaking of having larger desk to acomodate the whole system, how large?
144hz and this monitor would have been perfect for me. IPS panel would have been a fun bonus too.
Can anyone recommend an adjustable monitor arm that will actually hold this thing up? I'm having trouble finding one that I like.
damnit just bought xb271hu, should wait for this..
now we only need a bezel-less version
Still waiting for their 4K 144hz HDR Quantum Dot monitor in 2018 which will be perfect with Volta (RIP wallet)
@Jozi X still waiting
How's that working out for you now it's 2020:)
I'm a simple man, I see an LOTR reference I like.
dat wobbling
Amazon's had the x34 for 1079$ for months now, how is the z35p a deal ?
at 1080p how big should the monitor screen be? 24 to 27 inch max ?
im still using the old z35,still good..
I would buy this monitor but it doesn't match my theme of grey which kinda doesn't make me want to get it. They should make it so you could customise what colour you want.
Please do a review on c32hg70 by samsung...
those bezel hurts my eyes
from the first frame of the video I knew it was going to be Eber
Asus has a HDR version of this coming out soon...ish though?
can you please make a video if overclocking monitor safe.
I was looking at the older 35" ultrawide 1080p monitors until I seen this. Now I'm conflicted. I want the 1440 resolution. Not sure I want to pay the extra for it.
The bezel is a bit thick compared to other displays but it's nice anyway. I really like the specs and the relatively competitive price compared to similar models from other brands.
I just wish that the Gsync module would get a little bit cheaper. But since they're selling well I guess Nvidia has no interest in that.
nice one!
Is this VA panel has better black then the x34 IPS panel ? And what about luminosity ?
Better blacks, BUT muddles grays, color shifts at slight or higher viewing angles and more motion blur than IPS. IPS of course has IPS glow. IPS is "generally" seen as the better display technology over all, but it can be subjective.
you forgot to mention info about the RGB color pourcentage of the screen. important info for creators and photograph
When are you reviewing the arctis 7?
Maybe I should just get this.... Still trying to get an XB270HU without bleed or at least not a lot.
Still liking the AOC AGON 35" ultrawide for $850 as the best to 100Mhz. Over that, is very diminished returns.
hi-good video about monitor Predator Z35P say it is possible on this monitor to put frequency more than 120 Hz in the control panel of NVIDIA own settings for example 130 Hz or higher--if smores to check I would be very grateful as I am going to buy this monitor
Excuse me but where can I buy this lamp at 5:55 ?
meh,
good thing i had ROG34 since start and it has Gsync with 100hz
and waiting for ROG35
better quality, HDR gsync 200hz
Yeah the new ROG even comes with 200hz. so its already better than the "new" z35p.
The ROG Swift PG35VQ will feature the exact same panel as this predator X35P. And since Acer has generally the better osd (gamma control included) i'd go with this one.
Mr Wrong
Wrong about what?
Consider also the price of the ROG which is going to be more expensive.
I looked at the z35 it really isn't a bad option it's on sale at Amazon, $200 off, the refresh rate isn't bad and it's full hd so you don't have to break the bank on a graphics card.
guys please help me which one should i go with ?
the acer x34A or acer z35p or Asus pg348 ?
i really want your help i want the best one between these
I bought this monitor a few months ago the only thing I dislike about it the HUGE stand!!! It literally requires a monitor arm
I want to....but I really don't wanna buy G-sync monitor. I do have an Nvidia GPU...but my monitor will be around much longer than my GPU. Suppose I go AMD later? Then I spent extra on a technology that I can't use whereas if I go Freesync now and use my Nvidia GPU, even though I cant utilize the Freesync at the moment, I didn't spend _extra_ money on it so it's okay.
That's the point of Gsync bruv, to keep you with Nvidio.
Kadomex Once you experienced Gsync, you never wanna miss it again. Thats a Quarranty.
this thinking of b.s. future proofing is b.s. man, buy what you want now and enjoy what you have in TODAY's world. thinking what will be in the future will just rob you of the present satisfaction you will get. what if freesync2 is out, or ryzen 2 or intel i10 will be out? there will be always new stuff around the corner, making us feel bad we just bought a not so new stuff. like remember those guys who bought acer predator x34 or the asus pg34vq (both best ultrawide gaming of 2015) and still now, they still have the best monitor. yeah z35 or asus pg35vq are shown to the public in them tech shows but its not yet available till 20-fucking 18. so them guys who bought this monitors are actually enjoying their purchase as they were the best gaming monitors undefeated for 3 years man!
how tall is this monitor with the standard stand at its lowest elevation?
Good lord the bezel is ridiculous. I'll wait for the 4k 144hz panel and will sell my x34 for that.
A year later and still waiting on the X34P
Those bezels kill it for me.
isn't the new asus monitor 200hz and also 2k and ultrawide, with gsync?
An ultrawide to find them, an ultrawide to bring them all and in the darkness bind them..
